Calculation From Measure && Dimension, Please Help !!
Dec 16, 2005
Hello
I am a newbye with Analysis Services and am desperately trying to find a way to include a calculation between one of my measures (Teus), divided by the vessel capacity, where vessel is one of my dimensions (and is therefore not depended on other dimensions...)
Any ideas how I could implement that ?? This would help a lot, thanks for your help,
I am a newbye with Analysis Services and am desperately trying to find a way to include a calculation between one of my measures (Teus), divided by the vessel capacity, where vessel is one of my dimensions (and is therefore not depended on other dimensions...)
Any ideas how I could implement that ?? This would help a lot, thanks for your help,
i want to create a new measure that will behave based on the dimension dropped,ex. if i added the employee dimension only it will aggregate data from the #Calls Count but if i added the product dimension it should display # Product Calls at the product level and #Calls Count at the employee level as shown in the screen shot.
I have a Fact table that contains several degenerate string values that I have pulled into a Fact Dimension.
When I browse the cube and cut one of the measures by an attribute from the Fact Dimension, I am getting incorrect data.
In other words, when I query the fact table directly via SQL and apply the same filters, I see the data I am expecting to see. But cube browse with same filters yields different results.
How can this happen since the fact dimension has a 1:1 relationship with the fact table.
I do have the Dimension Usage configured properly.
Is this an aggregation thing? Attribute key thing? What am I missing?
Need to resolve this calculation, which I would believe is something very common on SSAS environments.Â
Like many companies, my company has different ways of calculating Sales and the two I want to focus are Sales Gross and Sales Net.Â
At a high level, we calculate Sales Gross as Sales with returns, and Sales Net as Sales without returns.
We have an attribute called Order Type that has various types of orders a user can execute with my company. One of them is Returns. If you return something back to us, we record that as a return line on the sales table. With that, we can calculate that return, breaking data down by Order Type, such as:
Order Type Line Total
Mail Orders $ 776,655.44
Internet Orders $ 2,211,334.00
Call Center Orders $ 11,223,344.00
Credit Orders  $ (55,666.00)
Today, to calculate Sales Gross and Sales Net, we are creating two dimensions: DimSalesGross and DimSalesNet.Â
To calculate Sales Gross, we leave the data at the natural state, not making any changes to mappings.Â
To calculate Sales Net, we map Credit Orders to Call Center Orders at the ETL level, getting a Net value for sales (Orders - Returns), however, I doubt this is the correct way of doing.Â
I would like to have a Line Total Net / Line Total Gross calculation, which would be based on the Order Type value.
Perhaps using a CASE statement in MDX? Is the above possible?
CREATE VIEW... Select 'Due_0-1_Month' as Ageing_Threshold union all Select 'Due_1-2_Month' union all Select 'Due_2-3_Month'
[Code] ....
I was successful in processing the cube, however the problem is everytime I drag the dimension on the columns field in Pivot tables the Thresholds start to break up the other amounts that I have on display like Acquisition Costs, Tax amounts. I am only interested in showing the breakdown of Premium amount measure by the Threshold dimension.
somehow 'Hide' or 'prevent' the Threshold dimension from breaking down the other measures on the Pivot and only breakdown the amounts for Premium?
how I should structure my tables in SQL or any MDX queries to resolve this.
Just found that I am not able to ignore the name column property for role-palying dimension even though I only select one of the key columns for this dimension in the mining structure where the role-playing dimension is used? E.g I have a fact table (which is the case table for the mining structure) which is related to the role-playing date dimension. The schema is as following:
Dim_event_day_time_key
Dim_carrier_day_time_key
Dim_domain_day_time_key
.....................................
and other attibutes in the fact table.
When I dragged the 'hours' attribute from the dim_day_time table to the mining structure, if I left the key columns of 'Hours' as the above 3 columns, then I have to select a name column, by then I dont have a name column in the dimension table yet. Therefore I want to jsut select one key column as the key of that role-playing dimension in the mining structure, but then I am not able to ignore the 'name column' property as it still always asks me to select the 'name column' for that.
Therefore my question is: we are not allowed to select only one key columns in the mining structure for the role-playing dimension? And we will have to always go to the data source view to create a named calculation as the new column for the role-playing dimension?
