I have a report that uses different datasets based on the year selected by a user.
I have a year_id parameter that sets a report variable named dataset_chosen. I have varified that these are working correctly together.
I have attempted populating table cell data to display from the chosen dataset. As yet to no avail.
How could I display data from the dataset a user selects via the year_id options?
I have the following problem:
in a data flow, if inserting new records, there are columns that take some default values. These default values are kept in a table in case the user wants to change them some day. Def. values could not be assigned at a table level because there's another dataflow that populates the same table, but the rules for the default values are different.
Since I want to extract these values only if there is at least one new row, I'm not fond of the idea to use Execute SQL Task (to save the default values in a variable) before the actual Data Flow. What are my options in getting these values in a Data Flow right before inserting? Thank you for the help.
I'm using the designer to create/modify strongly typed datasets. I have one select statement that I'm having considerable trouble with. The user selects search parameters from a form. These search parameters are used to filter the data sent to a gridview control. Three of these parameters are almost enough to make me abandon the dataset in this case.The first two are minimum and maximum age. I have a birth date field, but not an age field - ages have a habit of changing without user intervention <grin> and can be calculated. I could, but I would have to modify all the pages that add or edit records to the database to insure all the records that have birth dates also have the right sign. I'm leaning in that direction, but is it possible to accept a sign as a parameter and calculate, based on the birth date, which records qualify? I need to get the age issue fixed. The sign is a nice to have, since I can do it another way if I have to. BTW: I did decide to abandon the dataset in favor of a SqlDataSource control. This allowed me to build my select string in the code behind the way I would have in ASP. This resulted in paging and sorting not working properly. Sorting would be nice, paging is necessary. I'm pretty sure going back to the dataset or using a stored procedure would fix the paging problem, and I've yet to work with stored procedures (it's on my list of things to learn). Any comments or feedback on this would be avidly read and appreciated.Diane

I have been reading about how you shouldn't build dynamic SQL statements (see TextBox1.Text in line 3) and should use parameters instead, but I haven't yet found how to create a SELECT statement with a parameter that fills a dataset. If anyone can show me the correct way of doing this I would appreciate it so I can add it to my code snippets for proper coding practices. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

OK, trying to return the results from two SQL statements into a DataSet using SqlDataAdapter. The SELECT statements query the same table but are looking for different records based on the date that the records were inserted - the 1st query looks for records fro the current month and the 2nd one looks at the same records but for the previous month. The goal is to be able to do some math within a repeater and get the difference between the two records.
Sounds easy enough and it has worked for me in different variations of the same idea but not this time - here's the code:

Sorry if it wrapped a bit. The "rD" and "oldRD" are the variables for the date ranges (currently set to static numbers for testing). I'm getting the following error when I run this on an ASP.Net page:
System.Web.HttpException: DataBinding: 'System.Data.DataRowView' does not contain a property with the name 'startTimes'.
The code works fine when run via the Query Tool on the SQL server (SQL 2005 Std) though it produces two distinct "tables" which I'm guessing is the problem. I've tried variations on the code including creating a 2nd dataset and then attempting a merge (no joy) and I've tried the ".TableName" route but it complains about trying to add the tablename twice.
Thoughts? I need to get this to work - it is part of a reporting component for an application that I'm developing and I'm stuck. Thanks as always...

I need to call one of two stored procedures depending on which parameters were passed to the report. (Both stored procedures return the same fields.)
Does SQL Reporting Services allow you to switch the dataset or stored procedure name dynamically? If so, where do I put the logic? Right now I have it working with one stored procedure.
I'm thinking that I should just make one stored procedure that takes all parameters and calls one of the other two stored procedures. Do I have any options besides this?

I am working on a company sign out sheet for our Intranet. The application accesses a sql database. I tried using a datareader as well as a dataset to access a small piece of information regarding the group that each employee belongs to in the company. My last attempt was to assign the value to the text property of a text box and evaluate the text from the text box with the Select Case but that did not work either.The application is supposed to generate an email to our receptionist as well as to the group technical assistant responsible for each group according to the value that is passed into the Select Case statement. With the datareader as well as the dataset and even now with creating a text box and accessing the text property, I was able to assign the group value to a variable (I can see the value in the subject of the email), but when the variable is supposed to be evaluated by the select case statement it skips right through all of the cases to case else and uses only the receptionist's address in the email as if it doesn't even see the value of the variable. I have searched for a possible answer to the problem I am but so far have had no luck. Any ideas? I have a SP that return a dataset and I was thinking to execute that SP inside of other SP then catch the dataset to put into a variable or put into a temp table. What I know is you can not use recordset on output and input parameter in SP correct me if im wrong. I'm just wondering if I there is a work around in this scenario.

I have 4 sets of select queries under 1 stored proc, now on the report calling the stored proc via dataset. when i run the dataset the only first set of the select query related fields appearing under the dataset.
But on the back end sql server, if i execute the same stored proc, i get 4 resultsets in one single executioln.
i am not seeing the remaingin 3 resultsets, on the reports dataset.
Is it possible on the reports or not.
In the asp.net project i was able to use that kind of stored procedures whcih has multiple select statements in 1 procedure., i use to refer 0,1,2,3 tables under a dataset.

