Not sure if this was posted but having a hard time finding an answer.
I'm currently running sql server 2000 enterprise edition on my machine and was wondering what would happen if i installed 2005 express edition and vice versa? I've found many blogs and post about compatibility issues with the 2005 Express Beta version but couldn't find any news with full version. It would be much appreciated if someone can help me out with this problem.

Jul 26, 2006I read in the installation requirements document for SQL Server 2005 Express the section on upgrading MSDE to SQL Server 2005 Express. The section indicated that if MSDE is installed via an application installation, that application will have to be uninstalled to remove MSDE. This leads to my question.
The small application I'm looking into developing will require SQL Server 2005 Express. What if a customer is using an application that installed MSDE? Can the two products coexist without problems?

We cannot upgrade the SQL 2000 because of an older application that doesn't work with SQL 2005. Currently we run WSUS 2.0 using MSDE and have no problems.

My server is using the SQL server 2005 backup tool and arcserve backup tool to backup different files .
Everytime I need to disable and enable the tape device driver (in device manager /windows) before I can use SQL server 2005 backup tool.
Everytime I need to disable and enable the tape device driver (in device manager /windows) before I can use arcserve backup tool.
It seems that the tape device resource is held by softwares even the tape drive is not in use.
What should I do to make the tape drive shared by different softwares?

MSSQLSERVER And SQLExpress Coexist?
Jan 10, 2006i had sqlserver2000 (including the enterprise manager and desktop engine) and .net 2003 installed in my development machine, I developed a vb.net application that communicates with a locally hosted mssql db.
recently i had .net 2005 and MS Server 2005 installed, then I converted my application in .net 2005, after, I started having problem deploying the application and db together to client machine and even on my own development machine, it's all database communication sort of problems. (now i have SQL Server Management Studio Express CTP installed)
Did i make any mistake? should i uninstall sqlserver2000, .net 2003 before installing server2005 and .net 2005?
btw, in my explorer, C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server, i have 5 subfolders: "80", "90", "MSSQL", "MSSQL.1" and "MSSQL$SETUPTESTAPPINS". i know that 80 and MSSQL are the folders for server2000, 90 and MSSQL.1 are probably server2005 folders. but what is "MSSQL$SETUPTESTAPPINS"? from the readme.txt i found it's related to server2000, but what is it about?
also, in my registry, HKEY_Local_Machine/Software/Microsoft/Microsoft SQL Server/, the value of "InstalledInstances" is MSSQL SETUP TESTAPPINS SQLEXPRESS, after i removed SQLServer2000 stuff, the key value became "SETUP TESTAPPINS SQLEXPRESS", Now i dont have server2000 in my system anymore, how come SETUP TESTAPPIN is still there?

SQL Server 2005 Installation Problems With SQL Server Express && SQL Server 2000

I have had SQL Server Express and Sql Server Management Studio Express installed on my machine for some time and recently tried to install a trial of SQL Server 2005 as well. (Yes, I'm migrating from Visual Studio Express to Visual Studio Professional, just as in tended!)
Everything went fine except that nothing seemed to be installed. I searched in all the obvious places - both on the Start/Programs menu and on the hard-drive: nothing.
A check under Add/Remove Programs showed that Sql Server 2005 Express was installed, but called SQL Server 2005.
So after a number of retries in which the install program kept saying that there was nothing to install, I selected every option under Advanced in the intall process. This resulted in stuff being installed and I now have SQL Server 2005 running on my machine, but no SQL Server Manager icon.
My questions are:
Where can I find the SQL Server Manager executeable?
Has anyone installed SQL Server Express, SQL Server Mangement Studio Express, SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server Management Studio on a single machine successfully? If so, what order did you install them in? (I'm planning on uninstalling everything SXQL Server related and starting again.)

However, when I try to import my .bak files created in SQL Server Management Studio Express I get the following error:"The backed-up database has on-disk structure version 611. The server
supports version 539 and cannot restore or upgrade this database.
RESTORE FILELIST is terminating abnormally."I have Googled this error and learnt that 2005 .bak files are not compatible with 2000 .bak files. On the production server, they have SQL 2000. So I need to get one of my databases from this server to the other one. From my understanding you can't export from 2005 to 2000 because of the drastic change.
What is the easiest way for me to do this?
create the tables manually and export the data in CSV and import it that way?

I have another application that wants to use MSDE 2000 (already tried using SQL Express 2005, but it won't install). Problem Connecting To Server 2005 Express On Win Server 2000 Sp4
Jul 22, 2007I have installed Server 2005 Express on a pc running Windows Server 2000 sp4 which I want to use as the server for a network of pcs. However, I am unable to login to SQL Express on this machine from Sql Server Management Studio Express. I am in mixed mode and trying to connect with Server Authentication. I get various error messages none of which seem to point to the problem.
Networked to this pc are several other machines running Xp Professional/Home sp2 and if I install SQL Express on one of these I can log in to SQL Express on that machine without any problem. I can also connect to it via the network from the Win Server 2k machine.
Does anyone know of any issues when installing Server 2005 Express on a pc running Windows Server 2000 sp4.
Any help would be appreciated.

Mar 26, 2007whenever i modified the connection of my current database...I'll always got an error,when asking for "server name"..it says [DBNETLIB...etc]Named Pipes etc error..my current database was SQLEXPRESS and i want to change it as an SQL OLEDB,2000,2005.. but as i said il always got an error..sometimes it says "SQL server does not exit..ODBC" etc...when im entering the "server name"..so i could only used Access or SQLEXPRESS server database.. what should i do with the error?? thanks for helping again..

How do I copy a database from SQL Server 2000 to my local SQL Server Express? I have done this between 2000 before, but the manager for the express edition doesn't seem to have the copy task..
I really need to do this, since I have to work with a databse locally on my machine when developing...
I can't register my express server in the enterprise manager on the machine from which I need to copy the databse.. Seems to be a version incompability problem?
Does anyone have a solution for this?

I currently have sql2000 installed its used for an application. But I want to install visual studio 2005 and with this sql server express 2005 also is being installed ( if you want to) now I wonder if this is possible, that is is it possible to both run sql server 2000 and sql server express at the same time on the same box?
