Can We Please Sort Dtsx Files In SSIS Project?
Nov 14, 2007
Hi Experts,
When you create a SSIS Project in Visual Studio and start adding many, many SSIS and several people do it, they are not being sorted when they get loaded into Visual Studio environment, unlike other objects such as web forms in ASP.NET or classes. as you can imagine, if you have about 100 of SSIS, it makes it very hard for anyone to find one SSIS to alter it.
all these packages are being stored in some xml file, right? so, my boss wants me to write a tool that will open this file and order SSIS by names to make it easier for anyone in a team. i was wondering if anyone has done something like this already, or started. any leads, comments will be appreciated.
thanks a bunch!

I have an existing project that I have added a simple text file. I am using the Project Deployment Model for this project. I save the project, close it and open the project and the file is there under the Miscellaneous folder. I successfully deployed the project to the server. When I retrieve the project using the Integration Services Import Project Wizard, all of my package modifications are there and the packages up to date but the txt file I added to the Miscellaneous folder is not there.

I have a solution with a couple of ssis projects in it. Everytime I open the solution, Visual Studio creates an extra .database file for the project's existing xxx.database file. The solution is under VSS control and VS2005 checks out the project and shows the file as a newly added file.
What causes this and how can I prevent this from occurring?
The files contain this:
<Database xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dwd="http://schemas.microsoft.com/DataWarehouse/Designer/1.0" dwd:design-time-name="d3ce9653-3ac5-4ee5-85c3-7d60b2e5f109" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/analysisservices/2003/engine">

<LastSchemaUpdate>0001-01-01T00:00:00Z</LastSchemaUpdate>

<ImpersonationInfoSecurity>Unchanged</ImpersonationInfoSecurity>
</DataSourceImpersonationInfo>
</Database>
There are 2 of us working on the solution and the other fellow does not see this behavior.
The files do not show up in the VS2005 solution explorer. If they are user specific as I suspect (impersonation info?), then they should not be added to the .dtproj project file.
Thanks!

I need to import multiple flat files with different formats into different tables of the sql server database and not able to figure out the best way out in ssis to do so...
What are the possible methods in ssis to do so and if possible the process which can be dynamic as file names or columns might change in future.

For some reason in a Team Foundation Team Project that has multiple project types (SSRS, SSIS, WebSite, C# Business DLL...), the SSIS project makes itself the startup project to the team project. If I explicitly set another project as the startup project to the team project and then select an SSIS package in the SSIS project in the team project, the SSIS project becomes the startup project automatically.
I am using Visual Studio 2005 SP1.

I have created a very simple package. It has a OLE DB Source, a Sort and a OLE DB Destination.
When I run it in the Integration Designer in Visual Studio, it works fine.
But when I like to execute the package in another C# Project, I get this error:
"To run a SSIS package outside of SQL Server Data Tools you must install Sort of Integration Services or higher."
When I remove the Sort Task, it works.
Here is my C# code:
MyEventListener eventListener = new MyEventListener();
Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Package _Package;
Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Application _Application;
Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.DTSExecResult _DTSExecResult;
_Application = new Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Application();
_Package = _Application.LoadPackage(@"...Package.dtsx", eventListener, true);
_DTSExecResult = _Package.Execute(null, null, eventListener, null, null);
System.Windows.Forms.MessageBox.Show(_DTSExecResult.ToString());

Hi,
Can someone explain how the PR testharness is supposed to function? When I run it f with and without debugging and by using dtexec other processes can start and stop before the awaiting response from the console date and number of days to process. If you just look at the testharness and the loadgroupfulldaily the increment date and SQL Audits will finish prematurely before the console data is even entered. Is there a property that I am missing?
Thanks,
Larry

I have a Visual Studio 2005 solution which contains a Sql Server Integration Services (SSIS) project.
In this solution I have explicitly set a Web application project as startup project, but whenever I edit a DTS package within the SSIS project, VS automatically sets the SSIS project as startup project and the package I edit as startup object.
Needless to say, this may cause some really unwanted incidents when running the solution - thinking that you're about to run the Web application project (that was explicitly set as startup project), but instead, you run the edited package in the SSIS project.
Is there any way to avoid having the SSIS project automatically setting itself as startup project, any workaround here at all? :)
Thanks.

