Cannot Access SQL 2005 Integrated Services After Intalling SQL-2005 SP2

Jul 5, 2007

Hi,

Users having a difficulty of accessing (Access denied) SQL-2005 integrated services after installing SQL-SP2. This was working fine prior to SP2 installation.

I found out that when I give administrator access (to the SQL box) for those users it works fine but it is not a good way to go.

I have already updated client tools to SP2 in both the server & client PCs.

Anyone have come across this situation? I really appreciate a helping hand.

Thanks

Eshaan

Using Integrated Security From .Net Web To Access SQL Server 2005

Oct 19, 2007

If I am posting to the wrong forum, please point me in the right direction.
We have upgraded to SQL Server 2005 and Window 2003 from SQL Server 2000 and Windows 2000, and have been having all kinds of problems with security of our web applications. We have been forced to put the system account of the web server as a user in the database in order for the web applications to work. We have lost the ability to control security at the user/role level. Is this the way security is going to work in Windows 2003/SQL Server 2005? How do I use integrated security so that I can secure web pages and database objects?
Thanks

Migrating Reporting Services 2005 With Integrated Sharepoint 2007 To Another Server

Sep 27, 2007

hello good afternoon, I am having this issue, I need to move reporting services from one server to another, but I need that credentials, roles and reports stay the same. But as the reporting services is integrated with sharepoint, dont know if I can move both at the same or it has to be done one at a time. this is just data migration, but still I will like to Know how it can be done having the same structure with the roles and credentials. or it is prefered to do a ghost?? but the issue will be that we have the reporting services in one place and the data in another... don´t know how this will affect. thanks in advanced for the help.

Reporting Services 2005 In SharePoint Integrated Mode With Forms Based Authentication

Feb 6, 2008

Well, I have SQL Server 2005 SP2 Reporting Services installed and configured in sharepoint integrated mode, so I am deploying reports in sharepoint libraries. Also I configured sharepoint to use forms authentication with builtin AspNetSqlMembership provider, but after this action I couldnot open reports through sharepoint library, instead of this, error was displayed mentioned below. I searched and found hotfix Cumulative Update 3 build 3186 for this issue, request it from microsoft support and applied it, but nothing has changed!

Error I have been experiencing is following:

An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server.
Verify that the report server is available and configured for
SharePoint integrated mode. --> The request failed with the error
message:
--
<html><head><title>Object moved</title></head><body>
<h2>Object moved to <a href="/_layouts/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=
%2f_vti_bin
%2fReportServer%2fReportService2006.asmx">here</a>.</h2>
</body></html>

I continued to dig and find out that this hotfix should update Microsoft.ReportingServices.SharePoint.UI.WebParts.dll from version 9.0.3042.0 to new version 9.0.3180.0, but when I checked file version after applying hotfix, it remained the same as was before i.e. 9.0.3042.0. Apparently this cumulative update does not fix this issue.
anyone has any idea how to solve it? Thanks in advance.

sorry for my poor english :-)

Visual Studio 2005 - Reporting Services 2005 Access Import Error

Oct 22, 2007

I am trying to import Access reports using Visual Studio 2005 and Access 2007. SQL Server 2005 with Reporting Services is also installed. I select Reports in the Solution Explorer and then Import Reports... Microsoft Access and browse to my Access database. After I select the database I see it open briefly as if it is trying to import the reports but then Access quickly closes and a error pops up: "You already have the database open." I have checked and double checked and the database is not open. I have even tried several different databases and the same errror occurs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't Access Reporting Services In Management Studio Or Web Interface Using Windows Integrated Security

May 12, 2008

I know from searching this forum that there have been many variations of the issue I'm currently suffering, but I haven't found anything quite like mine or a solution to solve it. The issue I'm running into is that I am unable to log on to Reporting Services using Management Studio or the web interface when Windows Integrated Security is enabled. I have full functionality using basic security, but the risks involved make it impossible to deploy basic authentication out into production. The error I'm receiving in Management Studio is The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.RSClient). I recieve the same error when I try the web interface.

I've looked the most recent logfile in WindowsSystem32LogFilesW3SVC1 and these entries match up to the time I attempted my authentication.

I tried to highlight one of each of the HTTP errors I am getting. 401.2 and 401.1 are the ones I kind of expected, but have no idea why I'm getting them. The 500 0 error is a bit troubling, because unless I'm mistaken thats a server side error.

