Can I Use Reporting Services 2005 Reports On An ASP.NET Page Created With Visual Studio 2003?

Oct 15, 2007

Hello,

I've seen this question floating around, but I have not been able to find a definitive answer.

Can this be done, and if so, what do I need to install into Visual Studio 2003?

Thank you.

Refresh A Report On Page Load??(Reporting Services 2000, Visual Studio 2003)

May 2, 2008

Hi,

I'm still quite a beginner with the Report Designer and now I have faced a problem. My goal is to make a reports refresh each time it is loaded. I know that this can be done by using rs:clearsession = true-method but in order this to work, it should be added to each link. There are a lots of links in the reports we are using and therefore it would be more practical to find another way to refresh the report on page load. Is there any way to do this with some kind of code attached to each report? I'm using Visual Studio 2003 and my Reporting services 2000.

Connection Timeout In Visual Studio 2005(Reporting Services)

Oct 26, 2007

Hello.

I am having problems with a couple of queries in the Development Studio (Reporting Services 205). I am working on a report that runs a lot of functions so I expect it to be slow. But it times out in 30 seconds.

Error Message: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.

The report finishes when clicking on the preview tab but not when on the data tab. If finishes fine when deployed as well. Is there a way to increase the amount of time the query designer in Visual Studio takes to time out on a query?

I have tried setting the Connect Timeout=60 on the Data Source but it seems to be overridden by a setting in Visual Studio 2005.

Thanks much for any help.

Visual Studio 2005 - Reporting Services 2005 Access Import Error

Oct 22, 2007

I am trying to import Access reports using Visual Studio 2005 and Access 2007. SQL Server 2005 with Reporting Services is also installed. I select Reports in the Solution Explorer and then Import Reports... Microsoft Access and browse to my Access database. After I select the database I see it open briefly as if it is trying to import the reports but then Access quickly closes and a error pops up: "You already have the database open." I have checked and double checked and the database is not open. I have even tried several different databases and the same errror occurs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SQL/CLR Debugging Hangs On Visual Studio 2003 And SQL 2005

Feb 5, 2008

I am unable to debug code from a SQL Database Project using the CLR. After VS 2005 does the auto-attaching to the SQL server, VS hangs until I tell it to stop debugging. Many others have reported this as a similar problem, however this only seems to affect me when I€™m connecting to specific servers. Specifically it seems to be remote connections. When I attempt to connect to my SQL 2005 Developer Edition €ślocally€? I get right through and can debug.
From my VS output window:

Auto-attach to process '[1688] [SQL] gx620-eric' on machine 'gx620-eric' succeeded.

Debugging script from project script file.

testing

No rows affected.

(0 row(s) returned)

Finished running sp_executesql.

The thread 'gx620-eric [59]' (0x1730) has exited with code 0 (0x0).

The thread 'gx620-eric [59]' (0x1730) has exited with code 0 (0x0).

The thread 'gx620-eric [59]' (0x1730) has exited with code 0 (0x0).

The program '[1688] [SQL] gx620-eric: gx620-eric' has exited with code 0 (0x0).

When I attempt to connect to a remote server running Enterprise Edition, it hangs after a successful attach.

Auto-attach to process '[1856] [SQL] virtual2003eric' on machine 'virtual2003eric' succeeded.

Sometimes after countless attempts, I am able to get this to work, but lately I have had no success. As far as the SQL Server side, enabling and disabling the CLR through the Surface Area Configuration seems to be the only place to do anything relative to the CLR inside SQL server.

I have firewalls disabled. All SQL Servers presently have both SQL 2005 SP2 and Visual Studio 2005 SP1 installed.

I€™ve tried restarting servers and services, checking and un-checking €śAllow SQL/CLR Debugging€? and those steps did not work for me.

Does anyone have any insight on this one? Any ideas on how I can further debug this one?

Thanks.

Eric

Can I Use MS SQL Server Express 2005 In Visual Studio 2003?

Aug 3, 2007

I have been experiencing troubles since I was decided to install SQL Server Expr 2005 in my PC, first I needed to remove the .NET framework 1.1 in my computer because it is suggested before installing sql server expr 2k5 that cause my vs.net 2003 to stop loading because sql express runs in .NET framework 2.0 and vs.net 2003 is in .Net Framework 1.1 then what I did is to install .Net Framework 1.1 in my PC together with .Net Framework 2.0 and my vs.net started runnning again.

My problem now is when I try to connect to a database using Data Link Properties in the Server Explorer it says "[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen](Connect()).]Sql server does not exist or access denied." how could this happen if I can see the sql server in the Server Explorer in my VS.net environment?

Please somebody help me I am just learning to this language and I think I cannot proceed to the next few chapters remaining because of this.

