Calculated Measure From 2 Fact Tables

I have a cube with 2 fact tables and I would like to create a calculated measure that uses values from both tables like:

fact1.measure1 / fact2.measure2

I can't see how to do this?

Analysis :: Calculated Measure To Check Measure Value Updates By Month?

In my cube there are two measures which are used in different calculations.Now I'm need to show in report if there any months in data when both or even another one of the measures is not updated (value = 0 or NULL).

how should I create the calculated measure for that?

I have tried in mgmt studio to plan this but I'm in a loop of errors.

Calculated Measure (Previous Act Value) Problem

G'Day all,

I am having trouble with a calculation that on the surface seems to be working until it is opened up in excel.

The measure calculates the Actual Value as of last year and is as follows - ([Measures].[Act Val],ParallelPeriod([Time].[Year],1))

This works fine until I look at the totals within EXCEL 2002/2003

1)If I choose to view a whole year then the total shows me a whole year. That is fine and as expected.

2)If I choose part of the year the total shows me the whole year. This is wrong and am wondering if it is an Excel probem or my calculation? But here is the weird part -

3)If I choose another year and select the same months as I have already chosen (ie Year 20023 Jan, Feb and Year 2003 Jan and Feb) then the total for the year that is already selected works!!(shows only the total of the two months - whereas the extra year I have selected (remember - Jan Feb only) shows me a total for the whole year.

WAIT - There's more

4)If I add another month to the 2002 selection (ie add March) then the total for 2003 (Jan Feb only) includes the March value also (even though it is not selected)!!!!!!

Any Ideas??

Does it make sense??

Analysis :: Dynamic Calculated Measure In MDX

 I have a dimension called as DIM1 which has list of all measures and has an attribute called as ATTRMDX Formula. The formula will be like

([DIM1].[ATTR Measure Code].&[M1],[Measures].[ATTR MEASURE VALUE])+([DIM1].[ATTR Measure Code].&[M2],[Measures].[ATTR MEASURE VALUE]).

I want to pass this formula to a calculated measure as given below -

MEMBER [Measures].[FormMeasure] as ([Measure].[ATTRMDX Formula].currentmember.MEMBERVALUE)

but I get the string value itself as output, but when I put the formula as a string in the calculated measure I obtain the value.

I am trying to count a set as a calculated measure, when this set is called directly in the row , it returns fast, but when i try to count the set as calculated measure(so i can slice with another dimension) the query keeps running forever.

Analysis :: Browsing Measure Via Fact Dimension Showing Incorrect Data?

I have a Fact table that contains several degenerate string values that I have pulled into a Fact Dimension.

When I browse the cube and cut one of the measures by an attribute from the Fact Dimension, I am getting incorrect data.

In other words, when I query the fact table directly via SQL and apply the same filters, I see the data I am expecting to see. But cube browse with same filters yields different results.

How can this happen since the fact dimension has a 1:1 relationship with the fact table.

I do have the Dimension Usage configured properly.

Is this an aggregation thing? Attribute key thing? What am I missing?

Calculated Measure For A Varying Time Period

Hello! Given three dimensions in my cube (Product, Calendar, & Sales). I'm trying to create a calculated measure that will sum 8 weeks of sales starting from the third week in which sales started. For instance, weeks 1-4 had zero sales. Week 5 is the first appearance of any sales. Therefore, the measure would sum the sales of weeks 7-14 (8 weeks starting with the 3rd week after sales begin).

Any ideas?? Keep in mind that every product is going to be different (sales start in different weeks).

Power Pivot :: DAX - Min / Max And Average On Calculated Measure

I have a calculated measure that is "Cost Per Patient:=sum([ActualCost]) / sum(Patients[PatientCount])" and it works fine. I'd like to be able to create another calculated measure based on "cost per patient" that uses min, max and average of "cost per patient" but dax wont let me.

I've read about dax calculate but not sure how to use it in my situation. Here is background on the problem:

There are 2 fact tables, prescription cost and patient count. Both are related by a practice dimension. The practice dimension has a geography hierarchy of county - town - practice. 

The "Cost Per Patient" works fine with the geography hierarchy. By that I mean it shows the correct value when looking at the different levels. For my new calculation, for example looking at the list of counties, I want to use the min, max and average of "Cost Per Patient" of all counties. To break the problem down, I was going to start with creating and testing separate calculated measures for min, max and average and that's where I am stuck.

My understanding of the problem is it's something to do with the context of where the calculation is being made. As I want to perform the min, max and average on all the children of the parent. This article explains it but I can't figure out how to apply it to my situation [URL] ....

Power Pivot :: DAX Calculated Measure For Sum Of Max Values

We have a client that wants to take the Max value of a count at the Product level, but then for each Brand (Parent of product), sum the Max values for that particular slice.  The example below shows the Max sales per month over the last 6 months. 

