Can A Query Using OUTPUT Statement Be SELECTED From?

Oct 19, 2007

I tried wrapping a DELETE FROM ...OUTPUT DELETED.* WHERE... inside of a select, crossed my fingers and got a syntax error. I thought maybe since the OUTPUT statement produces a rowset that it and it's DELETE could be selected from. Is such a thing possible in the same query or should I give up?

Parse Strings To Get Selected Output

Nov 26, 2009

I have a field with following value :

USE TESTTABLE
GO
CREATE TABLE Example (
Description varchar(500))
GO
INSERT INTO [TESTTABLE].[dbo].[Example] ([Description])
VALUES ('hello This is a test query.

[Code] ....

I want to extract three things from the above data stored ina single field

1. LAST NAME (All characters before COMMA till a special character is met)
2. FIRST NAME (All characters AFTER COMMA till a special character is met)
2. ID (All numbers after the word ID. Ignore all special characters before and after the numbers)

The Output will be :

FIRST NAME LAST NAME ID
John Doe 123456
John Doe 123456
John Doe 123456

How can I use substrings to extract this data in SQL 2005

Selected Listbox Values In SQL Statement

Jan 9, 2008

I have seen some information on this but have not understood fully the answers.  I am fairly new to this and have spent the afternoon trying to work on this and although I have leant some really cool things I am no nearer.  How do I get selected values from a LIstbox into a SQL statement using the IN command
First I loop through a List box control to get the multi selected values: Dim li As ListItemFor Each li In lbPClass.Items  If li.Selected = True Then    strPC += li.Value & ", "  End IfNextLabel5.Text = strPC The result in the lable looks something like: 100, 101, 102 , I get rid of the trailing blank and commar with:Label6.Text = Left(Label5.Text, Trim(Len(Label5.Text) - 2)) I have created a parameter called @PROPCLASS that will use the values from the selected values in the listbox in a SQL query using an IN statement: Cmd.Parameters.Add(New OleDbParameter("@PROPCLASS", Label6.Text)) strSQL = "SELECT * FROM web_transfer WHERE ( PROP_CLASS IN (@PROPCLASS)) AND (ACRES >= @lowSize)AND (ACRES < @HighSize)  AND (YEAR = @lowYear)AND (SALE_PRICE > @lowPrice) AND (SALE_PRICE < @highPrice) "
It is really the first bit of the WHERE clause I am interested in.  The sql statement works if I either type in the actual values IN( 100, 101,102) or if I select only one value in the list box.  If I select two then the sql statement does not work.
My question is: How do I get the values selected in the List box into my SQL statement   Thank you in advance, s

Number Of ROWS Of Output Of Aggregate Transformation Sometimes Doesn't Match The Output From T-SQL Query

Dec 25, 2006

While using Aggregate Transformation to group one column, the rows of output sometimes larger than the rows returned by a T-SQL statement via SSMS.

For example, the output of the Aggregate Transformation may be 960216 ,but the

'Select Count(Orderid) From ... Group By ***' T-SQL Statement returns 96018*.

I'm sure the Group By of the Aggregate Transformation is right!

But ,when I set the "keyscale" property of the transformation, the results match!

In my opinion, the "keyscale" property will jsut affects the performance of the transformaiton, but not the result of the transformation.

Thanks for your advice.

Reporting Services :: How To Display (All Selected) When Parameter (Select All) Is Selected In SSRS

May 6, 2015

Using SSRS 2008 r2...I have a report with a single-value parameter and three multi-value parameters, Class1, Name2 and Name3. I'm hoping for an explanation to one thing that I'm seeing and information on a second thing.

Class1 and Name2 both have the (Select All) parameter selected but Class1 is displaying the concatenated parameter variable list whereas Name2 is showing Null. Why is that? If anything, how can I get Class1 to be similar to Name2 and show Null? But my desired wish is to have Class1, Name2 and Name3 display the text"All Selected" when the parameter (Select All) is chosen.

