Calling SSIS Packages From ASP.NET - Packages With File System Tasks End Abruptly

Jan 9, 2007

I've run into a problem with SSIS packages wherein tasks that write or copy files, or create or delete directories, quit execution without any hint of an error nor a failure message, when called from an ASP.NET 2.0 application running on any other machine than the one where the package was created from. By all indications it appeared to be an identity/permissions problem.

Our application involves a separate web server and database server. Both have SQL Server 2005 installed, but the application server originally only had Integration services. The packages are file system-deployed on the application server, and are called using Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime methods. For all packages that involve file system tasks, the above problem occurs.

When the above packages are run using the command prompt (either DTEXEC or DTEXECUI) the packages execute just fine. This is expected since we are using an administrative account. However when a ShellExecute of the same command is called from ASP.NET, the same problem occurs.

I've tried giving administrative permissions to the ASPNET worker process user to no avail.

I have likewise attempted to use the SQL Server Agent job approach but that approach might not be acceptable for our clients since it means installing SQL Server 2005 Database services on the application server.

I have read the relevant threads in this forum, namely http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1044739&SiteID=1 and http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=927084&SiteID=1 but failed to find any solution appropriate for our set up.

Anybody got any idea on how to go about this?

Integration Services :: Remotely Execute Packages On SSIS Server - Packages Are Deployed In File System

Apr 22, 2015

We manage some SSIS servers, which has only SSIS and SSIS tools installed on them and not the sql server DB.

SSIS packages and configuration files are deployed on a NAS. We run the SSIS packages through DTEXEC by logging in to the server.

We want to allow developers to run their packages on their own on the server, but at the same time we dont want to give them physical access on the server i.e we do not want to add them into RDP users list on server properties. We want them to allow running their packages remotely on the server.

One way We could think of is by using powershell remoting and we are working on that. But is there any other way or any tool already present for the same.

Calling SSIS Packages From Within A Script Task

Mar 3, 2006

Hello,

I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of any sample code or documentation that allows you to execute SSIS packages from within a Script task?

In SQL Server 2000 DTS this was accomplished by instantiating the DTS.Package object and calling either the LoadFromSQLServer or LoadFromStorageFile method.

I have not been able to find any similiar logic in the SQL Server 2005 SSIS environment.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Gordon Radley

Upgrading System To Run DTSX Packages Instead Of DTS Packages

Aug 2, 2006

Hi all

Our data management system currently runs DTS packages using DTSPKG.dll.

I am currently looking at the possibliity of replacing the DTS packages and SQL 2000 with DTSX packages using SSIS in SQL 2005.

Do I need a new dll? or will the current dtspkg.dll handle the new DTSX packages?

Many thanks in advance!

Calling SSIS Packages From A Service Broker Queue

Feb 26, 2007

I would like to call an SSIS package from a Service Broker Queue.

There is one way that I am aware of -

Using xp_cmdshell from within an activation stored procedure and using DTEXEC.

Is there a more elegant way of executing an SSIS package from within SSB?

Also, I am not interested in writing a .NET external activator to process my messages in the queue. I would like this operation to be strictly database oriented. Having said this, I am also trying to avoid triggers processing the messages in the queue.

Thank you!

SQL 2012 :: Dynamically Calling Child SSIS Packages Within A Project

Mar 9, 2015

I've not really used SSIS for a while, and I'm now building some in 2012 and trying to utilise some of the features in the 2012 SSIS catalogue; however I've hit a bit of a stumbling block.

What I'm trying to do is have a master/child package relationship, with several child packages and where the child packages themselves are dynamically called (i.e. the master package may call a different child package based upon some value or state of data already processed.)

When I try and create an expression for the PackageNameFromProject property... well, that property doesn't appear to set dynamically. I know how to do this for old style packages by creating expressions for the package name etc; but that way I can't use the package parameters I have from my master package.

Access Denied Error When Calling Several SSIS Packages In A Chain

Jun 22, 2007

Hi.

I have problem executing several SSIS-packages in a chain.

To be more precise:
I have implemented a Biztalk 2006 application which via a local webservice executes an SSIS package. The package it self calls another SSIS package, which is located in the same folder as the calling package. The second package then calls a third package etc.