Hope my question is clear for your advices and I am looking forward to hearing from you shortly.
We are trying to do some utilization calculations that need to factor in a given number of holiday hours per month.
I have a date dimension table (dimdate). Has a row for every day of every year (2006-2015)
I have a work entry fact table (timedetail). Has a row for every work entry. Each row has a worked date, and this column has a relationship to dimdate.
Our holidays fluctuate, and we offer floating holidays that our staff get to pick. So we cannot hard code which individual dates in dimdate as holidays. So what we have done is added a column to our dimdate table called HolidayHoursPerMonth.Â
This column will list the number of holiday hours available in the given month that the individual date happens to fall within, thus there are a lot of duplicates. Below is a brief example of dimdate. In the example below, there are 0 holiday hours for the month of June, and their are 8 holiday hours for the month of July.
I have a pivot table create based of the fact table. I then have various date slicers from the dimension table (i.e. year, month). If I simply drag this column into the pivot table and summarize by MAX it works when you are sliced on a single month, but breaks if anything but a single month is sliced on. Â
I am trying to create a measure that calculates the amount of holiday hours based on the what's sliced, but only using a single value for each month. For example July should just be 8, not 8 x #of days in the month.Â
Listed below is how many hours per month. So if you were to slice on an entire year, the measure should equal 64. If you sliced on Jan, Feb and March, the measure should equal 12. If you were to slice nothing, thus including all 15 years in our dimdate table, the measure should equal 640 (10 years x 64 hours per year).
When i add a dimension to the cube dimension without any relation in my dimension usage to any measure group my units are going down. However when i remove the dimension from the cube am getting the correct values.
In my cube there are two measures which are used in different calculations. Now I'm need to show in report if there any months in data when both or even another one of the measures is not updated (value = 0 or NULL).
how should I create the calculated measure for that?
I have tried in mgmt studio to plan this but I'm in a loop of errors.
I am wondering how to create a matrix that contains 1 dimension for Top Label (Column), let's say "Year-Month" and then 2 Measure to be in the row format rather than columnar format. Example as below : Year-Month on the column, and the measure is on the row :
2007-04 2007-05 2007-06
Amount Sales 1000 2000 3000
Unit Sales 10 20 30
Total 1010 2020 3030
Please share with me if you have this solution in Reporting services as it works in excel, hyperion brio, bo, cognos but somehow cannot see that function in Reporting Services.
In SSAS, I want to add a calculated measure and set that measure as the Parent of existing measure. For example I have the measures as A and B from the fact table. Now i want to add a calculated measure as C and set this measure as Parent for measures A and B. How to do that in SSAS.
I have created calcalated measures in a SQL Server 2012 SSAS multi dimensional model by creating empty measures in the cube and use scope statements to fill the calculation.
(so I can use measure security on calculations
as explained here  )
SCOPE [Measures].[C];
THIS = IIF([B]=0,0,[Measures].[A]/[Measures].[B]);
Need some help building a query that does the following :
I have 2 Time Dimensions ; Time (Transdate) and ClosedDate (ClosedDate)
In my report/query, if [Time].CurrentMember = [Time].[YMD].[YMD].[2006].[200610].[20061031] I want to FILTER out all ClosedDate < [ClosedDate].[YMD].[YMD].[2006].[200610].[20061031]
Both Time Dimensions are Year -> Month -> Day and have the same Members.
I have every option available, using calculated Members and/or Measures to do this.
The report I'm creating is Aging of Receivables : Balance / 30 days / 60 days / etc.. But for the Aging, I need to filter like explained above.
I have a dimension called "Movement rate". The members are "1" to "6". There is a measure called "No. of Products".
What i easily like to do is showing the percentages "No. of Product" for each "Movement rate" of the amount of "No. of Products" without using the frontend-tool.
There is count measure in the cube. I need to create a dimension that should list the range of values based on that count values: Exp:
0-99 100-199 200-399 ... .... .. and so on. User wants to pick the any range level in the dimension and cube should show corresponding cell values of count measure which would fall into range of the dimension level value. For example: if user picks up level 100-199 then cube would filter cell values of measure that has a value between 100 and 199 within 12 month range. So, it would be year to date value of the measure. My problem is how go about creating Dimension that based on measure in the cube and dimension should have level with range of measure values. Any hint would be appreciated greatly. Thank You.
for a calculated measure I need the total sum of a measure in different dimension. So for example I want to get in my first dimesion 1500 as my sum and in my second dimension too. Is there a way to get it? (FirstDimension.CurrentMember.Parent, [Measures].myMeasure) doesn´t work!
