Hi,
I am sure there is a simple answer to this, but I cannot find it at the moment???
I have a simple data table in SQL which gives me Division, PL Measure and Value...

Hi
Does any body know that creating free form rports using Report Builder is possible?
Free-form report - in the sense - that user should be able to drag the fields from the leftside fields pane and drop on body as we do in report designer using BI studio.
I could not figure out a way to do so. Is this a limitation?

Hi All
I have a matrigx report that groups by months in the columns. The reason for using a matrix style report is due to not knowing which months are going to exist in the database for the current year.
I do however need to have a static column appended to the matrix, using the same row groupings... I did think of placing a table next to the matrix with that column although im worried the row groupings and alignment may be off of each record.
Is it possible to have a static column inside a matrix that is not grouped by any of the columns just the rows.
What would be the best way to achieve this requirement. I also need to provide the options to hide the months columns and display only the static one and vice-versa...
Any help would be appreciated..

I have a matrix report, which looks like the following:

Column A and B are Row Group columns in the matrix. Column C and D are the details columns. How can I add column header to column A and B. Seems I cannot do it in Reporting Services 2005.

I have Row Group as State and Column group as Status
I need to have one additional column in Matrix named Resolved Count which basically shows conunts for State which got resolved

Hi
I have a huge matrix with 8 columns and then all the data that's generated when choosing a date span. These 8 columns are Topic, Salesperson, Company and so on and then the right part of the matrix grows with values for each month.
My problem is that there are no column headers for the first 8 columns!! How come?
What I did to resolve this was to put in a table in the top left cell and then write in the corresponding column header. This works €¦ in IE but not in PDF or Excel. And I really need it when I export it to Excel.
Any ideas?

I've a matrix report with two row groups. One of the row groups has been used to do alternate coloring in report rows. The issue is that the header text that I've provided for the row group repeats twice. Another interesting point to note here would be this doesn't happen in the report preview but only when the report is displayed through a report viewer in an ASP.Net application. I can guess that it must have got something to do with the invisible row group but can't get my head around on how to avoid it?
The report currently looks something like below:
Month 2007 2008
Month Total Ave % Total Ave %
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
January 12 6 1.5......................etc etc.
I want the text "Month" to come only once. Thanks.

I have a matrix report within a list so it functions as a report with dynamic columns.
Matrix a:
a b c d e
x 1 2 4 9 12 <NEED SUBTOTAL across Columns for row x>
y 6 2 4 5 9 <<NEED SUBTOTAL across Columns for row y>
TOTAL <need totals going down rows and need a grand total>
Remember the number of rows and columns are dynamic so I have NO CLUE how to add a column and display it if and only all the columns have been displayed ...sort of like a COLUMN and ROW footer for a matrix report.
Any help will be appreciated

Hi All,
I am having some trouble getting a Grand Total column at the end of my matrix report (not row at the bottom), such as you get by default in an Excel pivot table.
I have managed so far to add another column that sums up all values across the data range for a particular product code. My intention was to hide all but the last (I did something similar on rows). However you cannot use an expression on the width property for columns, so this will not work.
My report is very standard:
Year
Month (grouped by year)
Product code | Description [qty]
I want a column that displays the total qty across all dates for each row. Surely this is possible?
Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.

The values represent sales for each month.I have got most parts in place except the Month are displayed in random order (1,10,2,3,4,5,6 and so on).I have tried the option to create a calculated column with month numbers and change group properties but that did not work.how to get it to sort display as 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10.

1. Is it possible to use the subtotal as a field for calculating values?
2. Can I add another row to the subtotal area, having two subtotal rows?
I need to achieve the following output:
Months

Subtotal +5 -5

Subtotal 0 0
What I want is to use the subtotal as a variance-field for the two selected years by the user. It could happen that a customer doesn't generate turnover in one year, then the subtotal has to be 0 or 100 or whatever.
If my suggestions aren't applicable then I'd like to know If there is another possibility to display the desired results.