Here's my current setup. As far as I can tell, I've done everything to set up correctly for Windows Integerated security.

My Specs
The server machine running all SQL 2005 services. It resides in a domain. All Clients are in the same domain.

Intel Dual Processor 3.20 gig Xenon

Windows Server 2003 w/ SP2

Microsoft Sql Server 2005 w/ SP2
Reporting Services Setup
The virtual directories Reports and ReportServer are set to Windows Integrated Security with Anonymous Access disabled. All other checkboxes in Directory Security are unchecked. For permissions in Reports, I have:

Administrators (servernameAdministrators) - Full Control

ASP.NET Machine Account - Modify, Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read, Write

Authenticated Users - Modify, Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read, Write

Creator Owner - No permissions

Domain Users - Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read

SQLServer2005ReportingServices]WebServiceUsers$... - Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read

SQLServer2005ReportServerUsers$... - Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read

SYSTEM - Full Control

Users (CompNameUsers) - Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read
In ReportServer I have the same permissions except Authenticated Users is absent.

At one point, I even added the account Everybody and gave it full control, and I still recieved a HTTP 401 error. Any help at what I might be missing would be a godsend.

Thanks.

Access Denied - SQLSERVER 2005 Integration Services

Nov 15, 2006

Hi:

I am getting access denied error "cannot connect to server" while trying to connect Integration Services. I am trying to connect from my laptop to the SQLSERVER database server.

I followed the document "Connecting to a Remove Intergration Services Server" , doc id: aa337083.

But I can connect to IS if I log remotely to the server.

Any thoughts on this ?

Thanks

RS 2005 SP2 In Sharepoint Integrated Mode

Mar 6, 2007

Up until an hour ago, I was using the Sql Server Reporting Services Report Viewer webpart in Sharepoint with forms authentication, and was not having an issue. The only thing that I did (or remember doing) before things went sour was upload a new report to the document list and since then whenever I try to access a report, manage the data source on a report, change the report URL in the webpart, I get the following message:

An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode. --> The request failed with the error message:
--
<html><head><title>Object moved</title></head><body>
<h2>Object moved to <a href="/_layouts/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2f_vti_bin%2fReportServer%2fReportService2006.asmx">here</a>.</h2>
</body></html>

--.

I found some related posts and have tried the following, but none have helped:

Removed all reports and reuploaded only the one that was definitely working.
I changed the application pool for the report server to be the same app pool as Sharepoint (runs under domain admin account).
I changed the application pool for the report server back to it's original (which the Reporting Services Configuration prefers - was running under Network Service acct before the problem started, now running under domain admin acct)
I can browse to http://server/reportserver.
I'm running under forms authentication, which had been working.
I can access the three configs for Reporting Services under Application Management in Central Admin - I've tried changing the settings.
I can access http://server/_vti_bin/reportserver/reportservice2006.asmx as well as http://server/_vti_bin/reportserver/reportserviceauthentication.asmx (that was suggested in one post)
I've restarted IIS numerous times, and also finally rebooted the server.
I've created a new document list and set it for report content, just like the other list.

I also just noticed that even though I've set up my admin account as a site collection administrator, I now no longer see my report options under the New button in the document library (both the old and new). I don't know if this is related.

I'm sure that this is a case of something minor that I did that I forgot about. Any suggestions or other troubleshooting that I can do?

Thanks!

[Reporting Services 2005] Access Impossible Of The Report Server

Mar 4, 2008

Hello,

SQL Server Reporting Services 2005 (SSRS) is installed on Vista Ultimate.
I cannot access to the http://localhost/ReportServer page. IE posts an internal error HTTP 500.0 (after IE required a Windows account).
All the configurations of Reporting Services are OK. In the Log file, there is nothing: the Web Services does not seem to be launched.

By continuing the investigations in IIS 7 (activation of the €œRules of follow-up of the requests having failed€?, I found the error following:

IIS Trace Detail Highlights
No. EventName Details Time
53. MODULE_SET_RESPONSE_ERROR_STATUS Warning
ModuleName="IsapiModule", Notification="EXECUTE_REQUEST_HANDLER", HttpStatus="500", HttpReason="Internal Server Error", HttpSubStatus="0", ErrorCode="Syntaxe du nom de fichier, de répertoire ou de volume incorrecte. (0x8007007b)", ConfigExceptionInfo="" 09:02:33.716

Translation of the french sentence: ErrorCode="Incorrect syntax of the file name, the directory or the volume."