Prod1 had it's best month in Month2 (20 units) and Prod2 had its best month in Month4 (30 units).  Brandx should roll up to 50 units.  Can DAX handle this in a single Calc Measure?

Power Pivot :: Calculated Measure Maxing Out RAM

I have a calculated measure in Power Pivot that takes too long to run that it would max out my RAM when running it in Excel 2016 (for some reason it actually manages to run in Excel 2013 but still takes a long time). How to optimise the measure? I have shared the measure below. it is the Unique Leads (MTD) measure that I need to run in a pivot table that is broken down by everyday in a month. The Unique Leads (MTD) measure basically calculates the month-to-date unique leads where a unique lead is defined as an email address that has not appeared in the 'application' table thus far in a particular month.

SQL 2012 :: SSAS Cube - Show Dimension Attributes For Only One Specific Fact Measure?

I have built a fact table and few dimension views in Datamart with the aim of creating a Cube.

On the Fact table I have added a CASE Statement with the following threshold for Premium due amounts:

CASE WHEN....
'Due_0-1_Month'
'Due_1-2_Month'
'Due_2-3_Month'
'Due_Over_3_Months'
'Overdue_0-1_Month'
'Overdue_1-3_Month'
'Overdue_3-6_Month'

I then created a Dimension to link this to:

I was successful in processing the cube, however the problem is everytime I drag the dimension on the columns field in Pivot tables the Thresholds start to break up the other amounts that I have on display like Acquisition Costs, Tax amounts. I am only interested in showing the breakdown of Premium amount measure by the Threshold dimension.

somehow 'Hide' or 'prevent' the Threshold dimension from breaking down the other measures on the Pivot and only breakdown the amounts for Premium?

how I should structure my tables in SQL or any MDX queries to resolve this.

I try to calculate the turnover of an employee based on all sales on this customer and the hours spends working for this customer.To simplify, I have 2 tables.General Ledger table.I have customer no and sales.And activity table,I have customer no, hours and users.To be able to calculate the average of a customer, I made an average value based on the sales/divided by the hours on activity table.Customer 1 sales of 100$.Value of the customer is 10$/H -> John 40$ / Mike 60$.How can I use the information 10$/h to use it with the hours from a employee.

Calculated Measure Causes RsMissingFieldInDataSet And Breaks Report Expressions

Robert Bruckner [MSFT] in his response to "This field is missing from the returned result set" says that rsMissingFieldInDataSet is "only a warning"

I have a report with 7 simple calculated measures to show counts for 7 ratings: ([Measures].[Score Card Count],[Attainment].[Attainment - ATTAINMENT].<rating>).

6 measures work fine; one, for which there is no rating in the fact table returns rsMissingFieldInDataSet warning. Even worse, if I use this field in an expression in the report with other measures, the return is always nothing.

In other words, although this is "only" a warning, it actually causes errors by not returning values from expressions.

I tried to check for null/nothing but could not prevent "breaking" the expressions. Any ideas?

Pb With Calculated Measure And Totals (grand Total Or Anysubtotals)

Hi,

I've created a calculated measure which is a division between 2 other measures which i also have displayed in the cube.
of course as soon as there is some level of aggregation, the shown result is an averaged division and therefore is wrong.


here is some example:
A 16874
B 956
C 1354
D 264
E 103
F 81
G 6
H 3
X 23
Total 5198.36...

here the wanted result would be a simple some of all the other values (=19664)

How could i treat totals/aggregation differently or have any good way of solving this issue?
I know there is the aggregatefunction propertie for normal dimension, but i'm not familiar with calculated measures and it seems properties that can be accessed through BIStudio's interface is rather limited.


thanks a lot in advance for your help. I've been looking for tweaks on the data to trick the cube, but couldn't find any way of getting the result i'm looking for.

The user wants to be able, using excel, to apply a filter to all measures in every measure group. I though that I can create a dimension with a single level with two members, let´s say "on" and "off" and depending on the selected member and using an IIF statement decide which formula applies to the calculated measures.

I have serious doubts about the performance and for this technique because I am thinking as a .Net developer and not as a cube developer. Maybe it is better to resolve it scoping the measures but I cannot figure it out.

First measure calculates at Productgroup,color,store,size level

Ignoring that gives another figure for productgroup B. In the pivot, I should see both measures at whatever attribute, except for the measure that excludes color will be null if tried split on color

Power Pivot :: Measure Results Limited By Fact Table Dates Instead Of Date Table

I cannot create a measure that returns results for dates that do not exist in the fact table despite the fact that the components included in the measure contain valid results for these same dates.Creature a measure that counts the number of days where the "stock qty" is below the "avg monthly sales qty for the last 12 months" (rolling measure).Here is the DAX code I have tried for the measure (note that filter explicitly refers to the date table (called Calendar) and not the fact table):

Below you can see the sub measures (circled in red) are giving results for all days in the calendar.Highlighted in yellow are dates for which the StkOutCnt measure is not returning a result. Having investigated these blank dates, I am pretty confident that they are dates for which there are no transactions in the fact table (weekends, public holidays etc...).why I am getting an "inner join" with my fact table dates despite the fact that this is not requested anywhere in the dax code and that the two sub measures are behaving normally?

