Calculating Values In Multiple Tables Within A UDF In SQL Server

Hi,
I'm using scalar UDFs in SQL server to return computed values. I've been trying to use the same udfs to perform the same computations but from different tables, but I'm not sure how. Can someone please help???
Here's an example of a counter that I'm using to return the number of days.
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[MarketPulse_fn_Counter] (@date smalldatetime, @date2 smalldatetime, @osid int)
RETURNS int AS

How can I use this same UDF to do the same computation but to SELECT from another table and return that value?

I have a table which contains readingtime (records every 4 seconds during the day) and an energy reading. I wanted to know how much energy was used in a day. This is the query that i used
SELECT date(readingtime), max(energy)-min(energy)as total FROM lights_1 WHERE readingtime between 20140407000000 and 20140409235959 Group by date(readingtime) LIMIT 0,30;
This gave me the desired results for 1 table. I have 4 tables of these lights_2, Lights_3, lights_4 and i would like to display them together and hence match up the reading time so each day has the energy requirements for all for tables with the total. When i try and join tables i get a lot of errors!

I am trying to create a query that outputs the following data from multiple tables. Here is an example of the raw data right now

Here is the desired counted output, I would like to pull distinct Date, MachineNumber, TestName and then count how many times they occur in the raw data form.I do need to perform a case on the date because right now its in a datetime format and I only need the date.

I am pulling three columns with the same names from 8 different tables. What I need to display the date, machine & test name and count how many times a test was run on a machine for that date. I have a feeling this can be handled by SSAS but haven't built an analysis cube yet because I am unfamiliar with how they work. I was wondering if this is possible in a simple query. I tried to set something up in a #Temp table. Problem is the query takes forever to run because I am dealing with 1.7 Million rows. Doing an insert into #temp select columnA, columnB, columnC from 8 different tables takes a bit.

I am working with a data set containing several years' of monetary values. I have entries for past dates and the associated values, and I also have entries for future dates. Hi All, am new to sql server in my application I am having one Asp.net web page, the user has to enter values for 5 fields(Empno,Empname,salary,deptno,deptname) in that web page and for that i created two tables in sql serverEmp Table- empno(primary key),empname,salaryDept Table- Deptno(primary key),empno(Foreign key ),Deptname(with some check constraint.) I am trying to add records to 2 separate tables and each table has a unique ID from the other table. I need to find the highest number ID from both tables (and add 1) and add a record with both new values to both tables.

Hi, i m using vwd 2005 express and sql express. i have created following tables table_office,table_customer,table_order in my sql express. i also added one more table named table_final. In my webform i have 2 textbox and submit button plus(controls to take values for table_office,table_customer,table_order).so when user fills the form and clicks the button the data gets inserted into thier respected tables.similarly table_final gets populated with values in this way (id,name,address,table_office_id,table_customer_id,table_order_id) Now when displaying the output in the gridview. i combined values of all these tables together. its fine till here. Now what i want is i want to write a query to retrieve these values back into the webform . Here i want the values from all the tables back into the webform controls on a click of a button.so that i can modify it manually, make updation on it and finally show it into gridview. i hope i m able to make u understand. anyway can somebody help me with simple code(C#) and sql query to achieve this task.? thanks. jack.

best way to go about this. My query works great and displays the information I require.
EG all demographic for ED, IP & OP. However if a patient has a record in each of the tables then I get the same info multiple times.
What I'm trying to do is a Select Distint against the entire query (below).
eg Select Distinct * from all below.

I have a form to assign JOB SITES to previously created PROJECT. The JOB SITES appear in the DataList as it varies based on customer. It can be 3 to 50 JOB SITES per PROJECT.
I have "PROJECT" table with all necessary fields for project information and "JOBSITES" table for job sites. I also created a new table called "PROJECTSITES" which has only 2 columns: "ProjectId" and "SiteId".
What I am trying to do is to insert multiple rows into that "PROJECTSITES" table based on which checkbox was checked. The checkbox is located next to each site and I want to be able to select only the ones I need. Btw the Datalist is located inside of a formview and has it's own datasource which already distincts which JOBSITES to display.
Sample:
ProjectId - SiteId
1 - 5
1 - 9
1 - 16
1 - 18
1 - 20
1 - 27
1 - 31
ProjectId stays the same, only values for SiteId are being different.
I hope I explaining it right. Do I have to use some sort of loop to go through the automatically populated DataList records and how do I make a multiple inserts to database table? We use SQL Server 2005 and VB for code behind. Please ask if I missed on some information. Thank you in advance.

