Call A Second Package Inside ActiveX Script

Apr 8, 2003

Hi,

I have several .xls files in a folder. I want to process all .xls file one by one. The following script will give the file name using a loop. How I can call another package by passing the name of file to it.

Dim objFSO, objFolder, colFiles, objFile

Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set objFolder = objFSO.GetFolder(DTSGlobalVariables("gvFolder").value)
Set colFiles = objFolder.Files

If colFiles.Count > 0 then
For Each objFile in colFiles
If Ucase(Right(objFile,4)) = ".XLS" then
' How to call a another Package by Passing the objFile to it
End if
Next
End if

Thanks

How Can I Use A Stored Procedure Call Inside The WHERE?

Mar 31, 2008

Hi folks
I nead to call a stored procedure in a where statemene, but MSSQL dont like that.

My problem is that the StoredProcedure is calling itself recursive and therfore its impossible to add the code as a standard SELECT statement. Here is the code

ALTER PROCEDURE dbo.advsp_FilterRecordRights
@RequesterGUID Char(20),
@EntityGUID Char(20)
AS
BEGIN
if not Exists(Select *

from GUIDRightsH
where GUIDRightsH.EntityGUID = @EntityGUID and

GUIDRightsH.RequesterGUID = @RequesterGUID and
GUIDRightsH.RecProp <> 0)
Begin

Return 1
end

if not Exists(Select *

from UsergroupMembers
where UserGroupMembers.UsergroupGUID = @RequesterGUID and
dbo.advsp_FilterRecordRights(UserGroupMembers.UserGUID,@EntityGUID) = 1)
Begin

Return 1
end

Return 0

END

Pre-Execute AcquireConnection Method Call Fails Inside Sequence Container (transaction Required)

Jun 1, 2006

I've created an SSIS package that contains a Sequence Container with TransactionOption = Required. Within the container, there are a number of Execute Package Task components running in a serial fashion which are responsible for performing "Upserts" to dimension and fact tables on our production server. The destination db configuration is loaded into each of these packages using an XML configuration file. The structure of these "Upsert" packages are nearly identical, while some execute correctly and others fail. Those that fail all provide the same error messages.

These messages appear during Pre-Execute

[Insert new dimension record [1627]] Error: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "DW" failed with error code 0xC0202009.

[DTS.Pipeline] Error: component "Insert new dimension record" (1627) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC020801C.

... which are followed by

[Connection manager "DW"] Error: The SSIS Runtime has failed to enlist the OLE DB connection in a distributed transaction with error 0x8004D00A "Unable to enlist in the transaction.".

[Connection manager "DW"] Error: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x8004D00A.

While still in debug mode, I can check the properties of the "DW" connection and successfully test the connection within the packages that fail.

The same packages run successfully when tested outside the container (i.e. no transaction) or when the configuration file is modified to point the "DW" connection to a development version of the db which is running on the same server as the source database.

I have successfully used DTCtester to verify that transactions from source to destination server are working correctly. Also tried setting DelayValidation = True with no change. I have opened a case with Microsoft and am awaiting a reply so I thought I'd throw a post out here to see if anyone else has encountered this and might have a resolution. Here's some more on the environment:

Source Server:

Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP1
SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition SP0

Destination Server:

Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP1
SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition SP3 (clustered)

Thank you in advance for any feedback you might be able to provide.

Help Using VBScript In An ActiveX Task In DTS Package

Jan 16, 2004

Hi,

Thanks for reading.

I am creating a DTS package to import a .txt file into sql. I have everything in place, but the text file needs to have the last record deleted before the import. I need help with this part

I would like to delete the last record from a fixed width text file before I import it into sql. The number of rows will vary from file to file.

Can any one offer suggestions on the best way to do this.

I understand that I have to use the FSO to open and read the file, but I am not sure the best way to proceed after that.

Thanks in advance,
Steve

Get Server Name In ActiveX Where DTS Package Lives

Nov 2, 2000

I'm looking for a way to get the name of the server on which the DTS package lives.

I copy packages between servers. The problem is that everytime a package is copied
to different server, I have to change the reference in the connection strings to point
to the new server name. I'd like to find an automatic way to interrogate the server
name where the package currently lives and dynamically change connection strings
from within an ActiveX task. That would cut maintenance way down.

Can You Reference A Package Using ActiveX Script Task?

Aug 23, 2007

Using ActiveX Script Task it is possible create office automation objects such as Word and Excel typically using the CreateObject() Syntax. Can you use this syntax to create a Package object using CreateObject("DTS.Package")? If not Why not? I am not sure whether it was possible in DTS.