I made a full research on Internet and in the documentation at my disposal and I did not find anything which can advance me towards a beginning of solution€¦

Thank you with all for the assistance which you will be able to bring to me.

Reporting Services 2005 - Giving Access To All AD-users For A Specific Folder

Jan 21, 2008

I am in a project where we are using a vanillla Reporting Services 2005 with the builtin report portal. No sharepoint integration yet.

We have successful deployments where we limit access to different folders based on AD-accounts and groups. In this particular case I have a folder for which I would like to allow access to all AD-users within the entire company.

So basically I know how to limit access but I don't know how to enable access for everyone. Is there a simple way to do it? I have googled and search mshelp but I couldn't find anything. I will admit to the search being quite quick but as usual time is short.

Another Question About Login Failed, But With Windows NT Integrated Security For SQL 2005

Jan 4, 2006

Hi, Happy New Year!

I have been struggling with this problem for a while with SQL 2005.  I have never had such login problem with SQL 2000. Here is the scenario:

I have installed SQL2005 standard version on a XP Pro box and I am trying to access it from another XP Pro machine.  I can access it using a SQL user name and password that I set up on the server, but I have not had luck with using Windows NT Integrated security.  When I try to connect to it (e.g. by a UDL file), I get an error saying Login failed for user €˜HP-AMD64Guest€™ where €˜HP-AMD64€™ is the name of the PC running the SQL 2005.  I can access the files on the machine without any problem.  I do not understand why it uses €˜Guest€™ that is not what I use to log on my machine.  Does anyone have any clue to offer me?

Thank you in advance!

Parameter Passing In SQL Server 2005 Integration Services (SSIS) 2005

Jan 16, 2007

Hi All,

Parameter passing in SSIS 2005 sometimes appears to be a cumbursome task. I have been digging into this topic for quite some time and here i note down some simple steps to demonstrate parameter passing at Package level.

(1) Create a SSIS project using Business Intelligence 2005 Or VS 2005.

(2) Create datasource (.ds) and Data Source View as required.

(3) A default SSIS Package by the name Package.dtsx is created. Double click this and you are shown tabs for Control Flow, Data Flow, Event Handlers, Package Explorer. On the Control Flow, drap and drop Execute SQL Task from Control Flow Items in the toolbar.

(4) Lets now create a variable at Package level. Right click anywhere in the control flow box (not on the Task created in Step 3 above). Click on the Variables on the context menu displayed. Variables window appears on the left of the screen. Click the Add Variable box in this window to create a variable. Name it var1 (or whatever you may like), Scope as Package, DataType as String and Value as MyValue. This is only the default value.

(5) Now let us edit the SQL Task created in Step 3. Double on it, on the General tab you can change its Name, Description. Set ResultSet as None. We shall proceed to execute a stored procedure by name MySPName and pass it a parameter. Set ConnectionType as OLE DB. Select the connection you creates in step 2. Set SQLSourceType as Direct input. SQLStatement as MySPName ? . Note the ? mark after the name of the stored procedure. This is important to accept the variable value (var1) created in Step 4.

(6) Select Parameter Mapping tab now. Click on Add button. Select the Variable Name as User::var1. This is the user created variable of Step 4. Select Direction as Input, DataType as Varchar and Parameter Name as @var1. Click on OK now.

(7) This sets up the basic of parameter passing. Compile the project to verify everything works. Right Click on the SQL Task and select Execute Task. This will execute the package taking default value of the variable. This can be used along with dtexec command with /set option to pass the parameter at command prompt.

Problem - SQL 2005 Reporting Services Addin For Web Developer 2005 Express....

Dec 8, 2007

Hello,

I'm trying to make some reports using the sql 2005 reporting services addin for Visual Web Developer Express 2005. I download the add-in here. So far it installed "successfully". The problem i have is when i try to add a datasource to the report at "Report > Data Sources... " it gives me an error saying: "The system cannot find the file specified."

Another Error it gives is that when I try to drag a DataSet field from the Website Data Sources toolbox tab the visual web developer crashes :/.

