MS Sql Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 2 (KB921896) Will Not Install
Nov 22, 2007I am continually prompted to download & install this SP by the windows update utility but it always fails to install it.
I have XP SP2. No error msg is provided. I do not have ACT! installed. I do have Oracle 10g Expr. Ed installed. Competitive jealousy?

Where does one enable SMO & SQL-DMO?
I looked in the summary log file in the Hotfix directory and it says that the problem is
that SQL Express cant be started. See below.
I went into the SQL Configuration Mgr and tried to start it and it fails to start.
No reason given. Now what?

Service Packs For Express Edition With Advanced Services?

I use Windows XP Profesional. I have installed SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Serices. The problem is that my databases attach always as Read-Only. I have learned that I sould install Service Pack(s), but I cannot find any for Express Edition with Advanced Services.
Could youe help me please?
Here is a list of files I have installed: SQLEXPR_ADV.EXE, SQLEXPR_TOOLKIT.EXE, SqlServer2K5_BOL_Jul2006.msi, SQLServer2005_ReportAddin.msi, SQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi, SqlServerSamples.msi, SSEUtilSetup.EXE.

Is it possible to apply Service packs to just 1 instance or does it impact all 4 instances on both nodes ?

SQL Server 2005 Evaluation Install Error
Jan 19, 2007I downloaded the SQL Server 2005 Evaluation setup .exe. When I wen to install it by clicking "SQLEVAL.EXE", I received an eror stating "There is not enough space on Drive C: to extract this package.
I have over 50 gig of available spac eon my C drive. What gives?
When I downloaded the .exe, I had the Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect enabled. Could that have caused it? Also, 2 days ago, I installed MS-Accounting 2007. Could that have caused a problem?
I have seen this error posted on the SS2005 forums and the standard response is to look at the installation logs. I have no logs. The extraction never completed.

I have removed all beta components like sql 2005 ctp, visual studio 2005 beta, etc from my computer and yet it keeps giving me this message.

I have downloaded this file more than 5 times and still the same problem occurs. Is it only me or other has same problem? Any suggestsion?

Applying Service Packs To SQL Server 2000 Instance Attached To Sql Server 2005

I have an interesting situation here. I have a SQL Server 2000 database which is attached to SQL Server 2005. The database (SQL 2000) however only has service pack 3 applied. I need to apply SP4 before I can move forward with SQL 2000->2005 upgrade. The question: can I somehow apply this support package with my current configuration or should I install full SQL 2000 front-end anew (which I don't have at the moment)? Whenever I try to run SQL 2000 SP4 it complains "SQL Server 2000 is not installed on this machine."
The server I try to install the update is Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition x64. SQL Server 2000 database itself is x86 (obviously).

SQL Server 2005 Evaluation Edition Conversion To Fully Licensed Version
Nov 30, 2006We downloaded and installed the trial software of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise edition a month ago. We have purchased a fully licensed version of SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition and would like to apply the licensed version to our workstation clients since their SQL software will eventually expire. Our SQL Server is not an issue since we purchased a new Server and installed the new licensed version of SQL on it.
Is there an easy way to accomplish this or is an uninstall & reinstall of SQL on every workstation required?

Upgrading From SQL Server 2005 Standard Evaluation Edition To A Fully Licensed Version.
Jan 3, 2007I just received my licensed disks for upgrading my SQL Server 2005 Evaluation version to a fully licensed version. Do I simply run the two disks over top of the evaluation version or is it a little bit more complicated? Any input would be greatly appreciated. A little new to SQL.

First of all, there is no sqlrun_tools.msi under setup folder of the dvd. And also when I tried to change component from Add/Remove programs and following the instructions as specified on clicking Change Installed components all that I see are: Connectivity Components and Software Development kit.

Aug 8, 2006 How do SQL 2000 service packs play a role in upgrading? That is, can SQL 2000 Standard with no Service Packs(SP) be upgraded to SQL 2005 Standard, or does SQL 2000 Standard have to have a certain service pack(SP).

SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Won't Install
Jan 17, 2007I've read through every thread I can find, but can't find an answer for this.
The installation gets all the way to the end, and then stops. I receive the following error message:
"Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup has encountered a problem and will end..."
I've tried all the troubleshooting tips. I never had any of the beta or prior versions installed, so I'm not sure what the hangup is.
Can anyone please help me with this?

Cant Install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
Nov 2, 2007I have been through many Forums and newsgroups but I just end up in a loop.
Im trying to install the basic Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. Without advanced services, toolkit and management studio.
First of all it incorrectly says I do not have the recommended specifications but I cant work out what I am missing. I have 20GB free HDD space. 1.2Ghz CPU, 512MB RAM, Windows XP Pro SP2. This meets the Minimum and Recommended.
All the other system checks have green ticks so I just igore the warning about recommended specs and continue to install.
The options I change from the default settings are: 'Default Instance', Built in system account: Local Service, 'Mixed mode' with a password.
It installs the following parts successfully:
MSXML6
SQL Setup support files
SQL native Client
SQL VSS Writer
As soon as it tries to install 'SQL server Database Services' it attempts to start MSSQLSERVER but fails. I try to start it manually and again it fails.
I notice that the Service is looking for the file: "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLBinnsqlservr.exe -sMSSQLSERVER"
However the only 2 folders that exist in "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server" are "90" and "80", the "MSSQL" folder doesnt even exist.
The SQLSetup0001_PCNAME_SQL.log reports:

From what I've read, this edition is a full Enterprise Edition, but it will expire after 160 days. But is it a full edition in the sense that users can connect to it when it's installed on a server, like if it was the Enterprise Edition? So far, I've only had it installed at local computers outside any network.

Cannot Install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition X86
Mar 10, 2006I recently (yesterday) installed a fresh copy of Windows XP with Service Pack 2 applied.
I proceeded with Visual Studio 2005 Express Editions installation straight away.
But I cannot install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition x86.
I choose to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition x86 component along with every component of visual studio but it simply would not install.
In the end, after the installation of each complete is complete, I simply get an error message saying that Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition x86 failed to install.
What is the problem?

Nov 25, 2007I'm trying to install SQL Server 2005 (Developer edition) on my Vista Ultimate machine.
I've got the IIS 7 features turned on; I've got the SP2 patch CD; and I've run every install as administrator. I've run the SQL Server setup before and after the SP2 patch
I'm doing a named instance using the built-in system account with windows authentication mode.
Is there any COMPLETE guide as to how to work through all these installation problems?
I've gotten same results after about six attempts.

Can You Install SQL Server 2005 On Vista Ultimate Edition?
Feb 27, 2007Ive been told that you cant install SQL Server 2000/2005 on anything but a server OS (such as Windows Server 2003). How are people installing this into vista then as Longhorn is far from being released?
When i try and install it into Ultimate, i only get the option to install client tools... which makes sense as the machine isnt a server. Surely people can install SQL Server 2005 in Vista though?
All of the features are green ticked except the OS which has a compatabilty warning (which i expected).
I feel im missing something really simple here....
