CLR UDAGG Returns Severe Error On Certain Cases

Jun 18, 2007

Hi peoples,

I have created a custom CLR user define aggregate function based on the example that i found at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms131056(SQL.90).aspx.

It works great until i discovered that it will failed if i try to do either one of the following:

query a large records e.g: more than 4k records
has IS NULL in my where clause e.g: WHERE myConcatenatedFld IS NULL

Other than these two, it works perfectly fine.

Here is the error that i got:

Msg 0, Level 11, State 0, Line 0

A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.

I have attached the Concatenate class that i used in my UDAGG.

Code Snippet

using System;

using System.Data;

using System.Data.SqlClient;

using System.Data.SqlTypes;

using Microsoft.SqlServer.Server;

using System.IO;

using System.Text;

Anyone has any idea on how to solve this issue?. Thanks

Severe Error Encountered With Synonyms

Oct 10, 2006

we now used synonyms on the version 6 of our peoject, at first it turns out good. Then we migrate a database to the new database, everythings fine, its just a data migration anyway. The target database' structure and DML's wasn't change during migration. then intermittendly, we're encountering "A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded". I said its intermittent because sometime its ok, mostly its not functioning.

This is very painfull because all our scripts has this synonym. All our scripts uses an sp execution logging stored procedured of another database so we created a synonym for those sp's instead of fully qualifying the procedure name.

This is a major issue for us, please advise. You may response here, send me email or email me. Many Thanks.

A Severe Error Occurred On The Current Command.

Aug 23, 2006

I am having problems with an error that I keep receiving. The error message states "A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should
be discarded."This error is popping up when I try to call a specific stored procedure in SQL2005. The error is not specific to ASP.NET code because it also occurs if I try to run the procedure in SQL Server Management Studio. The procedure is exactly the same that is running on an SQL2000 server on a live site, so it apparently is specific to SQL2005.I have not worked much with SQL2005 or SQL cursors in the past and this code was not written by me so I am not sure where to start making changes, if any are needed.The procedure is as follows:ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[spGetAdmins] @userid int, @forDate datetimeASDECLARE @lngTabCount INTEGER, @lngLoopCount INTEGER, @type varchar(15), @id varchar(20), @statement varchar(1000), @useridLocal int, @forDateLocal datetimeSET @useridLocal = @useridSET @forDateLocal = @forDateDECLARE @AdminInfo TABLE (AdminID varchar(20), AdminName varchar(50)) /* check parameters */ IF (@useridLocal <= 0) BEGIN RAISERROR( 'Invalid UserID (%d)', 16, 1, @useridLocal ) END IF (@forDateLocal IS NULL) BEGIN SELECT @forDateLocal = GETDATE() ENDDECLARE profInfo CURSORLOCAL FORWARD_ONLYFOR SELECT ProfileType, ProfileValue FROM tblCSUserProfile WHERE UserID = @useridLocal and (StartDate is not null or StartDate <= @forDateLocal ) and (EndDate is null or EndDate > @forDateLocal ) ORDER BY ProfileTypeOPEN profInfoFETCH profInfo INTO @type, @idWHILE @@Fetch_Status = 0 BEGIN IF @id = '*' BEGIN INSERT INTO @AdminInfo VALUES ('*', '* Everything') END ELSE BEGIN INSERT INTO @AdminInfo SELECT adm.[ADM_CODE], adm.[ADMIN_NAM] FROM OPENROWSET('SQLOLEDB', 'server'; 'database'; 'password', [table]) AS adm WHERE adm.[ADM_CODE] = @id END FETCH profInfo INTO @type, @id ENDCLOSE profInfoDEALLOCATE profInfoSELECT DISTINCT(UPPER(AdminID)) AS AdminCodeFROM @AdminInfo GROUP BY AdminIDORDER BY AdminCode

A Severe Error Occurred On The Current Command. The Results, If Any, Should Be Ignored

Feb 1, 2008

I got the above error executing a stored procedure from .Net app and I isolated the issue on the following sql statement inside the sp. I executed the statement manually inside the MSSQL Mgt Studio and got the same error as above. Here is the sql statement:
SELECT F1,F2,F3,F4,F5,F6,F7,F8,F9,F10,F11,F12,F13,F14,F15,F16,F17,F18,F19,F20,F21,F22,F23,F24,F25,F26,F27,F28,F29 from OpenRowset('MSDASQL', 'Driver={Microsoft Text Driver (*.txt; *.csv)};DefaultDir=E:\TPSDATA\az\;','select * from prohist.csv where f1 < 0 ')

the data file exists in the directory 'E: psdataazprohist.csv' . I'm running on SQL2005 version 9.00.3054.00. Any ideas what the problem is? Appreciate any feedback

A Severe Error Occurred On The Current Command. The Results, If Any, Should Be Discarded.

