Can Install SSDT Without Any Visual Studio Installed
May 28, 2015
Just wanted to find if there is a way i can install SSDT without a Visual studio Install in the machine?I intend to use sqlpackages.exe which is from SSDT for publishing a dacpac, and do not intend to install any Visual Studio for this purpose.
In VisualStudio 2012 in C# projects when you double-click on a identifier (variable name, class name, etc) then all occurrences of that sting in the current file are highlighted.
It doesn't work in SQLServer projects in sql files. It is a shame that although we are in VisualStudio we are still limited in functionality.
it's been a while since i installed sql2005, but doesn't visual studio get installed at the same time? all the servers that i installed sql2005 on have visual studio on them too. the sysadmins think having VS on the servers is a security risk and want to remove it. if we remove VS from the servers, will that impact SQL Server 2005?
I'm using an install of MSSQL that comes packaged with VS Enterprise Developer and it comes with all the tools but I can't connect to the db via Windows Auth or MSSQL Auth.
Here's what I see: From Enterprise Manager I can luanch Query Analyzer and access all the db's. But if I click File->Connect and try using Windows Authentication or an existing MSSQL account to connect via SQL Auth, its a no go. Is this functionality missing in this release of MSSQL. Do I really have to buy the full fledged version just to develop an MSSQL driven web application?
I am trying to install VS2005 Standard Edition on W2k Sp4. This install fails on the first part when MDAC 2.8 Sp1 tries to install. I am logged on as ADMINISTRATOR with admin rights. I tried to install MDAC 2.8 sp1 alone with the same result. Can you help?
I'm very confused. I installed Visual Studio 2005 and thought I understood that SQL Server 2005 came with it, but it appears that it's SQL Server 2005 - Express. Can anyone tell me what I need to do in order to get Data Transformation Services loaded or the equivalent of DTS in SQL Express?
I installed Sql 2005 on a Win2003, Sp1 platform. Some problems but nothing too big. Next I attempted to install VS 2005 (June) CTP. The install faled and here's the error log:
hello, i´d like to work with (first learn) all features of the SQL Server Express Advanced Service and Visual Basic 2005 (incl. Connect SQL Server databases from Visual Studio/ VB2005). Before I´ll make a mistake with the install (the numerous versions make me confused) I´d like to ask you which is the correct way to install both: 1) Should I first install SQLServer Express Advanced Service and then Visual Studio (Visual Basic without SQLServerExpress - if it´s possible switch off this compound) ?? or 2) Install Visual Studio Express (I´ve got the DVD from Microsoft) with (or without ?) the SQLServerExpress Edition and then upgrade to the SQLServer Express Advanced Service by starting the SSE Advanced-Service setup-file ?? thank you very much in advance
I have a sql express .mdf that is located in c:appdirectorymydb.mdf whilst developing an application. During development my connection string uses the above path to connect to the db. e.g.
I have published the app using click once in visual studio.net which places the db in : C:Documents and Settingsuser.nameLocal SettingsApps2.0DataJN1WL1DJ.X7B ... 08ed2810aab2abData
When i am executing the application following a clickonce install, what should I use in my connection string for the path to the db ? or where can I find the above path (e.g. in the registry) so that I can provide it to the connection string ?
Alternatively, can I specify where the DB is going to be installed (via click once). e.g. in my app directory under program files ?
I have tried searching what seems like everywhere for a solution to this problem and as a last resort thought it worth posting the question.
Over the weekend, I loaded the SQL Server SP2 on to my production database after having it on my dev server for two weeks with out any problems.
After I did this, I went to check all my SSIS packages and found them not able to load. I get this message €œMicrosoft Visual Studio is unable to load this document: The package failed to load due to error 0xC0010014 €œOne or more error occurred. There should be more specific errors preceding this one that explains the details of the errors. This message is used as a return value from functions that encounter errors€?. This occurs when CPackage::LoadFromXML fails.
Hi Friends, I have a question. At my home computer i downloaded and installed VWD. As usual it also installed Sqlexpress as part of the installation(i checked the option). Later on i downloaded Management studio separately so i am fine with my home computer as every thing is free. But at work we decided to develop application using VS 2005 and Sqlserver 2005. So we bought and installed VS2005 professional edition at work and it also installed Sqlexpress during the installation as a defualt desktop engine. I am fine with that too. But i am not understing where do i get the Management studio? Is it some thing i could get it off the web for free or what? I am not sure we would have an option while installing the VS 2005 professional that also does install management studio and we need to check that option. I am not sure if we could get the management studion off the web for free and and evelop applications.
The program shortcut "Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt" seems to be mising from the "Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt" Start menu added by the current Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Toolkit. Where is it? How to workaround?
I am trying to do Download details SQL Server 2005 Samples and Sample Databases (April 2006) -> GettingStartedWithSQLSamples.htm which says "a. Open a Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 command prompt. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, point to Visual Studio Tools, and then click Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt." but I can find no such command prompt within "Visual Studio Tools", only "Visual Studio 2005 Remote Debugger{, Configuration Wizard}".
What's wrong? How to fix or workaround? I'd install .NET SDK 2.0 to get it's Command Prompt but that's about 570MB merely for a command prompt!
(1) I have already installed of SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition first.
(1) Can I install visual studio 2008 without the 2005 express edition of SQL server? Will be any problems because I don't have express edition of SQL server? Do I need to install the express edition of SQL server as well?
(3) How to use SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition instance on visual studio 2008?