I have embedded a subreport in the detail section of my report. When I view the subreport in page preview mode it renders with three columns, but when it is rendered w/in the main report in page preview mode the 3 column layout is rendered as a single verticle column.
I've defined the columns in the Body/Columns. I have also set the report inteactivesize and pagesize heights in an attempt to remedy the issue. Margins are set to 0.
Any help is appreciated.

This code works fine, except that the first row of the matrix shows an #error
This happens with each matrix where I use this expression. A warning emerges:

Attempted to divide by zero.
The strange thing is that the part
Fields!year.Value=First(Fields!year.Value,"Category")
should prevent an error and I expect it to show 'nothing'
An screenshot of the table. (each color is a different category. Each row stands for 2013, 2014, 2015)
As you can see, all other 2013 rows show a blank cell, except the first row.

I have got this matrix and I am trying to calculate the average amount of working days in a month. At the moment, I have divided the total number of jobs by 21 for every month which is a hard coded value. However, I am not sure how to retrieve this value dynamically. Is there any formula that can find out the working days?

Hello, I'm really stuck at trying to figure out how to write out the proper SQL statement for my problem. I'm relatively new to SQL, so this may not be so tough for some of you. Basically, a user logs in (I'm using the default membership provider) and goes to his INBOX to see his list of messages sent to him. The list is presented to him via a datalist. Each item of the datalist contains a table of 2 columns and 1 row as pictured below. The first box contains the user photo and user name of the person who SENT him the message (not the logged in user). The second box contains the subject title of the message.

So basically, from a simplistic high level point of view, the datalist is going to list all of the messages where Message.toMember = the logged in user. The senders will be determined by the Member.fromMember fields. Intuitive enough so far, I guess. This is the SQL statement I have so far.....
SELECT aspnet_Users.UserName, Message.subjectFROM aspnet_Users, Member, MessageWHERE aspnet_Users.UserName = Profile.UserName AND aspnet_Users.UserId = Member.UserId AND Member.memberId = Message.toMember
Note that I'm grabbing the logged in user info from Profile.UserName. So far, this SQL statement should make the datalist crank out all messages that were sent to the logged in user. HOWEVER, how would I modify this so that the datalist generates the username of the sender, NOT the receiver (aka person who logged in)? Do you see the core of my dilemna here? I'm trying to get a resultset based on the Message.toMember (the logged in user), but also want data on the sender (the Message.fromMember so I can use the username and the photo of the SENDER, not the person logged in aka the RECEIVER). Currently, the aspnet_Users in the SELECT statement gets the username of the logged in person, not the sender.
And once we solve the issue of retrieving the sender's username, I also have to get his MAIN photo (I say "main" since a user can have multiple photos and the main one is determined by the value in a given member's primaryPhotoId field of the Member table) ?? I'm a newbie to ASP.NET and to databases in general so this may not be as tough for most of you and perhaps you're laughing at the simplicity hehe. The SQL statement so far asks to retrieve information based on the logged in user. But how do I also tell it to now go grab the Message.fromMember data, go back to the Member table to A)get the username after going back to the aspnet_Users table and B) to get the Member.primaryPhotoId, and then finally to the Photo table where the Photo.photoUrl string value is obtained..... and still hang on to the results I have up until now? And since I'm using the provided datalist control, I think I need to get all the results I need with just one SQL statement. This is indeed very very complicated for me lol.
This problem has been giving me migraines this whole weekend. Has anyone been through such a problem before? Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance.

I've a weird problem in my application. In of the pages, while trying to update the text box "Name", when I enter Linda's test, it gets saved as Linda''s test. I'm not sure if this is a problem due to SQL server. When I look at the stored procedure, I don't anything different. Also, when I update the table directly in SQL Server, the result is displayed in single quote. But if I update the field thro' the application, the returned name is with double quotes instead of single quote. Has any of you faced problems like this? What am I missing? What do I need to do to get the name saved the way I entered (with single quotes) instead of double quotes?

