CRL SP Calling Another SP And Getting Out Parameters

Is calling another SP and getting out parameters supposed to work inside CRL SP via ADO.NET?
If I setup my command the standard way - a copy of the Quicksample code:

Problems Calling A Stored Procedures Depending On Parameters
Dec 10, 2007Hi guys, hoping one of you may be able to help me out. I am using VS 2005, and VB.net for a Windows application.
I have a table in SQL that has a list of Storedprocedures: Sprocs Table: SPID - PK (int), ID (int), NAME (string), TYPE (string)The ID is a Foreign key (corresponding to a Company ID), the name is the stored procedure name, and Type (is the type of SP).
On my application I need to a certain SP depending on the company selected and what page you are on. I have a seperate SP that passes in parameters for both Company, and Type and should output the Name value:

Esql/C Calling Stored Procedure With Output Parameters
Dec 6, 2004I'm trying to write an esqlc program that will run a stored procedure that returns several output parameters. I haven't been able to find any documentation to date that explains how to run the "EXEC SQL EXECUTE procname" command and specify the output parameters.
My stored procedure "aek_proc1" takes one input parameter (p1 - an 8-character string) and 3 output parameters (p2 - an integer; p3 - an 8-character string, and p4 a 40-character string).
My esqlc program contains the following code….

I've spend hours browsing this newsgroup and found lots of examples of how to do this in VB and from Query Analyser but I can't find any examples for ESQL/C that work.

Data Driven Sub Calling Proc With Multiple Parameters
Aug 31, 2007I have a couple of questions that I hope someone might be able to provide some direction on.
1. Why can't you call a proc when the proc uses temp tables? I wrote a simple proc (select * from table) and the data subscription works perfect. I then take that same query and put it into a temp table and the data set can't be validated by the subscription, Why?
2. Why can't you pass a simple execute statement in a data subscription? (execute dbo.RptTakeTheLeadFLSDinnerCompetition @FiscalQuarter ='2007-Q3', @StoreRegionID = '9231', @StoreType = 'Full-Line Store') works perfect in SQL but once you try and validate in the data subscription is fails.
3. Another question, why if I dumb down the proc and the number of parameters does it work? Are there limitations on the number of parameters you can pass into a proc from a data driven subscription?
Basically, I want to declare a few variables dynamically and pass them into a execute statement that calls the proc. Which in turn runs the report.
Any ideas on where I seem to be going wrong?

Nov 29, 2007This seems to be much more difficult than it was in DTS (or perhaps I just need to adjust to the new way of doing things).
Eventually I found that I needed to use "SQL command from variable" and using two other variables as input parameters. The expresion for the command is
"usp_ValveStatusForDay '" + @[User:ate] + "','" + @[User::Report] + "'"
which typically evaluates as
usp_ValveStatusForDay '18 Oct 07','Report_Name'
This previews correctly and the resulting columns are available for mapping to a destination. So far so good.
By the way, is this the best way to call a stored procedure with parameters?
I have pasted the stored procedure at the end of this posting because I have come accross a puzzling problem. The query as shown below works correctlly but if I un-comment the delete statement, the preview still works and the columns are still avilable for mapping but I get the following errors when the package is executed.
Error: 0xC02092B4 at Data Flow Task, OLE DB Source [1]: A rowset based on the SQL command was not returned by the OLE DB provider.
Error: 0xC004701A at Data Flow Task, DTS.Pipeline: component "OLE DB Source" (1) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC02092B4.
I realise that I could execute the delete query in a separate SSIS package step but I am curious as to why there is a problem with the way I tried to do it.
At one stage the stored procedure used a temp table and later I also experimented with a table variable. In both cases I got similar errors at execution time. In the case of the temp table there was another problem in that, while the preview worked, there were no columns available for mapping. Using a table variable seemed to overcome this problem but I still got the run time error. eventually I found a way to avoid using either a temp table or a table variable and the package then worked correctly, copying the data into the desitnation table.
It seems to me that if there is any complexity at all to the stored procedure, these errors seem to occur. Can anyone enlighten me as to what the "rules of engagement" are in this regard? Is one solution to use a wrapper stored procedure that simply calls the more complex one?

I'm calling this code in a Report Parameter like below:

It is working fine for the first record where as for other records, the value is not getting changed. i.e. the first records value is coming repeatedly for all other records also.
How can I dynamically change the parameter values of the function?
Parameter is not accepting directly the field names, hence I used other parameter to initialize the field and used that parameter for this.
Ex. Parameter Name ; FieldPurchDate (internal) FieldName : PURCHDATE
Other parameter: FieldInDate (internal) FieldName : InDate
While initializing the new parameter CalcPurchDate,, I used an expression for this: Parameters!CalcFiscalAge.Value
=iif(Parameters!FieldPurchDate.Value is nothing, Parameters!FieldInDate.Value,Parameters!FieldPurchDate.Value)
and using this CalcPurchDate for processing of the parameter:

Run Report By Different Parameters Without Having To Enter Information For All Parameters At Same Time
Oct 29, 2013I have a SSRS report with four parameters,and I want to be able to enter information for two of the parameters and run the report opposed to all four of them. However, when I select allow blanks and only select the parameters that I want to run the report by, the report come back blank..Essentially, I want to be able to the run report by different parameters without having to enter information for all parameters at the same time.

