Burning Issue - Conversion Of SQL Query To Semantic Query

Apr 7, 2007

Hi Everyone,

Currently, we are facing a serious problem of conversion from Sql Query to Semantic Query and we are looking for any API or Component that handles this conversion process.

Requirement Details:

I'd like to tell the story happened which lead us to this requirement. We want to convert Shazam Reports (SRW) to Reporting Services (RDL) reports that support Report Builder (semantic queries). So, we planned to convert the SRW query structure into a SQL query structure and later to Semantic Query, which is recognized by the Report Builder.

In that process, we've successfully developed a parser component that parses the SRW's query structure into standard Sql query structure but now we struggling, as we don't know how to convert an sql query into semantic query.

We are running out of time and any information towards the solution is a great help to us.

Hope I'd get some positive reply from you.

Regards,

Sinha

Reporting Services 2005 Semantic Query Error

Sep 20, 2007

I recently changed my datasource in our Reporting Service Model. We changed to a quicker SQL server with disk capacity. I am able to run new reports but when I try to run old ones that were on the old datasource, I get an error. The datasource has been changed to point to the new server (datasource).

The error is: An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Semantic query compilation failed: e EmptySemanticQuery The SemanticQuery does not contain any Groupings or MeasureGroups. SemanticQuery must contain at least one of these elements. (SemanticQuery ''). (rsSemanticQueryEngineError)

I will appreciate any help.

Report Bulider - Semantic Query Syntax Error

Apr 27, 2008

Hi,

I am having trouble getting the following query to execute in the report builder:

OPEN Symmetric KEY DemoKey Decryption BY Certificate DemoCertificate;
SELECT

PIN,
EffDate,
Cast(DecryptByKey(Address1) AS varchar(200)) AS Address1,
Cast(DecryptByKey(Address2) AS varchar(200)) AS Address2,
Cast(DecryptByKey(Address3) AS varchar(200)) AS Address3,
Cast(DecryptByKey(City) AS varchar(125)) AS City,
Cast(DecryptByKey(State) AS varchar(125)) AS State,
Cast(DecryptByKey(ZipCode) AS varchar(90)) AS ZipCode,
Cast(DecryptByKey(Country) AS varchar(125)) AS Country
FROM Address
CLOSE Symmetric KEY DemoKey;

I am getting the following error when I try to generate a report in the report builder:

Semantic query execution failed. Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'Open'.
Incorrect syntax near ')'.
----------------------------
Query execution failed for data set 'dataSet'.
----------------------------
An error has occurred during report processing.

I was getting a similar error when I tried to enter the query using the Named Query window of the dsv file. However, I was able to overcome this obstacle by entering the query directly into the code of the dsv file and it works perfectly. That is, when I click on "Explore Data" in the dsv design view the data is retrieved from the database and is decrypted properly.

It appears that the report builder's semantic query engine does not accept transact-sql statements that involve data decryption. Does anybody know if this is true? Or is there some workaround for this situation? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

Report Builder Bug?: Semantic Query Execution Failed. Incorrect Syntax Near 'NULLAND'.

Sep 3, 2007

Hi

I get the following error when running a report in report builder using the Adventureworks sample model:
Semantic query execution failed. Incorrect syntax near 'NULLAND'.----------------------------Query execution failed for data set 'dataSet'.----------------------------An error has occurred during report processing.

Here is how to replicate the error:

Create a table report using the Adventure Works model.
Select Product entity, add Product Category and #Products to the table.
Edit formula for #Products to "COUNT(Products)" and add a filter on Products for "Discontinued Date is empty". (I want a count of products that have not been discontinued).
If you run the report now, it willl work as expected.
Add a report filter for "Product.Color is empty" (I only want to see products that don't have a color)
Run the report to get the above error.
While the above is a contrived example, I am getting the same error on a data model that I am developing for a customer.

Am I missing something, or is this a bug in Report Builder?

