Can't Install BCM - SQL Instance Not Created && Path Not Found
Apr 15, 2008
When trying to install Business Contact Manager (BCM) for Outlook 2007, the setup failed and I was refered to a log file in my Local Settings Temp folder. The log actually says that Business Contact Manager was installed sucessfully! BCM is supposed to install SQL Express 2005 an an instance or an instance if SQL Express is already installed. The BCM Instance did not install either when installing SQL Express with BCM or when SQL Express is installed first and then BCM is installed.
When I went into Computer Management and clicked on Services and Applications in the left panel, the error message appeared "Snap-in failed to intialize. Name: SQL Server Configuration Manager CLSID:{CA9F8727-31DF-41D2-975C-887D84903967} This message diappeared when I clicked on Services and Applications again. Under Services, there are 3 SQL services - one is an application that was uninstalled 3-4 weeks ago and I disabled this service. The other 2 are: SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ) and the other one is SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) When I tried to start either of the last 2, the message appeared: Services "Could not start the SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ) service on Local Computer. Error 3: The system cannot finde the path specified.
How do I get the BCM SQL instance to install and what do the messages in Services mean and how do I resolve these.
Thank you!

I have a 3 node cluster on which I have installed SSAS as it's own insntance. I have created this as a named instance and can connect to it by serverinstance if I'm on the server itself. However from my desktop I get the error saying instance was not found on server name.
I have defined an alternate port and setup firewall rules and can connect via server:port but not serverinstance. Prior to making this change SSAS was running on default port of 2383 and I could connect just by servername.
I have read many articles for previous versions saying that clustered SSAS will always use 2383 and that you must connect just using servername. However and this is were it gets strange. I have a 2 node UAT cluster with SSAS setup exactly the same way I've described above and I can connect from my desktop as serverinstance.
Should I be able to connect as serverinstances for a named clustered instance in 2012 ?

Setup:
I'm using SQLCE on a VB.Net (2005) desktop applicaiton.
I have strongly typed datasets pointing to tables in the SDF.
The path to the sdf is |DataDirectory|DataQQ.sdf
Problem:
When I run my application, I have a list of context sensitive tasks that appear as buttons.
When the user steps into a control, the app retrieves a list of context tasks from the SDF and populates the buttons.
When the user pushes one of the buttons, for example "View File" the appropriate action takes place.
However, when the user enters into the next field, I get a SQLCeException telling me the path could not be found (error 25009). The Path it gives is Path = .DataQQ.sdf
It points to the task of getting data from the Context Tasks table.
The problem is, though, that it just accessed that same path and same table to populate the task list.
I've manually checked the file location in explorer as well as openning up the database in Management Studio. It exists and opens fine. But for some reason, it seems to lose the path or connection in between 2 identical calls.
I don't believe I saw this problem until after I switched TO strongly typed datasets.
Any ideas?

I am trying to use a file system task to create a directory. The error indicates that the path does not exist. But isn't that what the task is for: Creating a path (essentially a set of related folders)? Here is the path as supplied via variable:
\Computernamecommon3 Day StorageHWillamkeygrip
Anything obviously wrong?
BTW, I have no control over the fact that there are spaces in this path
Thanks in advance

Hi,
I am trying to write a desktop application using C# and .NET that can edit an SQL Server Mobile database stored on a device. The problem is no matter how I specify the data source, I get an error the path was not found. Heres the bit of the code:
string strConn = "Data Source=" + "Mobile Device\My Documents\Nutricom.sdf";
SqlCeConnection connDB = new SqlCeConnection(strConn);
connDB.Open();
And the error i get is..
The path is not valid. Check the directory for the database. [ Path = Mobile DeviceMy DocumentsNutricom.sdf ]
Everytime it thorws an error saying the path is invalid and to check the locaiton of the database. Ive tried it without the "Mobile Device" bit of the string and still nothing. The database is definately in this location.
Any help? It's driving me insane.

We installed the SQL Server 2012 GUI tools, including "Upgrade Advisor," on a new virtual machine. We can connect to the old SQL Server 2008 R2 clustered databases just fine over port 1433 using SQL Server Management Studio 2012, but Upgrade Advisor is a mixed bag. Here are the steps we are taking:
- Click on "Start," "All Programs," "Microsoft SQL Server 2012," "SQL Server 2012 Upgrade Advisor"
- Fill in the server name with a valid SQL Server Network Name
- Select "SQL Server" as the only component to be analyzed
- Fill in the instance name with a valid named instance
- Use Windows Authentication (the default)
- The "SQL Server Parameters" window displays valid database names, meaning that we have a successful connection to the desired SQL Server instance at this point
- Leave all of the databased selected (the default)
- Click the "Run" button
- The "Upgrade Advisor Progress" window spins for a while and eventually generates the following error:
TITLE: mscorlib
------------------------------
The network path was not found.
------------------------------
BUTTONS:
OK
------------------------------
Why would Upgrade Advisor be able to display the database names after making a successful connection only to fail later saying that it cannot find the network path?