I am trying to create a whole number DAX calculated column that is derived from a date column. Basically it gets the date from the source data column and outputs it as an integer in the YYYYMMDD format.So 01/OCT/2015 would become --> 20151001...I've been fidgeting with DAX but my problem is that I keep missing the leading zeroes for months and days. So 01/March/2015 becomes 201531 which is not what I want (I need 20150301 in this case).

I'm a real novice user and I we use SQL Server. I have a table called TableLog that has the 4 columns. The first column is repeated x number of times for each value in the second column. I'd like to see this information put into a matrix where I could tell if there are any missing intersections. In addition, I need to insert a WHERE clause that says "BETWEEN 20090000 AND 20100000" for the first and second columns.
Example data in the table:
ID1 ID2 MRSSI
100 200 63
100 300 63
200 100 63
200 300 63
300 100 63
Desired matrix: P = Pass and F = Fail
100 200 300
100 n/a P P
200 P n/a P
300 P F P
From the example data, there's no intersection for 300 and 200 so a F is displayed.

Hi,
I'm using Reporting Services 2005. In my report I'm binding data in a matrix by grouping 3 row fields (nested within each other) and 1 column field. Now I get the subtotals alright but I also want to get percentage at row1 only rather than grouping it with either in row or in column. I've tried so many ways but am not able to do it. Can anybody help me on this or is there a way in SSRS 2005 to get over this.
Also please suggest something instantly, as I'm terribly in the need

That is, for example, having the following report:

Then I
would add some ratios, that is, Units Sold/Months (sold per month) and other that
is the average for Product Family (Units Sold/Number of Product Family), for putting an example€¦ some
columns should be precalculated prior to the report so do not get into it, the
real problem I don€™t see how to solve is adding one or two columns for showing
these calculated column that doesn€™t depend on the column groups but they do
for the rows groups€¦
Any guidance
on that?

way I am seeing by now is to set it as two different reports, and that is not
what my client wants€¦

I'm trying to build a report that calculates a summary of all my applicants based on the center they're enrolled in.
I have built a table that displays all applicants and sorts them by the center and I can use the count function to get a count of ALL applicants for all centers, but not a count of each center in one report:
example:

I need the count of all applicants from center 1, center 2, etc..

Can someone help me with the following query? I need to take the derived value from one column and calculate another column with it.

As I play with joins and functions to help mold my data.. I'm
thinking
about options.
I have a status table with termination status entries that will
dictate participation spans for members.. a member can have multiple
stop and start status entries in that status table. I've built an
sql function that given a member's ID and a month/year will return the
number of days the member particpated in the month.
I need to produce an SSRS report that given a starting month/year
will report days of activity for every member for the next four months.
So my report will look like this:
memberid 2007/06 2007/07 2007/08 2007/09
001 10 0 20 5
002 0 2 55 1
Should I build a view that given the starting yearmonth returns
month1 - 4's data in a row?
or is there a smarter design? Possibly a row for each month? or SSRS
formulas? Maybe the formula is gonna be a performance killer.

Starting total refers to all the employees that have a starting date before 1/1/2007 and a ending date after 1/1/2007
The monthly columns would be the total of employees with a starting date (+1) or ending date (-1) in that month.
The total column is the starting total plus the monthly totals.
And the variation is the difference of the total with the starting total.
Any ideas?

I'm writing a query that calculates values for each id, then I need to sum up all the values for each id and put them in another field, here is what I wrote but SQL cannot understand the column that I calculeted
select id,term_cd,
case when RIGHT(term_cd, 1) IN ('6') and substring(term_cd, 2,4) <= 2004) then '1'
when substring(term_cd, 2,4) <= 2004 and RIGHT(term_cd, 1) = 5 then '0.5'

SQL gives me an error "invalid column name tern_count" in the line where I calculate the sum.
what's wrong with the query? or should I calculate the term_count in an inner query?
