Can't Delete Maintenance Report Files (txt) In SQL/2005

Jul 30, 2007

I have several maintenance plans setup and working in SQL/2005 (sp2 9.0.3042) on several servers; however, the .txt maint plan output files will not delete on any of the servers. The backups run fine, the old database and transaction log backup files delete fine (.bak and .trn); but, the .txt files won't go away unless I delete them by hand. I tried copy/paste the scripted command (xp_delete_file) and it runs with no errors but does not delete the old .txt files. ( This server was upgraded from SQL/2000 -

EXECUTE master.dbo.xp_delete_file 1,N'E:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLLOG',N'txt',N'2007-07-09T10:59:38'

)
I do NOT specify a period (.) in the file extension dialog box. Any ideas before I setup a .cmd batch file and schedule it instead?

Thanks in Advance,

DeWayne

Sql Server 2005 Maintenance Task Delete Files Does Not Work

Mar 24, 2008

I used the toolbox to select maintenance cleanup task to create the job to do this. In reading similar notes regarding this problem, some people mentioned that there was a choice to include subfolders. I do not have this choice. When I execute select @@version I get Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.3042.00 (X64) Feb 10 2007 00:59:02 Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2) . This is running on a cluster. Any idea what is going on here? Thanks.

I have some simple files but they are failing because the delete history task is failing as it is looking for files in a non existent directory.

It is looking for files in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL10_50.INSTANCEMSSQLLog whereas it should be looking in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLLog

how I can get this corrected so I can get the Maintenance Plans to run correctly.

SQL 2005 Maintenance Cleanup Task Is Not Deleting Files On Remote File Share

Jan 16, 2008

I have the following issue with Maintenance plan backups that work for BAK DIF and TRN to a remote server share.
When I try and remove the old files with a clean up task I get an error and the files don't get deleted.

The version is as follows
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.3054.00 (X64) Mar 23 2007 18:41:50
Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Standard Edition (64-bit) on
Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2)

The error result is as follows,

Failed-1073548784) Executing the query "EXECUTE master.dbo.xp_delete_file
0,N'\\EXECUTE master.dbo.xp_delete_file 0,N'\ABCD-A1\BACKUPS\ABCD_BACKUP\ABC_DAILY\ABCD',N'trn',N'2008-01-13T12:52:49'" failed with the following error: "xp_delete_file() returned error 2, 'The
system cannot find the file specified.'". Possible failure reasons: Problems
with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set
correctly, or connection not established correctly.

The maintenance plan seems to be adding extra "" though when i enter the
code directly in a query i get same error.

Query:

EXECUTE master.dbo.xp_delete_file 0,N'\ABCD-A1BACKUPSABCD_BACKUPABC_DAILYABCD',N'trn',N'2008-01-13T12:52:49'

Error:

xp_delete_file() returned error 2, 'The system cannot find the file specified.'

The servers belong to the same domain and are using the same Service account which has all the necessary rights to the share and the file directory location. The backups work but i get the error on the cleanup task.

Trying to figure out how to get the Cleanup task to delete old files. The same happens for all file extensions and I have tried other locations with simpler file paths same error.

Regards,
Scott

SQL 2012 :: FOR FILES Command To Delete Old Backup Files On Remote Server?

Feb 24, 2015

I have the need to delete old backup files via TSQL job. Found this solution online:

PushD "
emoteservershareDIFF" &&(
forfiles -m *DIFF*.sqb -d -1 -c "cmd /c del /q @path"
) & PopD

It works remotely if I run it via command prompt. But when I add this to a TSQL job on my remote SQL instance, it runs without deleting anything. What I'm missing?

Maintenance Plan Won't Run, Modify Or Delete

Feb 28, 2008

Had to replace leased server hardware running Server2003, Sql2005. Had machine Server B, set up sql2005, set up maintenance plan to do full backup on all user dbs every night to Server C network share. Worked great for over a week. Came time to do the swamp, brought down old server, renamed Server B to Server A, ran:
EXEC sp_dropserver '<old_name>'
GO
EXEC sp_addserver '<new_name>', 'local'
GO

All other functions to the database seem to be working fine. Was using a network administrator account - same one that worked before the name change so the SID is the same. Unfortunately, I decided to try and delete and start over in case it was just a gliche. Now, the history seems to be gone, but I can't actually delete the job or the maintenance plan. Get an error "Does not allow remote connections." even when I'm physically sitting at the machine.

Now, maintenance plans won't run - can't delete them, can't modify them. Other dts packages that execute a query or bring in data from other datasources work just fine.

Help!?

Cannot Delete A Maintenance Task In Mgmt Studio

I deleted a database referenced in a maint. task and then I tried to delete the maint. task. I am getting an error "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation" and also it says Named Pipes Provider:, error 40: Could not open a connection to SQL , error 53). I think it has something to do with deleting Maint. Tasks outside of SSIS. Does anyone know of a solution?