I've got an SSIS solution file with project deployment model in VS 2013 and would like to deploy that to SSISDB on different environments.All these days I followed the regular way to create a project in SSISDB and deploy it to that. Now want to find out if i can automate this process and so got some questions
1. Can we automate the process of creating a project on SSISDB based on our SSIS project name? This will be like when we do a deployment it should check if the project exists or not on SSISDB based on our SSIS project name, if the project exists we just deploy the packages in the project and if the project does not exists in SSISDB it will create that project and deploy the packages.
2. Can we also automate the process of creating environments? In traditional way we manually create the environment variables under environment tab of SSISDB, but can we make that also as part of deployment? Like when we are releasing to Dev server we look if that particular Dev variable exists on that server, if it exists we just update the existing stuff and if it does not exists we just create it.

I haven't made any changes to this project and it was up and running fine a week or so ago. Any ideas? Help.

I'm currently experiencing major problems with SSIS when opening and editing large .DTSX package files that contain Exec DTS 2000 Tasks which have the package data loaded internally. I have no issues if I point the task to a .DTS file, or to an actual DTS package on a SQL 2000 server - but if I load the package internally then once the underlying .DTSX file gets over around 17MB or so in size (which doesnt take long making a few edits to even fairly simple packages now and then), I start to experience major issues with VS/BIDS 2005 crashing randomly when I try to perform any action with the package (open, save etc). Things like OutOfMemory exception errors, followed by the properties of Exec DTS 2000 task being deleted, and also sometimes accompanied by messages about the application not being installed properly.
Again its ONLY when the underlying .DTSX file reaches a certain size limit, and only when I've got an Exec DTS 2000 task with the package loaded internally. I've replicated the issue using several different package files on several different machines (even on servers with lots of memory, fwiw).
Can anyone out there help me with this? SSIS - namely SSIS Exec DTS 2000 package tasks - are our lifeblood at my company and this trend of random and serious crashing on large package files is very disturbing to say the least.
thanks,
Wil

I have a SSIS package that I want users to be able to execute by clicking a button on an a web page. The package does not require any parameters to be passed to it. Previously I've executed DTS packages without any problems but after a fair bit of investigation and trawling the net I've not found a way to do this successfully with SSIS. Some code I've tried - Dim app As New Application()
'
' Load package from file system
'
Dim package As Package = app.LoadPackage("c:ssisPackage.dtsx", Nothing)
'package.ImportConfigurationFile("c:ExamplePackage.dtsConfig")
'Dim vars As Variables = package.Variables
'vars("MyVariable").Value = "value from c#"
Dim result As DTSExecResult = package.Execute()
lblResult.Text = "Package Execution results: {0} " & result.ToString()
All I get is a message 'Failure'.
Does anyone have an example of how to do this?

Hi experts.
Challenge: Datapumping. To copy daily production data from N x 100 SQL 2k servers to one central SQL2k5 server.
Sometimes copying task might demand transferring schema objects like temp tables and procedures from sql2005 to sql2000.
Since system organisation is different, what would be the best approach ?
Thanks

Hi all,
I have a problem with a Sort Transformation, I have a CSV file with 200'000 rows the csv file is about 30Mb. When the rows are processed in the Sort Transformation, SSIS generates around 160 temp files of about 10Mb each.
How can avoid so many temp files to be generated ?

Hi all,We recently upsized two Microsoft Access Databases to SQL. We'reusing an ADP (2002) as the front end.All the conversion issues have been resolved, except for one:Whenever we insert a record into a table, the table isn't sorted byprimary key like I would expect. Instead, the record can be found atthe end of the table. This makes finding a particular record(especially as time goes on) very difficult.I've tried eliminating all indexes except for the primary key, andalso writing AFTER INSERT triggers, but the table still does not sortcorrectly.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!Matt

Hello,I've run as many keyword combinations searching for this as I canthink of, but cannot find a simple answer.The situation: I have a database that is mid-conversion/redevelopment.I frequently rebuild my dev copy from the production version, whichrequires a bunch of DDL script, and then adding in all the storedprocedures necessary to the new version only. Each sp may have changedsince the last time it was run, so I can't exactly keep them allconcatenated in a single file or anything like that.So the only way I can see to execute each and every one of these savedscript files is to open it up in SSMS and hit F5 for execute. This isa silly waste of time, it seems to me, and hardly foolproof. Is therenot some simple way to run every script in a project? What purposedoes a project serve, otherwise?(Worth mentioning that the tool I found herehttp://www.codeproject.com/useritem...criptRunner.asp does notseem to work.)Thanks in advance.