Aug 27, 2002

Hi,

I am hosting my ASP.NET application on a Host and after some time I get this error
(Don't get it on my development machine):

A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.

And then it says this on the same page:

Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.

An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.

[SqlException: A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.]
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream) +643
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior behavior) +9
ASPNetPortal.PortalSettings..ctor(Int32 tabIndex, Int32 tabId)
ASPNetPortal.Global.Application_BeginRequest(Object sender, EventArgs e)
System.Web.SyncEventExecutionStep.Execute() +60
System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously)

I thought this is a problem with max pool size and I did it max pool size = 5000, now application runs ok for some time and then produces this error but some times this comes very soon.

As a solution, I have to copy my dll in bin directory again and application restarts and works properly but then after some time this happenes again.

Please let me know whats the problem.
I checked all of my SqlDataReaders and SqlConnections are closed properly.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Rahul.

I have 2 servers. One of them is free text seach with files stored in DB. On main server there is a link back to this file DB server.

I am trying to run this script and then error from above... link_kance_doc is link to table on other server. Strange thing is when I run this same script on server 3 with same link to file DB server it works. It also works when runed on file DB server.
Also, if I dont use WHERE CONTRAINS SQL does return Dataset..

FROM link_kance_doc
where Contains(*,'"murte"')

DBCC SHRINKFILE Gives A Severe Error Occurred On The Current Command.

Oct 14, 2007

I am using SQL Server SP 2 on Windows 2003 Server Standard edition:

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.3042.00 (Intel X86)
Feb 9 2007 22:47:07
Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation
Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2)

I have a datbase that's rather large. The log file is 94656 pages, and the data file itself is 94197200 pages. There's only one data file and one log file. The database passes DBCC CHEKCDATABASE with no errors.

When I run DBCC SHRINKDATABASE against the database, the command runs for about twenty seconds then produces this error:

Msg 0, Level 11, State 0, Line 0
A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.

I can't find anything interesting in the ERRORLOG around the time that I run this command. The error appears if I use the TRUNCATEONLY option or not.

How do I fix this problem?

And in general, why are the engine errors in SQL Server so confusing and not directly actionable?

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Inline Table-valued Function - A Severe Error Occurred

Jan 21, 2015

I'm attempting to convert some INSERT-EXEC structures into table-valued functions because the procedures are deeply nested and INSERT-EXEC doesn't like nesting (Error 3915: Cannot use the ROLLBACK statement within an INSERT-EXEC statement)

The procedure has a single select statement, so I created an inline table-valued function. When I ran it with sample data, I received this error (yes, twice):

Msg 0, Level 11, State 0, Line 0
A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.
Msg 0, Level 20, State 0, Line 0
A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.

After ruling out obvious mistakes, I started to deconstruct the select statement with its CTE and TVP. The result is the following, built in my local sandbox database:

CREATE TYPE test_list AS TABLE(a int);
GO
CREATE FUNCTION test_function (@p int, @theTable test_list READONLY)
RETURNS TABLE
AS
RETURN (
WITH cte
AS (SELECT a FROM @theTable)
SELECT cte.a
FROM cte);
GO
DECLARE @t test_list;
INSERT @t VALUES(1);
SELECT * FROM test_function(1, @t);

When I run this, I get the same error as noted above. I'm running on version 10.50.4000.0, Developer Edition. (2008 R2 SP2)

The function above does just about nothing and has redundancies because I stripped the actual function down to the essential elements to cause the error. The essential elements are:

- One of the parameters is a table-valued parameter (the UDTT definition does not seem to matter)

- The SELECT statement has a CTE

- The TVP is accessed within the CTE

- The outer FROM clause references the CTE

- There is also a scalar parameter on the function (scalar type does not seem to matter).

- The scalar parameter precedes the TVP in the parameter list.

So I have an easy work-around: put the TVP first in the parameter list.

Severe Error Occurring When Creating Assembly With External Access Permission

Jul 11, 2006

I had created a CLR function in my db and was able to execute it successfully a couple of months ago. But when I tried to execute it today it was throwing errors saying there was something wrong with the permissions on the assembly. So I decided to drop everything and recreate it except I can not longer create the assembly with EXTERNAL ACCESS permissions. Whenever I try to create the assembly I get the followng error:

Msg 0, Level 11, State 0, Line 0

A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.

Msg 0, Level 20, State 0, Line 0

A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.