Dimensions Vs. Factless Fact Tables

I am building a health care application that marries transaction-level data (health care services provided) with person-level characteristics that have a time-dimension. The person-level characteristics are diseases that the person has (these disease all have a start and some have an end date). The diseases are stored in a table in which the foreign keys are a person-identifier, a time identifier (month/year) and a surrogate for the disease. Persons can have more than one disease at a time (the diseases are NOT mutually-exclusive). There are no measures in this table. The transaction table has a foreign key for person and time (month/day/year), a procedure code (the type of service rendered) and money (the cost of the services).

How do I answer the following questions:

What is the total cost of care (the sum of all service costs) last year for persons with "disease A"?

What is the total cost of care last year for persons with "disease A" AND "disease B"?

What is the total cost of care last year for persons with "disease A" OR "disease B"?

I've tried a factless fact table but can't get it to work. If anyone has the right solution and can communicate to me before I slit my wrists, I would be greatly appreciative!!!

Hi,

I am new at SSIS and I am trying to create a Datawarehouse using SSIS. I have the data files as flat files I have the Dimensional Model ready on Paper and Now I need to use the SSIS for the ETL process.

I am trying to figure out how to make dimension tables in SSIS? I mean I want to create the 5 Dimension tables and then create a Fact table out of it but I cant understand where to start? Can any one tell me how we create Dimesion tables in SSIS. Like one of the dimesion tables I need to create uses 2 flat files and is like a flattened dimension, How would I create this in SSIS?

Even if there is any tutorial which shows this step by step do let me know. I would really appreciate any guidance on this.

I want you an urgent respones, I want to add a column to a Dim_table and Fact_table, the Dim_table is sourcing from different database table and now the new column is going to source from another DB, thus without changing the structure of the table relationship can i add a column? To make it clear Dim_table has got Clomun1 from table1, Clomun2 from table2, Clomun3 From table3, Clomun4 From table4. Now I want Clomun5 From table5. How do i add and let it source from table5.

Select Data From Huge Fact Tables

Hi,

I have a situation where I have 4 tables:

1. 2 Dimensional tables(Parent), DIM1 with 50000 rows, and DIM2 with 1000 rows

2. Fact 1 with 50 columns, 25 Million rows and with FK to DIM1 and DIM2

3. Fact 2 with 40 columns, and 25 Million rows and with FK to DIM1 & DIM2 tables.

Actually the fact 1 and fact 2 have same related data but since our Analysis cube person wanted the fact table not to have more than 50 columns we divided the tables into 2, but they have the same compound key.

Above said, I have a situation where I have to select all the columns, in both fact tables, and do a group by. I wrote the query and ran "Analyze Query in the Database Engine Tuning Advisor" for it. It gave bunch of recomendations about the statistics and indexes which I created. When I executed the query the result came up in matter of seconds, which was good.

In the query I had a condition having MarketName='Bridgeview' and DateID = 344 (FK of today-1).

When I wanted the data for last 30 days I changed to DateID in ( > FK of today -32 and < FK of today), the query responded and worked fine.

But when I changed the query to get MarketName='Aurora' (other than I used when I ran Tuning Advisor), the result returned is empty set. When I removed the MarketName condition, it is supposed to return all markets' data, but it returns only Bridgeview data.

I know the data is in the table for all markets, since reports are rendered from these fact tables for all of these markets(also ran queries to check the fact table data).

I am unable to point out the reason why the query behaves like this. It responds to the date change, but not to the MarketName change.

I really appreciate if anyone can help me point out the problem.

How To Implement Incremental Load In Fact Tables.

i have a fact table which loads through package,when
i m trying to load this table by running the package,i m truncating the
fact table and loading the fresh data,instaed of this without
truncating the fact table i have to implement the incremental logic in
this.


For this i can use SCD or Conditional split,but problem
here is i have many source tables to load this fact table,so its
very difficult to trace the changes in different source tables.

can any one help me out in this??????

Copying Dimension And Fact Tables From One Database To Another...

Hi there, my question is really simple. I want to setup an automatic task in SSIS that drops the tables in the target database and substitutes them with tables from the source database. We are talking about two or three dimension tables and one fact table. The dimension tables are pretty small. The fact table will contain, at maximum, 300,000 rows and 12 columns. I do not use delta or flag historisation btw. What tasks in SSIS would you suggest to use?