I want to produce some output for Mainframe application. For that I want to insert values from multiple table as source to a single column (huge in size)of a different table (Destination table). There may be same related records in all of the source tables with the primary key. When I export values from the source tables , each related records should be insterted to the destination table's field (multiple entries for each table). Please advise.

I am trying to create a report using Reporting Services.
My problem right now is that the way the table is constructed, I am trying to pull 3 seperate values i.e. One is the number of Hours, One is the type of work, and the 3rd is the Grade, out of one column and place them in 3 seperate columns in the report.
I can currently get one value but how to get the information I need to be able to use in my reports.
So far what I've been working with SQL Reporting Services 2005 I love it and have made several reports, but this one has got me stumped.
Any help would be appreciated.

I might not have made my problem quite clear enough. My table has one column labeled value. The value in that table is linked through an ID field to another table where the ID's are broken down to one ID =Number of Hours, One ID = Grade and One ID= type of work.
What I'm trying to do is when using these ID's and seperate the value related to those ID's into 3 seperate columns in a query for using in Reporting Services to create the report
As you can see, I'm attempting to change the name of the same column 3 times to reflect the correct information and then link them all to the person, where one person might have several entries in the other fields.
As you can see I can change the names individually in queries and pull the information seperately, it's when roll them altogether is where I'm running into my problem

I have 2 separate queries, one produces a total and one doesn't at the moment as the criteria are not met.
I want to add the total field from both these queries together but becuase one is null value, the sum total is also null.
In access I would have used nz([Qry_1].[Total])+nz([Qry_2].[Total]) to get over this but SQL/adp doesnt seem to understand this.

Starting total refers to all the employees that have a starting date before 1/1/2007 and a ending date after 1/1/2007
The monthly columns would be the total of employees with a starting date (+1) or ending date (-1) in that month.
The total column is the starting total plus the monthly totals.
And the variation is the difference of the total with the starting total.
Any ideas?

Hello, I have 2 tables, first is the mineral values, 2nd is ore composition... Minerals table:

I'm in the process of building various queries and I'm having issue calculation values in the following code. I need to calculate the maximum and minimum salary for exempt employees and include a column that calculates the difference in these numbers. I have no issue creating views and outputing data. When I try to calculate the values I receive errors:

Hello forum.
I have three columns in my table with the following datatypes:
Date - DateTime
Height - Decimal
Change_From_last_Height - Decimal
I am using "SQL Server 2005 Express Edition". I'm fairly new to SQL and would greatly appreciate any help or advice I can get.
The "date" column increases by an extra day in every new row and I then enter the new height of the plant. What I want to know is how I can get SQL server express to automatically enter the difference in height between the current row's height and that of the previous row.
Is it possible to automate the entry in the Change_From_Last_Height column in SQL?
Put another way, I know how to find the difference between two values in the same row but different columns, but how do I calculate the difference between values in adjacent Rows (ie. Rows next to each other)?

I have to Lists filtered by the same field. One List shows all records with the field IsClokedIn value = TRUE and the other list =FALSE. I have only one dataset that retrieve the ClockIn and Clock out for one user. In a perfect world, the user MUST clock in and always clock out. So, when i created my dataset i ordered by UserClockingID (whick is primary key). So, this MUST retrieve a dataset with alternate records IN / OUT (TRUE or FALSE)
Ex.

All i need is to calculate (sum then divide by 60) the minutes returned by the method DateDiff between the first row in my TRUE filtered list and the first row in my FALSE filetered list... and so on for the 2nd, 3rd ..... I can get the minutes by taking the values directly from the Fields!IsClockedIn.Value and using a condition to "grab" the previous record if the current record ClockedIn.Value=FALSE. I already did that.
my problem is that when i try to perform a calculation of textboxes values(those with the ammount of minutes for every pair of records from the datalist) out of the group. It says you can only do that inside the group or dataregion.
Is there any work around?
I really need to get this solved.