The problem arises, when the first package calls the second package. An Access Denied exception is received. Can any one explain me how to fix this?

The user connected to the application-pool that the weservice is running under, has execution-rights on all of the packages.

Thanks

Storage Of Packages: File System Or Sql Server?

Apr 5, 2006

HI, we are beginning a new project at my company and I was wondering where is the best place to save SSIS packages: file system or SqlServer. I have used other ETL products and they always create a repository on an RDBMS. Since SSIS offers us the choice of DB storage or file system, is there pros and cons of both approach? Will the deployment of our application be simpler by using Sql Server since we would onky move metadata instead of files?

Thank you for your help,

SQL Jobs Calling SSIS Packages Within MSDB Not Referencing Connection Info In Config Files

Nov 13, 2007

I have deployed to production a number of nested packages (parent packages that call child packages) to the SQL msdb via the Save As option rather than building a deployment utility. These packages reference configuration files in a static location off of the c: drive on the production server. In the development environment, when connection changes are made and I run the Reload with Upgrade option the connection manager takes on the new server and user id settings. However, out on the production side I get the following error from the SQL job log:

Cannot load the XML configuration file. The XML configuration file may be malformed or not valid.

As a result the SQL job uses the default connection information which references the development database rather than the production database. I did research the error but found no good solutions. Is there a way to ensure the configuration files are formed correctly and that the packages are correctly referencing the configuration files? We are trying to run the ETL updates via a SQL job.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Problem In Transporting SSIS Packages From The Local System To Development

Jan 2, 2008

Posts 7

Dear all
I have developed some packages (around 40) on my local system.
now i m trying to move the integration services project on the production server.
when i double click on the intergration services from the local drive of the server all the packages are up(works fine till here)
now i open any of the package-->this is what happens
Prompt1)-->TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio
------------------------------
There were errors while the package was being loaded.
The package might be corrupted.
See the Error List for details.
------------------------------
BUTTONS:
OK
------------------------------

i press ok and then the prompt comes
Prompt2-->There were build errors.Do you want to continue with the last build and continue..yes..no..
i click yes ..and then error comes

prompt3-->
Error loading RTS-IMRB-DISTRIBUTION.dtsx: The connection "Excel Connection Manager" is not found. This error is thrown by Connections collection when the specific connection element is not found.

and finally the prompt for the OLE DB error
prompt 4-->[OLE DB Destination [14]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER. The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "NDELNTX46.IMRB RTS.siddharth" failed with error code 0xC0202009. There may be error messages posted before this with more information on why the AcquireConnection method call failed.

Possible work around suggested to me was that in the base system(read local) before exporting go to package properties and the security and set the security as "Encrypt all with password" and also put some Password which i did and it worked for one.
other thing i thought off was creating the configuration file but first i thought of fully running one complete package on the production and then think of the configuration file.
so i went inside the invidual excel connection and pointed it to the correct new file location and also edited the OLE DB database connection and put my user name and password and checked save password and trying to run the entire thing.
but still the same problem..
one more thing i observed was that my OLE DB was going off everytime i am running the package.and i have to enter my password again...so othe save password i guess is not working

I know its a little long post..but i wanted to explain the entire process and problem to all with description.
all suggestions are welcome

Thanks in advance
cheers & Happy new year

Automating File Deployment Of SSIS Packages

Jul 10, 2007

Hi:

I am trying to utilize DTUtil command to automate deployment of SSIS Package from the Build Server to Dev Server. I am getting an invalid option error, when I try to run the following command:

dtutil /FILE C:Program FilesABCABC ABC CADETL PackagesLoad_Staging_FromWCF.dtsx /MOVE FILE;\serverAC$Program FilesABCABC ABC CADETL PackagesLoad_Staging_FromWCF.dtsx /QUIET

Currently I have a .CMD file, in which I have the above command, and I am trying to run the CMD file and it returns an error. Can someone help me the DTUtil switches. My goal is to move a DTSX file from Server A(Build Server) to Server B(Dev Server). Also is there a switch to specify the server name, if UNC path is not supported. Also I am using File System Deployment, and running the file as an Administrator. I have admin privs on both Build and Dev Server. Thanks and I appreciate some help on this.