Thanks

Access Query Conversion

Feb 15, 2005

I have this query:
SELECT Trim(Left([Display Name],InStr([Display Name],",")-1))+Trim(Mid([Display Name],InStr([Display Name],",")+2,1)) AS UserName, dbo_Employee.[Display Name]
FROM dbo_Employee;
Works good in access, but when trying to put it un sql server, it comes up with errors.
I know mid is substring, I just don't know what trim and instr are in mssql.

Any ideas?

Datatype Conversion Query

Mar 17, 2005

Have a simple question -

Will it be possible to convert a varchar data type column (having values that are numbers or null only) to a numeric data type column having the number values and the null values not being replaced by 0.

Col A Col A
(varchar) (int or numeric)
123 123
124 124
NULL 0 <expected blank>
125 125

I tried using CAST(Col A as int) and it converts the NULL to 0. Will
CAST(ISNULL(ColA,'') as int) work? The reason for this requirement is the value 0 will give different meaning to the data. Any insights will be appreciated.

Help With A SQL Union Query Please. Conversion Errors!

Aug 29, 2007

Hi, I've created a SQL union query that grabs the top three values of a test and puts the results together on one line item by a recordnumber.
The only problem is, one value is generating the error: " Syntax error converting the varchar value '=' to a column of data type int."
This field is an operator field, so it will only display operator values ( <, >, = ).  Everything seems to work BUT the union join on that column, which is a varchar data type.  I need this union to work, and Im frustrated that I can't seem to figure out why I can't get the logic to work.  Can someone take a look at this and help me with it?
The union query looks like this:

exec('select
RecordNumber,Sum(rank1) as HbA1CRank1,max(Operator1) as HbA1COperator1,sum(contentValue1) as HbA1CContentvalue1,max(dos1) as HbA1CDOS1,Sum(rank2) as HbA1CRank2,max(Operator2) as HbA1COperator2,sum(contentValue2) as HbA1CContentvalue2,max(dos2) as HbA1CDOS2,Sum(rank3) as HbA1CRank3,max(Operator3) as HbA1COperator3,sum(contentValue3) as HbA1CContentvalue3,max(dos3) as HbA1CDOS3
from
(SELECT DISTINCT                       TOP 100 PERCENT recordnumber, Rank AS rank1, cast(Operator as varchar) as Operator1, contentValue AS contentvalue1, DOS AS DOS1, 0 AS rank2, 0 as Operator2,  0 AS contentvalue2, 0 AS DOS2,                       0 AS rank3, 0 as Operator3, 0 AS contentvalue3, 0 AS DOS3FROM         (SELECT     (SELECT     COUNT(*)                                               FROM         tblDiabetic_HgbA1C_Total vw1                                               WHERE     vw1.rECORDnUMBER = vw2.rECORDnUMBER AND vw1.ItemCode = vw2.ItemCode AND vw1.Operator = vw2.Operator AND vw1.DOS > vw2.DOS) AS Rank, *                       FROM          tblDiabetic_HgbA1C_Total vw2) vw3WHERE     (Rank = 0)ORDER BY RecordNumber

Can anyone help?  It looks right to me, I just can't figure out why the error keeps coming up =

Implicit Conversion In Query Analyzer

Dec 8, 2004

I am trying to construct a query in Query Analyzer (with SQL Server 2000), but am getting an error regarding "implicit conversion."

Here is the query:

SELECT dbo.AUCTION.EbayNum, dbo.AUCTION.EndDate,
DATENAME([month], dbo.AUCTION.EndDate) + ' ' + DATENAME([year], dbo.AUCTION.EndDate) AS [PmtMonth],
dbo.LOT.Description, dbo.AUCTION.WinBid,
PaidStat = CASE dbo.AUCTION.PaidStatus
WHEN 0 THEN ''
ELSE 'PAID'
END,
PaidAmt = CASE dbo.AUCTION.PaidStatus
WHEN 0 THEN ''
ELSE dbo.AUCTION.WinBid
END
FROM dbo.AUCTION INNER JOIN
dbo.LOT ON dbo.AUCTION.LotNum = dbo.LOT.LotNum
WHERE (LEN(dbo.AUCTION.Winner) > 0)

The error occurs in the PaidAmt CASE statment:
"Implicit conversion from data type varchar to money is not allowed. Use the CONVERT function to run this query."

