It sounds unbelievable that I can not schedule the DTS packages I created either on my local mechine or SQL server. I have the SA permission for all SQL servers and I can run the DTS packages manually in the EM or run it on DOS command line using dtsrun utility.
The error message I got says: "Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQL State: 42000)
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server][SQL Server] login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: not associated with a trusted Server connection.". I have the SP2 installed in all the SQL Server and my local mechine. All SQLAgents have Domain Admin permission. I just cound not figure out where that user 'null' come from.
I really appreciate that anyone can give me some hints to make the DTS scheduling work. Thanks!
How dow you schedule a file(.dtsx)(I think it is a package) that was created in the SQL Server BI Design Studio to run? I can locate the file I created in SQL Server Management Studio and see it in the right hand pane and even edit it. I can run it in the Design Studio, but cant see how to do that in Management Studio nor how to schedule it.
This is my first attempt at recreating a DTS package using SQL Server tools instead of the Legacy conversion wizard, and I think my brain has overheated. I just cant find it on the Management Screen or the Design. I am also not searching correctly anymore on books online because I cannot find it.
Thanks for pointing me to where I need to go or do.
Hi, Instead of runing a report through the schedule that I have created, I am invoking the SQL Agent Job that has been created for the schedule of the report, using the system stored procedure sp_startjob. Is this a recommended approach? Are there drawbacks for this approach? Subash
I have eight DTS packages. I would like to schedule all of time to run every night. Can I do this in sequence like something similar to scheduling "Job" in SQL Server Agent, when package one finish, immediately execute package two, then package three...and so on.
My packages are migrated over our new 2005 server. How do I schedule/run them? BOL seems to suggest that we replace the dtsrun commands with the dtexec one. Am I on the right track?
I created a few in SqlServer2005 DEV version and ran them manually with success. But where are they? I chose the SqlServer storage option and I see them when I create Job and steps but how do I view/edit these packages from SqlServer Mgmt. Studio? The SSIS service is running.
I have a table need to export to excel. 3 columns are 4000k. I can create the ssis package by using import and export wizard and it works fine. But when I try to edit the destination connection for excel, like using another excel file. In the edit window, the Name of the Excel Sheet box is empty, I click new button. It always fail. (with the 3 columns created as varchar (4000) or nvarchar(4000).
I am wondering how import and export wizard can create this table which I can't create it manually?

We are running SQL server 2003 with SP3. I'm trying to shrink a data files with the emptyfile option so I can eventually remove the file using the alter database command. However, I get the following error message when I run the alter database command:
Error: the file PRADATA4 cannot be removed because it is not empty.
The file that I'm trying to remove still has 62 extents on it. I looked MS Knowledge base 254253 and 279511 on this problem but they say it is corrected by SQL server 7.0 with service pack 3. commands that I'm running are as follows:
1) USE PRA DBCC TRACEON(8901) DBCC SHRINKFILE ('PRADATA4', EMPTYFILE) DBCC TRACEOFF(8901)
2) USE PRA GO ALTERDATABASE PRA REMOVE FILE PRADATA4 GO
hi, can anyone explain, how to execute package with sql server agent:
the problem is::
i made a integration service package (in visual studio 2005). When I 'm in visual studio and do "execute" the package it works well. Then I build a dtsx file. When i double click on it, it opens and if i do execute, it works well.
I want to execute the package every week automatically. I write a job in SQL server agent, in Steps I choosed Type=SQL server Integration service packege, then General->packacge source -> file system, and then wrote where the dtsx file is (which was built). "Run as" I choose my user name.
then i'm trying to start a job, but it fails, and writes "The package execution failed."
trying to get a new database created then running a script to created the tables, relationships, indexes and insert default data. All this I'm making happen during the installation of my Windows application. I'm installing SQL 2012 Express as a prerequisite of my application and then opening a connection to that installed SQL Server using Windows Authentication.
E.g.: Data Source=ComputerNameSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=master;Integrated Security=SSPI; Then I run a query from my code to create the database eg: "CREATE DATABASE [MyDatabaseName]".
From this point I run a script using a Batch file containing "SQLCMD....... Myscriptname.sql". In my script I have my tables being created using "Use [MyDatabaseName] Go CREATE TABLE [dbo].[MyTableName] .....". So question is, should I have [dbo]. as part of my Create Table T-SQL commands? Can I remove "[dbo]."? Who would be the owner of the database? If I can remove the [dbo]., should I also remove dbo. from any query string from within my code?
