Can SSIS Work In A Cluster

Apr 25, 2006

We have just installed a new SQL 2005 Clustered server and loaded integration services. However it appears that integrations services may not work properly in a clustered environment.

So can integration services be setup on a clustered SQL 2005 server?

How SSIS Works With Cluster SQL And Non Cluster SSIS Service?

Mar 14, 2008

According to microsoft, we can cluster SSIS service but it is NOT RECOMMENDED.
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345193.aspx

Now this is the situation that I have where I need to understand how SSIS works?

Enviornment: Active Active cluster enviornment for SQL server with SSIS server installed as stand alone as default on both node.

Name: Node 1 Node 2
--------- -------------- ---------------------
Server name: Nd1 Nd2
SQL server name: cs-nd1in01 cs-nd2in02
SSIS server name: Nd1 Nd2

BTW, this is cosolidated enviornment so there are more than one application expected and resides on each instance of SQL server.

The question is around SSIS, what would be the best practice to develop SSIS package that can work with above envoinrment.

Secnario: What if my Nd1 fails. SQL server cs-nd1IN01 will be failover to Nd2 and it will be available. But How about SSIS packages? How that understands
to use Nd2 SSIS as Nd1 SSIS is not available. Is anyone has similar experience to setup SSIS in cluster envionrment but as non-cluster service?

Please help. Thanks in adavance.

SQLMail Does Not Work On 7.0 Cluster

Jul 16, 2001

I recently set up a SQL 7.0 cluster (active/passive) on a pair of Win2K boxes. I noticed that the SQLServerAgent would refuse to send system alerts to my e-mail account, yet net sent messages worked fine. I know I've set everything up properly, so I paid the $245 to speak with Microsoft.

The answer was found; their response follows:
{redacted}
CAUSE:
============
On a cluster an undocumented stored procedure is called by the Operator to send email and this causes it to fail. SQL Mail is not supported on SQL 7.0 clusters and any features depending on it will also fail.

RESOLUTION:
============
SQL 2000 does support SQL Mail on clusters with MS Office 2000 and up.
In SQL 2000 Books Online do a search for the following topics and include the quotes:
“Using SQL Server Tools with Failover Clustering”

Also you can workaround the problem by using a job that uses xp_sendmail to send the alert instead.
{END}

Now is that lame or what? Of all the functions you would expect to work in a failover cluster, you would think that e-mailing the operator in the event of a failure would be high on the list. Apparently, not so. Their official answer was to upgrade to SQL2000. Anybody care to guess the price on doing a dual CPU dual box cluster upgrade?

Now my question is this: The tech person was right, xp_sendmail does work fine. What I have wanting to do, and have been unable to do, is to write a TRIGGER that would fire whenever an error is logged by the SQL server. I have looked around, but could find no documentation on what table it is that receives error logs.

Does anybody know which table receives error messages? I'm wanting to write a trigger that exec's xp_sendmail so I get error alerts.

SQL 2005 On Windows Compute Cluster 2003 Will It Work ?

Mar 22, 2007

Hi all

I am busy looking at the WIndows 2003 Comptu Cluster setup (Well I am loading it)

And I am interested to know if any body has run SQL 2005 Enterprise on this platform before ?

I know that Windows Compute Cluster uses a JOB scheduler to run tasks and this can be customised for each task , to allow it to use more resourses or less .

I also know that SQL 2005 is much more capable of running cluster mode with database replication and log file shipping

I want to know is of I load SQL 2005 on a Clustered Compute setup will it handle the SQL jobs, database requests with out the scheduler.

The question might be a bit tricky but any help is appricated

Thanks

Sylvester

SSIS Packages In A Cluster

Jan 17, 2007

I'm still new to SSIS packages and I'm NOT a developer. I am in the process of doing preliminary/prepatory work for migrating our SQL 2000 platforms to SQL 2005.

I am having a REAL headache with migrating/moving DTS packages from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005. Here are things that I know :

1. I know that some packages cannot be migrated due to ActiveX issues and other issues. Fine.

2. I know that I can install DTS backwards compatibility components on the server in order to be able to edit the DTS packages using a SQL 2000 DTS GUI. Fine.

3. I know that I can use the Migration wizard to migrate packages (and that some of them can't be migrated this way). Fine.

Here's what I don't know/or am conjecturing:

1. In a clustered environment, I have to edit the <%Install Path%>/90/DTS/Bin/MsDtsSrvr.ini.xml file to set the <ServerName> property to the Virtual Server name. Correct? Why can't M$ do this for me?

2. Do I HAVE to export the SSIS package to a .DTSX file in order to be able to edit it with Visual Studio? Is there ANY way around this?

3. If I am running in a clustered environment and I use the File System for storing packages, then the pacakges must be stored on a shared volume, right?

4. I did not find SQL Server Integration services on the B- (Passive) node. Do I have to install it separately onto the B server (much like having to install the Client Tools)?

If anyone has some guidance or tips on running SSIS in this brave, new, wonderful world, I would sure appreciate it.

