Can't Regenerate Model For A Cube-Connection

Hello all,
I created an analysis-services model with reporting services (by defining an ssas-datasource and click "generate model").
Now every time the cube model changes I go to the model-defintion and click "regenerate model" which works fine.
Today I exported the model (just to see what's in there) and reimported the same file.
After that the button "Regenerate Model" has been gone - and I need to refresh my model - any suggestions how to do that. (deleting and creating a new one is no possibilty as we have already existing reports which depends on the guid-numbers of this model).
Any help would be appreciate!

Say there are two tables like the ones above.. We need to know if a report model can be built so that we can build reports where the details from the first table will be shown and when the user clicks on the Month (Say Jan) details for Jan Should be pulled from the second table, something like a drilldown would also be fine.
Now, with our understanding here makes us feel that it can't be done with a report model but is possible with Report Desinger. We need to know if it is possible to have such an implementation with a report model when a cube is built or not even with a cube. Any inputs, suggestion, explanations, references, code samples, etc.. etc.. would be of GREAT HELP.

I am thinking of a possible design where the cube will never go offline.
Usually when I do some code changes on my cube the cube goes offline and I need to Full Process it again to get it back .
However , in cases where the cube is extremely critical for the business users , it would be great if I can deliver a solution where the cube never goes down.

hi,
I try to generate ad hoc reporting model for analysis services cube in reporting services.
in Management Studio I connected to reporting services, defined a data source to the analysis services database.
But If i try to generate model i get the error:
"While connection with a data source a mistake has appeared, or the query is invalid for the data source. (rsCannotPrepareQuery)(Report Services SOAP Proxy Source)"
Any ideas as to what may be the problem?

Hi,
I have built two perspectives in a cube. Let's say: Sales and Projects. When I open my cube in Excel 2007 and I choose to open the perspective 'Sales' I see all sales related dimensions and attributes. When I open the perspective Projects I see all projects related dimensions and attributes.
So far so good...
But now I generated a report model from the cube. When I start reportbuilder I can choose between three perspectives, because the total cube is added as an perspective as well. Looks pretty good, and now I open the sales perspective, but...
I see al the entities in the model, even the ones from the 'projects' perspective! It doesn't have all the functionality though, but it is visible with all the entritbutes.
I hope somebody knows the solution to this problem. Thanks in advance.

Hi all,
I am new to SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services and would like to use the OLAP Cubes as a datasource to build Mining Model . However i would like to use a particular view of the OLAP cube that i have generated to be used as the datasource for the mining model . I find that i am not able to save the Cube View while browsing the OLAP cube in Business Intelligence Studio. Is there a way i can acheive this requirement.
Any ideas regarding this will be really appreciated.

I am trying to add a calculated field / column in Report Builder when working with a Report Model built from anAnalysis Services Cube. I can create the calculated Field/Columns, but I get an error whenever I try to use it in a report.
Is there a way to create a report builder calculated column on report models built from a SSAS cube? Is this supported?

Hi,
I am receiving the following error when I run the report builder query. I am able to successfully select the dimensions and measures that I am intrested in but when I run the report I get the error message.
The 'PerspectiveID' custom property for the 'query' perspective is either not set or is not set to the string data type.

----------------------------
Query execution failed for data set 'dataSet'.
----------------------------
An error has occurred during report processing.
I am testing this against both Adventureworks standard and enterprise cubes. Additionality I saw a post in this forum

Hi,
In our project we have alot of packages whice not created from scratch (copy&paste from other similar package).
now i see that the package id is the same like the other to fix this i've Regenerate the package ID .
but the task id is read-only.
is there a way to Regenerate the task id to multiple packages??
what is the best solution i have more than 220 packages in my project.

In Report Designer I am able to create a Model data source and see my entities/fields.
But when I run the report I get a "Failed to execute Query" message.
I know in the past this was an issue because Designer doesn't allow you to specify a perspective.
Does anyone know if this has been resolved?
I'm using SP2

I believe that I may have inadvertingly reset a field attribute to have caused this condition. Ironocally, I have the same set of database installed on another server, and the this does not happen.
I forgot to mention that I am using Report Manager to deploy the reports.
Please assist.

I've created a simple cube following the below link, but when I try to deploy the cube I am getting the below error.

I tried to connect from SSMS to analysis service, (Connect - > Analysis Services ) I am still getting the below error. I saw the SQL browser is running.
One more strange thing I noticed is, in the services I do not see the Analysis Services ( Screen attached below)....

I've just created a reporting model to use with my reports.
I have deployed the model to my localhost reporting server.
The name of my model is : mod_agentreporting
Can someone give me the right connection string that i have to use ?
Is there any advantage for using reporting models as datasources for reports
or a shared data sources ?

Hi,
I'm trying to deploy a Report Model to my local machine that contains an ODBC connection to an iSeries Access ODBC Driver. The system DSN is already setup on my PC, named exactly the same. The data set views and report models create and build succesfully but when I try to deploy using BIDS I get an error description "System.Data.Odbc" for the dataset file and the model.
I can't really see anything substantial in the log files, although not sure what one I should be looking in.
Any help gratefully received

I am just starting out using CUBEMEMBER/CUBEVALUE formulas in excel linked into a sql olap db - using this method for some custom reports where pivot tables are not suitable.
The time dimension values include Months, Quarters and Years and the CUBEMEMBER formulas like
=CUBEMEMBER("OLAPCUBE","[Time].[Time].[Year].&[2015].&[1].&[1]") work fine - 1st quarter 1st month etc.
Is there a straightforward notation to aggregate months or do I need to use a plus sign to add a number of CUBEMEMBER formulas together.In other words - Is there an easier way of for say jan to july 2015 totals than
=CUBEMEMBER("OLAPCUBE","[Time].[Time].[Year].&[2015].&[1]") + (CUBEMEMBER("OLAPCUBE","[Time].[Time].[Year].&[2015].&[2]")) + (CUBEMEMBER("OLAPCUBE","[Time].[Time].[Year].&[2015].&[3].&[7]"))
I haven't tested this but have assumed it works but a bit long and clumsy.