Thank you very much!

SQL 2005 Express And Visual Studio 2003 - Connecting

Jul 20, 2006

I have Visual Studio 2003 and had used it successfully with MSDE. I recently upgraded to SQL 2005 Express and cannot seem to connect to the SQL server. it appears in the list of servers on localhost, but when I try to create a new database it tells me that it "cannot create databases on this server." It will not even open up any existing databases.

I have .NET 2.0 installed. I uninstalled SQL and reinstalled it, but nothing seems to help. I feel I must be missing something, but do not know what.

I no longer have the MSDE installation files, so I hope I can get Studio to talk to SQL Express.

Any help is appreciated.

Whether SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Can Work With Visual Studio 2003 (Ver 1.1)

Mar 3, 2006

We are new to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. We are going to develope a solution for one of our client and we have to decide on which database to use for the solution. Client wanted to have a low cost solution. Thus we were not in a position to push them for SQL Sever 2000.

In the process, we also thought of having MySQL as one of the option. Another option we have is to use SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.

We wanted to know if SQL Server 2005 Express Edition can be used with Visual Studion 2003 (Ver 1.1) or it can only be used with Visual Studio 2005 (Ver 2.0)?

Hope to get feedback soon.

Deploy Reports Via Visual Studio 2005

Feb 23, 2007

This seems to be a basic issue, but I am having a problem trying to deploy a report to Reporting Services.

I have setup the deployment options under the properties of the Project. But each time I try to deploy a report, I get "The request failed with HTTP status 504: Gateway Time-out"

When I try to connect to connect directly to the TargetServerURL via a web browser from my client or the server itself, I can browse the structure fine. Not sure why I can't deploy via Visual Studio.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Reporting Services :: Setting Up A Visual Studio

Jun 29, 2015

Windows 7.We are preparing to introduce some of our folks to designing reports in SQL Server Reporting Service (SSrS). I want to do some preliminary testing on my laptop. I believe we should use Visual Studio (free version), the Business Intelligence tools for VS, and a local instance of SQL Server. I want to be able to install a sample database in the local instance of SQL Server and be able to look at the sample database's table structure.

To set up a local test environment, should I use VS, Business Intelligence tools for VS, and a local instance of SQL Server? Or is there some other set of tools I should use? What version of VS should I use (I saw VS Community 2015 RC is available)?Where might I get a robust sample database from which I can create SSrS Reports to test? What tool can I use to look at a local instance of SQL Server? These "express" versions don't seem to come with SQL Server Management Studio.

Background Color Differences Between Visual Studio && Reporting Services

Apr 18, 2007

I'm trying to deploy a report to Reporting Services, but I've found that there's a behaviour difference Visual Studio and Reporting Services with the Matrix control for the subtotals.

For the background color for the "textbox" on the cells, I've used the folowing expression:

=Iif(Fields!ID__vs_YAGO.Value < 1, "Red"

,Iif(Fields!ID__vs_YAGO.Value < 1.02, "Yellow"

,"GreenYellow"))

The individual cells alternate colors, based on the value in the cell. In Visual Studio, the Subtotal cells also alternate colors (which is correct). But when the report is deployed to Reporting Services, The Subtotal cells have a transparent background. (Incorrect).

If I set the same expression into the background setting for the Subtotal cells, the expression is evaluated once for the entire row and the entire row has the same color (different Subtotal lines will alternate). This is the same in both Visual Studio and Reporting Services.

I'm using SP2, 2005 (32 bit for Reporting Services). To ensure full compatibility, I've editted / deployed the report all on the same machine.

Does anyone know of this problem and how to resolve it?

Additional: In testing the various output formats, it seems to be a bug in the HTML rendering engine. PDF amd TIFF work fine. I believe Excel export uses either part of the HTML rendering engine or pieces of the same code base.

P.S. I'm detecting other reporting differences between Visual Studio and Reporting Services, such as how "null key records" (from Analysis Services) are handled in groups. Is there a compatibility list published somewhere?

Reporting Services :: Where Is Window Report Data In Visual Studio 2013

I have an assignment where I am asked to create a test report with Cascaded parameters in a report for use on an Intranet. Found a good guide on a site named slqtips. The only problem is, that when I have created my data source, my data sets and my queries, I should go to the window "Report parameter properties", for specifing the data which should be included in the choices in the report, and I cannot find it! As a matter of fact the milieu I work in, Report designer in Visual Basic Studio Shell 2013, on a MS SQL 2012 Server, looks different in many way compared to the guide. It actually also differs from the Pictures in the book "Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services" I also try to use for the purpose.Am I perhaps working in the wrong place, or what can the problem be? Is this Visual basic 2013 Window some kind of upgrade which is different from the original version where you used to work with Report designer?