And yes, I am going to go out right now and order a new book on SSIS.

Regards,

hmscott

Configuring SSIS In An ActiveActive Cluster

Apr 23, 2007

OK so I am aware that the SSIS service can be clustered relatively easily but my problem is a bit more complex I believe.

I have an ActiveActiveActive 3 node cluster running Windows 2003 sp1 all running SSIS packages. What I need is a solution to having an instance fail to another node and still be able to run scheduled SSIS packages through the SQL Agent.

The solution that I have come up with is to have a single network share for all three instances of SSIS running locally on the individual nodes. I have removed the ability for SSIS to look in MSDB by altering the config file and reference only the Packages share on the network for accessability. They all share the same config file on the share as well. The share structure looks something like this simplified example.

\server1SSISConfiguration

\server1SSISPackages

\server1SSISPackagesInstance1

\server1SSISPackagesInstance2

\server1SSISPackagesInstance3

Once I change the registry to point to the config file all three instances can access the Instance1, 2 or 3 directories.

This works ok for the jobs, and I can access the stored packages under the file system folder only if I'm remotely connected to that particular physical server hosting the service or on the console. The problem I am having though is when users or I attempt to access the SSIS Engine through SSMS from our locale machines. It seems as though SSMS is having trouble with the passthrough of the directory information. On the share I obviously have permissiosn to access the directory structure (full control to be exact) because I can get to it when I access it from SSMS on the server.

This is the error I get...

SSIS Deployment On Sql Cluster Problem

Nov 9, 2007

Hi,

I have been battling the whole day to get my project working on our sql cluster.

My project contains file system packages parent(control) packages etc. I cannot get any package to execture after deploying and configuring the packages with the manifest.

When I try to execute even a simple package, i get the following error:

Has anyone ever gotten this error? Is it permission related? I have already granted the sql user for this project ownership over the database but I think that the agent does not have permission to access those file system packages. This might be a problem since it is a file system package...if so, how do I grant the agent access to an NT file system?

SSIS Error Running On SQL Cluster

Aug 16, 2007

I have the following setup:
1. Clustered Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2) with .net 2.0 - Server A
2. Separate server containing the SSIS services (Per Microsoft - SSIS isn't cluster aware). - Server B

I am getting the following error when I run a SSIS package through a scheduled job on the Server A:

Description: The task "Set dynamic file name variable" cannot run on this edition of Integration Services. It requires a higher level edition.

I found the following post that fixes the issue, but I don't want to install SSIS on the SQL Cluster (Server A) because it isn't cluster aware.

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=67276&SiteID=1

This package runs fine locally from Visual Studio or from Server B. All of my other SSIS packages run fine on the Server A through the SQL Agent. This package fails on a script task that is setting some dynamic variables. Do I need to install some additional components or service packs to SQL Server on Server A?

I don't want to install SQL Server on the Server B and run the jobs through that agent because we don't have the money for a separate license.

Kerberos Delegation Don't Work With SSIS ?

Aug 10, 2007

Hello,

I have configured Kerberos delegation for several web services. One of the web service calls SSIS packages, but the packages don't run with the expected impersonate user : the package starts with the imporsonate user, but continue with ASPNET user (which is not allowed to execute SSIS and connect to DB).

If the web service is called directly (no delegation), SSIS packages run with the correct user. It looks like than there is an autenthicate issue, but kerberos is configured and web services can run from one to another with the impersonate user. The issue occured only when I call SSIS packages.

Here is a extract of the SSIS log file :

SSIS Error Output -- How Is It Supposed To Work?

May 29, 2006

I€™m importing a Flat file (delimited text) into a sql server database table and trying to trap any import errors in another output Flat file.

I create a Flat File Source task. After tweaking the task, the Source €śError Output€? tab shows all the input columns and all €śError€? and €śTruncation€? values are set to €śRedirect row€?

Next I add a €śSQL Server Destination€? task and connect the Source green arrow to it.

Finally I add a Flat File Destination task (error Output task), connect the Source red arrow to it, click €śOK€? in the €śConfigure Error Output€?, and finally add a connection manager to the Error output task. When I look at the Mappings tab of the Error Output file it shows only three available input columns: €śFlat File Error Output Column€?, ErrorCode, and ErrorColumn

I€™m not sure where they came from but that info is not very useful to me. I want to know which line the error occurred on as well as the bad column(s). If nothing else, I need to see at least the actual row that was bad. How can I get that information?

Precedence Constraint In SSIS Didn't Work

Aug 27, 2007

Dear all,
I've been searching the article for error handling in SSIS but seems no article have same problem exactly as mine. In my package there's container, it contains Data Flow task and some of Script tasks. I put an error precedence from Data Flow task into Script task that contains script for log an error that might be occured. The Data Flow task imports data from flat file into SQL Server 2005 and I've set a semicolon as the column delimiter. Unfortunately there is a data in flat file that had one column contain semicolon as its value.
This would trigger an error and I hope the error would be logged into a table as I wrote inside Script task. But it didn't work. The error precedence won't work, the package stop in flat file source instead. I've been trying the event handler but it didn't work either. Maybe I got wrong implementation, anybody can help me explain the error handler and solve the problem ?
Here is the capture of my package, since I didn't know how to attach the picture in this forum.
Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Hery

Can SSIS Work With An XML Web Service? (Verisign Payflow Pro)

Feb 20, 2007

I'm trying to figure out a solution for posting financial transactions against our Payflow Pro (Verisign) payment gateway (web service) using SSIS. The process I have in my mind goes like this...

