Jan 23, 2007I have SQL 2005 reporting services installed and running, however I do not have the BI dev studio installed and cannot figure out how to get it installed.
The report server is operating correctly since I have developed reports on another pc using VS 2005 and uploaded them to the server.
How do I get the BI dev studio installed on the server?

I'm trying to install the common components for SQL 2005 on a server that already has Reporting Services 2005 installed on it. It keeps comng up with an error:
"To change an existing instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to a different edition of SQL Server 2005, you must run SQL Server 2005 Setup from the command prompt and include the SKUUPGRADE=1 parameter."
The Reporting Services install has had SP2 applied to it, would that be what is messing up the install?
I have very little experience with SQL so any info would be helpful.

Nov 26, 2006hi there - I'm praying someone here can shed some light on this - after many google and web searches, I have found users with similar issues, but have yet to find a solution.
Problem: I have recently upgraded my desktop from Windows XP to Windows Vista Ultimate (clean install) and have migrated my local machine to SQL Server 2005. However I have a number of .Net projects that access databased on another server running SQL Server 2000 - prior to my upgrade to Vista, I was running SQL Server 2000 on my desktop as well. During the install, everything seemed to go well, and I also installed the SQL Server 2005 Service pack as instructed via the MSDN site. However, when attempting to test my .net projects on my desktop pc (ie visit http://localhost), I encounter the error:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
note that the server I am attempting to connect TO is the old SQL 2000 server - NOT 2005. I specify my connection info in the web.config - and it points to an external ip address on the web.
Can anyone shed some light on this? I've tried enabling remote access on my local SQL 2005 install, but I'm fairly sure thats for servers that want to connect to my desktop, rather than my desktop attempting to connect to external servers. Any help is greatly appreciated - I'm pulling my hair out over trying to figure this out! :)

Cannot Install Reporting Services (2005)
Mar 31, 2008I am trying to install reporting services with SQL Server 2005 and having no luck. I have tried different versions of SQL Server 2005 along with different pcs/servers including Vista, Server 2003 on virtual pc and Server 2003 on an actual real server but no luck. I keep getting the option greyed out when I try and install. In fact many of the options are greyed out. I do have a version of SQL Server which installs fine but doesn't include Reproting Services.
Any ideas?

Aug 5, 2006I have done a full Sql Server install on a server and the SSIS service is not available. Normally when I load Sql Server I get €œSQL Server Integration Services" as a service that I can start. On this machine it is not listed after the install. I don't get any errors through out the install.

I'm an absolute beginner trying to learn SQL and Visual Basic/Visual Web developer.
I've downloaded SQL Express 2005 and want to install it on my laptop (Dell XPS, 2gb Ram) so that I can start doing the tutorials (for SQL and VB/VWS). I dont want any connection to the internet - i only want to have it on my local pc.
I'm confused as I 'm sure I read that I dont need to have the IIS service running, and that it wont require a server...however, I keep reading that IIS, and a server is a MUST, and for installing SQLE2005.
I'm so confused, and frustrated that I dare'nt install SQLE2005...
...Can anyone put me out of my misery???

Aug 21, 2007I have installed Visual Studio 2005 Prof Edition on a Vista machine and SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on a Windows 2000 server. They will be used as a development environment for us. As we need to management the SQL Server 2005, we would like to install the 2005 Developer SSMS on the Vista machine such that we can manage the SQL Server 2005 developer instance installed on that Win2k machine. However, the system does not allow us to do it. We have the express edition autoamtically installed while we installed the Vistual Studio. Is there any workaround that i can still install the 2005 developer SSMS without uninstall the sql server 2005 Xpress version? Or, I have to uninstall the Xpress version before i can install the 2005 developer's SSMS? Please help!