Hi All,
I have a very complicated project and for some reason I have decided to use SQL server as the backend database. I am new to it and have encountered my first problem. In basic terms what I want to be able to do is increment/decrement a field in a table according to something that happens in a different table. Where do I start?
So for example, a stereo system/cd player can have 10 cds at one particular time, when 2 cds are removed, then 8 slots are available. Then when 1 of the 2 remaining slots are filled then 1 slot remains and so on....so I want some sort of a counter field. Using that field I want to be able to generate a report on what is currently available.
Please Excuse my lame example but can anyone please help?

I have two tables that look like this (below). One tells me the name of my product, the Amazon Category it is in & the amount that I want to sell it for. The other tells me the Category & the fee for that category. So far so good. Though it gets tricky in the sense that some categories have two tiers. So in Electronics, the fee for $0.00 - $100.00 is 15%. But from $100 and up it is 8%.
Since it has two columns & both of the new columns pertain to the fee of my product, I can't figure out how to use both at once. For my $599.99 example it would be ($100 * 0.15) + ($499.99 * 0.08) = $55.00. Would I pivot the data? If not, how would I group it to be considered together?

Hi! I have a general SQL CE v3.5 design question related to table/file layout. I have an system that has multiple tables that fall into categories of data access. The 3 categories of data access are:
1 is for configuration-related data. There is one application that will read/write to the data, and a second application that will read the data on startup.
1 is for high-performance temporal storage of data. The data objects are all the same type, but they are our own custom object and not just simple types.
1 is for logging where the data will be permanent - unless the configured size/recycling settings cause a resize or cleanup. There will be one application writing alot [potentially] of data depending on log settings, and another application searching/reading sections of data.
When working with data and designing the layout, I like to approach things from a data-centric mindset, because this seems to result in a better performing system. That said, I am thinking about using 3 individual SDF files for the above data access scenarios - as opposed to a single SDF with multiple tables. I'm thinking this would provide better performance in SQL CE because the query engine will not have alot of different types of queries going against the same database file. For instance, the temporal storage is basically reading/writing/deleting various amounts of data. And, this is different from the logging, where the log can grow pretty large - definitely bigger than the default 128 MB. So, it seems logical to manage them separately.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions from the SQL CE experts with regard to my approach. If there are any tips/tricks with respect to different data access scenarios - taking into account performance, type of data access, etc. - I would love to take a look at that.

Very basically, I need to return a result set based on another value and only if there are multiples of that other value.
Example. select * from mytable
Returns (--column separater)
John---1---1

John---2---2
John---3---3
John---3---3
John---4---4
So I want a query that would return only
John---1---1
John---1---1
John---3---3
John---3---3
The query cannot be something as simple as this:
Select * from mytable where John=1 or John=3
I have to many possible results to plan like that. I am thinking some kind of aggregate with a group.

Attempting to build a report were you can place a specific code in the parameter field and it will return all row values based on that particular code. I have a similar report that works great, but the specific code is just in 1 column, the one I'm trying to create has the potential to have that code in up to 20 different spots. I have the report built, but the issue I'm facing is linking the parameter. Is there a way to link 1 parameter to multiple column options?
Here's an example:

Right now if I were to link the parameter to the Pend1 field, I would get every line I wanted that had Pend "123", but it would not include any of the lines where Pend "123" was in Pend 2, Pend 3, Pend 4, so on.
How would I link the parameter to more than 1 column so it would return all rows with a specific code no matter which Pend column it was in?

All I have a table full of invoices and in that table there is a field named HCC. An invoice can contain multiple HCC's. I also have a table named hierarchical codes (below is an example)

I know how to check for a sinle vlaue but how do I chekc to see if multiple values exist. I need to check for certain email addresses from a list that I have.
Let us say I ahve 3 email addresses, I want to check for all of them in a table and for eevery email address that is present I want to print something like "You email address is XXX" and if one of those 3 is not found my results should look like

When I check multiples using EXISTS it works as per its design and says YES even if a single item is present.