An observation that I don't know if this is ok is when I create a new Data Source it creates an App_Code folder inside where my report is /Reports/ and there it saves the DataSet. Just an observation...

This is my development enviorment:

Laptop:

Windows Vista Home Premium (Up to date)
Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 with Service Pack 1

Server:

Microsoft Windows Server 2003
IIS 6.0
ASP.NET 2.0
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express

Here are some pictures of the erros:

Error 2

Please could someone help me fix this?

Upgrade From SQL Express 2005 Report Server With Advanced Services To SQL 2005 Standard Fails

Feb 25, 2008

I am trying to upgrade SQL Server Express 2005 Report Server to SQL 2005 Standard and it fails with the following error:

SQL Server Setup did not have the administrator permissions required to copy a file: C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.8Reporting ServicesReportServer
ssrvpolicy.config. To continue, verify that the file exists, and either grant administrator permissions to the account currently running Setup or log in with an administrator account. Then run SQL Server Setup again.

After I click OK on the message, this whole path where the upgrade is bieng installed dissapears C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.8Reporting Services. The error is a bit missleading because the file that it is trying to copy rssrvpolicy.config does appear in that upgrade folder so I am not sure why it would try to copy a file that has already been copied.

I was able to upgrade the Database Engine instance fine but can't upgrade Reporting Services due to that error. I have verified that the account that ran the setup had the administrator permissions. Your prompt reply to my question would be greatly appreciatted.

Reporting Services 2005 (VS 2005) Using Oracle 10g Stored Procedure

Apr 17, 2008

Hi,
I want to get data from Oracle 10g Stored procedure to Reporting Services 2005. I could pass a SQL text and get a record set, but I want to execute a store proc and get the record set.

1. Add New Data Source
2. Choose Type : Oracle and connection tested OK
3. { call Test_Package.Test_Procedure(?) } is it wrong... how to write???
There is an error in the query. ORA-00911: invalid character

Also make sure that you use the text-based generic query designer (2 panes !) instead of the visual query designer (4 panes) - you can switch between them through an icon on the toolbar in the data view of report designer.
Question : I tried many methods but unable to solve it...

create or replace
PACKAGE Test_Package
AS TYPE Test_Type IS REF CURSOR RETURN Test_Table%ROWTYPE;
END Test_Package;

create or replace PROCEDURE Test_Procedure (
Test_Cursor IN OUT Test_Package.Test_Type,
Test_Parameter IN Test_Table.ID%TYPE
)
AS
BEGIN
OPEN Test_Cursor FOR
SELECT *
FROM Test_Table WHERE Test_Table.ID >= Test_Parameter;
END Test_Procedure;

The below site gave some example but i could not solve it... any suggestions greatly appreciated...

Deny Builtin/administrators Full Access To Report Services Report Manager 2005

Apr 14, 2008

I need to prevent domain and local administrators from having full control over our report manager. (I want them to be assigned permissions just like everyone else, some reports they can see other reports they can not.)

How can I accomplish this? I tried going into Report Manager -> Site Settings -> Configure Site Wide Security and re-assigning BUILTINAdministrators to the System User role instead of the System Administrator role. (A different set of report manager admins was given the system administrator role).

However, it appears that members of the BUILTINAdministrators group still have full control in Report Manager.

Oct 18, 2007

I've installed MS SQL 2005 express, the version without advanced services...now I realized that my application requires the FULL-TEXT SEARCH feature that only the advanced services edition can provide. Please advice if I could just do an upgrade of the installation? Thank you.

But when connection to the site i'm gatting error that there is no trusted connection for the user . (dot) ...

URL Access And Sharepoint Integrated Mode

Sep 11, 2007

I am trying to run a Reporting services report and pass a parameter using url access and SP Integrated mode.

I have managed to come up with the following: http://DashBrdRptSite/reportserver?http://npvmdashbrd1:2764/Reports/dashbrdrptstore/real%20time%20running/test.rdl&rs:Command=Render&Year=2006&Year=2007&Month=1

This works perfect as long as I run it from the actual server that has Sharepoint and reporting services installed.

If I try to run it from my desktop, I get prompted for a user name and password. And now matter how many times I enter my user/pass... it does not work.

