Can SAP BI Connect To SQL Server 2005 And Read Tables And Columns NOT In Upper Case?

An IBM Global Services consultant is telling my client that in order to have SAP BI read any data from any other application supported by SQL Server 2005, that all tables and fields MUST be in UPPER CASE. This would mean that SAP BI could not read ANY data from AdventureWorks (which everyone needs ) but more importantly from 95% of applications written and stored on SQL Server. I find this to be ludicrious, frankly, but don't know how to find out if it is true. Anyone?
I have a problem. I need to rename all columns of a database to uppercase. Since SQL SERVER 2005 does not support changing system tables is there a smooth way to do this? Has anyone ideas for a script? point me to the right direction. I have found the stored procedure sp_rename which could be useful (or would it be better to alter the tables)... So any help would be appriciated very much...
Our sql server 2005 database is receiving data from a third part program over which we have no control. We need to be able to automatically convert data entered in one column of one table to UPPER case only.

Is there a method for converting the first character of a account name to uppercase and the the remaining characters to lower case? I've used the substring procedure but for a name like 'MY NEW COMPANY', how could I convert it to 'My New Company' ? Thanks, Terry
Folks, what script must I use, as a part of CREATE TABLE, to automatically convert characters to UPPER case on insert? I wrote <CHECK (country = UPPER (country)> in the CREATE TABLE, which was wrong, because the values were still in the lower case. The sample script is:
CREATE TABLE address (street varchar(40), city varchar(20), state char (2), zip varchar (10), country varchar (20))
When a user types "Canada", I want the inserted value be "CANADA"
The all caps text strings at the beginning of the field need to end up in a separate field than the mixed strings, and the mixed strings need to stay together. The field length varies, as do the lengths of the all caps text strings. There are a lot of records, so I would be interested to know if there was a way to proceed without manually editing each line.
I need to set up 1 new user in SQL Server 2005 to be able to read specific tables in a db (db1).
The user will connect from MS access using odbc links (SQL Native client ot SQL Server driver)
I've tried to set up one and once logged on from the user workstation, I can only see sys. tables and INFORMATION_SCHEMA tables. None of the required db1 tables appear.
under Security/Logins I've created User1: SQL Server auth. with password default db = db1 server_roles = none user mapping = map, db1, user1,dbo securables = none status = grant, enabled
on the access db, the odbc link was set up with default db = db1
Ho can I convert first letters of a string to Upper Case (i.e. UNITED KINGDOM - Untited Kingdom). I have country names table which has all entries in uper case. This makes a select box very larg and unproportional. Thanks in advance for the help.
Almost all of our character fields are stored in upper-case. Is there an easy way to force SQL Server char and varchar fields to upper-case? Something I can do in SQL Server instead of in the client? It needs to apply to any new records.
There are some exceptions (email addresses for one). I don't mind going through each field and changing something.

Here is My requirement, I'm not sure if this is possible. Creating table called master like col1, col2 col3, col4 , col5 ...Where Col1, col2 are updatable - this can be done easily
Col3, col4 are columns in another table but these can be just a read only ?? Is this possible ? this is possible with View but not friendly with share point CRUD...Col 5 is a computed column of col 2 and col5 ? if above step can be done then sure this can be done I guess.
I have created an SQL server table in the past on a server that was all case sensative. Over time I found out that switching to a server that is not case sensative still caused my data to become case sensative. I read an article that said you should rebuild your master database then re-create your tables. So after rebuilding the master database, a basic restore would not be sufficient? I would have to go and manually re-create every single table again?