I also tried to create the assembly with Unsafe permissions and got the same error. Does anyone know why this error would be occurring now? I tried creating the same assembly on a different SQL 2005 server and it creates successfully and can be executed successfully. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

Severe Error After Installing SQL2005 SP2 Query To Linked Server Foxpro With Oledb

Oct 24, 2007

After installing sql2005 sp2 a simple select query to a linked server reports the following error message:

Msg 0, Level 11, State 0, Line 0A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.Msg 0, Level 20, State 0, Line 0A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.
Before installing SP2 we used sql2005 without any service packs, the linked server worked fine.

The linked server is a Visual FoxPro database.

After uninstalling and installing the 'Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Visual FoxPro 9.0' the issue stil remains.

CREATE AGGREGATE Failed Because Type .. Does Not Conform To UDAGG Specification Due To Method 'Init'

Jul 3, 2007

I am trying to get the CLR user-defined aggregate functions sample working (VB version).

I've saved the sample (from Invoking CLR User-Defined Aggregate Functions ) to a .vb file and compiled it like this:

C:dataVStudioprojectsSQLutilsSQLutils>c:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2
.0.50727vbc /t:library /out: SQLutils.dll Class1.vb
Microsoft (R) Visual Basic Compiler versie 8.0.50727.42
voor Microsoft (R) .NET Framework versie 2.0.50727.42
Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation. Alle rechten voorbehouden.

The SQLutils.dll file is created without warnings or errors.

I've created the assembly

create assembly sqlutildll from 'D:SQLdatadllSQLutils.dll'

and then the function:

CREATE AGGREGATE Concat (@input nvarchar(200)) RETURNS nvarchar(max)

EXTERNAL NAME sqlutildll.Concatenate

and then I got this error:

Msg 6558, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

CREATE AGGREGATE failed because type 'Concatenate' does not conform to UDAGG specification due to method 'Init'.

Msg 6597, Level 16, State 2, Line 1

CREATE AGGREGATE failed.

What is this UDAGG specification ?

How can I make this function working?

ODBC Error Returns Error, But Sql Is Fine

Mar 12, 2002

When I run some code through an odbc driver onto a SQL server 6.5 database, from vb an error is being returned along the lines of

22005 Syntax error converting 'string' to INT4

if I copy this code, either from vb or from sql trace, and run it in isql the code runs without any errors.

The only thing I have found is about NULLs so I have removed these from the code that is passed through?

Any more suggestions?

Subqurey Returns More Than One Value Error HELP....

Jul 23, 2005

My update query updates about 50 columns and they all have the sameformat: (Im using ADP to interact with the SQL Server)UPDATE dbo.GIS_EVENTS_TEMPSET VEH1TYPE =(SELECT VEHICLETYPEFROM VEHICLE AS AWHERE(GIS_EVENTS_TEMP.CASEID = A.CRASHNUMBER) AND(A.UNITID = 1)),VEH2TYPE = (....... same as above with UNITID = 2)VEH1DAM = (Same format different tables...)....nThe problem is that it's part of an import process that is dependent ondata from an outside source which come once a month.I found an error in one of the tables (a duplicate ID) which should notbe in the table this is causeing the "Subqurey returns more than onevalue" error.How can I guard against this..? If possible I would like it to onlyreturn the first value..I tried "COALESCE" but I couldn't get it to work I also tried "SELECTDISTINCT"....Any Ideas would be great.....

Sp_xp_cmdshell_proxy_account Returns Error Code 5

Aug 6, 2007

As part of configuring my SQL Server 2005 box to be able to use the xp_cmdshell function, I ran sp_xp_cmdshell_proxy_account to set up the credentials:

sp_xp_cmdshell_proxy_account 'DomainDomainUser', 'password'

Unfortunately, it just returns:

Msg 15137, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_xp_cmdshell_proxy_account, Line 1
An error occurred during the execution of sp_xp_cmdshell_proxy_account. Possible reasons: the provided account was invalid or the '##xp_cmdshell_proxy_account##' credential could not be created. Error code: '5'.

I am assuming that this is an "Access Denied" error message. Has anyone got any ideas on why this is happening or what I can do to narrow down what the problem is. I can't find any logs with further information.

I have used a similar setup on another SQL Server 2005 box before and have never had a problem running the sp_xp_cmdshell_proxy_account function. I can't see what I have done differently this time.

Further information:

The SQL Server and SQL Server Agent services are running under the DomainDomainUser account.