When the dialog box appeared indicating file couldn't found, there was no option to look elsewhere for it the only option was retry or cancel which after 5 or 6 retries I cancelled. Everything else appears to have installed correctly for this instance.
Also earlier attempts to install have left services for named instances that I cannot install to such as SQLEXPRESS , SQLEXPRESS1 and CURRIEREXPRESS, I long ago had a beta version installed and have attempted numerous methods to completely wipe these out using the uninstallbetas tool from Microsoft as well as a number of suggestions from some posts.
Please help - The most significant reason I'm installing this is to practice creating SQL Reporting Service reports

No Services Installed With SQL Server 2005 Enterprise On Windows XP SP2

I started out with SQLExpress and that installed just fine. After going through some books about SQL, I found out the limitations to SQLExpress and realized that I would need the full version if I was to further my education on this. (analysis services, integration services, etc etc.)
I uninstalled SQLExpress and downloaded and installed SQL Server 2005 (Enterprise Edition I believe).
I have installed SQL Server 2005 and I went to go connect. It says it requires a Server Name. So I put the local name of the computer in there and came back with an Error 40. During the troubleshooting of what is causing this error I discovered there are no Services installed from SQL Server 2005. They were removed when I removed SQLExpress and not reinstalled when I installed SQL Server 2005.
I checked in both the Services Icon in Administrative Tools and in the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
This would account for my not being able to connect to a local server.
How do I bring them back. I have uninstalled and reinstalled SQL Server 2005 3 times now. It doesn't bring them back.
Now, apparently Enterprise edition does not run on Windows XP Pro SP2. Is there anyway around this? I heard something about a manual installation from the CD but I didn't understand what he was attempting to say.

SQL Server 2005 Install Keeps Failing To Install SQL Services (i.e. The Main Engine!).
Feb 6, 2007I am currently running Windows XP Professional Service Pack2. It already has MSDE & SQL Server 2000 installed (although I just uninstalled MSDE in the vain hope that it might present the installer with a more straightforward upgrade).
I have tried installing with the default instance & a new instance (I don't really care - I just need to install the darn thing). I just want the basic database & Books On-line, nothing fancy.

I suppose an error dialog (or log message) that actually told you what is wrong and then what to do is too much to ask for. (Or an installer than just copied all the files into place). :(

Apr 13, 2006I am installing SQL2005 Develop Edition, it goes to "Detecting Installed IIS" screen and stop there. No error messages, but not moving forward, kinda stuck. I am using XP Professional Service Pack 2, I tried uninstall IIS, got the same result. If anyone knows how to solve this problem, please advice, thanks a lot!

We would like to install Sql 2005 Enterprise Edition (including database engine, reporting service, integration service and analysis service) as a sepearte instance on a server which already has Sql 2000 with reporting services and analysis services. We do not want to disturb the existing sql 2000 setup.
If we do that then what will happen to my earlier sql 2000 reporting service? Will it be upgraded to sql 2005 reporting service? I heard that reporting services are instance unaware application. Where will be the default reporting service database available?

Side-by-Side Install With SQL Express 2005 W/ Advanced Services And SQL Server 2005 Standard
Mar 21, 2007I have SQL Express 2005 with Advanced Services on a development box that I also want to have installed side-by-side with SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition so I can develop apps using either edition based on the features I need (or don't need). From what I understand from sifting through other posts is that side-by-side installs of these two editions is supported and I should setup a named instance for each edition (SQLEXPRESS for the express edition and MSSQLSERVER for the standard edition). Is this setup accurate or is there another/better way?
Also, does anybody know if side-by-side installations of Reporting Services is also supported? If I install SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with Reporting Services, will there be two different report servers running in IIS? Since there are different features in Reporting Services between the two editions, I'm not sure how side-by-side installations will effect one another.

Install Sql 2005 On A Machine That Has Desktop Engine
Aug 18, 2007My coworker tried install SQL server 2005 on a server. The server already has a desktop engine running as "MSSQLServer". Because the new sql server 2005 need running as a default instance. So he still using "MSSQLServer" as the instance name.
After installation, the service's running file seems still point to the old location. When view the properties on Management studio, it still report as "desk top engine" and the version is 8.xx..xxxx.
My question is,
1. What has been done during the installation? Is current desktop engine was upgraded?
2. In current situation, what can we do to install the SQL server 2005 as a default instance. Is there way to rename the desktop engine to a named instance?

Cannot Install 'SQL Server 2005 Express Edition With Advanced Services'
Jun 3, 2006I tried to install 'SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services'. First, I uninstalled the old version thru Add/Delete Programs in the Control Panel.
My first problem was I didn't have IIS installed on my computer, but, I could not find it in the downloads section.
Then the installation aborted because old version databases were in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData. But, it would not let me delete them, saying that they were being used, even though nothing was running at the time that I tried to delete them.
