Can't View Table Design Or Return All Rows
Jul 30, 2000
Help, is something wrong with my SL Server? I am unable to return any rows from all tables in all databases (user and system)on My SQL 7.0 SP2 machine. Whne i right click on the table in E.M and select design or open table i get no results. Does anyone know why this is happening? It did not always happen either.
Thanks

How to design at database level such a way so that when I implement a SQL query that returns one hundred thousand rows only display 25 rows at the client (Web page at a time). How can I accomplish this?
Once I display first 25 rows then how do I bring next 25 rows and so on. Can it be done via paging or there are other techniques. However I asked to design this in the database level. I am using MS SQL Server 2008. Front end Visual Studio 2010. I use C# for coding.

I am using SQL 2014 RTM (may be it's time to upgrade).
I have the following view:
create view [dbo].[SiriusV_Max4SaleList]
as
select m.id as Max4SaleId,
mt.[Description] as [TypeDescription],
CAST(m.[type] as tinyint) as [Type],
m.start_time as [StartTime],
m.end_time as [EndTime],
[Code] ....
I am thinking I may want to remove CAST for department, category, item later on as I don't really care if these columns would be defined as key for my EF model, but I do want to search by these columns. Anyway, this is my current view.
I executed the following select statement once
select * FROM dbo.siriusv_max4saleList where department like 's%' or category like 's%' or item like 's%'
And I believe I got 29 rows initially. However, when I execute this statement now I'm getting just 13 rows. If I execute just the department like 's%' I am getting 0 rows although I can see in the first result a row where department has s in in.
I guess I keep it here since I've created the message already but now I figured out why I am not getting the expected result. I used the condition like 's%' and not like '%s%' which application is doing.

Given the following data how do I make a SQL query that returns only 1 row per product?
The returned rows need consist of only currently active products (that is WHERE (DateEffective <= { fn NOW() }).
The twist: Sometimes a product will have duplicate DateEffective records. In that case, only return the record created latest because that's the most current data that exists for a product. RowTimeStap is when the record was created.
Example Data:
HistoryID ProductID Name Color DateEffective RowTimeStamp
(auto-number PK)
1 1 Wheel Red 2/1/2008 2/1/2008
2 1 Wheel Blue 3/5/2008 3/1/2008
3 1 Wheel Orange 3/5/2008 3/2/2008
4 1 Wheel Black 1/1/2010 3/3/2008
5 2 Knob Blue 3/2/2008 3/2/2008
6 2 Knob Green 3/3/2008 3/3/2008
Query should return:
3 1 Wheel Orange 3/5/2008 3/2/2008
5 2 Knob Green 3/3/2008 3/3/2008
The query I've created fails on the twist part. I have to allow duplicate DateEffective to keep a history of changes.
Can anyone help?

Some automated tools use sp_columns to find out the columns for a table, view or UDF that returns table.
In SQL Server 2000 it gives columns back but in SQL Server 2005 it does not, compat level set at 80 and 90.
Does anyone have an idea what id going on here?
Repro script below. I expect the script to return information about the two columns in the table defined in fnTestColumnsFromFunctions().
if exists (select 1
from sysobjects
where id = object_id('dbo.fnTestColumnsFromFunctions')
and type in ('IF', 'FN', 'TF'))
drop function dbo.fnTestColumnsFromFunctions;
go
create function dbo.fnTestColumnsFromFunctions()
returns @TestTable table
(
ttID int,
ttName varchar(50)
)
as
begin
return;
end
go
declare @dbname sysname;
declare @n int;
set @dbname = db_name();
exec @n = dbo.sp_columns
@table_name = 'fnTestColumnsFromFunctions',
@table_owner = 'dbo',
@table_qualifier = @dbname,
@column_name = null,
@ODBCVer = 2;
if exists (select 1
from sysobjects
where id = object_id('dbo.fnTestColumnsFromFunctions')

