Can anybody help?
I have a Windows XP and 2003 server; we have installed SQL 2005 Express on it but have an application that installs MSDE 2000 to connect to an application. After the MSDE 2000 is installed we can no longer see the instance across the network. If we uninstall the SQL 2005 express version we can see the Instance in MSDE 2000.
Is there any compatibility issue with install MSDE 2000 after SQL 2005 has been installed.
Many Thanks in advance

I'm trying to upgrade the Default Instance of MSDE 2000 Release A which is installed with Mixed Mode and strong password to SQL Server 2005 Express in a Windows 2000 Server with SP4. On the Upgrade Logon Information screen, if I select SQL Server Authentication Mode, it will give me this message:
SQL Server Setup Cannot Upgrade the specified instance by using SQL Server Credential. You must use Windows Authentication credential for the upgrade.
Thanks for any help.

I want to know whether Express Edition supports these tools. If not then what do i need to have to get the same started?? I have a pc running on Vista.
Help from anyone will be greatly appreciated as I have been looking at the forums for quite a while and i am totally confused in this respect. What is the most uncomplicated way to solve this problem??
Many Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I had previously installed SQL Server 2005 Express edition (and later, SQl Server Management studio express). Recently, I wanted to try out 'Reporting services' and downloaded 'SQL server 2005 express Toolkit'.
After installation, I have a new program group 'Visual studio 2005' . I started that with 'New Report Project'. I tried to attach an existing database (to be precise, in 'connection string' part) , but it is giving error saying
'An error has occured while establishing connection to Server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005 (???) ,..... may be caused the fact that under default setting SQL Server does not allow remote connections '
I tried my existing SQL Server 2005 express edition Surface Area Configuration and it is configured for accepting remote connection using both TCP/IP & named pipes.
Now, I have following doubts:
1. Do I have to download & install SQL Server 2005 Express edition wiht Advanced options, if I wish to use Reporting services or I can use the existing SS2005EE along with Toolkit services?
2. If answer is yes to above question, how do I attach a database?
If you can throw some light on above, I shall be very grateful to you.
Thanks & regards,
Sathya

Hi,
I've just installed SQL Server Express 2005 on our shiny new Windows Server 2003 R x64 server. It has an Intel 830 D chip that uses x86 and 64EMT.
Problem is that I get the message "64-bit ASP.Net is Registered. Required 32-bit ASP.Net to install Microsoft Reporting Services 2005(32-bit)."
Is there any way that I can remedy this?
Thanks in advance

I'm attempting to obtain a cost effective solution for my existing customers to develop reports on their SQL 2000 Server installations using their Reporting Services 2000. With products like Visual Basic.NET 2003 becoming almost impossible to obtain, I have at least one customer who is running into a dead end.
One option possibly is the SQL Express with Advanced Services download, which has Reporting Services. My questions are as follows:
Can the report designer component of SQL Express Reporting Services be configured to connect to an external database (which would happen to be a SQL 2000 database) to establish its datasets?
Does the resultant designed report end up in an RDL file? If the customer published this report via the Reporting Services 2000 Report Manager, would the report be able to run?
Sorry for asking a question like this that I could probably answer on my own, but my customer needed this answer yesterday. I have scoured the web and microsoft sites - and posted a question on the official SQL Reporting Services cateogy ... in an attempt to answer the basic question of how to design reports for Reporting Services 2000 in the absence of Visual Basic.NET 2003 (or other .NET 2003 tools) with no success.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hello,
I am trying to migrate my reports from SQL server 2000 reporting services 32bit to 2005 64bit. I am following the migration steps that MS specified.
Restored my Reportserver and ReportserverTempDB databases
Then I was using the configure Report services to upgrade these databases but I always end up getting the follwoing exception when I run the upgrade on the "Database Setup" configuration for 'ReportServerTempDB' database
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB'. No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly.
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)
at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj)
at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteNonQueryTds(String methodName, Boolean async)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.InternalExecuteNonQuery(DbAsyncResult result, String methodName, Boolean sendToPipe)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Common.DBUtils.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)
at ReportServicesConfigUI.SqlClientTools.SqlTools.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)
It's driving me crazy, why is it looking for 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB' in the catalog instead of 'ReportServerTempDB'?
Is it possible to migrate from 32bit to 64bit?
Any help is appreciated