Query Produces Jumbled Output / Output Not In Sequence

Jul 23, 2005

Hi!Server info -Win2K3 Server +SP1 with 1 GB Memory and 1.5 GB Virtual MemorySQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition + SP3 running on this.Required result -Create a SQL Script that will contain a set of create, update, insert& delete statements (about 17500 lines including blank lines) thatcan be run on different databases seperatelyHow we do this -We have a SP - that creates a temporary table and then calls anotherSP that actually populates the temporary table created by the first SP*Samples of both SPs are below -PROBLEMThe result is directed to a file -However when the query is run it runs through the entire script but'Jumbles' the outputRunning the same scripts on a copy of the database on other machineswork fine and the size of the outfiles is exactly the sameI have increased the page size to 2.5 GB and restarted the server.Running the sp now generated the correct output a few times but gotjumbled as before after a few more users logged in and activity on theserver increased.Another interesting point is that the output is jumbled exactly thesame way each time. It seems the sql executes correctly and writesthe output in chunks only writting the chunks out of sequence - butin the same sequence each time.e.g. of expected resultInsert into Table1Values x, y, z, Update Records Just Selected (in One Query)

Mar 28, 2006

I have a stored procedure that I give some parameters and it joins a couple of tables and returns the results.  I would like to know how to update the records in one of the original tables before returning results.
CREATE Procedure dbo.DS_GetSomething(@someValue char(5)AS
Select table1.* ,table2.* FROM table1 left inner join table1.itemid on table2.itemid where table2.someValue = @someValue
The table has a field of IMPRESSIONS that I would like to do something like:
;UPDATE table1 set impressions=impressions + 1 where recordid=??
I don't know how to access the recordids I just got from the original select statement.
Thanks for any help

Dataset MDX Query For ALL Selected In Parameters

Apr 2, 2008

Hello All,

I have 2 MultiValued Parameters in my reports, our of which first is dependent on the other.

Eg. I have a SubProductGroup Parameter and depending upon the value selected in SubProductGroup, the other parameter which is Product gets filled in combo box.

Both these parameters are MultiValued and I am having "Select ALL" option in both the combo box.

Now, whenever you select any SubProductGroup values, the Dataset for Product gets executed to fill the Product combo box.

The MultiValued Parameters works using the "IN" Clause. All those products are retrieved which are "IN" the selected SubProductGroup.

Whenever user selects "Select All" option for SubProductGroup, there is no need for this "IN" clause, because we actually need all the records for Product.

Similarly, I have the Main Dataset which retrieves the Sales data for the Products selected from the Combo Box. So, the same question arises there also.

Right now I am using STRTOSET( ) and Join( ) function and this is working fine for me.

But when User Selects "Select All" in SubProductGroup, it takes a long time to fill the combo box for Product as well as when user selects "Select All" for Product, it takes a long time for the actual Dataset to retrieve records. But its working fine.

In order to improve the Performance, I am trying to eliminate this IN clause when "Select All" is selected.

How can I do this ?

Any Inputs ?

Thanks & Regards,
Kapadia Shalin P.

Creating A Heirarchical Output From SQL Statement

Jul 20, 2005

This may be a basic question, but defining anything other than a cursoris preffered.I have, as an example, 2 tables. One with customer data (addresses, phones, etc), the other is a listing of all 50 states (a cross referencefor short state alias to long state name, i.e. FL - Florida, etc...).I want to sort the out put by state long name, and show each customer inthe state ... BUT ...the output needs to be like so:FloridaABC,Inc Address1 City, State Zip, other InfoDummy Corp Address1 City, State Zip, other Info...GeorgiaXYZ, Inc Address1 City, State Zip, other Info...etc ...This is a basic heirarchical listing. Can this be done with a singleT-SQL statement or are cursors needed? Thanks in advance."Excellence is achieved through 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration." Strange GROUP BY Statement Output

Oct 16, 2006

I am currently straching my head as to why the following doesn't work as I expect.
I have Three tables UsersManagers, Users and Bookings:-

SELECT MAX(UsersManagers.UsernameUser) AS UserID, SUM(Bookings.HoursTotal) AS NumHours
FROM UsersManagers
LEFT OUTER JOIN Users ON Users.Username = UsersManagers.UsernameUser
LEFT OUTER JOIN Bookings ON Bookings.Username = Users.Username
WHERE UsersManagers.UsernameManager = 'testPM1'
AND (Bookings.DateOfBooking BETWEEN '01 October 2006' AND '31 October 2006')
GROUP BY UsersManagers.UsernameUser

This statement returns only one username with the hours they have booked in my Bookings table. However the left outer joins (I would have thought) should return an entry even if there are no hours booked for a user. If I omit the Date Section:

SELECT MAX(UsersManagers.UsernameUser) AS UserID, SUM(Bookings.HoursTotal) AS NumHours
FROM UsersManagers
LEFT OUTER JOIN Users ON Users.Username = UsersManagers.UsernameUser
LEFT OUTER JOIN Bookings ON Bookings.Username = Users.Username
WHERE UsersManagers.UsernameManager = 'testPM1'
GROUP BY UsersManagers.UsernameUser

I get two records returned

Can You Have Multiple Output Parameters? Difference Between A Select Statement?