Hi, my name's John and this is my first post here at SQL team. I've learnt a lot from the forums here, never needed to post though. I'm pretty good at sql, but not that good and I think for the first time in couple of years I now have a query that I'm completely unable to create.
Let me explain the setup.
I've got three tables e.g.
Products (productid, Name)
100 Computer
200 Printer
300 PDA
ProductActions (ID, Name)
6 changed casing
8 Changed motherboard
7 replaced cd-drive
ProductPerformedActions (productid, actionid)
100,7
100,9
200,8
This basically shows a simple setup showing that product (computer) has been done the action "repaired" and product (printer) has been done the action "changed motherboard". The query i'd like to have is where I can select all products that have not been performed on cerrtain actions. e.g. a list of products that have not been performed on all actions, such as
UnPerformedActionsList(product,actionid)
PDA,6
PDA,7
PDA,8
Printer,7
Printer,6
Computer,8
I know its foundation is something like this:
select productid from products where productid not in
(select productid from productperformedactions....
which elimiantes products that have been performed an action on, but it also removes it for ALL actions,
which i'm trying to avoid. All i want is kind of a cross join, listing all actions, then inverting it, to show
all products that have NOT had it performed on them.
I hope this makes sense.
Thanks
John

I have several databases to deal with, all with + 250 tables. The databases are not identical and do not conform to a specific naming convention for table names. Most but not all tables have a column called "LastUpdated" containing a date/time (obviously). I'd like to be able to find all rows within a whole database (table by table) where the date/time is greater than a specified date/time.
I'm looking for a reliable query that will return all the rows in each of the tables but without me having to write hundreds of individual scripts "SELECT * FROM [dbo.xyz] WHERE LastUpdated > '2015-01-01 09:00:00:000'", or have to look through each table first to determine which of them has the LastUpdated field.

I've been searching the forums and Google for some help splitting up rows in a table without any luck. I'm not quite sure what to even look for
I have a table is MSSQL 2000 that looks as follows:
Code:
id custnum b1_email b2_email b1_sub b2_sub
------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 123456 b1@host1.com b2@host1.com 0 0
2 654321 b1@host2.com b2@host2.com 1 0
3 321654 b1@host3.com b2@host3.com 0 1
Now... I am hoping create a view that splits these rows up so that only a single email address is on each row. I'd like to split it up as follows:
Code:
custnum email sub
----------------------------------
123456 b1@host1.com 0
123456 b2@host1.com 0
654321 b1@host2.com 1
654321 b2@host2.com 0
321654 b1@host3.com 0
321654 b2@host3.com 1
Any help would be great! I imagine some sort of join command can be constructed using a single table?

I have a simple query that joins a largeish fact table (3 million rows) to a view that returns 120 rows. The SKEY in the view is returned via a scalar function. The view returns instantly if queried on it's own however when joined to the fact table in the simple query below results in a query execution plan that runs forever. Interestingly if I change the INNER JOIN to a LEFT OUTER JOIN the query returns the matched results almost instantly.
Select
Dimension.Age_Band.[10_Year_Age_Band],
Count(*)
From
Fact.APC_Episodes
Inner Join Dimension.Age_Band ON
Fact.APC_Episodes.AGE_BAND_SKEY = Age_Band.AGE_BAND_SKEY
Group By
Dimension.Age_Band.[10_Year_Age_Band]
I know joining to a view using a column generated by a scalar function is not a good recipe for performance. I also know that I could fix this by populating a physical table with the view first as I have already tested this though I hoping not to have to go down that route.
Why a LEFT OUTER JOIN works and not an INNER JOIN or anyway I can get the query optimizer to generate an execution plan that works?