I've been working on an SSIS package trying to load some data and the archive sequence is faulty. I've been trying to load a few tables created in a previous sequence into a local archive file and I've been getting the error "Could not find a part of the path."
The results aren't telling me what it's finding last and so I don't know where to start.
And the source DOES have data in it. It's something between the source and the destination.

Why are the user databases that were created in the MSSQLSERVER default instance showing up in the newly created ALPHAONE instance? I'm successfully logging into the alphaone database as it shows as "DASAlphaOne,1xxxPport) at the top of the treeview in ssms. I'm logging in as sa and can edit anything.
The issue here is that all the user databases are shown and can even be edited. I created this instance in an effort to hide databases from whoever is not supposed to see.I was expecting a clean instance with only the system databases..Is there something that can be set to keep each instance's databases private into itself?

Problem: When the application installs it requires SQL Express
Server 2005. If it does not exist it will install it or
rollback. -> continue installation -> When the form
attempts to locate an SQL Instance on a machine that has not had SQL
server or any components connected before it shows up as
<null>. I need to have access to the server(s) instances in
order to build the application database inside SQL. Am I using
the wrong approach with SQLDMO? Is there adifferent method
to access the installed SQL Express 2005 connection string?
Current code to locate SQL Instances:
try
{
////////////////////////////////////////
// Search and List SQL Server Instances
////////////////////////////////////////
//set cursor to thinking/hourglass
System.Windows.Forms.Cursor.Current =
System.Windows.Forms.Cursors.AppStarting;
//begin
ArrayList aServers = new ArrayList();
SQLDMO.ApplicationClass acServers = new SQLDMO.ApplicationClass();
//loop through the servers found
for (int iServerGroupCount = 1; iServerGroupCount <=
acServers.ServerGroups.Count; iServerGroupCount++)
{
for (int iServerCount = 1; iServerCount <=
acServers.ServerGroups.Item(iServerGroupCount).RegisteredServers.Count;
iServerCount++)
{
aServers.Add(acServers.ServerGroups.Item(iServerGroupCount).RegisteredServers.Item(iServerCount).Name);
}
}
//add the servers to the drop down box
if (aServers.Count < 1)
{
string NotExist = "<No Servers Found>";
cboServers.Items.Add(NotExist);
cboServers.SelectedIndex = 0;
btnSQLDataBaseCheckDB.Enabled = false;
}
else
{
cboServers.Items.AddRange(aServers.ToArray());
//select the first item in the array index to display
cboServers.SelectedIndex = 0;
}
}
catch (Exception ServerException)
{
MessageBox.Show(ServerException.Message);
}
Slightly stuck at the moment with this. Any tips or leads in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Can anyone translate this error for me and give me some tips on what do to.I checked first the user running the sql express service and saw it was the NETWORK SERVICE user. I changed it to be the local system account but that did not make any difference. The application is running just fine on my local computer(Win XP sp2). This one has SQL express April edition though.

The sql server 2005 will not let me install a new instance. I run setup and try to install a new instance but get the following error message:
Note: the install disk is pre SP2 and the current sql server is SP2.
SQL Server Setup cannot write system databases to C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData, because it contains files from a previous installation. To continue, move the databases from the specified folder, or specify a different installation folder. Then run SQL Server Setup again.
I currently have a good work instance and don't want to have to move the "system database". Also I have tried to choose a different folder to install but still no luck.

I tried to uninstall and re-install using mixed mode but here is where the nightmare begins. I am not technical. I went to the support forum but couldn't understand most of the answers to questions which seemed to be related to my problem.
Please, could someone help me with this. It sounds like a simple problem but I am stuck.
Thanks for any help.

I'm currently building an MSI to install SQL Express and want to install as a new instance, not the default instance, and not into the SQLEXPRESS instance either.
I saw the package.xml for Express in my VS Studio install. How would I go about using this? Or would I have to modify the MSI via Orca or something? I hope not. Wouldn't have a clue where to start.
In short, regardless if there is already an SQL Express instance on the machine or not, I need to silently install a fresh new instance of the server engine only, no client tools except sqlcmd.exe
I have seen that MS would advise that everyone use the SQLEXPRESS instance but I don't agree with it. I don't want other application installs trampling over my server settings and I don't want to trample over others. For example, expose others to TCPIP and CLR when they don't need it, and conversely others swithing them off in a shared server instance when I do need them.
