Hi, I'm having a problem installing SQL2005 Developer on Windows Vista.
At the System Configuration check page, I'm getting the IIS Feature Requirement item telling me IIS is not installed or disabled. This is not the case.
I have read article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920201 and switched on the IIS components as specified.
I've tried installing with Firewall, virus checker etc switched off. Every time I get the same problem. This is an issue, as I specifically need Reporting Services installed.
I'm trying to migrate a MSDE based application into a SQL2005 Express SP2 DB Engine on Windows Vista Business but I'm facing several errors that are blocking me. Since the installation of SQL2005 Expr. must be done in a silent mode (the end user shouldn't set anything), I'm installing it using this syntax:
The installation proceeds without problems but when my program tries to create the database, a message error appears:
CREATE DATABASE denied on database 'master' (I translated directly from italian). What I would like is to install SQL 2005 with "Windows Authentication" access instead of "SQL Authentication".
If I install SQL2005 manually by setting a named instance (CSERV), Windows Authentication mode, activating the option "set the local account as SQL administrative account" (translated from italian and suggested with Vista) I get the following error (read from the LOG):
CREATE FILE encountered operating system error 5 (access denied) while attempting to open or create the physical file 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerCSERVDataCGIDBDat.mdf'
CSERVData is the folder that the application creates and where the "mdf" and "ldf" files are stored.
So in the first case it seems that SQL2005 don't recognize the local account as administrator even if the user has administrative privileges (at least for Vista), in the second case is Vista that is blocking the action.
I purchased a Dell laptop with Vista. I then downloaded MSSQL Express Edition with Advanced Services (after first downloading .NET 3.5) and when it tried to run the executable, it gave an error that it was not a valid win32 app.
How to I correct this and successfully install MSSQL Express?

Having had no luck getting prior versions of Sql Server Express to install on Vista RC2. I was hoping that SP2 would install with no problems however I'm still getting the same error as before and can't find any working solution to this anywhere on the web.
The actual error I'm getting occurs when the install tries to start the SQL Server service and connect. I get
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup ------------------------------
SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Shared Memory Provider: No process is on the other end of the pipe. Refer to server error logs and setup logs for more information. For details on how to view setup logs, see "How to View Setup Log Files" in SQL Server Books Online.
This error apparently also occurs on other platforms than Vista. Any ideas how to get past this? The Vista install is still pretty much a clean install.
I am unable to install Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007. I sought help in the BCM forum, but the developer who I spoke with came to the conclusion that it is a SQL Server Express problem that I am experiencing, and so he recommended that I come here for help.
I am running on Vista Ultimate.
Every attempt I have made to install BCM (and later SQL Express Server 2005 separately, see below) has failed at the same point, with the same error message:
"SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'sa'.
Today I attempted to install SQL Express Server SP2 separately on its own, the idea being that if this worked, then I might be able to install BCM on top of it. I attempted the SQL EE SP2 installation after uninstalling all remnants of previous installations to the best of my ablity. The SP2 installation failed at the same point, and had the same appearance, as I saw in all prior attempts. (The installer reported no errors or warnings in its system checks prior to beginning the actual install.)
Here is the summary log from this trial:

I have a new laptop with VISTA. I've enabled IIS with all features turned on. When I install SQL Server 2005 Express I get a warning stating IIS is either not installed or disabled. Any ideas? Thanks.
I have been trying to install SQL Express SP2 (SQLEXPR32.exe) on a Window Vista Home Premium for past 2 days . After failing I tried installing SQLEXPR_ADV. (Maybe I have a corrupted download, desperate enough to try anything.). However it keeps showing the following error:
SQL Server Setup Failed to compile the Managed Object Format (MOF) file C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Sharedsqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof. To proceed, see "Troubleshooting an Installation of SQL Server 2005" or "How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help documentation.
I have search through the forums. One of the possibilities is due to a WMI repository corruption. Tried fixing it, but the problem still persists. (Maybe I am doing it the wrong way , I have downloaded the WMIDiag scripts, not too sure if i ran it correctly).

Any suggestions on how to get SQL Server to install on Vista?
I have been trying to install BCM 07 and Accounting Pro 07 for a couple days now with the same SQL Server Express eroor. I've also attempted to install SQL Express sp2 alone to no avail either. Here is the log file from my last BCM install attempt. Any advise would be GREAT! I have already tried changing my PC name to CHARLIE which did not resolve it either. Thanks for the help! Charlie

