My question is, is it possible to connect to an SQL database using the MSDE 2000 SP3a edition over the internet? And if so, how do I set it up? Thank you in advance.
3 of 100 MSDE servers' sql agent stop working with 'sqlAgent servise has marked as deleted'.
1. is there a way to fix this service could not start issue? 2. probably not. before moving all DBs to a new MSDE server, I run scripts on daily via isql to these 3 MSDE to run the daily backup and dbcc jobs. The problem is I could forget to run.
I tried to run following: backup database remote1.db1 to Backup_db1 with init so that I could run a job from my server on scheduling time. but it did not work. Any idea to turn manual process to semi-weapon? thanks -D
I've been using NT authentication to access my MSDE without any problem, but when I try to login using an account with SQL Server username and password it returns
"Login failed for user 'testuser'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server Connection."
I tried with Visual Studio, Query Analyzer and ODBC, they all return the same error.
Is this a limitation of MSDE or are there configurations that I'm not aware of?
Hi all,I have the the problem with logging to MSDE using SQL-DMO interface. On theW2K with LoginSecure=TRUE everything is OK (connect is made without anyparameters)But when LoginSecure=FALSE (on Win 98)connect( 'instance_name', 'sa', 'sa_password' )then it returns error message :Login failed for user 'sa'. Reason : Not associated with a trusted SQLI install MSDE on Win 98 with parameters :INSTANCENAME='instance_name'SECURITYMODE=SQLSAPWD='sa_password'Server runs with given instance name.Who knows why I can not login to MSDE ?TIA,Marek Powichrowski
Where <IPADDRESS> is the Ip address of the remote machine and <INSTANCENAME> is the MSDE instance name. Is this correct? If not, what am I doing wrong?
I have 2 pcs connected each other and one has the MSDE installed, i would like to access PC1 MSDE instance remotly is this possible or MSDE couldn't be used in network environment and just locally?
I installed a MSDE on a Windows XP SP2 and configured it for accepting remote connections. But It shows the "SQL Server doesnot exist or connection denied" message whenever I try to connect to this server. For more information I am adding more facts
* It is an MSDE and not a WMSDE * Firewall is turned off * Server process is listening on 0.0.0.0:1433 * TCP/IP and Named Pipes are enabled using server network utility * LoginMode=2 is set for mixed mode authentication in the registry * Tried restaring the Process and even windows after the changes.
After installing MSDE 2000 in mixed mode local access worked fine. Accessing through network with enterprice manager at first didn't work. Fixed by activating network protocols "TCP/IP" and "Named pipes" in database properties. But only the first time. After that login by SQL user and password is denied after restart local MSDE machine.
Hi all,I have bought Visual C# .NET 2003 Standard and downloaded the MSDE to usewith it.I did install it with it's default options and now i'd like to administer itwith Web Data Administrator but it keeps telling me that i should enable SQLServer Authentication. So i tried debugging the question creating an .udl file and trying to testvarious authentication methods:- Integrated Windows authentication works fine- SQL Server authentication (when i try logging in using user 'sa' with thepassword i've set keeps telling me that user 'sa' is not associated with atrusted SQL Server connection. How do i solve this puzzle? Tried googling (and reading some faqs) butdidn't come up with anything useful.Unfortunately the Web Data Administrator doesn't allow using integrated NTauthentication. :-(Thank You,Lorenzo
I just want to find out what the difference between a remote login and a remote query is. I'd have thought that a remote query inherently requires a remote login.
We just installed an application, WhatsUpGold, to monitor our servers. Management won't let me host that on my primary SQL box. So, we are using MSDE on the local machine (call that box my_netmon).
I can access the db with very basic functionality using osql while on the my_netmon machine. I've added my domain user account as a System Admin using the following commands.
exec sp_grantlogin @name go
exec sp_addsrvrolemember @name, 'sysadmin'
But when I go to the my_sql machine and try to attach to it with Enterprise Manager I get an error that the server does not exist.
What gives??? Is it just not possible, or am I missing something here?
My goal is to just be able to see the data stored in the MSDE db. Write views, etc...
I've searched all over the web trying to find a goddamn fix for this problem and no one has it right or they have the commands misspelled (!!!), so in spite of all those idiots, in spite of the makers of the Web Matrix guided tour for not pointing out this problem, and in spite of Microsoft who has not posted a solution themselves, here it goes:
* !! Change MYCOMPUTER below to the appropriate name of your computer !! * Open a command prompt * Type: C: * Type: cd "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server80ToolsBinn" (or the exact location of the file "osql.exe" if different) * Copy/paste the following commands
I have a installation of MSDE MSQLSERVER on my machine, in this server i run a local database. The problem began when I uninstalled the msde sqlserver and reinstalled it. The program tha uses the database not are connecting, they prompt: "login failed"
I have messed around with some remote login stuff and really screwed things up, now all of my jobs that execute prcedures on the remote server all fail saying the login failed for user 'sa'.
I need to get this working again and could really do with some help.