I want to select a subset of data from a dataset returned by either another subquery or a union.
e.g. this is how i would do it in oracle, but i have no idea how this can be done in mssql or whether it's possible at all.

)
where col1 = 'blah'
in essence oracle treats the data returned by the subquery as a table that it would select from.
how would i do the same in mssql?

This query works fine for obtaining the Criminal table data, but once i've include CrimeCommitted.Country in the SELECT statement, the data returned contained all the crimes committed by each criminal (i just need the latest crime).
The query doesn't work when another table, other than Criminal, is selected. How can i obtain the columns in the CrimeCommitted table in this query?
I've only been doing sql 2005 for a couple of months with minimal training so there's a lot I don't know.
What I'm trying to do is load a nested table (industry & customer totals) based on a value from the table it's nested in.
This is the relationship of the data.
I have at the highest group, an industry code, then a customer, then the part and then the fiscal year.
What I'm trying to accomplish is to get a group total (footer) for the (1) industry code and (2) the customer code. This footer would contain the fiscal years (ascending) and their monthly totals. I would like to take the industry code from table one and pass it to the select statement in the dataset that feeds the nested table. I've read this is not possible to load a dataset field into a parm but I've seen where some people know how to work around this. If you reply, please explain in simple terms. Thanks!

Dataset1 pulls property id's and other sales data from a table (2014_COST) based on the user's parameters. I have set up another table (AUDITS) that I would like to use in dataset6. This table has 3 columns (Property ID's, Sales Price and Sales Date). I would like for dataset6 to pull the Property ID's that are NOT contained in the results from dataset1. In other words, I'd like the results of dataset6 to show me the property id's that are contained in the AUDITS table but which are not being pulled into dataset1. My situation is this...
I have a dataset that has values to fill cells to multiple tables in a report.
However, I only want to select specific data from the dataset to fill textboxes and others.
I cannot change the stored procedure, but the sample of the data is shown below:-

I know it looks weird, but the row really represents which "row" or textbox is it to fill with the Val. The Stat Column is just a way to make sure that I am filling the right values.
so my new report would have multiple tables to denote different categories.
In my first table, I tried putting the cells as follows:-

Is there anyway to do this ? print all the values out in one table ? I tried using textboxes, but I think I got my expression wrong.

I have a stored procedure attached below. It returns 2 rows in the SQL Management studio when I execute MyStorProc 0,28. But in my program which uses ADOHelper, it returns a dataset with tables.count=0.
if I comment out the line --If @Status = 0 then it returns the rows. Obviously it does not stop in
if @Status=0 even if I pass @status=0. What am I doing wrong?

D2 is a list of data. each row in D2 has a classid. D2 may or may not have all the classids in D1. all classids in D2 must be in D1.
I want to show fields in D2 and group the data with classids in D1 and show every group as a seperate table. If no data in D2 is available for a classid, It shows a empty table.

if user select all, i'll send 0 to @icompany then I need to select all records.
question 1. How can I get all records? (i think about this query select * from companyid <> 0)
if user select for example companyid = 1, i'll send 1 to @icompany and the query work fine.
question 2. How can I change the query to adopt this 2 condition?

I am faced with a common situation but there is a little twist that makes it unique and has me stumped. Hopefully someone can point me to a solution or give me enough guidance to figure it out.
Here is the situation, I am loading an XML file into a Dataset and need to update SQL tables from that Dataset but the tables are slightly different than in the DataSet. I am using C#, asp.net 2.0, visual studio 2005 and sql server 2005.
When I loaded the XML into the Dataset, the Dataset contained 19 tables. I individually loaded each table from the Dataset and determined from that which tables I needed and didn't need as well as determinined which fields I needed or not. I used this information to create my SQL tables.
Briefly, when creating the SQL tables, I used the dataset table name as the SQL table name and used the same column names as well. the only difference from the Dataset tables and SQL tables is 1 column has a different name (or to be more specific, a column exists in the datset that does not exist in the sql table and a column exists in the SQL table that does not exist in the dataset table). Also, some tables in the dataset do not exist in the sql Database.
I know that I can spin through each row of the tables I need in the Dataset and create an insert command from the row data and insert that into the SQL table but I have 11 tables to do that with. I would like to take advantage of ADO.NET and push the datset information into sql data but I am confused on how to do this.
I am confused because not all tables in the dataset are represented in the sql database and though the tablenames and most of the columns have the same name, it is not an exact fit.
Can anyone point me to a solution or give me a good game plan that I can search on to help me load my dataset info to a sql DB.

I am using the following stored procedure, but as it is now it returns 2 datasets. I need it to return only 1.

Would anyone have any suggestions on how to modify this procedure so that it returns only one dataset, but yet still keeps the data seperated? Or is this even possible?

im developing an application, and want to know some pro's and con's with using a dataset or using direct connection to database...
also a breif description of what a dataset is would be very handy...
