Yesterday I was able to connect to the server, and now it's telling me I can't log in via the SQL Server manager.
the database has a red stop signal on it, and I'm not sure what caused this.
I did install Windows XP IIS (Internet Information Services) yesterday. Could this have caused this?
How do I get the database started again?
The error I'm getting during login attempt is this...
===================================

I've two instances(Default, Named[dynamicsFINANCE]) running on SQL server 2014. However, when I try to connect to named instance say (dynamicsFINANCE) using SQL authentication from local SSMS, I get below error message:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)
I assigned a static port number to the named instance [dynamicsFINANCE] 1450. I also setup the firewall rule to allow access to Port 1450.
I have a 3 node cluster on which I have installed SSAS as it's own insntance. I have created this as a named instance and can connect to it by serverinstance if I'm on the server itself. However from my desktop I get the error saying instance was not found on server name.
I have defined an alternate port and setup firewall rules and can connect via server:port but not serverinstance. Prior to making this change SSAS was running on default port of 2383 and I could connect just by servername.
I have read many articles for previous versions saying that clustered SSAS will always use 2383 and that you must connect just using servername. However and this is were it gets strange. I have a 2 node UAT cluster with SSAS setup exactly the same way I've described above and I can connect from my desktop as serverinstance.
Should I be able to connect as serverinstances for a named clustered instance in 2012 ?
How do I connect to an instance of a database which is in a web application (not published) with SQL server management studio express? I seem to be able to connect to the data base created .......but not after i have added it into my web app? does that make sense
Testing a client application which needs to connect to a Analysis Services DB on a different LAN. The application needs to resolve a <server_name><instance_name> to connect however we keep obtain an error message such as "Errors in the OLE DB provider. Could not connect to the redirector. Ensure that the SQLBrowser service is running"
Using ODBC we can connect to the SQL Engine on the SQL Server on the remote LAN and all accounts used are correct, to my knowledge I have installed OLE DB Provider for Analysis Services 9.0 but configured nothing. Can anyone explain where I can set up a connection to Analysis Sevices via OLE DB, ODBC or any other method required to allow our client to connect. So far I'm unable to see any OLAP connection methods in ODBC, only SQL Server or Native SQL.
I want to move one database from the source SQL Server 2000 instance to a new SQL 2000 instance in another machine. I have five user databases in this source SQL instance. How should be my approach to move this single database out of this ? My understanding is restoring this database in the new instance, copying all logins to the new instance and then copying the jobs, DTS packages, alerts, operators only specific to this database will do it. Please let me know if this is exactly what I should do ..

Hello guys,I've got some troubles , by attempting to connect the SQL Server database to my server.I've got this error message on the SQL Configuration Manager (when i tried to start SQL Server which was stopped) " The request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion. I have just recently installed MS SQL Server 2005 Developer edition. I have installed SP2.
Today when I try to connect via Management Studio, I get the following error: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
I installed it as a default instance.
I recently added a login with dbo privileges. I have tried logging in with that sql account and also with windows authentication to no avail.
Generally I install SQL 2005 using the Default Instance Name. When asked for the SQL server (setting up the ODBC connection) I simply enter the name of the server.
I now have installed a new SQL 2005 server, and I gave it a unique Instance Name.
When asked for the SQL server (setting up the ODBC connection) what name do I enter? I assume it has to be more than the server name as the SQL server is unique. What format do I use to enter the unique name of the SQL db?
Hi all,I'm having some trouble with connecting to SQL server instance latelywithout adding a port number. I used to be able to always connect toinstance without having to input SQLSERVER,portnumber. However nowthis is not the case. I doing this through an ADO connection object, and creating the connection string. Does anyone know if there was arecent Microsoft update or patch that would've cause this to stopallowing me to connect to a SQL instance without having to put in theport information? Thanks.

When I try to connect to a default Express instance in Management Studio at the machine (Windows XP SP2) where the instance is installed, I'm getting the following error:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server)
What does provider: SQL Network Interfaces mean? Does it mean the Shared Memory, Named Pipes and TCP/IP?
Additional information: 1. The following Network Protocols are enabled: Shared Memory, Named Pipes, TCP/IP thru Configuration Manager 2. SQL Server Express default instance is running using NT AUTHORITYNetworkService. 3. SQL Server Browser service is not running. I believe this is not needed unless I want to connect to the instance from another machine. 4. Has tried to disable Windows Firewall but I believe it should not be matter in this particular case since this is within the same machine. 5. Can connect to the instance in ODBC Administrator using System DSN thru Named Pipes or TCP/IP.
Can such error caused by not having sufficient memory so the system is running kind of slow?