The problem I'm having now is that any users that are not in the sysadmin server role can't read any table. Say if I have 2 users:
Domain1User1 ( in db_datareader and db_datawriter Database Role, no sever role assigned) Domain1User2 ( in db_datareader and db_datawriter Database Role, sysadmin Server Role)
Here is what's expected to happen if everything goes well.
A list of customers ( first name, last name, age, etc) in a gridview should show up after login.
After both users logged in, Domain1User1 received an exception message of "Object reference not set to an instance of an object".
Domain1User2, however, was able to see the list.
I checked SQL Server Logs, and found 2 items: Login succeeded for user 'Domain1User1' ... Connection TRUSTED Login succeeded for user 'Domain1User2' ... Connection TRUSTED. Based on the log file, it appears that both users had good connections to the database. Then why is it that User1, which is not in sysadmin Server Role, was not allowed to make a query?
Now if I assign sysadmin Server Role to Domain1User1 as well, the User1 will be able to see the list without seeing the exception.
I'm having a problem connecting with a Java application but I CAN connect using my .Net application - the user name and password are the same for both (using the same database on SQL Server Express 2005).
The error I get is: "com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Cannot open database "CORNERS" requested by the login. The login failed." An interesing note - I get the same message if the database is not running.
SQL Server Express 2005 is installed in mixed mode.
Here is my connection string in the .Net appplication: <add key="connectString" value="Server=(local);UID=sa;PWD=myPasswd;Database=CORNERS" />.
What role or system privilege do I need to grant to a user if he need to read the data from a table which is in a link server object? where I can find the document about these commands.
I have a Login that I setup in SQL Server 2005. The only database roles given to the login are db_datareader and public. On SQL 2000 these permissions are sufficient to allow me to setup a read only ODBC connection using this login and creating an import table in Access. When using the login in SQL 2005 and creating an import table, I am able to edit the underlying data, something I am not able to do with a SQL 2000 ODBC connection. Is there something in SQL 2005 that I am unaware of that would allow this login to modify (update) the table?
I was wondering what more experienced DBAs have observed with regard to the capacity of a MSSQL DB. Is there an upper threshold of rows where performance becomes unacceptable? I have a fairly slow, but constant input rate of approximately 2,000 rows every 60 seconds or so (that is a little high, but I'm interested in worse case scenario here). That is up 172,800 rows a day. (I'm being overly pessimistic here.) We'd like to be able to keep all of this around as long as possible.
Or would a more heavy duty DB be in order for these sorts of data rates?
I have an issue when connecting with application Intent=readonly when using Listener name. I can connect to the read only secondary with application Intent=readonly if I use the server name. It gives a host does not exist error when using listener. This happens only if I am using the application Intent keyword. I can connect for normal readwrite operation using listener name.
if it is possible to run a distributed query against 2000 from 2005, what would the OPENDATASOURCE parameters look like? I'd like to be able to pivot without copying my older 2000 db to 2005 or using linked servers..

Hi, I have VS Pro 2005 and SQL Server Express 2005 installed on an XP Pro machine. When using VS 2005, in the 'Server Explorer' window I can see and attach to two SQL Server databases that I have set-up. But if I attempt to access the same databases from withn the 'Solution Explorer' window I get the following dialog box message,
" Required Component Missing (Dialog box heading)
Connections to SQL Server Files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express to function properly. Please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=49251 "
I have uninstalled and then reinstalled both VS 2005 and SQL Server Express twice but it has helped.
I don't understand why I'm getting this error because all of the server configuration tools and connection utilities seem to work fine but VS say's that SQL Server Express is not installed.

P.S. I had another application that required MSDE 2000A to be installed. When I removed the other application I also removed MSDE 2000A and that's when the problem began.
This just happened today and I dont know why. I have a database on a SQL server 2005 database, that has a table called photos. It contains image data, but not the column says <Unable to read data>. But before that I get an error when I try to execute the table to retreive the data. The error is below. SQL Execution Error:Executed SQL statement: SELECT ID, AlbumID, Caption, BytesOriginal, BytesFull, BytesThumb FROM PhotosError Source: System.DataError Message: Invalid attempt to Read when reader is closed. This happens with SQL Server Management Studio, and Visual Studio 2005 when I try to access it. I tried two computers so its not that. Any help or insight would be appreciated.
