Can Not Connect To SQL Server 2000 On Windows Authentication Mode

Hello everyone,
We have SQL server 2000 on windows 2000. From our desktop MS Access was connected to database through ODBC. Since yesterday (after our consultant had updated another asp application in the same server) we are getting €œSQL Server Error: 18452. €¦.. Login failed for user €˜(null)€™. Reason: not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. €œ
The consultant saying he did not touch any settings on server (?). And the problem is even server€™s security property shows it has mixed mode authentication. But I cannot connect to server even through my SQL server enterprise manager in windows authentication mode. I can connect if I use SQL server authentication. Through ODBC I can connect also and test fine, if I use SQL authentication. But the Access application wouldn€™t connect using SQL authentication in ODBC.
So, can any one help me to find out what else could be done to make sure that the server is going to accept windows authentication. I€™m thinking any other settings or registry change €¦ etc. Please help.

Just spoke w/ our network admin and he mentioned that we use SPI, so being brand new to ASP, i did some googling and found this string:
the username and password is the account i have for the database, which is windows authentication, so i made sure the domain was in there. i am unsure of what i am doing wrong.

Hallo there,
I just upgraded from Windows XP Pro to Windows Vista Bussiness and tried to reinstall SQL Server 2005 Developers Edition. After the installation i downloaded (using microsoft windows update) and installed all the service packs for sql and vista available.
My problem is when i open sql server management studio and try to connect to my default instance using windows authentication and database engine, an 18456 error occurs.
I enabled all the protocols and all the ports
I disabled windows firewall and antivirus (eset nod32)
I installed all service packs available
I have also installed Visual Studio 2005 without installing sqlexpress
But nothing happens!
Please i am very desperate, any information will be gratefully accepted.

I am trying to create a query that can determine if a user id is using mixed mode/windows/both authentication. I need to do this so that it can run on both sql server 2000 and 2005, meaning I can't use any of the sys.* views. Is there a single query could use for both systems?

We have see login failures for windows accounts. Below is the error message.
Description: In our env most logins are windows accounts. Initially we thought it is an UAC issue and we tried to launch the SSMS using "Run as Administrator". However, we are seeing login failures.
Enviroment:
Microsoft SQL Server 2014 - 12.0.2402.0 (X64)
RTM Enterprise Edition (HyperVisor)
Error Message in Error Log :

If i create a database in sql express in windows authentication mode, the database owner is in the format of 'MACHINENAMEUSERNAME'. If i connect this database to iis server i got login failed error message.
This is my connection string in my web.config :
Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=True;Initial Catalog=dbsgh;Data Source=software92sqlexpress
I solved this problem by creating a login in sqlexpress called 'software92/aspnet' and creating a user for my database named aspnet under 'software92/aspnet' login. Then i changed the usrename in directory security of my iis virtual directory to 'software92/aspnet'.
This solves my problem. But i think i m solving this problem in a wrong way.
I think i should create that database under default owner. Who is the default owner?
I dont know the correct procedure to solve this.

its something very complicated to understand my issue.
i am receiving the above error message when i tried to login with using windows accout to connect to SQL server Instance using client tool.
ok Let me start step by step.
1) Initially we have one box using windows 2000 (OS) and having SQL Server 2000.
2) Here on SQL Server instance i have created windows account login and gave permissions to one of the database on that instance.
3) this windows account is in the right domain and also in the same domain
4) when i right click on Management Studio on the different machine --> Run As--> enter the windows account --> select the above Sql server instance.then connect
5) Here i am not able to connect to the sql server.
the below error generates when i press the connect button

if we gave the full permission to connect to box with this windows account then i am able to connect the sql server instance, otherwise its not allowing me to connect to the Sql server instance.

i have followed the same as above with same windows account login.
Here i am able to connect to the SQL Server Instance and also this windows account donot have permission to connet the box.
Anybody have idea about this issue???
if the SQL server 2000 doesnot have the option to connect remotely. unless that windows account have the full permissions to box.

I am not able to connect to SQL Database server using windows authentication when I am connected through VPN connection.However I am able to connect to same server using SQL server authentication and also able to do RDP to DB server machine.
I found a resolution in one of the forum suggesting to change UserRasCredentials to 0 value in *.pdk file.Since VPN connection which I am using generates instant proxy this resolution doesn't work.
Also application which I am using does windows authentication connection it is required for me to impersonate windows authetication when connected using VPN.