I am aware of the fact that ActuveX Script Task is included in this Version of SSIS and will be deprecated.

Parent Package Call To Child Package

Apr 30, 2007

I run into some issues and really need some expert help here.

Here is the problem. I have two packages (parent.dtsx and child.dtsx). Both package have its own configuration file (parent.dtsConfig and child.dtsConfig). The file Child.dtsConfig contains a variable (i.e. "X") that is to be used by Child.dtsx.

Inside parent.dtsx. there is a package-task that calls into Child.dtsx. It worked perfectly well if I run parent.dtsx using Dtexec or from inside SSIS's IDE.

Now I want to programmably call "parent.dtsx" from my C# code. I loaded package using "app.LoadPackage"... Inside C# code, I want to reconfigure Child-package's variable ("X"). I then loaded in "Child.dtsx". However when I run "parent.dtsx" and child.dtsx still loads the original value for "X". The reconfigured value for "X" is not updated.

Please help on how to get around this issue.

Thanks.

MSSQL - DTS Package - Find Distinct Rows - Output To TXT File - ActiveX?

Jun 11, 2007

Hello All,I am trying to create a DTS package.I have two tables tbl_A and tbl_B with similar data/rows but noprimary keys.tbl_A is master.I would like this package to query tbl_A and tbl_B and find1)all rows in tbl_A that are different in tbl_B, 2)all rows in tbl_Athat are not present in tbl_B and3)all rows in tbl_B that are not present in tbl_A, and then just showthose rows. Can this be done with a simple UNION?Perhaps this could produce a temp Table that can be dropped once theDTS package exists successfully. The 2nd part after all the above rows are retrieved is that I wouldlike to add an addional Column to the retrieved data called STATUSwhich has 3 possible values(letters) at the end of each row...M (modified) means that row exists in tbl_B but has 1 or moredifferent columnsA (add) means this row exists in tbl_A but not in tbl_BD (delete) means this row exists in tbl_B but not in tbl_AI'm hopping this DTS package would output a nice comma seperated TXTfile with only...1) rows from tbl_A that are different in tbl_B (STATUS M)2) rows from tbl_A that are not present in tbl_B (STATUS A)3) rows from tbl_B that are not present in tbl_A (STATUS D)Can a DTS package in MS SQL be used to perfom all of the above tasks?I would very much appreciate any help or any advise. Thanks in advance :-)

Debugging And ActiveX Script Task In A DTS Package Running On SQL Server 2005

Sep 13, 2006

I have a DTS package that I brought over from SQL server 2000 in to SQL Server 2005. I have installed all of the legacy components to run the DTS packages but I need to debug an ActiveX script task. In SQL Server 2000 I could turn on Just-In-Time debugging and use the stop operator (in my vbscript) to break the running script and launch the debugger.

I don't see how to do this in SQL Server 2005 Management Studio. Is it possible to debug a script object in a DTS package running in SQL Server 2005?

ActiveX Script In A SSIS Package - Calling An FSO To Create/manipulate Files

Jul 3, 2007

I have a SQL2000 DTS package that executes vbscript to loop through a recordset which:

- runs a stored procedure and populated tables

- builds a recordset from the populated tables to write records to an Excel file

- writes status to text files with either the error or success notices

I use FSO to set up the success and error files, but the scheduled job in SQL2005 which calls the SSIS package returns the following error:

"Retrieving the file name for a component failed with error code 0x0015F74C"

I can successullly run this (vbscript) in both the SSIS package via the BI Development Studio and in MS Access (exactly the same code in both) - but not as a SSIS package called in a scheduled job in SQL2005.

I am at an impasse with this ... any and ALL assistance would be GREATLY appreciated.

TIA,

Bob

Execute A Package Inside A Script

Aug 2, 2006

I was wondering if it is possible to execute a package inside a script.  I know there are other ways to do this like using the "Execute Package Task" or using DTExec inside a .bat file but those options won't fulfill what I am trying to do.  It looks as though this function should be able to do this

Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Package.Execute()

but I can't seem to get this to work.  Has anyone used this before??

I have other work-arounds if this is impossible but thought I would ask.