To List Ssis Packages Stored In File Folder

Nov 13, 2007

Hi,
newbie to sql2005. I am trying to write a VB.NET program to list all ssis packages we have stored in a file folder (not in MSDB) where both SqlServer and ssis servers are located. These packages currently running on daily basis by automated jobs with no problem.

I have found the following link on the web that includes VB.Net program. If you scroll down under Example (SSIS Package Store) , you'll see a VB.NET program that I am trying to get it to work for me but keep getting error message like "Cannot find folder......"

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms403343.aspx

My goal is to:
1. List all ssis packages stored in the file systems (.dstx)
2. List DB source and distination providers(tables in/out) in a ssis package
3. List properties for DB providers
4. List FlatFile & Excel file provider properties in a ssis package.
My assumption, but not sure, is that I may need to register this file folder (where packages are located) to the SqlServer if that is not done already. Any command or sys table in Sql2005 to figure this out?

I would appreciate any help on this in advance.
Thank You.

Moving Text File Properties For Sql2k Dts To Sql25k Ssis Packages???

Jun 2, 2006

Hi everyone,

We€™ve got almost 250 old dts packages which simply loading data into Sql tables from plain files or at the reverse point. Most of them are defined with fixed fields and its fixed positions one after one. We don€™t want to migrate them using Import wizard, on the contrary we€™re producing them from the beggining taking advantatge of SSIS architecture to the full.
And now, we€™re trying to imagine how to migrate automatically that valuable info from Sql Server 2000 to Sql Server 2005 without efforts€¦ You know, any program be able to move that detailed info
to SSIS.

So we would avoid to select again all these positions per each file -very tedious and we're lazy

I don€™t see how except, of course, migrate them directly

Let me know if you need further explanations or more clarity on that.

Custom Tasks/Components - Changing Version W/o Breaking Packages

May 28, 2008

Whenever I make a breaking change to a custom SSIS component/tasks and update the Assembly Version, it seems to break my packages beyond repair, telling me it can't load the task:

Error loading Package1.dtsx: Error loading a task. The contact information for the task is "". This happens when loading a task fails.

All of the properties of said task now show:

Could not get value for property 'c-155-designer-name'. Specified cast is not valid.

Typically, a "breaking" change when it comes to code just means that you need to update your components to adhere to the new contract of the updated signatures. But with SSIS, it seems the only solution to this is to completely remove the component, and re-add the new version, and re-enter all of the property values/expressions. If I have a package containing 10 instances of a task that only had one property removed, for example, this results in a very time-consuming process of fixing my package.

So my questions:

1) Am I doing something wrong in my versioning/deployment that is causing my packages to unnecessarily break?

2) If this is just "by design" and the way it's meant to behave, what is the best practice for making breaking changes to custom tasks/components used by many packages? Should I just never change the assembly version, even when it is a breaking change (this seems to be less disastrous)?

3) As a last resort, if I'm stuck with having to fix the broken tasks, is there a better way to fix them rather than having to completely remove them, re-add them, and re-set all of their properties/expressions?

Thanks in advance.
Jerad

Calling Packages Within For Loop

Oct 31, 2007

I need to improve the performance of a transaction processing SSIS package we've developed.

The package reads messages from an MSMQ queue, which contains a transaction to be processed, and executes another package within a For Loop container. The loop continues until all messages ransactions have been processed from the queue.

I've noticed that the For Loop will not iterate and process the next message ransaction until the called package completes for the previous message ransaction. Is there any way to run this secondary package asynchronously so that the For Loop does not wait for it to complete execution? I've tried setting the ExecuteOutOfProcess property on this secondary package to True, but found the same behavior as when the property was False. In fact, it appeared to take longer to process (probably due to the overhead of creating another process).

What Data Mining Tasks Can Be Automated And Scheduled Via Integration Services Packages?

Jun 14, 2006

Hi, all here,

Would please any expert here give me any guidance about what Data Mining tasks can be automated and scheduled via Integration Services Packages? Also, If we automated the tasks, can we also automatically save the results of the tasks somewhere? Like if we automate assessing the accuracy of a mining model, then we wanna know the mining model accuracy later, therefore, we need to save all these results from the automated actions. Is it possible to realize this?

Thanks a lot in advance for any guidance and help for this.

