I have an SSIS package where I have directed the error output to a Flat File Destination. The issue is that there are some bad entried in a set of log files, where the source file reads on more delimited column than there are actual columns. (As in there are 26 column headers, and one row will have 27 commas, or delimiters.) I am trying to redirect the row output to put the bad rows into a Flat File for debugging purposes. Although, the package is not able to continue past the error. As soon as it hits the bad row, it fails despite the error output.
I have a CSV file which sometimes contains the odd CSV error, for this reason the odd row throws an error.
If I have a clean CSV file my SSIS package works great, but I am having problems getting the package to continue past the rows in the file that throw errors.
How do I :
Get the package to continue on error, I have tried playing with the Propagate Variable with no joy
Add an Error event, which will capture the error and log it to a SQL table or File Destination? Any help will be great!
I have a package that extracts data from a Flat File. If any errors or truncation occur during the extraction of the input data, the package should fail. All fields that have erroneous values should be reported in the log file.
My Solution: - I have created a Data Flow Task that contains a Flat File Source Adapter and a dummy destination.
- I have left the default "Error Output" configuration of the Flat File Source adapter, namely if a truncation or an error occur for a certain column, then the reaction is "Fail Component".
Problem: This configuration gives me only the first erroneous column in the row being processed.
Question: Is it possible to make the Flat File Source adapter continue parsing the current row before it fails? This way, I would be able to get all the erroneous columns in the row in one shot.
Hi every one, I have a database table and currently users may retrieve records for a specified date range by providing the start and end dates and then records between those dates provided are retrieved. For example if users wanted to view all records entered in april, they would have to select 04/01/2007 as the start date and then 04/30/2007 as the end date. The records for april would then be displayed in a gridview. How can configure my sql query such that instead the user selectes a month from a dropdownlist of 12 months. I would love a user to just select the desired month from a list instead of selecting start and end dates. Eg if they are intrested in a report for june, then they should just select june from the list instead of specifying the start and stop dates. HOW can i achieve this.
i have a weird situation here, i tried to load a unicode file with a flat file source component, one of file lines has data like any other line but also contains the character "ÿ" which i can't see or find it and replace it with empty string, the source component parses the line correctly but if there is a data type error in this line, the error output for that line gives me this character "ÿ" instead of the original line.
simply, the error output of flat file source component fail to get the original line when the line contains hidden "ÿ".
First-time poster (and very new to ASP.NET, so please be patient) - I am using VS 2005. I have an ASP.Net 2.0 app that is using Forms Authentication and a Login server control with AspNetSqlMembershipProvider. I have an instance of ASPNETDB.MDF in the App_Data directory on my local machine and all works well (or at least as expected). I used the Copy Web Site function to port the app (including the ASPNETDB.MDF files) to my production platform, where I encounter the error mentioned in the subject line. I have found posts (both here and other forums) that mention enabling TCP/IP using Surface Area Configuartion Utility, SQL Server Browser are exempt from firewall, and a few other things. My production machine does not have SQL SVR 2005 installed nor SQL SVR Express. Do I have to install SQL Server Express onto my production platform in order to resolve this, or is there another means (something in SQL Server 2005 Management Studio on my local machine) that will enable me to do this on the production machine? Also, I have been told that it is possible to use a database on another machine as the data store for authentication. Does anyone know how to do that? This would make the first question moot. Thanks in advance!
I have 50GB datafile (.mdf) and have 650 mb lift on the hard drive. I have another drive (on the same box) which has about 30 GB left. My question is can i create a .ndf file in that 30GB drive and continue the database growth on the new .ndf file with out any furthur growth on the .mdf file? please help!
Thanks in advance!

I'm wondering if there is any way to get SSIS to notice, in the Flat File Source, that a "Ragged right" text input file has a record that is too short to populate all the specified columns.
I am reading data from a file that is supposed to be fixed length records, but record 193,591 (out of approx. 500,000) is 20 bytes short of the fixed length (60 bytes). So I changed the input to "ragged right" and found that I can thereby continue to read the file, and load the data (after setting the "maximum errors" to a number greater than the initial "1"). (Without this change to "ragged right", every record after the bad one was "out of synch" with the column arrangement -- so they never made it into the database table destination.)
But the "failures" I am now getting are during the Data Conversion step, when I try to convert some columns to integers (from text, in the input stream). And by looking at the data with a "Redirect Row" setting for the Data Conversion step, I am able to see that the Flat File Source is reading "right past the end of the row."
Is there a way to get the Flat File Source to honor the CR-LF record terminator, and decide that some text columns should contain "nothing" (NULL or zero-length strings), rather than the bytes that contain the CR-LF and the initial text from the next record? Can this somehow be noticed as an error condition?