I've run into a problem with SSIS packages wherein tasks that write or copy files, or create or delete directories, quit execution without any hint of an error nor a failure message, when called from an ASP.NET 2.0 application running on any other machine than the one where the package was created from. By all indications it appeared to be an identity/permissions problem.
Our application involves a separate web server and database server. Both have SQL Server 2005 installed, but the application server originally only had Integration services. The packages are file system-deployed on the application server, and are called using Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime methods. For all packages that involve file system tasks, the above problem occurs.
When the above packages are run using the command prompt (either DTEXEC or DTEXECUI) the packages execute just fine. This is expected since we are using an administrative account. However when a ShellExecute of the same command is called from ASP.NET, the same problem occurs.
I've tried giving administrative permissions to the ASPNET worker process user to no avail.
I have likewise attempted to use the SQL Server Agent job approach but that approach might not be acceptable for our clients since it means installing SQL Server 2005 Database services on the application server.
I have read the relevant threads in this forum, namely http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1044739&SiteID=1 and http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=927084&SiteID=1 but failed to find any solution appropriate for our set up.
We manage some SSIS servers, which has only SSIS and SSIS tools installed on them and not the sql server DB.
SSIS packages and configuration files are deployed on a NAS. We run the SSIS packages through DTEXEC by logging in to the server.
We want to allow developers to run their packages on their own on the server, but at the same time we dont want to give them physical access on the server i.e we do not want to add them into RDP users list on server properties. We want them to allow running their packages remotely on the server.
One way We could think of is by using powershell remoting and we are working on that. But is there any other way or any tool already present for the same.
Here i have small problem in transactions.I don't know how it is happaning. Up to my knowldge if you start a transaction in side the transaction if you have DML statements Those statements only will be effected by rollback or commit but in MS SQL SERVER 7.0 and 6.5 It is rolling back all the commands including DDL witch it shouldn't please let me know on that If any one can help this please tell me ...........Please............ For Example begin transaction t1 create table t1 drop table t2
then execute bellow statements select * from t1 this query gives you table with out data

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa177009(SQL.80).aspx i need to schedule asp code execution using SQL Stored Procedure ...im not allowed to connect using Enterprise Manager is it possible in ASP and in case how?
Hi all, I want to make a job schedular in SQLServer 2005. That is i want to send email to users daily at 12:00 PM. how can i schedule using SQLServer Agent in SQLServer 2005. And i want to filter the users from user table. Please help me Thanks!
I have lots of DTS Packages that I am running manually daily and I am trying to create schedule all of those and all of them are failing. Some of those are accross domians, but the owner on both domains have same userId and password.
Any Idea why this is failing would be really helpful
I would like to import data via DTS from one db to another to run every half hour. What would be the easier way to do this?Should I setup a job to run every half hour?
If anyone could help with some suggestions , it would be appreciated.
When I try to schedule a DTS package which is an EXE it doesn't run. If I just run the DTS package it works fine. I have checked the permissions of the DTS scheduled package and made sure it had proper rights. SQL Server Services were started with the proper security rights. When I schedule the DTS package, it is being done on the Server, and not a workstation. Any ideas on why it will not run?...
Also, How do you schedule and EXE under SQL Server Agent Jobs. Even when I schedule an EXE that is not a DTS package it doesn't run...
I have almost completed a full project by myself which is soooo exciting. The last thing I need to do is schedule a job to run the query on a specific day and time. So how do I do this? It asks me for a command and I am not sure what I am supposed to enter in here.
Im trying to schedule a DTS package that I have created. When I right click on the package in Enterprise Manager and click on "Schedule" I get the options to set up the job to run on a schedule.
I fill out the time and click "OK". But when I immediately right click on the package again, all my settings are gone, and the defaults are back in place.
How do I know if the package will run- or if it did run?
I would actually prefer to run the job from a command line using a Scheduled Task... What would the syntax be? My DTS Local Package is named "IMPORT_DAILY_UPDATE"
I create a new in SQL Server Agent. However, When I click start Job at step, the first step start immediately, not the schedule I set. So How can do I make it to run at the schedule time?