I have an app in C# that executes a query using SQLCommand and parameters and is taking too much time to execute.
I open a SQLProfiler and this is what I have :

I ran the same query directly from Query Analyzer and take the same amount of time to execute (about 8 seconds)
I decided to take the parameters out and concatenate the value and it takes less than 2 second to execute.
Here it comes the first question...
Why does using parameters takes way too much time more than not using parameters?
Then, I decided to move the query to a Stored Procedure and it executes in a snap too.
The only problem I have using a SP is that the query can receive more than 1 parameter and up to 5 parameters, which is easy to build in the application but not in the SP
I usually do it something like
(@CustomerId is null or CustomerId = @CustomerId) but it generate a table scan and with a table with a few mills of records is not a good idea to have such scan.
Is there a way to handle "dynamic parameters" in a efficient way???
Parameters Dependencies When Using Parameters!Name.Label

I just recently bumped into this problem and I think I know what's causing it. This is the setup:
Report Parameters: FromDate, ToDate, DivisionalOffice, Manager, SalesRep
dsCalendarEvents Parameters: FromDate.Value, ToDate.Value, DivisionalOffice.Value,
dsDivisions Parameters: N/A
dsManager Parameters: DivisionalOffice.Value
dsSalesRep: DivisionalOffice.Label
When I query the ReportServices WS and scan the parameter dependencies for SalesRep it says there are four dependencies: FromDate, ToDate, DivisionalOffice and Manager!!!
If I change "dsSalesRep" to use "DivisionalOffice.Value" the ReportingServices WS parameter dependency scan returns only one dependency for "SalesRep" parameter!!!( This is the correct behavior )
Has anybody seen this behavior and more importantly, is there a work around?

Is there a reason NOT to use myCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("@CategoryID",CategoryID); I'd prefer to use that over myCommand.Parameters.Add("@CategoryID", SqlDbType.Int, 4).Value = CategoryID; as I have these functions being created dynamically and hope to get away from a big lookup to try to convert System.Types into SqlDbTypes. [shudder]
It seems that ADO.NET makes an implicit conversion to the valid type. If this is correct then I can move on fat dumb and happy. Anyone have any good insight?

Calling DTS From C#
Oct 25, 2006Hi all, i have a DTS package that i call from a C# app, i had it working great until i decided to use an activeX script to do the data transformations instead of the row copy. I need to use ActiveX to add a standard name to the last column in the destination table. the problem is the task is executing without errors (from c#) but nothing is happening, its failing silently. If i modify the Data Transformation back to a standard column mapping (with separate DTSTransformations for each column) it works fine, but as soon as i use activeX to handle the transformations it doesn't work. Jan 20, 2004I'm developing a new Stored Proc that will be taking information in to enter customer and order info. Looking at the current Stored Proc its using alot of If statements and I'm thinking of breaking the sp up into different Stored Procs and calling them all from One main stored proc. I know how to do this but I was wondering how it would effect performance. So should I simply keep all the stuff in one proc or module it out into multiple ones to make it easier to follow and read?

Mar 26, 2008I'm working in SQL Server 2005. I have an existing SP that does exactly what I need (it's the aspnet_UsersInRoles_IsUserInRole SP). I want to reuse this SP and use it's return value as a field in the SP I'm writing. How do I go about doing this? I could take the logic out of the called SP and wrap it in a function; but, I would really like to reuse the SP aspnet_UsersInRoles_IsUserInRole. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Calling Asynchronously
Mar 7, 2008In my shared hosting environment where I am making large volumes of database calls, I am very anxious to preserve my heavily throttled threads-I presume when I make a database call, that it is going to a separate server and any threads that server may be using are in addition to my " hosting plan ".
My question (s) is, is it therefore a no-brainer to always make calls to:Dim oResult As IAsyncResult = iDBCmd.BeginExecuteReader()arWaitHandles(0) = oResult.AsyncWaitHandleiIndex = WaitHandle.WaitAny(arWaitHandles, 60000, False)
i.e. run all calls to the database asynchronously?
Is it really releasing a thread back to my asp.net App while it is waiting? (I.e. Is it worth doing)
Help Calling DTS Package.
Aug 18, 2004I'm new to using DTS packages and I'm running into a problem. Hopefully someone can help me out. I have an ASP.NET page that needs to call a DTS package. Everything seems to be working right up until I call opkg.Execute. The package seems to run but nothing happens. After further investigation I have found what looks like a permissions issue. this is the message I'm getting"
Error Number:
-2147467259 {Integer}
Error Description:
"The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file ''. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data." {String}
This is obviously a permissions issue. I'm just not sure who the DTS package is running as and where to set the permissions.
Any ideas????