I have problems creating a cube with AMO.
I can add the cube to the database object and fill it with dimensions and a measuregroup (see code below).
If I call cube.Update() it says something like "Error in meta data manager. Cube has no measuregroups." (getting the message in german language)
The error in Microsoft.AnalysisServices.OperationException.Results.Messages is -1055653629
I can't find any documentation about this (or any other) error code in Microsoft documentation.
Here's my Code:

newCube.Language = 1031;

When I make a call to GetSchemaDataset with a restriction of a cube name with a space in the name of the cube the call fails. Following is a sample of the code: adoRestriction = new AdomdRestriction("CATALOG_NAME", "Contoso Telecom_Contoso"); adoRestrictions.Add(adoRestriction); dataSet = conn.GetSchemaDataSet("MDSCHEMA_CUBES", adoRestrictions); I am running SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services SP2. Is there some way to qualify the cube name in the restriction or is this just a bug? Thanks.

I need to develop a language specific dwh, meaning that descriptions of products are available from a SAP system in multiple languages. English is the most important language and that is the standard. But, there are also requirements of countries that wants productdescriptions in their language.

One option is to column the descriptions, but that is not very elegantly. I was thinking of using bridge tables to model this but you have to always select a language in a filter (I think)..
I'm thinking of a technical solution, such that when a user logs on, the language is determined and a view determines whether to pick a certain product table specific for a certain language. But then I don't have the opportunity to interchange the different language specific fields in a report (or in my case PowerPivot).

We have the following scenario,
We have our Production server having database on which Few DTS packages execute every night. Most of them have Bulk Insert stored procedures running.
SO we have to set Recovery Model of the database to simple for that period of time, otherwise it will blow up our logs.
Is there any way we can set up log shipping between our production and standby server, but pause it for some time, set recovery model of primary db to simple, execute DTS Bulk Insert Jobs, Bring it Back to Full recovery Model AND finally bring back Log SHipping.
It it possible, if yes how can we achieve this.
If not what could be another DR solution in this scenario.

Hi all,
I have MS Time Seeries model using a database of over a thousand products each of which has hundreds of cases. It amazingly takes only a few minutes to finish processing the model, but when I click Mining Model Viewer to view the models, it takes many hours to show up. Once the window is open, I can choose model for different products almost instantly. Is this normal?

hi !!i have a question about the connected and disconnected model to access the Sql server DB.......i know that there is better to choose one rather than the other in some situantions and there is no better model in all cases...... os i hope you can help me to decide what shall i choose...i will use the DB to connect to Web services and read data from the DB and wrtie some data back.......i do not know that to use ..... i hope you advise me and tell me about the rules that will allow me to choose what model to choose .... i appreciate your help!!Thanks !!!

I get the following error when I try to load the mining model in the mining model viewer
Query (1, 6) The '[System].[Microsoft].[AnalysisServices].[System].[DataMining].[NeuralNet].[GetAttributeValues]' function does not exist.
I get a similar error when I try to load the Load Mining Accuracy Chart
Failed to execute the query due to the following error:
Query (1, 6) The '[System].[Microsoft].[AnalysisServices].[System].[DataMining].[AllOther].[GenerateLiftTableUsingDatasource]' function does not exist.
I have OWC 11 installed. What am I missing here?

I added a connection (ADO.NET) object by name testCon in the connection manager - I wanted to programmatically supply the connection string. So I used the "Expressions" property of the connection object and set the connectionstring to one DTS variable. The idea is to supply the connection string value to the variable - so that the connection object uses my connection string.
Then I added a "Backup Database Task" to my package with the name BkpTask. Now whenever I try to set the connection property of BkpTask to the testCon connection object, by typing testCon, it automatically gets cleared. I am not able to set the connection value.
Then after spending several hours I found that this is because I have customized the connection string in testCon. If I don't customize the connection string, I am able to enter the "testCon" value in the connection property of the BkpTask.
Is this an intrinsic issue?

I have a package that uses a for loop to iterate through an unknown amount of excel files and pull their data into a table. However, there will be cases when the file is corrupted or has some sort of problem so that either the transformation will fail or the excel data source will fail with an oledb connection error.
Could anyone suggest a clean way to trap these errors? Specifically, the "Cannot Aquire Connection from Connection Manager", which is the excel connection.

I have an archieve cube as .cab file and i have restored my cube into analysis server , but i am not able to browse the datain the cube. My doubt is- Does the cube contains data with it to browse or not? or we have to explicitly enter data at the sql query analyser.

Hi ALL,
Just started researching Analysis Services product, and am playing w/ foodmart db (located on my C: drive) and creating cubes and dimensions, etc.
My problem is that I cannot browse any dimensions once they are created. For exampe, for a dimension called product I am getting an error message, "Unable to browse the dimension 'product'. Unspecified error"
Can anyone offer help?

a.A CUBE query with Grouping used to distinguish Null values.
b.A CUBE query showing a multidimensional cube.
c.A CUBE query created using a view. For this problem you must not only create your view but query it and display the results.
5.Create one example of a query using COMPUTE and one example of a query using COMPUTE BY. These queries should use the table you created in problem #1 Provide output showing your SELECT statements and the resulting output rows.
