Can Connect To Database, But How Do I Insert Values Into SQL Database?

I was able to connect to the SQL Database Pension with table clients with table values: ID, State, Name.

However, I'm not sure how to insert a new row with an incremental ID number and a new State and Name.
Ok what i am looking to do i cannot figure out. What i want to do is have a simple script that when a user logs onto the website (via windows auth) to get there username somehow llike with Request.ServerVariables("LOGON_USER") that should display there username either "domain/name" or "username" and then insert that into the UserLogs Table under my database with the date with the GETDATE() command.. But when i do this i cannot get the page to auto submit the values. Actually i cannot get anything to write to the DB unless i am doing it under the query builder. Here is my Query that i was using. I want that the user can chose several options from one ‘listbox’, and to do this, I have created two ‘listbox’, in the first one there are the options to select, and the second one is empty. Then, in order to select the options I want the user have select one or more options from the first ‘listbox’ and then click in a link to pass the options selected to the second ‘listbox’. Thus, the valid options selected will be the text and values in the second ‘listbox’. I have seen this system in some websites, and I think it is very clear.
Well, my question is, Is it possible to insert into the database all the values from a ‘listbox’ control? In my case from the second ‘listbox’ with all the values passed from the first one? If yes, in my database table I have to create one column (field) for every possible selected option?
Hello, my problem is that I have 2 textboxes and when the user writes somthing and clicks the submit button I want these values to be stored in a database table. I have a function that updates a table in sql server If a field is left blank I want the database field set to Null. I use:sqlCmd.Parameter.Add("@somefield, someintvalue) to pass all my values to the database. if someintvalue is null I want to set @somefield to dbnull How can I do this? I get errors if I submit a null integer when there is a foreign key constraint. What is the best way to handle this? should I just make all parameters objects? so that I can set them to DBNull.Value? Also on a side note, when you are populating fields from a datatable, is there a better way to set the values (i.e. of a textbox) than cheking for DBNull before assigning?

I am creating a website. i have completed the GUI. i have labels on the left side of the form and a text box for each of those labels on the right side of the form. i have the two dropdown boxes that you have helped me create and bind. now im stuck on how to start the code to get this all working. i know what i need it to do (pseudocode) but dont know how to write the code for it. these books and online sources, really dont say where to put things, they just give examples, not stating where to place it. I am using a SQL database called Manufacturers i would like to insert or update, but not delete records wtih this tool pixelsyndicate mentioned using the GUI to do the code for me, would love to know how to do this. any help would be awesome, or any good beginner resources would help too
Hi, it is few days I posted here my question, but received no answer. Maybe the problem is just my problem, maybe I put my question some strange way. OK, I try to put it again, more simply. I have few textboxes, their values I need to transport to database. I set SqlDataSource, parameters... and used SqlDataSource.Insert() method. I got NULL values in the database's record. So I tried find problem by using Microsoft's sample code from address http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.ui.webcontrols.sqldatasource.insert.aspx. After some changes I tried that code and everything went well, data were put into database. Next step was to separate code beside and structure of page to two separate files followed by new test. Good again, data were delivered to database. Next step: to use MasterPage, very simple, just with one ContentPlaceHolder. After this step the program stoped to deliver data to database and delivers only NULLs to new record. It is exactly the same problem which I have found in my application. I have an application that creates a new database during installation,and I've noticed some strange behavior. Once I've created thedatabase, I am able to immediately create tables and populate lookupdata, provided I remain connected to the server. If, however, Idisconnect and attempt to reconnect immediately, I'll get an errorsaying that my login is invalid for the new database.I can get around this by having my code simply wait 5 seconds beforeattempting to reconnect, but I'm curious to see if anybody here cangive an explaination for why this is happening. I executed the Form_Kimmel.vb and I got no errors. But I did not get the new values insterted in the table "Custermers" of Northwind database. Please help and tell me what I did wrong and how to correct this problem.
I actually work in an organisation and we have to find a solution about the data consistancy in the database. our partners use to send details to the organisation and inserted directly in the database, so we want to create a new database as a buffer database to insert informations from the partners then make an update to the main database. is there a better solution instead of that?

I receive the input file with some 100 columns and some 20k+ rows and I want to check the incoming input row is existed in the database or not based on 2 key columns. If the row is existed then I need to check all the columns (nearly 100 columns) values in input and the database are equal or not. If both are equal I need to treat them seperately if not there is a seperate logic. How Can I do that check for each row and for each column?
Basically the algorithm is like this, if the input file row is not existed in the database then treat that as new row else if the input row is existed in the database then check all the columns are equal or not. If all the columns are equal then treat that as existing row and do nothing else if some columns are not equal then treat this row seperately.
I found some thing to achieve the above thing. 1. Take the input row and check in the database. 2. If the row is not found in the database then treat it as new row. 3. If row is found in the database then a) Take the source row and prepare a concatenated string for all the columns b) Take the database row and prepare a concatenated string for all the columns c) Find out the hash code for the 2 strings and then compare hash codes for equal.
The disadvantage of this is running a loop 2*m*n times where m is the number of rows and n is the number of columns. It should be done 2 times for input file row and database row.
Can anybody suggest a good method to do this?
What does the function "GetHashCode" for InputBuffer in method "Public Overrides Sub Input0_ProcessInputRow(ByVal Row As Input0Buffer)" will do? Will it generates hash code based on all the columns values?

We have different databases on the same server: Whrs001, Whrs002, etc. All databases have the same structure.

I need to inserts data in "location" tables of different databases. But these inserts needs to be across databases. For example from the "Whrs003" database I need to insert data (location_id=123, location_name='markham') in "location" table of "Whrs001" database.

What would be the actual insert statement in this case? And what things i neeed to take care fo to make sure it always execute successfully?

I have a web form with a text field that needs to take in as much as the user decides to type and insert it into an nvarchar(max) field in the database behind. I've tried using the new .write() method in my update statement, but it cuts off the text after a while. Is there a way to insert/update in SQL 2005 this without resorting to Bulk Insert? It bloats the transaction log and turning the logging off requires a call to sp_dboptions (or a straight-up ALTER DATABASE), which I'd like to avoid if I can.
table2 is intially populated (basically this will serve as historical table for view); temptable and table2 will are similar except that table2 has two extra columns which are insertdt and updatedt

Ok I have several sites on a server that have connected to databases on a different server for a long. Out of the blue today none of the sites on the server can connect to any databases on the other server. Hello, I have posted awhile ago about this issue, but after taking the advice and trying to get help from GoDaddy, nothing has worked yet. I am using the user login control, and then I changed the connection string in the web config file according to what Go Daddy's help file said, making sure to make proper server, id, and password names. I recently uninstalled SQL Server due to connection issues I started having. I could start the DB and connect/edit tables in Ent Mgr etc, but all the sudden, none of my code could make DB connections.
So, after reinstalling now nothing works. I cannot even connect in Ent. Manager. I went to Administrative Tools->Services to make sure it was running, and SQLSERVER isn't even listed under services. What happened? Is there another step after installing SQL Server I missed to get the service up and going. Do I need to do something in ODBC connections?
Hello I am new to the ASP.NET project and using Microsoft ASP.Net Web Matrix. When I try to connect to an Access Database it is no problem, but do I try to set up an connection with a SQL or MSDE database there is a problem.
It can not connect with my SQL server and gives the error: Could not create new database.
What can be the problem. My MSSQL Server is running perfect.