Hi, I am newbie in Analysis services. My problem is that I have to show a yearly report for credit expiry. In my fact table the measure is credit rate. I have attributes of start_day_key and end_day_key. Now when I go through analysis services it does not let me create a measure so that I can count end_day_key for a year (end_day_key is linked to day table with daykey. It has date) and show. The thing is the measure I want is not stored (i.e: the count of end days for a year ). How do I go about it?
Should I create a calculated cell? (I tried that, but mdx does not work) I used : Count({[Measures].[End Key]})< 366 Now this is not wha I want, I want the end_key count by matching date in day dimension for the current year? Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have a dataset that needs to return "Fatalities Involving drivers age 15-17". For years 2003 , 2004, 2005.
So i set up 3 different filters: Year : 2003,2004,2005
Person type: Driver
Age : 15,16,17
Now this is fine for getting a crash count and fatalities (for teen drivers). But i want the fatalities for everyone ( All Person Types) and (All Ages) ...how do i go about this. All i get right now, is the fatalities for Drivers 15-17.
I need to create one or two tables in the database. There are a few ways I can design these tables, so I€™d like to measure data loading performance. My primary concern is level of IO generated by SELECT. I don€™t expect CPU utilization to have any meaningful impact, but it would be nice to know how to measure processor utilization as well. PerformanceMonitor application is not really an option, because it measures IO and CPU at SQL Server process level. My development box is not going to match production boxes, so I would like to measure IO in terms of amount of data loaded from disks instead of timing stored procedure execution. The same is true for stored procedure CPU utilization. It is my understanding that SQL Server keeps table content loaded in memory as much as possible to improve performance. How do I negate effect of caching on my IO numbers?
I have created a table in the sql server 7.0 and I wanted to know the what is the size of the table, is there any storeprocedure or command that can be used to measure the space used by the table in the database
I need to build a cube for membership over time. Active membership is the gap from the record's CreationDate to SuspendedDate, as compared to a reference date (today's active members have CreationDates before today, and SuspendedDates > today, or NULL).
Any idea how to build a cube so I can count membership over a Time dimension? The only approach I've been able to come up with is to create a table with a record for each active member on each date (brute force).
I have a Sales cube and I want to be able to display Products and the Price at which they were purchased in a given period. I have a Product dimension while Price is a measure in my Sales Fact Table. Is there a way to have a "Group By" aggregation instead of a Sum? This way, I can show Products grouped by their list price.
My Product Dimension consists of product_numbers (such as 100, 101, 102 etc...) My Sales Fact Table consists of sales data (such as product_key, price, net_sales, returns, etc...) at the transaction level.
where Net_sales and Returns are "summed" and Price is simply a "Group By". In other words, this report would show the net sales and returns by product for a given price.
I'd rather not use a Price dimension since we have hundreds of products at hundreds of different prices. Moreover, this data is already in the Sales Fact table.
Hello, could you please advice on how to measure replication performancein Oracle, DB2 & MS SQL Server RDBMS installed in Windows servers ?I've got two servers with databases installed and configured,I prepared set of data using DBGEN from TPC and I already imported theminto databases. Also, I configured the replication. Now I have to do a test with a few kind of replications methodimplemented in these RDMBS, but I don't know which tool or reports or"v$iews" should I use to measure replication performance. The replication is configured only between the same RDBMS, I meanOracle <-Oracle, DB2 <-DB2 and MSSQL<-MSSQL.Most of applications are great for checking performance of local DB,not for replicated/distributed.I've found description of CA Unicenter Database Performance Managementfor distributed RDMBS, and I think it could be the right one, but Ican't find any demo or trial version :(Could you please advice any place to download it, or other application, script, description, just whatever.Perhaps just any other idea how to check the replication mechanismefficiency ?Regards,Mark
Hi, i created a cube that has 2 measures. I created the measures by selecting the columns from my fact table, but the function that applied in the measures was the sum function. I need to apply the count function in my measure. How can i do that?
