I have a query where I am trying to export a column that has around
2000 characters and it is truncated. What is not setup in MS SQL
correctly so that DTS will export the csv correctly.
Basically, I'm trying to upload data from one system to another and the system which is receiving data is throwing error after loading few records. On further investigation I found out that the failing records has bad characters embedded. I was wondering if there is way to find out all the bad characters (special characters) in a table. I'm using MSSQL Server 2005 version. Tried using RegGenExpression but no luck.
i suspect i know the answer to this already, but here goes anyway....i have a table that has field of varchar(2048), which once in a blue moon ineed to edit the data manually (until a bad character parser validates thedata before it's written ;-) )at the moment i'm doing this through enterprise manager (sql server 2000),opening the table then filtering using where clauses etc to see the recordsi'm interested in. i then edit the data direct in the results pane (purelybecause it's quicker than entering the UPDATE transact SQL). this is fineuntil i hit a record that has 1024 or more characters in the field. all ican do is delete all the data. if i try and paste the same data into thefield again, it'll truncate the record to the first 1024 chars (unconfirmed)despite the field being able to take double that.i've googled this and the result basically said "don't be lazy, do itthrough UPDATE transact SQL in the query analyser".anyone know if that's my only option or is there a patch / whatever to allowme to keep using entman as i lazily do at the mo?cheers!
I've got an issue - I've got a needed query that executes fine, etc..etc...
the issue is , 1 or more columns (depending) are of TEXT data type - and by virtue of potentially poor front end data entry design - they have large strings stored in each record - much of these strings are made even larger ( in char size ) because of html being stored in the db -- from a design point of view - I blame who ever designed the CMS system that allows this --- thats neither here nor there
The issue is I need these fields and their respective "description" data. BUT I also need to export it to something usable my a marketing department.
The issue lies in that MSSQL Studio - which in grid reports the columns, values, etc..etc.. fine - upon .CVS export - INSTEAD OF TRUNCATING @ THE MAX CHAR LENGTH PER COLUMN (8126 or something) IT PUSHES THE REMAINING TEXT TO THE NEXT COLUMN.
big problem --- to be honest, I dont really need all the data - even just like 500 characters would be more then enough
my question : Is there a way to limit column return lenght @ the query level ? (NOT a truncation of table)
Hey everyone! I'm doing an export from SQL into excel spreadsheet and then am going to clean out certain parts of the data with global search/replace. The problem is that the SQL data is full of special characters such as |'s and the little box looking characters. How do I export without these characters? I know its possible, I did it about 2 years ago and remember I did some crazy file conversion (make wk3 or something) but I no longer remember Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks, Geoff

I have a report that has 10 columns. While viewing, users should see only 8 columns and 2 will be hidden. But is there any way we can export those 2 hidden columns to excel?
Hi I need to export data to CSV file from Sql Reporting Services. I am including single quotations in my view to display in SRS for string fields. After export if we open in Notepad, for string field it is adding multiple quotations.

I need to be able to suppress the printing of a particular value when exporting, but not when displaying on a web viewer on-line. I can place an IIF() condition around the field to do this, but do not know how to obtain a parameter/value/function which would recognize that the viewer has selected an export (To .PDF for example). I would prefer there be a direct parameter I can read from the RDL language, however recognizing the selection while setting up the viewer to be displayed in the code-behind and setting an external parameter is also an option.
Is there any nice way when saving a result set grid to CSV (right click, save to CSV) to properly delimit text fields that contain commas? As it is, text data that includes commas cannot be safely exported to CSV.
In my application I must store over 16000 character in a sql table field . When I split into more than 1 field it gives "unclosed quotation mark" message. How can I store over 16000 characters to sql table field (only one field) with language specific characters?
Hi everybody, I would like to know if there is any property in sql2000 database to separate lowercase characters from uppercase characters. I mean not to take the values €˜child€™ and €˜Child€™ as to be the same. We are transferring our ingres database into sqlserver. In ingres we have these values but we consider them as different values. Can we have it in sqlserver too?
I have just started using SQL Server reporting services and am stuck with creating subreports.
I have a added a sub report to the main report. When I right click on the sub report, go to properties -> Parameters, and click on the dropdown for Parameter Value, I see all Sum and Count fields but not the data fields.
For example, In the dropdownlist for the Parameter value, I see Sum(Fields!TASK_ID.Value, "AppTest"), Count(Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, "CammpTest") but not Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, Fields!TASK_ID.Value which are the fields retrieved from the dataset assigned to the subreport.
When I manually change the parameter value to Fields!TASK_ID.Value, and try to preview the report, I get Error: Subreport could not be shown. I have no idea what the underlying issue is but am guessing that it's because the field - Fields!TASK_ID.Value is not in the dropdown but am trying to link the main report and sub report with this field.
Am I missing something here? Any help is appreciated.

Pardon me if this question is too elementary. I am trying to create a trigger that will cause certain datafields to be updated with values from other data fields in the same row when a certain column, created specifically to fire the trigger, is updated. The purpose of this is to reduce data entry by field personnel.I think I have the create trigger statement correct, but I'm a little confused on the update statement.

I have a list of items in one table and a field (pageName) in another table that may contain one of the aforementioned items somewhere within that field. There is no fixed position within the field where the itemNo may be so I can't just use SUBSTRING(pageName,2,5) in(select itemNo from tblItem).
Logically, it's like I need to combine IN and LIKE: select pageName where pageName LIKE IN %select itemNo from tblitemNo%..LIKE can only handle one comparison string.
Hi people My users are having troubles with link to default drillthrough report when reports are exported to excel (they REALLY don't like this behavior ), so I decided set all of them disabled in report model, this work fine, but calculated field in reports has this drillthrough link.
Let me show you the situation. Entity Product has an UnitaryCost field, I set the EnableDrillthrough Property in False so when I export a report with this field, no link is shown.
But if I create in the report a calculated field Round(UnitaryCost) this field has a Drillthrough Link
Is this the standard and expected behavior? or its simply a BUG?
Have I done something wrong in my model? and in this case, How I can correct this?
I'm trying to export data from a SQL Server 2005 database to a DB2 database through SSIS. However, I keep getting an error that says "Could not retrieve table list" with Invalid Conversion. SQLSTATE=07006. Does anybody have any ideas or what the problem could be? -Kyle
Anyone know why cells within a matrix that are formatted as numeric export to Excel with a cell format proprty of "General"? Cells within a table however export with an appropriate format.
I am using BCP to export a Table to a TAB delimited file. This works great, but in some fields a NULL in the Table is being exported as a character zero in the Tab file. I confirmed this by looking at the Tab file with a Hex editor.

Now to the questione: We can't use more than 255 characters, in Books Online it says that char and varchar supports 1 to 8000 characters but it doesn't work for us.
I have a field oh phone numbers that had no specific format. I have removed all of the previous formatting so know there are just a string of 10 numbers and I want them all to change to "(###) ###-####". Is there an SQL statement that I can use to update the field in a batch process. Any help would be great. I also have linked the tables to an access db, if that makes it easier. Any help is much appreciated.
Hi, I am Suhasini. While saving data from front end(Asp.net) to back end(Sql server 2005 express edition) i am getting junk characters also added to the database. This character just look like a checkbox. Basically i am adding options using a multiline text box, is there any thing wrong with that. options are saved in the database as junk character followed by option1...... etc. Kindly suggest me on this.