I have no idea what the error is or how to fix it; I've enountered a number of postings related to install errors but none match exactly.
I do have the full log. Thanks in advance for any/all help!
Past one week I have been struggling to install SQL server express edition on my laptop which is preinstalled with Vista Basic. After it commences installation, it says the .net 2.0 on the system in corrupted.
Please let me know how to proceed ASAP... i have a project due for submission this week!
I have tried to install SQL Server 2005 Express several times with no success. I have followed the instructions to remove all SQL files on the Programs menu. Then, when I attempt to install it again, it only goes as far as the database where it stops and gives the error message: SQL Server cannot write system databases to C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData because it contains files from a previous installation. To continue, move the databases from the specified folder, or specify a different installation folder. Then run SQL Server Setup again.
It doesn't give options and I can only abort the installation.
Does anyone have a remedy for a technologically challenged person?
Steps to install SSX (& Reporting Serivces) on 64 bit Windows Vista Ultimate
I struggled quite a bit over the past few days to complete this install. The sequence of steps is less obvious than those for Windows XP Pro on a 32 bit machine.
I recorded all the steps in one place in cookbook style for non-technical (but database capable) users like myself. I have referenced appropriate other postings and sources for detail steps. These are steps I found useful, you may be in a different situation.
My environment is as follows: -New HP dv9000 w/ 2GHz and 2GB memory -Factory installed Windows Vista Ultimate. Note this includes .NET Framework 2.0 so I did not have to deal with installing that. -I have no extant databases or SQL Server that I am trying to convert or upgrade!
Setup Steps Before Install: 1) Turn off User Account Control. At present, I am a one-user operation with close control over my system and there seemed to be issues with getting reporting services set up right with UAC. I may come back and modify this step later on and certainly would change this for any releasable systems.
1a)Go to Control Panel Home --> User Accounts --> Turn User Account Control on or off. 1b)Unselect Use User Acount Control. 2)Set up your IIS 7.0 for Reporting Services. IIS 7.0 has IIS 6.0 Compatibility features turned off out of the box. You will turn them on with this step. This is needed for both Reporting services and to enable the Adminscripts that are used in Step 3 below.
2a) Use the Control Panel --> Programs --> Turn Windows features on and off function. This is quite nicely desribed with screen shots at: http://www.iis.net/default.aspx?tabid=2&subtabid=25&i=957 These steps worked for me although they are labeled Vista Beta 2.
3)Set up your 64 bit machine to run 32 bit ASP.NET This capability is needed to make sure you pass the System Configuration Check for Reporting Services. I don't know the full implications of this step and wonder if it might eventually bite me if I have to flip-flop between 32 and 64 bit ASP.NET or have them both run at the same time.
3a) Open a command line window by: Start --> Accessories -- Cmd Prompt 3b) In this window type: cscript %SystemDrive%inetpubAdminScriptsadsutil.vbs set w3svc/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 1
At some point, you may wish to go back to 64 bit. For that, see the posting by MihaelaE as an Answer in the SQL Server Reporting Services Forum under a thread started by fagster on 3/8/2007.
Now to actually install SQL Server.
1) Download the 64 bit SSX. This step fooled me for a while as the 64-bit downloads are 'below the fold' on the web page.
1a) Go to the SSX download page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/
1b) Scroll down the page and below Step 5, Register, you will see this text which takes you to the download you want: "* For the 64-bit install of SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, click here." 1c) Follow the "click here" to get the download.
2) Install the package from step 1c and you will get SQL Server Express.
2a) The install may fail and complain about not finding a valid SQL Server Native Client Install, sqlncli_x64.msi. You will have to extract the files manually and then run the sqlncli_64.msi package by itself. Then you can go back to step 2 and should be successful. To do this, see post of Mike Wachal on 4/5/2007 to SQL Server Express Forum, titled "Cannot Install SQL Server Express on Vista Ultimate -- cannot find MS SQL Server Native Client".
3) Now add in the SQL Server Management Studio Express 64 bit version.
3a) Go to the SSX download page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/
3b) Scroll down the page and below Step 5, Register you will see this text which takes you to the download you want: "* For the 64-bit install of SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express, click here."
3c) Follow the "click here" to get the download.
4) Now add the SQL Server Reporting Services.
4a) Go to the SSX download page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/
4b) Scroll to Step 3 Download and Install (in the middle of the page) and download SQL Server Express Edition with Advanced Services SP2. 4c) Install, but at the Feature Selection screen, disable all components EXCEPT Reporting Services. You already have the other components installed. 4d) In the install, you will get a screen called "Report Server Installation Options". Go ahead and select the "Install but do not configure the server" radio button.
5) Go ahead and configure SQL Server Reporting Services. I'm not highly skilled in this area so I recommend the SQL Server Express Video "Learning Video 10: Getting Started with Reporting Services". This is found at: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/learning/default.aspx I found this video to be cogent and useful.
That's what it took me to get SQL Server Express installed with reporting services on a 64 bit Vista Ultimate system. Sorry if this is so long but I wanted to cover all the steps that hung me up.
To forum moderators: If I have any errors that will lead people astray, I'm more than happy to correct them.
This posting is "AS IS" with no warrantees and caveat emptor.
I have Vista Home premium installed on my system. I installed SQL server 2005 express SP2. When I am trying to attach Advetureworks database by using following script, i get the following error.I am logged in as administrator. What kind of permission i have to set so that i can install the database.Any help will be appreciated.Script is :
Unable to open the physical file "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataAdventureWorksDW_Data.mdf". Operating system error 5: "5(Access is denied.)".
I am trying to install SQL Server Express - (the non ADV version) and get the following error.
"An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'sqlncli_x64.msi'".
I have 64 bit Vista Ultimate running on an HP dv9000.
I am using the download from the bottom of the download page for SSX where it says 64 bit version.
Prior to this I got the. "64-bit ASP.net is registered. Required 32-bit ASP.NET to install Microsoft Reporting services 2005(32-bit)." messagd during the pre-install scan. From what I gather in the posts, the reporting issue is different from my installation package problem.
I have been trying to prove a point to friends about how far you can go with SSX but am having no luck installing it. This whole process took 1 hour in XP but I've been stymied for 2 days.
I would appreciate being pointed at the right downloads for what seems to be a simple install.
I am unable to install 32-bit SQL Server Integration Services on the server due to something that was left behind by the 64-bit version.
I've uninstalled SQL Server 2005 64-bit and when I try to install the 32-bit version of Integration Services, I get this error: "Failed to install and configure assemblies C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL Server90DTSTasksMicrosoft.SqlServer.MSMQTask.dll in the COM+ catalog. Error: -2146233087 Error message: Unknown error 0x80131501 Error descrition: FATAL: Could not find component 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Task.MessageQueueTask.ServCompMQTask' we just installed."
I can't seem to figure out how to resolve this problem with the COM+ and I can't remember if Integration Services is required.
A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 233)