1.) Select the appropriate records from our financial system DB.

2.) Iterate through each record and post the pertinent values against the payment gateway web service.

3.) Create log files for successful and failed transactions.

The log files would then be manually imported into our financial system.

Thanks in advance.

Best Method For Installing SSIS On Production SQL 2005 Sp1 Active/passive Cluster?

Greetings,

I need to install the SSIS components on the referenced database server. I believe the SSIS components are cluster aware, so I was planning on just doing add/remove and selecting the components. Rather than breaking the cluster apart to patch the components back to SP1, I was thinking of just running the SP2 install right over the top of the running cluster to bring everything up to SP2.

I'm looking for any suggestions/comments on whether this is the proper way to proceed or if I'm going to have a problem.

I have tried most of the solutions posted in other websites most of them to do with using proxies with credentials but havent hit a solution. I would love to get any input on what to do.

SQL 2012 :: SSIS - Execute Stored Procedure With Parameters Does Not Work

Jun 9, 2015

Using the following:

SQL Server: SQL Server 2012
Visual Studio 2012

I have created an SSIS package where I have added an Execute SQL Task to run an existing stored procedure in my SQL database.

General:
Result Set: None
Connection Type: OLE DB
SourceType: Direct Input
IsQueryStoredProcedure: False (this is greyed out and cannot be changed)
Bypass Prepare: True

When I use the following execute statement where I am "Hard Coding" in the parameters, the stored procedure runs successfully and it places the data into the table per the stored procedure.

SQLStatement: dbo.sp_ml_location_load @system_cd='03', @location_type_cd=Store;

However, the @system_cd parameter can change, so I wanted to set these parameters up as variables and use the parameter mapping in the Execute SQL Task.

I have set this up as follows and it runs the package successfully but it does not put the data into the table. The only thing I can figure is either I have the variables set up incorrectly or the parameter mapping set up incorrectly.

Stored procedure variables:

ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_ml_location_load]
(@system_cd nvarchar(10), @location_type_cd nvarchar(10))
AS
BEGIN .....................

Here is my set up, what is wrong here:

I Created these Variables:

Name Scope Data Type Value
system_cd Locations String '03'
location_type_cd Locations String Store

I added these parameter mappings in the Execute SQL Task

Variable Name Direction Data TypeParameter NameParameter Size
User::system_cd Input NVARCHAR@system_cd -1
User::location_type_cd Input NVARCHAR@location_type_cd -1

I used this SQLStatement: EXEC dbo.sp_ml_location_load ?,

It runs the package successfully but it does not put the data into the table.

Pass-thru Query Doesn't Work With A SQL 2005 SSIS Package

Dec 14, 2007

I am trying to execute an SSIS package from an MS Access 2003 database that imports a table from the Access database into a target table in SQL 2005. I saved the package in SQL 2005 and tested it out. If I run it from the Management Studio Console with Run->Execute ... everything works just fine. However, if I try to run it using the following line command "Exec master.dbo.xp_cmdshell 'DTExec /SER DATAFORCE /DTS SQL2005TestPackage /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING V'" the execution will always fail when the Access database is open (shared mode). The connection manager looks like this: "Data Source=E:Test.mdb;Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Persist Security Info=False;Jet OLEDB:Global Bulk Transactions=1". The error is listed below:

Code: 0xC0202009
Source: NewPackage Connection manager "SourceConnectionOLEDB"
Description: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.
An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft JET Database Engine" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Could not use ''; file already in use.".

What am I doing wrong?

Integration Services :: SSIS 2008 R2 Set Values Does Not Work As Intended

Oct 13, 2015

At one of my accounts I'm using SQL 2008r2 and SSIS in an DWH solution. Today I wanted to created a dynamic sql statement in one of the packages. The dynamic part is in the where-clause a sql query I use. I want to set the values for this clause dynamically. Therefor I created a user variable (named 'Filter') which should get it´s value at run-time.

/DTS "MSDBProdMy Package" /SERVER "My-Server" /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING EW /SET "Package.Variables[User::Filter].Properties[Expression]";" where [Starting Date] < '2008-09-01 00:00:00.000' "

However when I execute this package with dtexecui it doesn not use the value specified after the /SET parameter, but instead uses the value specifiied at design time. I get the same when I add the execution of ths pacakage as a sql server job step (type SSIS).  I would expect that value specified after the /SET parameter would overwrite the valus specified at design time, but I don't see that happening.

During the installation of Adding node to a SQL Server failover cluster(On passive node) getting error like.. The MOF compiler could not connect with the WMI server.