I have verified that the following services ARE running.SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS)SQL Server Browser SQL Server VSS Writer. This one however will not start ... For some reason it starts then automatically turns off.SQL Server Agent (SQLEXPRESS).When I try to connect using my <machine name>/instance and Windows Authentication I get the following error ...
"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server)".The connection specified in the "Connect to Server" box was working perfectly fine before I upgraded. I thought it might have been my Norton 360 Premier but I uninstalled it.I AM having issues with the adapter frequently dropping the internet connection but I just disconnect and reconnect and that resolves itself. The other technique I tried was to replace the server name with the IP address ... <192.168.0.22>/Instance ... This actually seemed to find the SQL Server but rejected the Windows Authentication ...
"Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication." I have several databases on here and would hate to have to reinstall SQL Server and manually hook them back up.
While configuring database mirroring in principle server with partner. It shows an error
'Msg 1418, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 The server network address "TCP://mirror:5025" can not be reached or does not exist. Check the network address name and reissue the command.'
But i can telnet mirror 5025 successfully. I have use IP instead but same errror encountered. Any advise on it? Thanks in advance
I have installed SQL Server 2005 on two boxes and installed client tools only on my local machine. I cannot connect to either machine. I also have the "Error 26 problem - does not allow remote connection etc." Of my two remote servers, one is virtual the other is not.
I cannot establish a connection through the "Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio" tool on my local machine using: Severname: ServerNameInstanceName Authentication: Either Windows or SQL Server Eveything is enabled (TCPIP, Name Pipes), no firewall SqlBrowser is running I have SQL Server 2000 also installed on the same server machines and I am able to connect to this. I tried using IP addresses and port numbers as follows (NB ServerName implies alias or ip address) and portnumbers I have tried are 1433 and 1766:
I am using the following connection string to connect to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition installed on my local PC. string sqlstr = "Server=(local);Database=MyDB;User ID=sa;Password=sa;Trusted_Connection=False";
And it gives me the following error. The string works fine in computer with SQL Server 2000 instance but fails with 2005. The string also fails for "Server = localhost". However the string works very fine if I use the name of Server 2005 i.e ./SQLExpress