i have a vista basic running on my lappy,i have beeen trying to install either sql2000 or sql2005 on it for the past one month i keep getting funny errors like installshield engine has stopped working.WHile on the sql2005 the installation will exclude the database mangament studio ,etc..I had disabled the norton antivirus running to no effect.
I have an application written in VB6 that creates a ADO connection using the (native SQL2005 clien)t from the client to SQLServer 2005 on Server 2003 configured as a stand alone server. The application works great on XP and has for a number of years.
Now I am attempting to deploy in Vista and using the same code the connection speed CRAWLS. it's in the magnitude of atleast 10 times slower. It eventualy works but the selects and doing a readnext against the resulting record set is at a snails pace.
What am I missing. It's has to be some sort of configuration problem somewhere.
Hello, I have successfully installed two instances SQL Server 2005 Standard Ed. 64. and integration services (for the MSSQLSERVER instance). When I try to install SP2 x64 everything exept the Database services of the MSSQLSERVER instance was updated well.

Ok ive tried looking everywhere for a solution but i just cant find one... please help me
I need to install SQL Server 2005 (for reporting services mainly) on Vista, but i have issues.
I have installed IIS and its checked in the pre-installation checklist, and the only thing with an exclamation point is the OS which is to be expected.
The issue im having is that when i get to the screen to select the features/components i want to install, they are all disabled apart from "Workstation components, Books online etc..."
Where am i going wrong with this.. I know i need the services pack to install reporting services, but i cant install anything at this point.
A walkthrough or something would really help...
P.S Im running on Vista Ultimate and trying to install SQL Server 2005 Enterprise.
After SP1 install completes successfully, I checked the log file and next to all the products it shows "Not Applied" yet it seems to have worked. Can I ignore these messages?
I need to install SQL2000 onto a machine (W2K3 R2, SP2) that already has SQL2005, SP1 running. I can't disturb the SQL2005 installation.
Are there any problems or pitfalls to avoid? I've googled and looked on Technet but not yet found an answer.
Has anyone done this?
I know that if I install a separate instance of SQL2000 alongside a default installation of SQL2000 then I'll get a totally separate installation which won't affect the other one at all, so I reckon it could be done. But I have to be sure before I start!
I cannot complete the sql2k5 express update to sp2. I get the error no 1635. This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists... etc. The log file states the following.
I ran a test upgrade of sql 2005, sp1, to SP2, on a Windows 2003 server. After the upgrade (which seemed to work well) I got an additional information dialog box:
"By default, users on Windows Vista and later Operaitng systems are not members of the System Administrator role for the Sql or Analysis services. To add users to the System adminstrator role.. launch the sql 2005 User Provisioning Tool for Windows Vista after SP2 installation completes...."
Huh? Are users on any OS, be default, members of the sysadmin role?
While I am "glad" for the extra information, it seems irrelevant to the current situation.
I don't seem to be able to get AdventureWorksBI installed in Vista. I am running SQLServer 2005 sp2.
When I try to install I get an error: Error 1316 A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file <path>AdventureWorksBI[1].msi.
If I try to repair the install, I get the message Error 1321: The installer has insufficient privileges to modify the file C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataAdventureWorksDW_data.mdf
My login has administrator privileges. I have installed and uninstalled for days, so I am not certain what I have mucked up in my registry.
Perhaps the AdventureworksDW examples don't work in Vista? Do I need to wipe the drive and install XP?