Thank you.

Maintenance - Not Deleting Old Files

Apr 3, 2006

We have our Maintenance routines set up to delete files older that one week, but it is not working...

...Consequently, we forget to go out and remove the files manually, thus we lose backups due to the drive being full and have to manually remove files, then backup the databases and start all over again.

Has anybody had this problem and can you tell me where to look to try and figure out what the problem is ??

Thanks in advance,
Nancy

Copy Files After Backup In Maintenance Plan

Sep 19, 2007

Hello,

We're new users of SQL Server 2005. I created two maintenance plans...one to backup the database at 2 AM daily and one to back up transaction logs every 30 minutes. These maintenance plans write to a local disk. What we want to do, within the maintenance plan, is copy the files as soon as they are written to a remote server. Is that possible?

Thanks in advance.

Cannot Amend Or Delete Subscription And Cannot Delete Report.

Nov 20, 2007

Hi,

I have a problem with one report on my server. A user has requested that I exclude him from receiving a timed email subscription to several reports. I was able to amend all the subscriptions except one. When I try to remove his email address from the subscription I receive this error:

An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. (rsInternalError) Get Online Help

For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors

Online no help couldn't offer any advice at all, so I thought I'd just delete the subscription and recreate it again, but I receive the same message. "Okay, no problem, I'll just delete the report and redeploy it and set up the subscription so all the other users aren't affected", says I. "Oh, no!", says the report server, and then it give me this message:

System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Server was unable to process request. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Only members of sysadmin role are allowed to update or delete jobs owned by a different login. at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.FinishExecuteReader(SqlDataReader ds, RunBehavior runBehavior, String resetOptionsString) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReaderTds(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, Boolean async) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReader(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, String method, DbAsyncResult result) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.InternalExecuteNonQuery(DbAsyncResult result, String methodName, Boolean sendToPipe) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.InstrumentedSqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.DBInterface.DeleteObject(String objectName) at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.RSService._DeleteItem(String item) at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.RSService.ExecuteBatch(Guid batchId) at Microsoft.ReportingServices.WebServer.ReportingService2005.ExecuteBatch() --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

What's even weirder is that I'm the owner and creator of the report and I'm a system admin and content manager on the report server and I set up the subscription when the report was initially deployed. Surely I should have sufficient rights to fart around with this subscription/report as I see fit?

I have rebooted the server, redeployed the report, checked credentials on the data source and tried amending and deleting from both the report manager and management studio but still I am prevented from doing so.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Maintenance Plans (2000), Remove Files Older Than, And Network Shares

Sep 21, 2007

We have some to-disk backups scheduled on our 2000 Enterprise machine - nightly fulls, hourly logs - that go to a network share located on another machine. They were originally stored directly on the same machine as SQL Server, but we changed them to a remote destination within the past few weeks. This works okay, but despite having the maintenance plan set to remove files older than 2 days, old files don't seem to be removed. Understandably, this gets to be a problem when the backup disk becomes filled.

Is there any obvious reason why this option wouldn't work against a network share? I've checked the directory permissions, and the SQL Agent domain account should have no trouble deleting the files.

Soft Delete In Table, Why Merge Agent Report Hards Delete On Table ?

Feb 1, 2007

Hi seniors

there are two tables involve in replication let say table1 and replicated table is also rep.table1.

we are not deleting records physically in table1 so only a bit in table1 has true when u want to delete a record but the strange thing is that replication agaent report that this is hard delete operation on table1 so download and report hard delete operation and delete the record in replicated table which is very crucial.

plz let me know where am i wrong and how i put it into right way.

there is no triggers on published tables and noother trigger is created on published table.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

Delete Old Files (SSIS Or DOS)

Oct 9, 2007

I've been tasked with coming up with a process to delete old files out of a certain directory. It's prefered to have a configuration file to go in and be able to change the number of days to retain files (7 for delete files older than 7 days for example). I've been told I can do this with SSIS. Can anybody point me in the right direction to do this in SSIS or even in DOS? I don't know ActiveX scripting if that's what's needed in SSIS. I prefer doing something like this in DOS but not sure it's possible to automate. Any help is appreciated.

Ideas???

Converting Report Desinger Files To Report Builder

Oct 6, 2007

Hi

I am working on Report builder project and was wondering if somone can help me with below questions

Is it possible to convert RDL files built in report designer to Report Builde RDL file? if yes then is there any tool or we will have to do it manually. I have also seen that there is no SQL in RDL files created in Report Builder.
If above is not possible then my second question is if we can only copy the layout but as we have got 1000 RDL files in built by report desinger how can we automatically convert this into layout in Report Builder.
Does Microsoft has any specific tools for this?
Will highly appreciate for any help on above.
