Cannot Build This Custom Select Statement...

I am trying to allow a user the ability to search a database and select from various fields to search, such as Keywords and Filename. I tried building something like this:
SELECT filename
FROM pictable
WHERE (@searchby LIKE @searchwords)
It allows me to enter the two varables (keywords and test), but returns no rows. If I simply replace @searchby with 'keywords' (ensuring no spelling errors), then I get a return of one row. So this works:
SELECT filename
FROM pictable
WHERE (keywords LIKE @searchwords)
Can someone tell me what is going on? I have tried all sorts of quotes and parens to no avail.

I am trying to SELECT data based on custom groups of that data. For example and in its simplest form:
SELECT COUNT(*)
FROMdbo.People
WHERE Current_Status = ‘A’
GROUP BY People_Code
The People_Code is the difficult part. The code represents the building that they work in. However, some buildings have multiple People_Codes. Kind of like multiple departments within a building.
For example:
Building NamePeople_CodeEmployee Count
Building A617535
Building B985665
Building C529212
Building C529932
Building C419816
Building D326974
Building D781024
Building E25365
Each building has a main People_code which, for this example, could be any one of the codes for the building. For example: Main code for building C can be 5292 and for building D it can be 7810.
Applying a variation (which is what I cannot figure out) of the SELECT statement above to this table, the result set for Building C must be the combined employee count of all three People_codes and must be represented by the main code of 5292 as a single row. Building D would have a row using code 7810 but will combine the employee count of codes 7810 and 3269.
I built a conversion table that would match up the main code with all of its related codes but just couldn’t seem to make it dance the way I want it to.

I want to add a custom column in a select statement that has a value to true or false based on other criteria.
SELECT [ID], [Name], [Description], [EmpID], [Employed] FROM [Employees]
Now, in the above example there is no [Employed] Column in my table but I want it to show true or false based on whether or not [EmpID] equals a certain value.

Is it possible to add a multivalued parameter to a report from C#? I already have a C# .dll which I reference in the report. If so, could someone give some hints on how to do it?
As I searched the net for an answer to this, I came across ReportExecutionService. It looks like it's what I want, but I cant find the dll to reference in order to used this class. Does anyone know?
If it is not possible to do this from C#, then can someone please give an example on how to do it from Custom Code?

I have 5 drop down lists and 1 text box, and I need to build the WHERE portion of my SELECT statment (stored procedure). the drop down lists are named client, ptype, apptdate, inspdate, state, and the textbox is named text. they all need to be this=something AND that=another AND...AND text LIKE mytext.
How would I go about building this efficiently?
Would I Declare a bit value in the sp called WhereSet = 0
IF @client IS NOT NULL IF @WhereSet = 0 SET @Where = 'WHERE ClientID=@client' SET @SetWhere = 1 ELSE SET @Where = @Where + ' AND CleintID=@client' . . ....
Or would this be a lot easier using adhoc SQL instead of a Stored Procedure?

The below code is ASP 1.0 to dynamically search a database and I want to use the same concept for a ASP.Net 2.0 solution. Do I do this in the code behind or on the aspx page and if on the aspx page what controls do I use for the array split? Basically where do I start. Hard to write a subject line to describe this one.
Anayway, I have a table with names and address plus an extra field noting a part number of product.
I'd like to build a SELECT string that will return one result for each name/address (uniques only in other words) and build a comma delimited field of all the part numbers for that name/address.
Example:
NAME ADDRESS PART NUMBER
John Smith 555 Main st., los angeles, ca 90003 5000
John Smith 555 Main st., los angeles, ca 90003 6650
Mike Jones 8569 West 18th Ave., San Diego, ca 1255
John Smith 555 Main st., los angeles, ca 90003 5144

So I'd like my results to look like this:

we have automated build on every night. In our solution is SSIS project, where each package is encrypted per password. We call build process per command line like this..

Through build process we get a error:

We think a reason is, that on build of SSIS project must be entered a password. You can wonder for what we need that SSIS packages are part of our build. We hope that on build process is also created Deployment Utility, if so set in dtproject.user. Is it so? Is there any way to create Deployment utility on automated build process? Can be a password provided pre command line?

In MS Access, I could write a function in a module, then just call that function as part of the SQL statement. For example, "SELECT RemoveDashes([SS_No]) AS SSN FROM Employee" with "RemoveDashes" being the name of the function.
I'm trying to do the same with an asp.net page and sql server. I have a custom function in the code behind that I call in the SQL statement, but I get the error, "not a recognized function name".
What do I need to do to make this work?