If I just run the sharepoint link that appears on the report when I run it from within sharepoint... such as

http://npvmdashbrd1:2764/Reports/DashBrdRptStore/_layouts/ReportServer/RSViewerPage.aspx?RelativeReportUrl=%2fReports%2fDashBrdRptStore%2fReal+Time+Running%2ftest.rdl&Source=http%3a%2f%2fnpvmdashbrd1%3a2764%2fReports%2fDashBrdRptStore%2fReal%2520Time%2520Running%2fForms%2fAllItems.aspx&DefaultItemOpen=0

That runs no problem no matter where I run it from (my desktop or the Sharepoint Server), but it looks like I cannot pass it parameters. I guess becuase it is useing RSViewerPage.aspx.

Can someone please help me out?

Thanks

Side-by-Side Install With SQL Express 2005 W/ Advanced Services And SQL Server 2005 Standard

Mar 21, 2007

I have SQL Express 2005 with Advanced Services on a development box that I also want to have installed side-by-side with SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition so I can develop apps using either edition based on the features I need (or don't need). From what I understand from sifting through other posts is that side-by-side installs of these two editions is supported and I should setup a named instance for each edition (SQLEXPRESS for the express edition and MSSQLSERVER for the standard edition). Is this setup accurate or is there another/better way?

Also, does anybody know if side-by-side installations of Reporting Services is also supported? If I install SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with Reporting Services, will there be two different report servers running in IIS? Since there are different features in Reporting Services between the two editions, I'm not sure how side-by-side installations will effect one another.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Tony

Integrated Security: Preventing Access Via Unauthorized Applications

Feb 20, 2008

Hi €“

We have built a .NET on SQL Server application with extensive business functionality and security. It uses SQL integrated security to control logon and access to the database objects. There is business logic built into the .NET code, so I don€™t want any chance that users access the tables directly through a tool such as Management Studio - many users need update, delete, insert on tables in order to use the applications functions. With integrated security they can logon through SQL Management Studio and change data in the tables directly.

How are people who are using integrated security for their business applications preventing logons through unauthorized tools or applications?

Integrated Video In Reporting Services?

Dec 11, 2007

Hello,

After searching the SQL reporting services forum for a while, I decided to lay this problem before you.
I am faced with the following problem:
I want to generate a report containing video data, this videodata is streamed into a SQL 2005 database.
The main question I have is whether it is at all possible to show moving images in an report? (for instance with a CRI?)
Or should I look in another direction (I initially thought of an external link to HTML file with an MediaPlayer Object and having the file stored on a harddisk for instance?)
Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated!

kind regards,

Michiel

Canot Telnet Into Port 1433 Affter Intalling SQL Server !

Sep 21, 2006

I'm working on a completely virgin install of SQL Server 2k in Windows 2003.
Just after install I check that the TCP/IP protocol is enabled under the
server properties and then I try to Telnet into port 1433. On this one
particular box I get back the following:

C:>telnet localhost 1433
Connecting to localhost...Could not open connection to the host, on port
1433: Connect failed.

For comparison I tested telnet on a couple other machines and I get back a
blank window ready for my commands, as I'd expect.

I've checked the firewall settings and other IP Filtering settings to see if
any of those were blocking traffic to 1433... nothing. I've triple checked
the SQL Server settings for any "problems" and nothing jumps out at me.

User Un-able To Connect To Integrated Services Within SSMS

Apr 17, 2008

Hi,
I am able to run an SSIS script from BI Visual Studio no problem, I am also able to connect to SSIS within SSMS successfully. I have system access rights to the Database Engine of the same server name.

However I have a user who also has full system access rights to the Database Engine of the same server name. However he can only connect to the database engine, he cannot connect to SSIS within SSMS, but he can successfully execute a SSIS script within BI Visual Studio which is targeted to the same server name which he can€™t connect to within SSMS.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Kieran.

Integrated Development Environment For Reporting Services

Jul 2, 2007

Is there a development environment for Reporting Services (2005) that is integrated with source control?

You can use Visual Studio to develop reports and place them under source control. But as far as I can tell, you cannot implement security, scheduling, etc. through Visual Studio. For these you can use a second environment, e.g. SQL Server Management Studio - but is this environment integrated with TFS?

In other words, is there a single development environment, integrated with TFS, where you can develop all aspects of Reporting Services reports?