Hello,
We want the reporting tool to be integrated with visual studio 2005. From my understanding SQL reporting services 2000 can be integrated only with visual studio 2003 (Please correct me if I am wrong) . Hence we have decided to go for SQL reporting services 2005
I understand that SQL reporting services 2005 can be used with SQL server 2000 database. I want to know if SQL reporting services 2005 and SQL server 2000 database are on a single machine, would a single license for SQL server 2000 suffice or should we have a license for sql server 2005 (since we use SQL reporting services 2005) as well.
Many thanks in advance,
Vaneeth

Hi,
I successfully got SQL 2005 Express with reporting services running under VISTA. Developed some reports in the VISTA environment. However, my target system is a Windows 2000 server. We installed SQL 2005 w/reporting services onto the Windows 2000 server. SQL2005 Database is up and running. Reporting Services are running, IIS RRS virtual directories are built, RRS databases are built. I can do everything except deploy reports from Business Intelligent Studio. I can preview reports, just cannot deploy. The Reporting Services indicate 1 failure in its configuration; the Web Service Identity. It is loaded with <server>ASPNET. I cannot get rid of this error. I assume this is the problem. After digging around I found that Windows 2000 does not have an ASPNET user, it uses the IWAM user instead. Reporting services did not run at all till I changed the rs config file and put the IWAM user in as <WebServiceAccount>.
Does anyone have Reporting services 2005 running on Windows 2000 server? Anyone know how to fix the Web Service Identity error I am getting?
Thanks

Hi,
I have 2 MSDE 2000 Instances installed on Windows 2003 Server STd w/ SP1.
The application relating to the default instance is being upgraded and will require SQL 2005 Express.
What is the best approach? So the named instance of MSDE 2000 still functions correctly.
Upgrade default instance of MSDE to SQL 2005, or install SQL 2005 Express to own path and restore the DB accross? Then remove the Default Instance of MSDE 2000.
Both MSDE 2000 Instances are listed in Add/Remove Programs.
Thanks

For some reason, the Reporting Services Configuration Tool does not install with the Express Edition of Sql Server 2005 (although I can generate reports in preview mode of the SQL Server Business Intelligence Studio, which does install).
Anyone know how I can get this Reporting Services Configuration Tool to install, or is there a workaround to get the RS Server setup on our network computer?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks, Trint

All,
I apologize for not doing the legwork to see if i can answer my own question, but I am close to a loosely planned SQL 2005 migration and don't have time and resources to test my own theories.
Is there a way for a Reporting Services 2000 server to connect to SQL server 2005 databases? I've tried creating a new data source and changing a report to this data source, but it seems like the report is still using the old data source. I'm guessing i might need to register new data providers on the 2000 RS server and then change the existsing data sources.
Ideas?
Thx in advance,
-Peter

Is there any way to deploy reports to a Report Manager in SQL Server Reporting Services 2005 if the reports query SQL Server 2000 databases? Or are only 2005 databases able to deploy to the web?
Also, if I have a report that queries both, can I deploy it to the web on the 2005 Report Manager with a linked server to the 2000 server?

