Xp_cmdshell - Need To Execute External Program Asynchonous

i need to start an external program (vb.net) from within a trigger. via xp_cmdshell everything works fine except that the execution of the trigger waits for the vb-program to finish.
now i tried a workaround with a "starter application" which only calls the vb.net program (asynchronous) an ends.
this works fine from a dos prompt (command prompt returns immediately and vb.net task is running). but when i call the starter app from the trigger with xp_cmdshell, the behavior is the same as before: execution does not continue until the vb.net task ends.
any other ideas that could solve my problem? submitting an agent-job is not fine for me because i need to supply parameters to the called program and maybe i need call it more than once at the same time.

Could anybody tell me how can I stop the executable program which I am using in Arguments field of Execute Process Task Editor window. My SSIS process based on three steps.
1. retrieve the file from FTP location
2. Process the file by using windows 32bit application
3. transfer the processed file back to FTP location
The problem occurs in step 2, it opens the win32 application for processing and it does process BUT after that it won't exit untill I close it manually, so it never reaches to step 3 if I don't close it.

FYI - I've been able to successfully execute Transact-SQL statements

Hi.
I have a master package, which executes child packages that are located on a SQL Server. The Child packages execute other child packages which are also located on the SQL server.
Everything works fine when I execute in process. But when I set the parameter in the mater package ExecutePackageTask to ExecuteOutOfProcess = True, I get the following error

Executing A Package From Within A C# Program Returns Failure Everytime

I am trying to execute a package (programmatically) that is stored on my local disk using the information that is provided on the following page:

This means, I am using the Application object and the Package object to actually load the package using the path to it.
So my code looks something like this:

app = new Application();
pkg = app.LoadPackage(pkgLocation, null);
pkgResults = pkg.Execute();
Console.WriteLine(pkgResults.ToString());
Console.ReadKey();

My package reads in a flat file (located on another server) and transforms it and saves it to a database (on that same server). And mind you, I can execute this package just fine when I do it manually from within BIDS.
But when I try to execute the above mentioned code in my C# solution (compiled to a command line executable), I always get a "Failure".
Can somebody point out what I am doing wrong here?

Apr 7, 2006Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't find how to run multiple tasks in sequence while in Visual Studio debug mode. In DTS design mode I grew accustomed to right-clicking tasks one-at-a time, but in SSIS I find the additional step of having to exit Debugging mode after every task gets old after a while.
There must be a way to start execution at a certain task and have the package continue all the way to some other specified task. It would also be nice to have every task in a Group execute in sequence and stop (even if connections continue beyond the group). I could even settle for repeatedly clicking the Continue button in Debug mode, but it's always grayed out when the current task is finished!
Can this be achieved by setting breakpoints?

Passing Execute DTS Package Result (success/failure) To Calling SSIS Package
Mar 6, 2008I have a SSIS job, one of the last steps it performs is to execute a SQL 2000 DTS package. This has to be done as a SQL 2000 DTS package as it is performing rebuilds of SQL 2000 Analysis Services dimensions and cubes. We've found that when the DTS fails the SSIS job is happily completing showing as a success, we would prefer to know it went wrong.
As far as I'm aware SSIS merely starts the DTS off and doesn't care about it's result. I've taken a look in to turning on the logging for the execute DTS package and thought that the ExecuteDTS80PackageTaskTaskResult would give me the answer I need...but is merely written to the log not available as an event-handler. It also looks like it is not safe to put a SQL task in as the next item to go look at the SQL 2000 system tables to look at the log for the DTS package as the SSIS documentation warns that the DTS package can continue to run after the execute DTS package task has ended.
Ideally I want any error raised within the DTS package to cascade up to be an error in the SSIS job, I can then handle it appropriately. I cannot find a way to do this. Is there a way?
If not, can anyone suggest how in the remainder of the SSIS tasks I can be sure that the DTS has completed before I start any other tasks that will check for the SQL 2000 log of its execution?

Jun 8, 2007I am having problems executing a child package from a parent package using the Execute Package Task. I am attempting to run the master package through a SQL Server Agent job.
The SQL Server Agent job is owned by sa. The step that runs the parent package is configured to load the package from the SSIS Package Store on the same server that the job is running.
I have the Execute Package Task configured as follows:
Location: SQL Server
ExecuteOutOfProcess: True
Connecting as a SQL Server login (let's say TestEtl)
I have added the db_dtsoperator database role to both the TestEtl login and the login that SQL Server Agent connects through. I have also configured the child package's reader role to include db_dtsoperator. Per http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-US/library/ms141053.aspx, this should allow these logins to run the child package.
I have enabled logging of all events in both the parent and child packages. I see the following in the logs when the Execute Package Task executes (omitted portions unrelated to the execution of the child package task):

It works fine in my development machine but when i try to run in another server after i deployed it. It looks for the datasource path of the DTSX file in the same location.
how do i set the path according to each server where the dtsx file is stored. or any other method of storing it like connection string.

Package Is Not Able To Create Process To Execute Child Package.

In my application, i have two package, parent package and child package. the parent package is executing child package using a Execute Package Task.
"Execute Out Of Process" property of Execute Package Task is set to TRUE. means the child package will be run in separate process not in the process of Parent package.
this was working fine, but at a particular client location. its failing the error is "not able to load child package".
for me it seems some setting on server restricting to create separate process for child package execution.
when "Execute Out Of Process" property of Execute Package Task is set to FALSE. its working fine.
can anyone help what could cause its failure with property set to TRUE.

I have successfully created a SSIS package which execute a DTS 2000 package and with no problem to execute the task. But I failed to schedule this package. I was not success in setting the logging. When running the package in command line:

When ExtractandWrite.dtsx is executed by right-clicking on package, the package executes without any errors.
DelayValidation = True for the Execute Package Task tasks is set and DelayValidation for the connection manager is set to True.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to what might be causing this error?

Package Cancels In Debug Mode
Oct 10, 2007I'm having problems getting a package that I'm trying to develop to run consistently.
This package is using and IBM OLE DB Provider for DB2 connection manager to move data from a remote DB2 for Windows source to a Native OLE DBSQL Native Client connection manger for a SQL 2005 destination.
Sometimes the package works. Sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, a command window briefly flashes in Visual Studio before execution "completes". There are no error messages even though the job aborts and no data is moved. The only indication of failure is that the data flow task never changes to green and the output reports that the package was "Canceled". Here's the debug output I'm getting:

Jan 9, 2015I have a bat file that kicks off a master package, which kicks off about 300 child packages. My bat file is working correctly, however there seems to be issues executing packages in 64 bit mode.
So my question is...
Is there a way to specify in the bat file to execute packages in 32 bit mode and not 64 bit?

SSIS Package In Transaction Required Mode?

Refering to my previous post I've a package which easily run when transaction mode is Supported but when i put it to Required and All DFs are supported inside the sequence container it won't run.
Well technically it goes and pass step 1, so it goes to green but regardless of what i put in the 2nd DF it won't run. It just hangs in there.
When i check the component service and check DTC, the transaction would be running but never commited.
I have done most of the things about DTC and configuration with the MS articles as this package was failing before but now it just sits at this point.
Any ideas?

This is exactly when I need when a package is running but I want to be able to see it without using Visual Studio.
I would do it in Reporting Services but I need to find out to get the information. The SSIS logging feature in a package does not provide that kind of info.

I want to be able to use the user password to execute the package within the code, but whenever I try that I get the following error: Access to package properties requires entry of package owner password.