Mar 9, 2004

I have a user login scenario where I would like to make sure that they not only exist in the user table, but also make sure there account is "verified" and "active". I'm trying to return 3 output parameters. UserID, verified, active. Is this possible?

Do I need just a select statement to do this? What is the difference between the output and select statements?

Thanks in advance.

Hiding Or Removing Column Output From Select Statement

Feb 22, 2005

I'm executing the following...

select COL1, min(COL2) from TABLE group by COL1

the table has many duplicate entries, where COL2 is the primary key and unique, but its the duplicate COL1 entries that have to be removed.

I was hoping a simple
"delete from table where COL1 not in (select COL1, min(COL2) from TABLE group by COL1)"

would do the trick, but obviously in returning two columns from the subselect this won't work. Can I hide the COL2 output from the query that will be put in the subselect?

this is a one-off thing, so i'm not overly concerned about overhead or elegance. just need to make it so.

Select Statement That Will Output Related Rows With Different Column Data Per Row?

Apr 27, 2008

Is there a way to build a select statement that will output related rows with different column data per row? I want to return something like:

rowtype| ID | value
A | 123 | alpha
B | 123 | beta
C | 123 | delta
A | 124 | some val
B | 124 | some val 2
C | 124 | some val 3
etc...

where for each ID, I have 3 rows that are associated with it and with different corresponding values.

I'm thinking that I will have to build a temp table/cursor that will get all the ID data and then loop through it to insert each rowtype data into another temp table.

i.e. each ID iteration will do something like:
insert into #someTempTable (rowtype, ID, value) values ('A', 123, 'alpha')
insert into #someTempTable (rowtype, ID, value) values ('B', 123, 'beta')
insert into #someTempTable (rowtype, ID, value) values ('C', 123, 'delta')
etc..

After my loop, I will just do a select * from #someTempTable

Is there a better, more elegant way instead of using two temp tables? I am using MSSQL 2005

Stored Procedure With CURSOR OUTPUT Parameter, Using JDBC And A Callable Statement

Feb 13, 2007

My server is MS Sql Server 2005. I'm using com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver as the driver class. I've established a connection to the database.

I'm trying to invoke a stored procedure using JDBC and a callable statement. The stored procedure has a parameter @CurOut CURSOR VARYING OUTPUT. How do I setup the callable statement so the output parameter is accepted by the driver?

I'm not really trying to pass a cursor up to the database Server but I'm wanting a cursor back from the stored procedure that is other than the result set or other value the stored procedure returns.

First problem: What java.sql.Types (or SQL Server specific) value do I specify for the out parameter I'm registering on the CallableStatement?

Second problem: What do I set the value of the parameter to?

The code looks like:

CallableStatement cstmt = myConnection.prepareCall(sQuery);

cstmt.registerOutParameter(1, Types.OTHER); // What is the right type?

cstmt.setNull(1, Types.OTHER); // What is the right type?

if (cstmt.execute()) {

ResultSet rs = cstmt.getResultSet();

}

Execution results in a NullPointerException from the driver.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your assistance.

SQL Server 2012 :: Using Merge Statement Output Records To Rebuild Table On Specific Date

Mar 5, 2015

I have a table which is updated daily using a MERGE statement. As records are insert, updated and deleted, I am saving the OUTPUT from the MERGE statement into a history table with a timestamp and action$ column appended to the record.

Using this history table, I'd like to rebuild the data based on specific past date. I was able to create a stored procedure that inspects each record in the history table and apply it to the data in a temp table. The stored procedure solution uses multiple queries to rebuild the data at a point in time. I was curious if there was an easier and more efficient solution using a table function.

SQL Query Output To XML Using BCP HELP!!

Aug 24, 2007

I am having trouble in writing code to save the SQL query output to an XML file.

A simple example like below is working fine and it creates an output a.xml.

------Begin Code-----
Declare @fNameTemp varchar(50)
Declare @SQL varchar(3000)
Set @fNameTemp = 'c:XMLDumpa.xml'

Set @SQL = 'bcp "Select top 10 * From test..month For XML Auto, Elements" QueryOut "' + @fNameTemp + '" -c -t, -T -S'
Exec master..xp_cmdshell @SQL
------End Code ------

But I am having trouble in writing when I change the Select query to a more complex one as in the example below. The code is part of SP.