Why is there an implicit conversion going on? And how can I fix it?

Conversion Of Query From Oracle To SQL Server

Sep 12, 2007

Hi Friends,
Need ur help desperately. I am stuck with one of the queries which i had written in Oracle and need the same in SQL Server. Please have a look at the following query :

select * from r_tin_1099_info where instr(translate( nm_ctrl_cd , '~!@#$%^&*()_+}{":?><`-=]['''';/., ', '*******************************' ),'*') > 0;

Basically my purpose is to replace the values in column NM_CTRL_CD having wild card characters with '*' and then select this rows to display.

However i am not able to run the same query in SQL Server since TRANSLATE is not a built in func. I have tried a lot to replace it but could only one func : REPLACE . But the same will not replace any one of the above wild characters but will replace the entire pattern. Please note that it should be able replace even if one of the wild card characters are present in the string and not necessarily the entire pattern shown above.

please reply ASAP since i am working and need this query to fix a defect.

Thanks in advance.

A Simple Update Query Using A Date - Conversion From Msaccess

Mar 21, 2005

I'm converting an ASP system from using msaccess to SQL Server as the db engine, and I'm stumped on the following query

update
timecard
set
TcdDate = #3/18/05#

TcdDate is defined as a date/time type

It will not run with the date bracketed by # signs, and when I take them out, 1/1/1900 is stored in the dbs. Is there a different symbol to bracket the date with or should I be using a function to convert the date?

SQL2K Help! SQL Union Query And Varchar / Integer Conversion Problems =(

Aug 8, 2007

Hi, I need help.  Understatement of the year right now, too =
So... I've created a stored procedure that partially pulls a SQL union query to give me a complete one-line result set of a bunch of data... four separate selects comprise the query.
The tables are structured identically to each other, but the values being pulled are specific and distinct.  All of the non-date values stored are varchar values in the tables, and yet when I execute the SQL union query, I get the error message:  Syntax error converting the varchar value to a column of data type int.
I know SQL does implicit conversions, however Im not sure why it's trying to do that with this query, I suppose.  it should have been straightforward.
Any suggestions?  Here is the query logic to look at, in case I'm missing the obvious

exec('
SELECT ACCOUNT, LNAME, FNAME, SEX, DOB, cast(MA_ContentValue as decimal) as MA_ContentValue, cast(MA_DOS as smalldatetime) as MA_DOS,cast(LDL_ContentValue as decimal) as LDL_ContentValue, cast(LDL_DOS as smalldatetime) as LDL_DOS, cast(HgbA1C_ContentValue as decimal)as HgbA1C_ContentValue, HgbA1C_DOS, cast(Creatinine_ContentValue as decimal) as Creatinine_ContentValue, Creatinine_DOS
FROM ( SELECT     Account, Lname, FName, Sex, DOB,MA_ContentValue, MA_DOS,   0 as LDL_ContentValue, 0 as LDL_DOS,   0 as HgbA1C_ContentValue, 0 as HgbA1C_DOS,   0 as Creatinine_ContentValue, 0 as Creatinine_DOS FROM         dbo.vwDiabetic_MicroalbuminTop3  UNION  SELECT     Account, Lname, FName, Sex, DOB, 0 as MA_ContentValue, 0 as MA_DOS,   LDL_ContentValue, LDL_DOS,   0 as HgbA1C_ContentValue, 0 as HgbA1C_DOS,   0 as Creatinine_ContentValue, 0 as Creatinine_DOS FROM         dbo.vwDiabetic_LDLTop3  UNION  SELECT     Account, Lname, FName, Sex, DOB, 0 as MA_ContentValue, 0 as MA_DOS,   0 as LDL_ContentValue, 0 as LDL_DOS,   HgbA1C_ContentValue, HgbA1C_DOS,   0 as Creatinine_ContentValue, 0 as Creatinine_DOS FROM         dbo.vwDiabetic_HgbA1CTop3  UNION
 SELECT     Account, Lname, FName, Sex, DOB, 0 as MA_ContentValue, 0 as MA_DOS,   0 as LDL_ContentValue, 0 as LDL_DOS,   0 as HgbA1C_ContentValue, 0 as HgbA1C_DOS,   Creatinine_ContentValue, Creatinine_DOS FROM         dbo.vwDiabetic_CreatinineTop3) tbl1