All asp & aspx pages that do not reference a database work fine. I have ready many articles about simialr problems, and it appears that I either need to cerate a aspnet user or add the nt authority as a database user. Can someone point me in the irght direction, and how to get this working?

Hello guys and girls! I need help for this error. Could anyone be so kind to enlighten me on this? Thanks! When i attempted to login to my local page, this occurred:
I'm about googled out on this one. I did find one post that looked almost like mine but the thread was never finished. I'm sure this problem has been solved and I'm just having trouble finding it. Can someone help me?
I'm running sql server 2000 on a small workgroup network of winxp machines.
If sql server machine is the same as webserver machine, my asp.net app works. If sql server and webserver are different, the app fails because of sql server login failure.
I am able to explore the database remotely through server explorer in VStudio2003. However, when I try to access the database with the asp.net application, the login fails. I have tried several connection strings. Authentication on the server is 'mixed', the server runs in the system account, and the password for sa is "" (blank password).
When "machinename" is the same as the machine on which the app is running. both of those connection strings work, and the application runs correctly.
When "machinename" is different (that is, sql server on a different machine from the webserver), depending on the connection string I get either "Login failed for user 'sa'." or "Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection."
Obviously VStudio is using some mechanism to add the remote server to it's list of servers and then to allow me manually to explore the databases on that server. Why am I too stoopid to figure it out?
I am trying to use a confirmed and valid account over a WAN (US to Europe) to register and access a SQL server database. The protocol being used is TCP/IP and it has been confirmed that port 1433 is open.
The data is going through a frame relay line and pining the remote SQL Server does return a valid response. Unfortunately, I am getting the following error:
Error 18456 Severity Level 14 Message Text Login failed for user 'TestUser'.
Explanation You do not have permission to log in to the server.
Action Contact a member of the sysadmin fixed server role to request login permission.
I moved my web and DB to a new server. I am trying to use a private network between my servers to connect to my DB.
I backed up my DB on the old server, copied it to my new server, then restored it.
I then went into Security > Login and set up a User Name & Password and set the db as the default db, made that user the owner, etc.
I went to my web server, changed my connection string to this:
Code:
sConString = "Driver={SQL Server};" & _ "Server=tcp:MYSERVERNAME;" & _ <!-- The server name --> "Address=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx,1433;" & _ <!-- The Private IP Address between servers --> "Network=DBMSSOCN;" & _ <!-- Telling it to use TCP --> "Database=DBNAME;" & _ <!-- The name of the DB I am connecting to --> "Uid=UNAME;" & _ <!-- The user name to login with --> "Pwd=UPWD;" <!-- The Users Password -->
(Obviously I changed the critical info above, but this is the format I used)
I cannot seem to login to the DB. I get the following error:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e4d'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'UNAME'.
/(file path), line 5
I have read the following article and it appears I have everything right. http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;827422&spid=2852&sid=332
Somehow I cannot seem to connect/login to get the proper access. Can anyone help? Anyone see anything I am doing wrong? Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks for the help in advance. I am trying to get this done tonight so it is running in time for the morning.

I have 2 xp machines one has the SQL EXPRESS Server with all the goodies on it and the other I just install the client stuff. I am using VB 6 to program with using the ADO. It works great on the server machine. The software pulls up great. I can't seem to get it to work on the client machine. I get "Login failed for user 'TIGGERLGuest'. I found the places to set the TCPIP setings on the server SQL Express to allow this even turned on the browser but nothing same error. I am using the same login on both machines and am pointed to the same workgroup. I used window authentication when I set them up. Not sure why it insists on using Guest.
This is a copy of the connection string I am using
Hi, I have an ASP.Net web application running in groupnamewebservername. I am trying to connect it to the remote database server groupnamedatabaseservername using the ASPNET user id. The remote database is SQL Server 2005 and the web server has IIS 6.0 installed. My web.config connection entry has username as "groupnamewebservernameaspnet" and I have a database user in remote database server under the login name groupnamewebservername$. When I try to connect, I keep getting the following error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'groupnamewebservernameaspnet'.
Could you please let me know what I am doing wrong here? Thanks. Regards, Gayathri.