I am currently having this problem with gridview and detailview. When I drag either onto the page and set my select statement to pick from one table and then update that data through the gridview (lets say), the update works perfectly. My problem is that the table I am pulling data from is mainly foreign keys. So in order to hide the number values of the foreign keys, I select the string value columns from the tables that contain the primary keys. I then use INNER JOIN in my SELECT so that I only get the data that pertains to the user I am looking to list and edit. I run the "test query" and everything I need shows up as I want it. I then go back to the gridview and change the fields which are foreign keys to templates. When I edit the templates I bind the field that contains the string value of the given foreign key to the template. This works great, because now the user will see string representation instead of the ID numbers that coinside with the string value. So I run my webpage and everything show up as I want it to, all the data is correct and I get no errors. I then click edit (as I have checked the "enable editing" box) and the gridview changes to edit mode. I make my changes and then select "update." When the page refreshes, and the gridview returns, the data is not updated and the original data is shown. I am sorry for so much typing, but I want to be as clear as possible with what I am doing. The only thing I can see being the issue is that when I setup my SELECT and FROM to contain fields from multiple tables, the UPDATE then does not work. When I remove all of my JOIN's and go back to foreign keys and one table the update works again. If I run the test query for the update while setting up my data source the query will update the record in the database. This is my first project using ASP and working with databases so I am completely learning as I go. I took some database courses in college but I have never interacted with them with a web based front end. I really need some help trying to figure out why my gridview is not working when I create a custom sql statement. It "executes" the query, but gives me an error message when I "test the query". Here is the error message: "There was an error executing the query. Please check the syntax of the command and if present, the types and values of the parameters and ensure they are correct. Syntax error: Expecting '.', identifier or quoted identifier."
Here is my sql statement:

Ok I have a query "SELECT ColumnNames FROM tbl1" let's say the values returned are "age,sex,race".
Now I want to be able to create an "update" statement like "UPATE tbl2 SET Col2 = age + sex + race" dynamically and execute this UPDATE statement. So, if the next select statement returns "age, sex, race, gender" then the script should create "UPDATE tbl2 SET Col2 = age + sex + race + gender" and execute it.

Hello,
Why when I make a custom select statment with multiple tables, that when I test my query I'm shown the same rolls multiple times. When I make a custom query with just one table everything works just fine. I don't have any primary keys or restraints or whatever.
SELECT * FROM table1, table2, table3 Does not work(shows each row multiple times)
SELECT * FROM table1 works just fine (shows each row just one time)

If I use the custom SQL statements in SqlDataSource, the application runs fine within the development environment (VS2005) but errors out if I publish the web site and access outside of the environment. In order to find-out the problem, I made the following test:
I created a select statement in one SqlDataSource to fill-in a GridView. I used the exact same statement to create a stored procedure and used that SP in second SqlDataSource and I fill a second GridView. When I debug or run the application, both grids are filled OK and everything works fine. However, when I publish the web site and try to do same only the stored procedure works fine and when I try to fill the grid using the built-in SQL, the page gives error. The error mesage is as follows when I use the address 'localhost':

If I access the page using the IP address the message chages to below but it is not the issue, I just give it if it helps to find the problem:

I would like to run a simple select statement that pulls records from a table and returns a dataset. It is a dataset of teams. Then I want to populate a highly customized table with that dataset. The table will be a tournament bracket full of teams. Can I do something like this or do I have to display the dataset in a datagrid? Oh and this is a webmatrix project using MSDE. I have 3 tables, with this relation:
tblChats.WebsiteID = tblWebsite.ID
tblWebsite.AccountID = tblAccount.ID
I need to delete rows within tblChats where tblChats.StartTime - GETDATE() < 180 and where they are apart of @AccountID. I have this select statement that works fine, but I am having trouble converting it to a delete statement:

I am creating a custom transformation component, and a custom user interface for that component.
In
my custom UI, I want to show the custom properties, and allow users to
edit these properties similar to how the advanced editor shows the
properties.
I know in my UI I need to create a "Property Grid".
In
the properties of this grid, I can select the object I want to display
data for, however, the only objects that appear are the objects that I
have already created within this UI, and not the actual component
object with the custom properties.
How do I go about getting the properties for my transformation component listed in this property grid?

SELECT ArticleID, ArticleTitle, ArticleDate, Published, PublishDate, PublishEndDateFROM UserArticlesWHERE (ArticleDate >= PublishDate) AND (ArticleDate <= PublishEndDate)
When I use the above on a GridView I get nothing. Using SQL manager it works great.
I don't know how to pass the value of the ArticleDate field as a default parameter or I think that's what I don't know how to do.
I am trying to create a app that I can set the dates an article will appear on a page and then go away depending on the date.