Hi i tried designing a SSIS package which loads only those rows which were different from existing rows in the table , i need to timestamp the existing row with an inactive date when a update of that row is inserted (ex: same studentID )
and the newly inserted row with a insert time stamp
so as to indicate the new row as currently active, in short i need to maintain history and current rows in same table , i tried using slowly changing dimension but could not figure out, anyone experience or knowledge regarding the Data loads please respond.
example of Data would be like
exisiting data
StudentID Name AGE Sex ADDRESS INSERTTIME UPDATETIME
12 DDS 14 M XYZ ST 2/4/06 NULL
14 hgS 17 M ABC ST 3/4/07 NULL
New row to insert would be
12 DDS 15 M DFG ST 4/5/07
the data should reflect
StudentID Name AGE Sex ADDRESS INSERTTIME UPDATETIME
12 DDS 14 M XYZ ST 2/4/06 4/5/07
12 DDS 15 M DFG ST 4/5/07 NULL
14 hgS 17 M ABC ST 3/4/07 NULL
Please provide your input as much as you can even though it might not be a 100% solution.

Hi All,
I am using sql server 2005. I stuck out in a strange problem.
I am using view in my stored procedure, when I run the stored procedure some of the rows get skipped out means if select query have to return 10 rows then it is returning 5 rows or any other but not all, also the records displyaing is randomly coming, some time it is displaying reords 12345 next time 5678, other time 2468.
But if I run seperately the querys written in SP then it returns all the rows. Please give me solution why it is happening like this.
There are indexes in the tables.
Once I shrink the database and rebuild the indexes, from then this problem is happening. I have rebuild the indexes several time, also updated the statistics but nothing improving.

hi
suppose that i have 2 tables:
TBCars(Keep information about one car like model,plaqueNo, owner,...)
&
TBServices(keep service information,like serviceType,serviceDate,..)
in this system, when a car for a first time enter to this system, i insert 1 record for it into TBCar, from second time, every time this car enter to system, one record inserted into TBServices(that refer to 1 record in TBCar,1-& relationship).
now i build a VIEW with these fields:
IDCar,Model,PlaqueNo,Owner,ServiceType,ServiceDate
the expected result from this view, return n record that n is number of records in TBServices. but i want 1 record in result for every car in TBCar.
in this result grid, serviceDate & serviceType is the last record inserted into TBServices.
& i want records in TBCars that dont have any child in TBServices come into my VIEW.

Even though I select "Column Names" in Design View when creating a query (or view), only "* (All Columns)" appears in the table box.
In InfoPath, when I connect a combo-box, err drop down box, to the database, I am unable to connect directly to a table... no tables are shown. If I select a different database, these problems do not exist.
I can not find any setting to allow these columns to be shown in the design view or any setting that will "expose" the tables in InfoPath.
I tried creating a new database and exporting the data, tables and data, from the troubled DB to the new DB; however, the new DB exhibited the same behaviour. The system tables, Master and Model, have the same behaviour. Please help me with your ideas and suggestions... thank you very much for your time.
This database was upsized from Access 2003 to SQL Server 2000 SP4.

I'm using SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Studio. I have a view that I'd like to index. Obviously, that requires that the view be schema bound to the underlying table. I have found myriad explanations for how to programmatically create a schema bound view, but I've never created a view like that before, and since I'm more a mechanical engineer than a database manager, I'd like to be able to do it the 'easy' way, by just creating the view in Management Studio by going to the database, right clicking on 'Views', clicking on 'New View...' and then, hopefully, checking some box somewhere that schema binds the table to the view.

Good morning all,
I have searched everywhere for this and I can't find any information on it. When I use the Query Builder, in the top pane, the Filter pane, there are five columnsimension, Hierarchy, Operator, Filter Expession and Parameters.
In the dropdown for Operator, one of the choices is MDX. I cannot find any documentation on how to use this operator. I want to limit my filter to SELF_AND_AFTER, and I am hoping that this is possible using this operator. I know how to hand code it, but I have a ton of other tweaks to make to the query, so I want to use the Query Designer as much as I can.
Does anyone have any links to documentation on how to use this operator?
Thanks,
Kathryn