I have another question now.
As the topic said, my sql server 2000 installed on windows xp sp2, the computer's name is "ADMIN" and the server 2000's name is "ADMIN".
When i startup the sql server 2000, it just listening on shared memory and name pipes, not including the "TCP/IP" . So i can not connect to the sql server using the port 1433.
Some people said that the reason was the system's firewall. I also found some supports on the websites 'www.support.microsoft.com'. It said that you can set the port 1433 or the sqlservr.exe to the execption. I also do that, but still not works.
Is there any things i forget and how can i solve the problems! Thanks for advances.

I'm working on deploying an ASP.NET 2.0 app onto a Windows 2003 server and I'm having trouble with SQL 2000 authentication. When I run my app from my development box running IIS 5.1 I have no problems. In order to get it to work on my this machine, I had set the account for anonymous access to run under an ASPNETDOMAIN account and configured my SQL database to allow this account.On the Windows 2003 box with IIS 6.0, I've done the same thing with anonymous access for the web app, and also created an application pool that the app runs under and have set the application pool to run under the same account. I am having a problem connecting my .net applications from the application server to the database server. When I run the application from my windows xp (sp2) box it works fine. When I try to connect via SQL Management Studio to the database server from the application server I get the same error.
Here is the error:

Here is the Environment:
App Server:
Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
Inside Company's Firewall/ Network
Database Server:
Windows Server 2000 Advanced Edition
SQL Server 2000 SP4
Remote Connections to the Server is checked
Enable Protocols: Named Pipes & TCP/IP
TCP/IP Port: 1402 (I don't know why it isn't the default of 1433)
The db server is sitting out side the Company's firewall (don't ask me why). I can access it fine from inside the firewall on my XP box but not from windows server 2003. There is a web server outside the our network that also connects to the db server with no problem and that is running Windows Server 2003 Web Edition.
I can ping the db server from the app server using the IP address.
I tried using the IP address and the port 1402 in my connection string but that didn't work from any machine (XP and Server).
I imagine the issue is somehow related to the company's firewall but why would it only block Windows Server 2003 and not XP?
What do I tell the network admin to change?
Any help would be appreciated.

Having problems connecting to SQL Server Express using 'sa' account and having read threds re problem and MS, advice is that Authenticaion mode needs to be set to both Windows and SQL. I have studio express installed and go to Security from the properties of the Server to change this option to use both authentication modes, however the options are greyed out!
Can anyone advise pse.
And will amending this option help me to enable the sa login which is refused at the moment, error as follows:

Hi.
I wonder if it is possible to set forms authentication for report manager but leave report server "as it is". I need to authenticate users from external LDAP and can't use windows authentication for report manager, but I would also like to leave report server open for anonymous users. In that way authenticated administrators could create reports which anonymous users could read.
I tested the Security Extension Sample and got it working when I rewrote the authentication part with my own LDAP authentication.
If I have understood correctly, the report manager is just application inside report server so is it possible to use forms authentication with one application but still leave the report server with Windows authentication?

Some package has connection to remote SQL Server 2005 by SQL server authentication mode (not windows).
In the connection property I have setted "save my password", but I have found that after a while the connection is missed and I have to make the Logon. this happen always to random.
Do you know how to keep the connection persistent?

Just like with Access DB, can we set password for database in SQL Server 2005 Express ?
Reason to do so is, user with Login having sysadmin previliage can acess all databases in SQL server.
so just want to restrict database access to only those users who knows the password.
Is there any possible solution ? Pls comment.

I would like to find out how the SQL server option changed to Windows Authentication mode from Mixed mode over the weekend. From the SQL log, I don't see when it changed. I would like to see Date/Time and client IP. If I can see User ID (windows) that would be great. Where I can find these info in SQL server?

I am reading a book published by APress about ASP .NET with C# and I am at the point where I get to begin working with data (fun!!). The problem is that I’m not able to connect to the SQL Server. I have Server 2003 and SQL Server 2005 running on a separate machine than the computer that I use for development – the server is named THESERVER, the SQL server is named THESQLSERVER, and the computer I use for development is my laptop named MYLAPTOP. I have an asp.net page which accesses a sql server database (on another server).
I am trying to use impersonation to impersonate the domain user accessing the page and use the credentials to access the sql server using a windows login. I have windows authentication checked in IIS settings am using the following web.config:<configuration>

I can connect fine when i open the page on the IIS server but from other machines, whilst logged in as the same domain user I get the error:

Hello,
I'm writing some software for clients and the connection is done via de username passwd methode, not windows authentication. One of the salespeople is creating FUD now, talking about a "major security leak" because, if someone has the username / password, he can view the data in the mssql database. ( seems normal to me for a username/password combination - winNT or not - but this news can be shocking to the uninitiated)
Is there any paper on his comprehensionlevel that deals with this issue?
Or you've got an opinion on this?