I have a database in my "App_Data" folder of my visual studio project. I can view it fine in Visual Studio's built-in tools for managing a database attached to a solution. However i recently started playing around with the SQL Server Management Studio Express program. When i attach my database to Management Studio, and try to run my program it crashes. I think it might be a permissions error?!? When i detatch it and reattach it in visual studio it runs fine again. Any suggestions? ThanksJason
I recently installed the Evaluation Edition of SQL Server 2005 x64 and it appears that MS Visual Studio 2005 is installed in stead of SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio. When I choose new project the only template available is "Blank Solution". How do I get all the templates (i.e. Analysis Server Project, Integration Services Project, Report Model Project, Report Server Wizard project, etc.)?
Or would it be better to uninstall MS Visual Studio 2005 and attempt to reinstall BIDS?
I am new to visual studio and I am still not sure of all its components and features.
I installed visual studio 2005 standard edition but cannot find SQL Server Management Studio?
I guess this must be because it is not included with Visual studio 2005 standard. Is it included with VS 2005 professional?
I want to add pictures of products to my shopping site using an SQL database and I’ve been told that SQL Server Management studio is required as it is a graphical tool.
How would I go about obtaining the SQL server management studio. There seems to be different versions of SQL server that it is confusing to know which one to purchase.
Will the SQL server 2005 version that comes with Visual studio standard be sufficient for me now right? I want to create a shopping site with hundreds, perhaps even thousands of products. I want to use an SQL server 2005 database. The database will include ‘dynamically generated’ product images if that is the correct terminology.
My goodness, it seems I still have so much to learn.
I have created a database under management studio and i want it to be connected in visual studio but it failed the error msgs said that the database can't be connected coz the database with same name exits but that is not true
How do i get the database that i am using in visual studio into my SQL server management studio? i need to create some scripts to create stored procedures on a live server.
I have SSRS in Visual Studio. I created a query that works fine in SQL Server Management Studio, but when pasted into Visual Studio I get the error "An expression of non-boolean type specified in a context where a condition is expected, near '('.
Here is the query. Can anyone help on why this isn't working? Thanks.

I have installed SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition from the MDSN May 2006 DVD. After installation, the SQL Server 2005 item under Start | All Programs has only one entry: Configuration Tools. Management Studio does not show up. Add/Remove Programs does not show any previous versions of SQL Server 2005 or Express installed. (I did have earlier versions at some point in the past, but they've all been uninstalled).
I saw other forum questions relating to a similar problem with CTP versions of SQL Server 2005, but the solutions do not seem to be applicable in my case -- i.e., they all seem to have to do with uninstalling earlier beta versions, but I don't have any earlier versions to uninstall, as I said. They also said the problem would be fixed in the released version.
I have just installed SQL Server 64x on Vista 64 but when I try to find the server in SQL Management Studio nothing appears to connect to. I did run the program to make my Vista login a SQL Admin. Any ideas why?
I recently installed a complete version of SQL Server 2005 on a PC running VISTA. Everything installed as expected except for "SQL Server Managment Studio" which is not to be found anywhere.
I also had previously installed SQL Server 2005 Express and "SQL Server Managment Studio Express". The "Express" versions are still installed.
Uninstalling from VISTA and installing on a much slower and much less capable Windows XP PC was successful. Uninstalling from the XP PC and reinstalling on the VISTA platform resulted in the same unsatisfactory results.
How do I get "SQL Server Managment Studio" to work with VISTA?
Good day,Can SQL Server tools (QA, EM) can be installed on a client machine froma full SQL Server installation on a server? I can't find the CD.Thanks for your time.Eric
I'm new to SQL Express and from the SQL Express DOWNLOAD page you need to install .NET Framework 2 then install SQL Express. After installing .NET Framework 2.0 I then attempt to install SQL Express and I get a message that SQL Server 2005 Setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio, .NET Framework or SQL Server 2005. I used the Visual Studio removal tool and it took out .NET Framwork. I re-installed this and did a reboot and get the SAME ISSUE! CAN ANYONE GET ME OUT OF THIS MS loop nightmare.
I am aware that instances of both can exist on the same machine.
But I assume that is when a different instance of SQL Server Express is installed with an existing instance of MSDE2000
Many moons ago, when the various flavours and betas of SQL Express became available, I upgraded from MSDE2000 - didn't think I would need it again.
I now have an application, Sony Vegas 6, which uses MSDE2000 for it's Media Manager. According to their support it won't install to SQL Server Express 2005.
When I try to install MSDE2000, it always fails with "Setup failerd to configure server..." and rolls back.
In the event log, there is an entry
The description for Event ID ( 19011 ) in Source ( MSSQL$SONY_MEDIAMGR ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: (SpnRegister) : Error 1355.
I have down all the usual things like uninstalling SQL Server Express 2005 (using control panel and msiexec /x {GUID}), patching the registry etc etc
The result is always the same.
The Sony Media Manager is not important and I probably won't use it but it's annoying the hell out of me - I've always claimed, over a good few years, that there was no computer problem that I couldn't finally solve, but presently this has got me beat and I feel undone!!!!!!! :-)
I have a Cluster environment that has SQL 2000 Enterprise installed. I would like to install SQL 2005 Enterprise as well. What should I watch out for. Do I need to specify a named instance for the 05 install, setup is giving me the option and does see the 2000 instance? Is there a document that walks through this installation?
In the past I've used MSDE with Visual Studio.NET 2003. I'm going to start studying for an MCP in SQL Server 2000 so I'll probably get SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition. Will I be able to install this on my PC if it already has MSDE installed, or will I need to remove MSDE, etc? If there are any other things I need to be aware of please let me know. Also should I stick with SQL Server 2000 while studying for the exam, or would I probably be able to use SQL Server 2005 with a book that uses SQL Server 2000? I don't know how different they are.