Hi,
My Problem goes Like this....
I have a folder which contains all the flat files which are used by all the packages(ex--flat file connection managers) in my project.
If we want to change the name of the folder,have to change in every package( in all connection managers) manually.It looks hardcoding and timetaking.
Is there any way to change in one place(xml,file,variable) so that it should be affected in all the packages.
one more doubt is..
If we configure the flat file connection manager in package configurations,configuration file (ex-xml)will be created (we can make changes in that file regarding that connecion mgr only.)
But i want one configuration file (ex--xml) so that i should configure the details of all the connection managers used in all packages.

I am trying to move an entire SSIS project from one machine to another (with a different directory structure) in a Development environment. In addition to the packages themselves I have Data Sources and Data Source Views defined. I also have connection managers for Excel and SQL Server that use those data sources, and connection managers for flat files for my error logs. Finally, I have saved my package configurations in an XML file.
I've followed the steps in the following post to move my packages:
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=817897&SiteID=1
What else exactly do I need to do, though, to move my complete project. My objective is to start up BIDS on the new server, File -> Open -> Project/Solution and point it to the new <project>.sln file and have it work. I know I need to edit my config XML file, but other than that, how do I properly move/recreate the data sources, data source views, and solution files in the new location. I've tried several things, but with no luck.
Thanks!

Is there any use of creating an SSIS Setup project? Since the Package Installation Wizard already does a good job of it?
Which brings up a question - why dont SSIS Packages compile to a dll just like any other .NET project? It seems interpreted from the .dtsx file except for the Script Tasks of Components which are pre-compiled.
Why did MS change the design language all of a sudden?
But please answer - is there any use of creating an SSIS Setup project?

How do I create an SSIS Project in BIDS?
I installed BIDS, but I don't see any SSIS projects to create.
When I click File - > New Project
I see the following options under "Business Intelligence Projects" section.
1. Report Server Project Wizard
2. Report Server Project
No where do I see anything about SSIS or integration services projects. Am I missing something? Did I not download something?
I have
Windows XP SP2
Visual Studio .Net 2005
SQL Server 2005 Express
SQL Server Management Studio Express
Installed Business Intelligence Development Studio
My company has a SQL 2005 server that I connect to in which I want to run SSIS projects off of.
I'm sure I'm just missing something small. Can someone point me to the right direction?
Thanks,

I have a vb.net application that executes a simple flat file to sql table dtsx package. I want to capture the rowcount to display back to the user to verify the number of rows that were inserted or updated to the table. I have a Row Count component placed between the flat file source(without errors) and the destination component. I have assigned a variable named RecordCount to the Row Count component. So far so good I hope : )
Now, I also use a variable to "feed" the package the flat file source. This works fine, but I cannot figure out how to retrieve the row count information and how to assign that to the variable RecordCount.
Also, if anyone has any insight on the way to work with the OnProgress method in SSIS I would appreciate that as well. In SQL 2000 using DTS I create a "PackageEventsSink" that I had found online, and it worked great for monitoring the progress of the DTS. Can't seem to figure out how to get it to work in SSIS.
Thanx,
Mike

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I'll try...
I have to execute an integration service package in an .adp project. In other words, click of the button on the adp window has to start a package or a job.
Can that be done? And if yes, how? I've been searching the Web but without success.

Our team has the following problem:
I create a SSIS project in VS and add it to Team Source Control. When the project and all it's files exist on a machine and I want to open the project from Source Control, everithing works fine, but when another developer, who doesn't have the files on his machine, wants to open the project from Source Control he is required to check out the project file.
I've investigated the problem and found out that each project has a database file (with .database extension) and project file contains a reference to it. Once the user opens from Team Source Control a project that isn't presented on a target machine, the VS creates a new database file on a local machine and insists to change the reference in the project file.
Does anyone have a workaround for the problem?
Thanks

Hi,
I have been working on an SSIS project for sometime now. The project files are located on a remote server. Suddenly I am not able to open the solution I get a lot of error messages and all the data flow taks are gone. I later found out that SSIS encrypts packages, so that other users will not be able to see them. Fine, but I have been using the same windows user account for months now. What could be the problem?
This is what I get when trying to open the solution:
There were errors while the package was being loaded.
The package might be corrupted.
See the Error List for details.
And the error list also contains messages saying "Could not load from xml".
Any pointers will be much appreciated.
TIA