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
Now the main problem is that, of course I could use a named instance, but since I am embedding the Connection String in a dll file so that any user can use it to connect it to the local instance of the SQL Server 2005 installed in his/her computer, I need to use "server = localhost". Doesn't SQL 2005 support this. If yes, where could i find option to enable it?
I have enabled every option available in surface area configuration for SQL Server 2005, but nothing seems to help out. I even use local as well as remote connections using both TCP/IP and named pipes. Can nyone help me out?
We had changed the IP address of our SQL Database server(include the Report Server). After we finished this, we restarted the server, but now, we cannot connect to the Report instance, database instance have no problem.
Just when I think I have this stuff figured out, it bites me back everytime.
I'm trying to deploy an mdf out to a different machine, and attached to it with local user instance. I connect without problem from my development machine with a local user instance, which also has Express Manager resident, and I can connect to a server instance without problem.
What I can't do is copy the .mdf database over to another workstation, which has Sql Native Client installed, and connect to the database using a local user instance! I can connect to a server instance without problem from this other workstation. Here's my connect string for local user instance that works fine from my dev machine:
Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Persist Security Info=False;Integrated Security=SSPI;Data Source=.sqlexpress;AttachDBFileName=<full path_name and mdf filename>;User Instance=true;
The error I get upon trying to connect with other stations is:
Error -2147467259 Database not found or cound not connect to database
I've tried this every way I know how. I've copied the database from my dev machine both with and without having detached the database from the local instance. I've tried detaching from a server instance and copying the file over. Nothing works, and I've done this before! What gives with this thing?
I have about 4 SQL servers that have SQL2005 as the default instance and SQL2000 as a second instance. My problem is that I can not connect to the SQL2000 instances using the instance name. I can get to it using IP address and port number or if I set up an alias with IP and port number, but not by name (ie ServerNameSQL2000 which is how the instance was named). If the process is reversed (install SQL 2000 first and then SQL 2005) I can get to both instances using instance name.
I read something about if SQL2005 Browser service is running when SQL2000 service starts, the SQL2000 service won't listen for calls, but it was rather vague and I am not real sure if that is true. I am in the process of trying to test this to see if it is true, but due to the nature of the servers, I have to follow a process and it will take me a couple of days before I can test.
So I was hoping to find someone to deny or confirm this. Or who has had a similar issue and can shed some light on this for me. Thank you for you time. I appreciate it.
I installed SQL Server Express and SQL Server manager, then tried to start manager. SQL Service is running, but SQL Manager attempt to connect to SQL Server instance times-out even though I correctly identify instance as SQLEXPRESS? Everything seems to be normal - both SQL Server and Manager are on a single Windows XP home machine. Any suggestions. Thanks
Hi, I am struggling connection to a named instance of SQL 2000 (SP4) from another machine but without any success. I get an error message saying that the server does not exist or access is denied.
The security configuration in this named instance is the same as the default instance (also 2000) and the remote machine can connect to it successfully.
I also configured the aliases in Client Network Utility in the client machine and set the server (machine) name and the port number used by the instance - but no help.
I use osql and Query Analyzer to connect to it, but I cannot connect by any of them.
Connecting locally, in the machine where the instance is installed, is successful.
The same behaviour appears when I try to connect to another instance on the machine which is 2005. Something with the named instance is problematic.
I had a big problem on connecting sqlserver remotely from other machines on the network .....
From any computer in the network i wanna to register the instance of the sqlserver from the enterprise manager ..... the server instance doesn't appear within the available sqlserver list (the servername which equal to my machine is the only one that appear) ..... when i manualy write the servernamealias manually and i choose the connection type and then i write sqlserver username and password and then finish he give a message to me that access denied or sql server doesn't exist ... !!
by the way from the local machine i registered the local instance of sqlserver successfully and successfully i access the Databases .....
To be noted:
I previously uninstalled this alias and i then i reinstalled it again with the same name and i attached the previously exists Databes.
in the same time i installed on the same machine sqlserver 2005 connectivity clients not the server itself.
I am trying to remotely connect to a SQL 2005 Instance on a cluster. I see the following error:
No retry on exception System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
I have enabled TCP/IP , Named Pipes on the node. I have turned off IPSec on the clients as well. I am using the following connection string : "Integrated Security=SSPI;server=servernameinstancename;Pooling=false;database=TrialDB"
(have reposted this here from Setup group, since no answers there)
Hi, I am having a lot of trouble connecting to a user instance I've created. User instances have been enabled, Named pipes are also enabled. Running on XP SP2 with SQL2K5 SP2. I also have a standard SQL2005 instance running on this development machine.
When using SqlClient in a .Net2.0 application, my connection string to create the user instance looks like: "Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;integrated security=true;attachdbfilename=c: emp3500.mdf;user instance=true"
This connection succeeds and I see the new service being started etc. I also see the log file being created in my Application Data area. The log file all looks normal except for these lines at the very top of the report.
2008-04-15 16:29:13.57 Server Error: 17156, Severity: 16, State: 1. 2008-04-15 16:29:13.57 Server initeventlog: Could not initiate the EventLog Service for the key 'D69F8BFF-E490-47'. 2008-04-15 16:29:13.67 Server Error: 17054, Severity: 16, State: 1. 2008-04-15 16:29:13.67 Server The current event was not reported to the Windows Events log. If i try to connect via sqlcmd with this command line: C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 8VC>sqlcmd -S np:\.pipeD69F8BFF-E49 0-47 sqlquery -l 60
this will give: HResult 0x57, Level 16, State 1 SQL Network Interfaces: Connection string is not valid [87]. Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft SQL Native Client : An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.. Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft SQL Native Client : Login timeout expired.
If i try to connect via SSMS using the pipe name above and everything else defaulted, i get the following error: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
Both errors are pretty similar. I am running this locally, so I suspect the 'remote connection' error text is a red herring. The connection string is pretty minimal so I cant see why the connection string is invalid.
Heres another wierd thing. It used to consistently work. It now consistently fails. I have also tried creating a VM with SQLX. Now that works initially but once it fails, it seems to fail consistently. Reboots of the VM dont seem to fix it. That sort of leads me to believe that I've done something to my server (ie a setting somewhere).
Any help getting this connection issue sorted would be appreciated!
I recent installed a named instance of SSRS 2005 on a remote server. The server has a side by side install of SSRS 2000 and SSRS 2005, with the SSRS 2005 being a named instance. The server also has SSL and MS Sharepoint Portal Server installed.
When I try and connect to the SSRS 2005 instance with my client install of Mangement Studio, I get the error message:
"The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish a trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel. (System.Web.Services)
Additional Information: The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure. (System)."
Obviously, this is a SLL issue, but, not being a security guru, I have no clue on how to fix this. I do know the certificate is valid, not expired and properly working. Both installs of SSRS are set up using the SSL certificate. Also, I am not connecting to SSIS with Management Studio, as I heard there is a bug connecting to both SSRS and SSIS at the same time.
I recently installed SQL Server and Visual Studio. When I went into SQL Server, I could only connect to a SQL EXPRESS Database engine. I need to access the full Database. I tried disconnecting it, uninstalling/reinstalling. Now I cant connect to the SQL EXPRESS DB Object. There are no SQL Server services running.
