Hi All:
Using SQL Express 2005.
I want to attach some *.mdf files that are located in a folder other than the SQL Server Data folder (for example, D:MyData). If I do so, then I get an error message that the files can not be updated because they are read only.
If I move the files to the SQL ServerData folder then they attach without errors and work fine.
Is there some way I can tell SQL Server to allow the attachments in my other folder as well?

Two questions actually ...
1) Need a simple routine or system function for testing for or verifying the existence of a file or folder on the local server's file system. Returning a simple boolean value or 1 or 0 would be fine.
2) Need a syntax and use description of the new "master.dbo.xp_create_subdir" function ... anyone have some documentation or links? MS technet and MSDN have nothing.
Thanx

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having an issue where a folder that I'm accessing in an SSIS package gets locked up and cannot be deleted by my package later in the process.
1) I use a File System task to rename the folder. At this point, it appears to become locked and cannot be deleted.
2) Later I attempt to delete the folder using another File System task object. I get the error '[File System Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process."'.
My package accesses the folder via a drive mapping. This seems to be part of the problem, as it's possible to delete the folder directly but not via the drive mapping. Even once the package completes it's still not possible to delete the folder in Windows Explorer via the drive mapping.
Hi all hope some one can help - please bear with me new to this
Basically I have had to change pc's so I copied and pasted my ASPNET.MDF and LDF from my old pc to new PC including webpages/apps etc.. created.
However now all I get is "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path """"
Just don't understand what permissions the db should have, does it need to match the SQL Express owner...
any help would be most appreciated

I installed my asp.net 2.0 web application and sql express june editon on my windows 2003 server. When the application tries to reach the database i am getting the following error"Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path. Please make sure the user has a local user profile on the computer. The connection will be closed."I can understand that it has something to do with user right but more than that I am pretty lost. Can anyone translate this error for me and give me some tips on what do to.I checked first the user running the sql express service and saw it was the NETWORK SERVICE user. I changed it to be the local system account but that did not make any difference. The application is running just fine on my local computer(Win XP sp2). This one has SQL express April edition though.

My replication is not working. I was able to create a transactional replication successfully. However, when i tried starting the agent on the snapshot, it wouldn't work. I figure that it was because my agent service login is different from that of the subscriber. my publisher and distributor is on local user whereas my subsciber sql services use our global login.

Just spotted that some cowboys install a Live DB Server using Local System Account for the SQL Server Service.
Gonna change it to a Domain Admin Account tonight.
Anyone got any advice or warnings about any "gotchas" I might run in to during a job like this?
Hi:
A very stupid question but want to see if i have an answer.
Is it possible to run SQL Server Service and SQL Server Agent Service under local system(not Domain account) without granting SA Permissions on the server. is it ever possible to run by just granting some registry permissions and not making BUILTINAdministrators a SA on the server.
Thx

Hi,
Is it possible to set up database mirroring between two servers that have SQL Service running under Local system? I tried to setup mirroring between two servers running under Local system but was running into the following error:
Server or Network address cannot be reached or does not exist.
What are the pre-requisites for setting up database mirroring if the service runs under Local system? Do I have to configure certificates? Is that mandatory? Can anyone please let me know. Any other gotchas?
Thanks

I attempted to use Move Directory to move the contents of one directory to another. I encountered the 'different volume' issue that others have experienced. While this error is frustrating I can work past this particular issue. My more pressing question is why is the move directory command overwriting a destination directory?
When I setup the Move directory file task I provided two vars to hold src and dest location:
dest var: estserveroutput
src var: devserverdev estfiles
Set overwrite destination = TRUE
Why would Move Directory overwrite output folder at destination? Shouldn't it only overwrite if the testfiles directory exists at destination? This is very frustrating since I cannot find enough information in the official documentation to understand what is happening here.
Is it just me or does the documentation for Move directory seem.....incomplete?
We have been working on an application that will be using a forms-authenticated report server (RS2005) as a reporting back-end. Using the reporting services web service I have been able to assign permissions to objects in reporting services no problem. The issue is that each user needs to be added to the System User role to be able to use the report builder properly. I can't seem to find a way to do this programmatically. Any idea?