Hey, This is my first time posting here but here goes nothing...
Ok I upgraded an xp machine running to sql express 2005 by doing the inplace upgrade. The upgrade process went great, after the upgrade I could connect to the databases that had been upgraded using the management studio.
BUT.
When I try to connect to the databases using the third party software which had always worked in the past I get the error when trying to access from both the client and server machines.
[DBNETLIB][Connection open()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
I then tried setting up SQL express 2005 on another xp station just to test how things worked if it wasn't an upgrade. I installed, attached the databases (which I copied to that local machine) and I was able to connect to them through the third party software from the server machine, but not client machines. The client machines gave me the same error as above.
Does anyone have any ideas, I have been talking to the third party support but haven't gotten any where yet... does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,

I am having issues trying to do an in place upgrade of msde 2000 to sql express 2005. When I try to upgrade it bombs when it reaches "Running action to shutdown instance(Run As Normal User)" with the following error:
Service 'computername' could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to stop system services. The error code is (16386).
I've tried an upgrade on a clean test machine, and it goes through without any problems. I am logged into an account with local admin permissions. If any one has any ideas, they would be appreciated.

Hi,
I have problem during first configuration of Reporting Services from MS SQL 2005 Server Express with Advanced Services SP2. The error occurs when configuring virtual directory (Reporting Services Configuration Manager -> Report Server Virtual Directory). When I try to create new virtual directory I can see following messages:
Number of errors: 0
Create Virtual Directory
The virtual directory was created and assigned.
Changing Secure Connection Level
After last message Windows reports that SQL Server 2005 Reporting Configuration Tool has encountered a problem and needs to close (and I can send report to Microsoft).
IIS shows that virtual directory under default web site was created.
Evenet viewer (application log) shows .NET Framework 2.0 error:
EventType clr20r3, P1 rsconfigtool.exe, P2 9.0.3042.0, P3 45cd6ee2, P4 rsconfigtool, P5 9.0.242.0, P6 45cd6ee2, P7 15a, P8 5, P9 system.nullreferenceexception, P10 NIL
My environment:
MS SQL Reporting Services Version 9.00.3042.00
Windows XP Proffessional SP2
IIS 5.1
all components are fresh new installations. The only additional configuration I've made was adding IWAM_<hostname> as WebServiceAccount, all other configuration is default.
Any help would be appreciated.

Apparently you cannot go backwards. Once 2005 Express is installed, even removing it does not allow you to setup MSDE 2000 again. So there is no "trying it out" option.
Unfortunately, our software does not use 2005 Express. I tried it out, and now have a useless testing workstation that can't have MSDE 2000 installed again.
Any ideas on how to break the chain here are welcome.

Hi,
Recently we have migrated our application from MSDE 2000 to SQL Server Express 2005(SP 1). This has significantly reduced the performance of our Windows.NET application which is developed using C#.
For example : While logging in to the application two databases are being attached.
Time taken in MSDE: 16 secs
Time taken in SQL Server Express 2005 : 58 secs
Also note performance is degraded for normal screens where data is retrived from database using inline queries.
Questions:
1) Is there any special(optimum) configuration(installation parameters) while installing the SQL Server Express 2005 setup?
2) Is there any query optimization to be done w.r.t SQL Server Express 2005 ?
We highly appreciate any help towards resolving the above problem.

Sasi

Hello,
I'm trying to make some reports using the sql 2005 reporting services addin for Visual Web Developer Express 2005. I download the add-in here. So far it installed "successfully". The problem i have is when i try to add a datasource to the report at "Report > Data Sources... " it gives me an error saying: "The system cannot find the file specified."
Another Error it gives is that when I try to drag a DataSet field from the Website Data Sources toolbox tab the visual web developer crashes :/.
An observation that I don't know if this is ok is when I create a new Data Source it creates an App_Code folder inside where my report is /Reports/ and there it saves the DataSet. Just an observation...
This is my development enviorment:
Laptop:
Windows Vista Home Premium (Up to date)
Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 with Service Pack 1
Reporting Add-In for Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express
Server:
Microsoft Windows Server 2003
IIS 6.0
ASP.NET 2.0
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express
Reporting Services for SQL Server 2005 Express

When installing SQL Server 2005 Express with Advanced Services, everything installs except OWC11 and Reporting Services. The error is "Error 1706. Setup cannot find the required files. Check your connection to the network, or CD-ROM drive. For other potential solutions to this problem, see C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOFFICE111033SETUP.CHM." But this is just saying to enter the product key for MS Office.
Can anyone help?