HELP!! HOW TO CALL A DTS PACKAGE FROM A STORED PROC

Jul 20, 2005

I'm a rookie with MSSQL. I need to run a DTS package to export a result setto an MX Excel spread sheet. I need to call the DTS from a stored procedureand pass it three values, depending on the input parameters to the storedproc.DTS package is no problem. Pretty easy with the DTS wizard. My problem isthat I can't figure out how to instansiate the DTS package object from astored proc and pass the three values as parameters to the DTS package sothey can populate the parameters I created in it.I found an article related to it, but I'm too much of a rookie to grasp it.It showed how to do this from a stored procedure:EXEC @hr = sp_OASetProperty @oPKG, 'GlobalVariables("MyGVName").Value,'MyGVValue'IF @hr <> 0BEGINPRINT '*** GlobalVariable Assignment Failed'EXEC sp_displayoaerrorinfo @oPKG, @hrENDI have three values and tree global variables to populate. Do I need to dothe above 3 times? How do I instantiate the package object? I've read up some on sp_OACreate,but I don't get it, yet.How do I initiate the variable @oPKG?It contains the name of the sp_OACreate string, right? How do I address aDTS package in the sp_OACreate string?I would really appreciate just writing out the sp_OACreate string and how Ipass values for three existing global variables to a DTS package named"DTS_1".I'm under some real pressure to get this done. Thanks for any help I can get.Gunny

How To Call A SSIS Package With A Specific Parameter

Apr 2, 2008

I need to be able to call a SSIS package with a specific parameter for one of the variables. Basically the package needs to be triggered from an application (.NET, C#) with a specific value.

The package is stored in the SQL Server (in Stored packages).

I have seen the article on dtexec and the SET flag, however we do not want to turn on xp_cmdshell on the SQL server due to the security implications, and that seems to be the only way to call dtexec

I have seen another article that says you can have a job invoke a package then have a specific user granted permission to the job, but that doesn't address how to set the parameter/variable for the package.

There are actually some other steps that technically need to run using the same parameter, so ideally if I could have a stored procedure call the SSIS package, then the subsequent toher stored procedures using the sent in parameter that would be great. I just can't figure out how to do this securely (as xp_cmdshell is not considered secure).

Thanks for any comments.

Is It Possible To Create A Class Library That I Can Import Inside Script Components In My Package?

Dec 27, 2007

Good day everyone,

I have a package that loads data from a flat file, performs some transformations and then inserts the final data into a DB destination. The keys for the different DB records are generated in Script components in the Data Flow Tasks.

My question is concerning the Key Generation and I'll try to explain it on a simple example.

Package Structure:

The Control Flow contains two Data Flow tasks.
Each of the Data Flow Tasks contains a Script Component responsible for generating the keys of the records to be loaded during this data flow.

The code of the Script component is the following:

Code Block
Imports System
Imports System.Data
Imports System.Math
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.Wrapper
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper

Public Class KeyGenerator

' Field Definitions '
Private seed1 As Integer
Private seed2 As Integer

' Constructor '
Public Sub New(ByVal dbSeed1 As Integer, ByVal dbSeed2 As Integer)
.....
End Sub

' Generates the keys according to the seeds retrieved from the DB '
Public Function getNextKey() As Int64
...
...
Return generatedKey
End Function

End Class

Public Class ScriptMain
Inherits UserComponent

Private generator As New KeyGenerator(7, 5)

Public Overrides Sub Input0_ProcessInputRow(ByVal Row As Input0Buffer)

....
Row.NewKey = generator.getNextKey()

End Sub
End Class

Questions:
As you can see the KeyGenerator class code gets duplicated in each Script Component, which is definitely a bad practise. What I wish to do is to create the KeyGenerator class and deploy it as a library "somewhere". Then, in each Script Component, I should only import the KeyGenerator class.

1. Is that possible?

2. If yes, how can I do this?

3. If not, what is a best practise you would recommend which allows me to avoid this code duplication of the KeyGenerator class?

Thanks in adavance,
Samar

ASP.NET 2.0 Call Of MS SQL DTS Package Fails With Unknown User Name/Password

Feb 20, 2007

I am writing an ASP.NET intranet application on a Windows XP machine running IIS 5.1 which executes a MS SQL Server 2000 DTS package as part of the process. The application allows the user to select a UNC path of an input source (.txt) file to be procesed by the DTS pacakge and the UNC file path property is then set in the source object name of the DTS package tasks before executing the DTS package. Whenever I run the application using a file path that is on my development machine (the same machine that the web server is on) it works fine. I have wracked my brain trying to determine where the ASPNET security context is coming from to no avail.  Can someone shed some light on what security credentials the DTS package is using to access the source files and how to change them?