I have given the DomainDomainUser the following privileges:
Act as part of the operating system
Log on as a batch job
Log on as a service
Replace a process level token

Let me know if you need any further information.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Severe Performance Hit With NCHAR Queries

Nov 22, 2006

Hey there :)Sorry if I'm asking a dumb question here, but I'm still quite new to MS SQL,so this problem might appear larger to me than it really is.I'm trying to create a performance test environment for a Ruby on Rails andMongrel setup with an MS SQL Server 2000.The adapter, mssqlclient, uses some kind of "conversion" for unicode, here'sa quote from the homepage:"Automatically translate from proper UTF-16LE nvarchar fields in thedatabase to UTF-8 Ruby Strings you can display in your application"As far as the local DB designer knows, we're not using UTF16-LE nvarcharfields, unless it's something that happens implicitly.Either way, this is how a query from the mssqlclient adapter might look:SELECT TOP 1 * FROM Item WHERE (Item.Itemnumber = N'45783745')Response time the first couple of times was upwards of 20+ seconds, afterthe sql server has "awaken from its slumber", it's roughly 4 seconds.Omitting the "N" from the WHERE clause, response time is in milliseconds (asone would expect, regardless of the fact that there's currently >2.5million items in the table).Any tips on how to resolve this? Is the SQL statement bad, or is it aquestion of configuring SQL Server correctly?Thanks in advance for any help,Daniel Buus :)--http://www.rhesusb.dk

Update Statement Returns Error Due To Duplicates

Feb 26, 2008

Hi All,
When I use the following I get an error. I think it is because of duplicate records in my table.

Update person
Set username = (Select username
From update_person
Where person.firsname = update_person.firstname
and person.lastname = update_person.lastname)

There are a few users that have the same first and last name. How can I ignore the duplicate records and continue to update the table?

Thanks in advance.

OLE DB Command And Stored Procedure That Returns Value And/or Error

May 23, 2006

Guys,

could someone please tell me : am I supposed to use the OLE DB
Command in a dataflow to call a stored procedure to return a value? Or
is it just supposed to be used to call a straightforward insert
statement only?

What I am hoping to do:

I have a table with a few columns and one identity column. In a
dataflow I would like to effect an insert of a record to this table and
retrieve the identity value of the inserted record... and I'd like to
store the returned identity in a user variable.

If I AM supposed to be able to do this... then how on earth do I do it?

I have spent hours fooling around with the OLE DB command trying to call a stored proc and get a return value.

In the Advanced Editor any time I try to add an output column (by
clicking on Add Column) I just get an error dialog that says "the
component does not allow adding columns to this input or output)

So, am getting pretty concussed .. banging my head of the wall like this...

So put me out of my misery someone please.... is the OLE DB Command intended for this or not?

Thanks

Valid Stored Procedure Returns Error In ASP.net Application

Jan 17, 2005

I have a stored procedure that works when executed in query analyzer. (It is also way too long to post here) When called from my application ado.net returns the error:

Invalid object name #idTable

If I run the proc in query analyzer using the same parameters (copied from quickwatch while debugging) there is no error.

While very complicated, this procedure runs quickly so timing out is not an issue.

Does anyone know why a proc would run in query analyzer and not in an asp.net/c# application?

Thank you.

SQL Server Cases

Oct 11, 2005

Hi all,

I'm looking for some online resources here. Specifically, I'm interested in finding some case/project examples to learn more. I'm looking for any and all kinds in all areas...ADO, Security, Maintenance, etc. I've worn out google, but the most I seem to find is articles. I'm looking for actual Cases, like one you'd find in a text.

I have a text book from a couple of courses I took in school. Unfortunately it doesn't delve much into said areas. Any resources you could point me I will greatly appreciate it. I'd even be interested in some actual books if there's any that any of you have experience with that you think would help me out. Thanks for reading.

ClusterDistance() Of Zero For All Cases

Jan 10, 2007

I recently added a nested table to a model that I had been using for a while. I noticed that after I added the nested table that the ClusterDistance() function returned 0 for every case. I went ahead and changed some of the keys for the nested table records so that the values would show up as missing and now the cases with a missing value have a non-zero ClusterDistance() value. Can anyone help me understand why this may be happening?

Thanks.

Transact SQL :: Function To Find Last Date Of Month One Year Ago - RETURNS ERROR

Apr 28, 2015

I've written sql code which takes a date and finds the Last Day of the Month one year ago. For example, it takes the date '2015-04-17' and returns the date '2014-04-30'. The code works fine in a query. Now I'm trying to turn this into a function. However, when I try to create the function I get the error:

Operand type clash: date is incompatible with int

Why is this error being returned?

Here is my function:

  SET @Result =  convert(DATE, DATEADD(s,-1,DATEADD(mm, DATEDIFF(m,0,dateadd(m, -11, @Input)+1),0)),101)