')
Anything else that I can provide for someone to help me? I appreciate any/all feedback!

but in query analizer I get the result of

12/31/2006

Semantic Constraint

Mar 23, 2006

Hi all:

Just joined forums, so a big hello to you all :)

Just wondering if someone could explain the following two terms too me?

*Semantic Constraint
*Access Control

Are there limitations each can impose within a relational database?

Many thanks

Semantic Model

Mar 8, 2006

Hello,

I got the following error while trying to create a report model:

Can you help me?

Invalid Semantic Model

Feb 24, 2006

Hello

While following the instructions on the tutorial "Creating a Report Model Based on an Analysis Services Cube", I got this error when trying to create the report model:

The semantic model is not valid. Details: The element 'Entity' in namespace 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2004/10/semanticmodeling' has incomplete content. List of possible elements expected: 'IdentifyingAttributes' in namespace 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2004/10/semanticmodeling'. (InvalidSemanticModel)

I have tried to use a SSAS cube of my own, which is working fine and tried to create a model based on it so I can create ad-hoc reports.

Parameters chosen on the data source creation:

Connection Type: Microsoft SSAS

Connection String: Data Source=localhostSQL2005;Initial Catalog="TAP Analysis"

Connect Using: Windows Integrated Security

To SSAS using the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, I use Windows Authentication.

In the model creation, I have tried to switch to other credentials, but the error still remains... Can you help me with this one?

Thanks

André

Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA)

Aug 26, 2006

Does SQL 2005 offer any tools to perform Latent Semantic Analysis on large data sets? Say I have millions of daily search queries and I'd like to link queries to one another based on semantic content with a goal of mapping them to larger "categories" . One way of doing this is to compare word frequency and proximity to construct a semantic "weight space". This is the approach generally used in LSA.

Anyone using SQL 2005 for this? Anyone see a way it could be done?

How To Deploy Semantic Models Manually?

Oct 5, 2005

Using SQL Server 2005 Business Intelligence Studio, I created a Data Source (Test.ds), Data Source View (Test.dsv), and a Report Model (Test.smdl). It is very easy to deploy this model into a Report Server, from the Business Intelligence Studio, by right clicking the Report Model Project and choosing 'Deploy'.

Error: 8624 Internal Query Processor Error: The Query Processor Could Not Produce A Query Plan.

May 24, 2007

SQL Server 2005 9.0.3161 on Win 2k3 R2

I receive the following error:

"Error: 8624, Severity: 16, State: 1 Internal Query Processor Error: The query processor could not produce a query plan. For more information, contact Customer Support Services."

I have traced this to an insert statement that executes as part of a stored procedure.

INSERT INTO ledger (journal__id, account__id,account_recv_info__id,amount)

VALUES (@journal_id, @acct_id, @acct_recv_id, @amount)

There is also an auto-increment column called id. There are FK contraints on all of the columns ending in "__id". I have found that if I remove the contraint on account__id the procedure will execute without error. None of the other constraints seem to make a difference. Of course I don't want to remove this key because it is important to the database integrity and should not be causing problems, but apparently it confuses the optimizer.

Also, the strange thing is that I can get the procedure to execute without error when I run it directly through management studio, but I receive the error when executing from .NET code or anything using ODBC (Access).

Query Works In 'test Query' But Refuses To Show Up In The Datagrid On A Web Page - Urgent!

