Iam running sql sever 2005 express with advanced services but when i try to launch sql sever management studio express, i get the following message message and i have no idea why.
unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. If you click continue the application will ignore the this error and attempt to continue .
Can not create a stable key under a volatile parent key.

It then provides a whole pile of (to the absolute beginner) mumbo-jumbo under a details button.
It does provide the option to continue, whereupon everything appears normal; however, I consider this rather unwise at my very first opening of Management Studio Express.
I have created a databse in VB Express (I have completed the Lesson 09 Video) dealing with databinding - I created the application etc with the video to enhance my learning.
Should this affect it? It's the only database I have created.
This looks to me (my Express illiteracy intact, of course) like the kind of message one would get after having an error in something already created or in the process of being created.
What is this? I was going to begin the video tutorials for SQL, but not with this message.
I have only just installed the Express 'suite' a few days ago.
When starting Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio after installing it from the SQL 2005 Enterprise disk, I get the error cannot create a stable subkey under a volatile parent keyI click Continue and the get another warning boxFailed to open connection dialog. Hi team I'm getting the below error when starting SQL Server Management Studio Express. I've previously had Visual Studio 2008 Express and SQL Express Server installed and they have been working happily together.
If I continue past this error message I can't see any of the databases I've created through Visual Studio, any help would be much appreciated!!!

I would like some help in uploading a database from my harddrive to a server using sql server management studio express.
If I try to attach it to the server, this program only looks at the files on this server and not on my harddrive. So how can I copy a sql database to my folder on the server.
I am sure it must be a simple problem, but I've been bizzy with it for about a day now. So, please advice.
Our server currently has the following components installed for SQL Server 2005: 1. SQL Server Management Studio Express and 2. Configuration Tools (SQL Server Configuration Manager, SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting, and SQL Server Service Area Configuration).

My server was up and running but I'm having trouble creating a new datbase connection so was troubleshooting and maybe i did something i wasnt' suppose to :-( I still have the problem for creating a db connection and now my server doesn't want to start! Please helpppp!!!
I have wrriten many stored procedures in the past without issue, but this is my first time using SQL Server Management Studio Express. I am having trouble creating a new stored procedure. Here is what's happening: I am opening my database, right clicking on "Stored Procedures" and selecting "New Stored Procedure". A new window opens with a template for creating a stored procedure. The window is called: "SQLEXPRESS.DBName - sqlquery1.sql". I then type up my stored procedure without an issue. However, when I go to save the stored procedure it wants to save it as a separate file in a projects folder. It does not become part of the DB (as far as I can tell). When I used to use Enterprise Manager (not an option anymore) this never happened. I'm sure I'm doing something dumb. Can someone enlighten me. Thanks,Chris
I installed SQL Server Express 2005 and was able to install the sample databases. I have been working through the on-line tutorial. In Lesson 4 of the tutorial it instructs you to select File, New, Project. However, when I select File, New there is no Project choice listed. Have I failed to install something correctly?
I apologize up front since this question seems so basic but I'm really running into difficulty with it. Should there be a Visual Studio Express program to launch under Start - All Programs or do you simply have to select one of the pieces such as Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition? I have seen documentation telling the user to launch Visual Studio Express yet I have nothing for that. Also, since I'm trying to become familiar with Reporting Services I suspect it's somewhere I haven't located yet, leading me to believe perhaps I'm missing something very, very basic. I want to connect to a SQL server from my workstation using the application in the Subject, but I need to connect as a different Windows user. Basically, I login to my workstation with my "Joe User" account, but for servers I used my "Joe Admin" account for security purposes. However, the Management console autofills in my workstation username when I select "Windows authentication" for the connection, and grays out the username/password fields so that I cannot specify another set of credentials.
Is there a way to change this behavior? Otherwise I will need to termserv into a server using my administrative account, install the management software there, and then begin the process. That is a lot of unecessary overhead that I would like to avoid.
I have had SQL express installed and working ok, however, I can no longer connect
OS: XP sp2.0
.net installed ver1.1 .. 2.0 sp1, 3.0sp1 and 3.5
The install of SQL was using the SQLEXR_adv download
I have removed SQL and all associated applications folders and windows SQL services
I have re-installed many times but always receive the same issue.
I re-built the .net 2.0

I'm trying to run the disk usage reports from the SQL Server Management Studio and I'm getting an error. I right-click on a database, go to Reports, then Standard Reports and select Disk Usage by Table. I get the error below. Can anyone help?

When launching Microsfot SQL Server Management Studio Express, I get a Popup Error box (!) without any text. After pressing the OK button, everything seems to work fine. Any ideas as to what it's trying to tell me?
Yesterday I successfully installed Microsoft Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition which included SQL Server 2005 Express. Today I noticed I needed to download the Management Studio seperate download. I downloaded SQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi and executed it and get the following error:

Solved my own problem. Once I moved the msi to C: the installation worked. Apparently the path it was in was too long causing it to be unreadable. c:xxxxxxxxSQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msiSQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi.
tried to attach a database in sse-ms, and for some reason the database name is changing to G:someFoldersomeFolderdb.mdf, even tho i dont have a drive g:,
during "attach as" screens inside sse-ms, , ie attach>add> then select the database the mdf loction is what it is suppose to be ie C:inetpubwwwrootapp_datachp11wroxunited.mdf but the database name in the same screen shot is G:someOtherFolderAndPathwroxunited.mdf and the attach as is also the G:someOtherFolderAndPathwroxunited.mdf.
After installing SQL Server 2005 Express Edition on Windows Vista RC1, I wanted to install also the Managent Studio but I always receive the following error message:

I have SQL Express 2005 SP2 installed in my Vista Home Premium. I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express to manage .mdf.
When I click "Add..." to attach .mdf database, I have this prompt error message :

I have elevated the rights, "Run as administrator", of my SQL Server Management Studio Express, but still having problem.

I have a database in my "App_Data" folder of my visual studio project. I can view it fine in Visual Studio's built-in tools for managing a database attached to a solution. However i recently started playing around with the SQL Server Management Studio Express program. When i attach my database to Management Studio, and try to run my program it crashes. I think it might be a permissions error?!? When i detatch it and reattach it in visual studio it runs fine again. Any suggestions? ThanksJason
I have recently installed the SQL Server Management Studio Express but I do not find Management Tools in order to create scheduled backups and shrinking of the databases. I was under the impression that this should be included in the Management Studio. I use the SQL 2005 Express for smaller customers who run the SQL on a desktop unit. I need a way to backup the data to a server machine for backup purposes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.
I am trying to connect to a remote sql server 2005. So I have install the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express. When I try to connect I get the error below.