------Begin Code-----
USE [test]
GO
Declare @TblName1 varchar(10)
Declare @TblName2 varchar(10)
Declare @District varchar(6)
Declare @Month varchar(3)
Declare @TblType varchar(10)
Declare @Thisyear varchar(10)
Declare @Lastyear varchar(10)

SET @TblName1 = '2006exp'
SET @TblName2 = '2005exp'
SET @District = 1
SET @Month = 2
SET @TblType = 'exp1'
set @Thisyear = '2006'
set @Lastyear = '2005'

set @TblName1 = '[' + @TblName1 + ']'
set @TblName2 = '[' + @TblName2 + ']'
set @TblType = '[' + @TblType + ']'

Declare @fNameTemp varchar(50)
SET @fNameTemp = 'C:XMLDump2.xml'
Declare @SQuery nvarchar(3000)

SET @SQuery = 'bcp "Select d.descrip_1 as [Commodity Description], ty.HS4, ty.Amount1 as ['+ @ThisYear +' Value ($)], (ty.Amount1/ty.Total1)*100 as ['+ @ThisYear +' Share (%)] ,
py.Amount2 as ['+ @LastYear +' Value ($)], (py.Amount2/py.Total2)*100 as ['+ @LastYear +' Share (%)]
FROM
(Select top 10 a.commodity1 as HS4, Sum(a.all_val_mo) as Amount1,
(select Sum(a1.all_val_mo) FROM test..' + @TblName1 + ' a1 where a1.stat_month <=' + @Month + ' and a1.district=' + @District +' ) as Total1
FROM test..' + @TblName1 + ' a where a.stat_month <=' + @Month + ' and a.district=' + @District +'
Group by a.commodity1 Order by Amount1 DESC) ty
JOIN
(Select b.commodity1 as HS4, Sum(b.all_val_mo) as Amount2,
(select Sum(b1.all_val_mo) FROM test..' + @TblName2 + ' b1 where b1.stat_month <=' + @Month + ' and b1.district=' + @District +' ) as Total2
FROM test..' + @TblName2 + ' b where b.stat_month <=' + @Month + ' and b.district=' + @District +'
Group by b.commodity1) py on ty.HS4=py.HS4 LEFT OUTER JOIN '+ @TblType +' d on ty.HS4=d.commodity1
Order by Amount1 DESC FOR XML AUTO, Elements" QueryOut "' + @fNameTemp + '" -c -t, -T -S'

Exec master..xp_cmdshell @SQuery
------End Code ------

Output for above code is shown below:
usage: bcp {dbtable | query} {in | out | queryout | format} datafile
[-m maxerrors] [-f formatfile] [-e errfile]
[-F firstrow] [-L lastrow] [-b batchsize]
[-n native type] [-c character type] [-w wide character type]
[-N keep non-text native] [-V file format version] [-q quoted identifier]
[-C code page specifier] [-t field terminator] [-r row terminator]
[-i inputfile] [-o outfile] [-a packetsize]
[-S server name] [-U username] [-P password]
[-T trusted connection] [-v version] [-R regional enable]
[-k keep null values] [-E keep identity values]
[-h "load hints"] [-x generate xml format file]
NULL

I don't know what is the mistake I am doing. I would appreciate if anyone can help me figure the error.

The above query works perfectly if I remove BCP & For XML Auto part. Here is a screen shot of Successful query results.

Reformatting Output From A Query

Jul 26, 2004

Hey everyone,

as of now i have a sql chunk

Code:

SELECT VIEW.DWG_NAME
FROM VIEW, qry_TURNOVER
WHERE (((VIEW.ID)=[qry_TURNOVER].[CURRENT_ID]));

which works but when i get the results it orders them according to number ( or what seems to be in the order of ID), and i need it in the order that it appears in the column CURRENT_ID

If that is not clear This is what is happening

For example, we have:

qry_TURNOVER
CURRENT_ID
4
5
1
3

VIEW
ID DWG_NAME
1 23g
2 24H
3 25J
4 26K
5 27L

As it stands,The results auto format to:

23G
25H
26K
27L

I need the results to be:

26k
27L
23G
25J

Hope that was clear, any ideas? Im not sure if this is even possible. Any hints or tips to a solution would be much appreciated. The reason why current ID is unordered is because its has other data in its table that is ordered via that way. So current ID cannot be orderd to match out out, it must be the other way around.

Thanks
Doc