Mar 28, 2007

Hey, i've written a query to search a database dependant on variables chosen by user etc etc. Opened up a new sqldatasource, entered the query shown below and went on to the test query page. Entered some test variables, everything works as it should do. Try to get it to show in a datagrid on a webpage - nothing. No data shows.
 SELECT dbo.DERIVATIVES.DERIVATIVE_ID, count(*) AS Matches
FROM dbo.MAKES INNER JOIN
dbo.MODELS ON dbo.MAKES.MAKE_ID = dbo.MODELS.MAKE_ID INNER JOIN
dbo.DERIVATIVES ON dbo.MODELS.MODEL_ID = dbo.DERIVATIVES.MODEL_ID INNER JOIN

SQL Server 2012 :: Adding Count To Query Without Duplicating Original Select Query

Aug 5, 2014

I have the following code.

SELECT _bvSerialMasterFull.SerialNumber, _bvSerialMasterFull.SNStockLink, _bvSerialMasterFull.SNDateLMove, _bvSerialMasterFull.CurrentLoc,
_bvSerialMasterFull.CurrentAccLink, _bvSerialMasterFull.StockCode, _bvSerialMasterFull.CurrentAccount, _bvSerialMasterFull.CurrentLocationDesc,
_bvSerialNumbersFull.SNTxDate, _bvSerialNumbersFull.SNTxReference, _bvSerialNumbersFull.SNTrCodeID, _bvSerialNumbersFull.SNTransType,
_bvSerialNumbersFull.SNWarehouseID, _bvSerialNumbersFull.TransAccount, _bvSerialNumbersFull.TransTypeDesc,

[code]...

However, as you can see, the original select query is run twice and joined together. What I was hoping for is this to be done in the original query without the need to duplicate the original query.

Opening Up Odbc Data Source In The Query Query Inside Of The Server Manager

Jun 15, 2007

I'm trying to find the command to open up an odbc conection inside sql2005 express. I only have ues of an odbc connector, we're conection to remedy. We will eventually be using stored procedures to extract the data we need from remedy and doing additional data crunching. I'm a foxpro programmer so once I get the correct syntax for making the odbc connector I shold be ok. Also I need a really good advanced book on sql2005. The type of book that would have my odbc answer. I've spent all morning trying to find this information and was unable to.

Thanks in advance

Master Data Services :: Error - Query Processor Could Not Produce A Query Plan

Jul 19, 2015

We have a issue with a MDS server that have been over us for a couple of days, the original error msg from SQL Server Engine is the one "The query processor could not produce a query plan" but the ones we get on the Excel-Addin are "Sequece contains no elements" or "The value cannot be null" T

• Using Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (SP1) - 11.0.3393.0 (X64) for 6months on this server without issues

• Two weeks ago we started to have 2 errors: "Sequence Contains No Elements" | "The Value Cannot Be Null"

• We are using the last version of Excel Add-in

• We try to reinstall the MDS feature

• If I backup/restore MDS database to other server it works

• We updated to SQL 2012 SP2 + CU4 but the error persisted ...

Looking at the MDSTraceLog we are routed to the this msg

SQL Error Debug Info: Number: 8624, Message: Internal Query Processor Error: The query processor could not produce a query plan. For more information, contact Customer Support Services., Server: bbdvsql03inst01, Proc: udpMetadataEntityGetDetailsXML, Line: 28

Query Fails With Invalid Column Name But Succeed As Sub-query With Unexpected Results

Sep 22, 2015

-- The 3rd query uses an incorrect column name in a sub-query and succeeds but rows are incorrectly qualified. This is very DANGEROUS!!!
-- The issue exists is in 2008 R2, 2012 and 2014 and is "By Design"

set nocount on
go
if object_id('tempdb.dbo.#t1') IS NOT NULL drop table #t1
if object_id('tempdb.dbo

[code]....

This succeeds when the invalid column name is a valid column name in the outer query. So in this situation the sub-query would fail when run by itself but succeed with an incorrectly applied filter when run as a sub-query. The danger here is that if a SQL Server user runs DML in a production database with such a sub-query which then the results are likely not the expected results with potentially unintended actions applied against the data. how many SQL Server users have had incorrectly applied DML or incorrect query results and don't even know it....?