With best regards,

Yours sincerely,

DTS Packages, Exporting Data, Calling From Stored Procedure

Aug 31, 2000

Hi,

I am looking to create a job on our SQL Server 7.0 dB to:
1. Manipulate and move data from table 'a' to table 'b' (via stored proc)
2. Export table 'b' to a comma delimeted, double quote text identifier file (via dts export wizard stored as a DTS )
3. Cleanup table 'b' and end the job.

I am creating a DTS package to execute step 1, then 2 and lastly 3.

How do I execute another DTS package (#2) from within this DTS package?
Also, is there a way I can make the file name for #2 a dynamically generated name (i.e. include date and time in the file name)?

Thank You

SSIS Packages

Aug 24, 2006

I am writing a vb application that is supposed to let the users set the connection string for the datasources in the package. After new connection strings are entered the application is supposed to run 8 packages in a certain order, but I haven't been able to set a new connection string successfully. Is there a way to programmatically modify the connection string of a package's datasource? (the packages are moving data from a D3 database to sql server 2005)

Here is what I have tried so far:

A.
Dim pkgLocation As String
Dim app As Application = New Application()
pkgLocation = "c:Package1.dtsx"
Dim pkg As Package = app.LoadPackage(pkgLocation, Nothing)
Dim myConns As Connections = pkg.Connections

MessageBox.Show(myConns(0).ID.ToString)
Dim myConnMgr As ConnectionManager = myConns(0)
Dim connProperties As DtsProperties = myConnMgr.Properties

connProperties(0).SetValue(myConnMgr, "notsupposed=towork;")
MessageBox.Show(myConnMgr.ConnectionString)

B.
ConMgr = p.Connections.Add("OLEDB")

ConMgr.ConnectionString = "Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Data Source=192.168.0.233; User ID=sa; Initial Catalog=Rmt_New"
ConMgr.Name = "SqlDatabase"
ConMgr.Description = "Sql Connection"

Any help would appreciated.

Can't Seem To Run SSIS Packages On The 64 Bit...

Feb 28, 2006

I am connecting to a DB2 mainframe to pull data into SQL 2005. Very simple import. SSIS package works fine on 32 bit. However, once deployed to the 64 bit machine, I get "invalid product license" on the Acquire Connection method.

I've worked with IBM support. I have the correct version of the DB2 Connect client installed. The license is there and in the right place. I can connect to the mainframe from the 64 bit server using the DB2 client tools. I just can't seem to execute the package from Integration Services or run a job in SQL Server that executes the package.

According to BOL, the package should automatically detect the 64 client I installed. It and the 32 bit client I developed with share the same name/id.

Am I missing something? Any hints?

DTS Packages In SSIS

But in my case, I am not able to see DTS packages in Management Studio. Is there a property or a setting that we need to configure for that?

SSIS Packages In A Cluster

Jan 17, 2007

I'm still new to SSIS packages and I'm NOT a developer. I am in the process of doing preliminary/prepatory work for migrating our SQL 2000 platforms to SQL 2005.

I am having a REAL headache with migrating/moving DTS packages from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005. Here are things that I know :

1. I know that some packages cannot be migrated due to ActiveX issues and other issues. Fine.

2. I know that I can install DTS backwards compatibility components on the server in order to be able to edit the DTS packages using a SQL 2000 DTS GUI. Fine.

3. I know that I can use the Migration wizard to migrate packages (and that some of them can't be migrated this way). Fine.

Here's what I don't know/or am conjecturing:

1. In a clustered environment, I have to edit the <%Install Path%>/90/DTS/Bin/MsDtsSrvr.ini.xml file to set the <ServerName> property to the Virtual Server name. Correct? Why can't M$ do this for me?

2. Do I HAVE to export the SSIS package to a .DTSX file in order to be able to edit it with Visual Studio? Is there ANY way around this?

3. If I am running in a clustered environment and I use the File System for storing packages, then the pacakges must be stored on a shared volume, right?

4. I did not find SQL Server Integration services on the B- (Passive) node. Do I have to install it separately onto the B server (much like having to install the Client Tools)?

If anyone has some guidance or tips on running SSIS in this brave, new, wonderful world, I would sure appreciate it.

And yes, I am going to go out right now and order a new book on SSIS.

Regards,

hmscott