I have a problem with my SSIS. I have a data flow with a file source in csv, but itself has 140 000 rows, so when I execute the date flow, I have a error who say that the data exceed the temp of I/O (sorry for the translate, but I have the message in french). I test to pass the DefaultBufferMaxRow to 140000 but I have always the problem.
i am importing a file using the Flat File Data Flow Source, it works fine but seems to miss data records every so often (not entire rows, just records inside the rows). The file has 149 columns and usually has around 15,000 to 20,000 rows.
For example, this is a sample of the input: AccountNum, CancelDate, CancelReason 123~2/2/08~ADC 345~2/1/08~CCC 789~2/5/08~CRC
After the Flat File Source imports the file I get back: AccountNum, CancelDate, CancelReason 123~2/2/08~ADC 345~2/1/08~ 789~2/5/08~CRC
has anyone ever seen this or heard of this happening. It is usually the same column that misses records and this only happens when it runs from a job (in debug mode it always works fine).
How can I cause my insert statement to skip over (without failing) rowswhere there's a primary key constraint violation?I've got a case where daily I insert >500k rows of daily data, wherethe data is date and time stamped. So, for example, I have an insertstatement with constraint: WHERE date >= '5/20/05' AND date <'5/21/05'. That takes care of one day's data (5/20).However, the next day's data (5/21) will still have some time stampsfrom the previous day. Therefore the statement needs to be somethinglike WHERE date >= '5/20/05' AND date <= '5/21/05'. The 5/20 data isalready loaded but I need to take the 5/21 data which just happens tocontain just a few rows of data marked 5/20 and insert it withoutgenerating a primary key error from all the other 5/20 rows that arealready inserted.-Dave
I have an SSIS package that uses a for each loop to send an order confirmation e-mail. If it does not find an email I need the package to continue after the failure path. The package stops after the failure, but I need it to continue with the next iteration of the for each loop. How can I do this?
I have a sql statement which runs through a reference table to drop columns no longer needed. It works, however if it tries to delete a column that does not exist, it errors out. Is there a way to continue if this error appears(I have the set error routine set up) The question is can I tell it if it is this error to go on, and is "continue" the right syntax? Below is statement
open dbcursor fetch next from dbcursor into @tbname,@fldname,@recid while (@@FETCH_STATUS <> -1) begin --set @tbname = 'IMMUNIZATION_MAST_' --set @fldname = 'cb_other' set @sql = 'alter table ' + ltrim(@tbname) set @sql3= ' drop column ' + ltrim(@fldname) exec(@sql + @sql3) select @error = @@error if @error = 5924 begin CONTINUE? end print @error
My distribution agent failed becos of a primary key violation error in a table.[i have not included the skip error option].
Then the replication stopped. The transactions on other tables are also not replicated to B.
IF an error is encountered in one of the tables will the replication stop entirely??.Is there no way for the replication to continue for the rest of the tables.. Pls clarify
If one of the insert fails ... don't continue, the statement fail. For example if any field in A violate a constraint in B, the statement fails.
I want that the statement continue if errors occurs, if i lost a number of rows don't matter ... but if i can save or log this row will be great too !!
We have a package that loads the data from several excel files into database in a forloop.
Everything works files until the package hits the bad file.
My goal is to continue the loop to process the rest of the files by skipping the bad file and error. In each task OnError I am creating custom error message to send an error/ sucess summary email out at end of the process.
How can force the for loop to continue when there is an error?
How can we continue with the rest of the iterations in ForEach Loop after handle an error.
I Have a dataflow task inside a for-each loop and processing a set of flat files in that. When error occurs in the dataflow task, i moved that particular flat file to another location. But, If an error occurs at first falt file, It moves that flat file to the location i specified and not continue with the next file (The Execution finished at that stage itself afetr the first flat file).
I Set the FailParentonFailue of Dataflow task to TRUE (Since its inside the for loop).
Any thing i have to change ? Or Where i miss the thing.
I'm getting a very strange potential loss of data error on my flat file source in the data flow. The flat file is fixed width and the column in question is defined as numeric [DT_NUMERIC]. The transform runs great if this column IS NOT A ZERO. As soon as a zero value is found, I get the error. It errors on the flat file source, so I haven't been able to use a data viewer to see what's going on.
I m using SSIS and i am transfering the data from Flat File Source to the OLE DB destination File. The source file contain some corrupt data which i am transfering to the other Flat file destination file.
Debugging is succesful but i am not getting any error output in the Flat file destination file.
i had done exactly which is written in the msdn tutorial of SSIS.
Plz tell me why i am not getting the error output in the destination flat file?
Please... any ideas? Is this a footprint config issue?

does anybody know this error code? I get that error from a jdbc-connection ocasionally but can't find an explanation. The original message is in German. The number should be ok. The error occures when a transaction is aborted, the jdbc-connection is lost.

When attempting to save an SSIS package in Visual Studion I receive the following error message detailed below. If I attempt to "Save As" to another location, I then receive an insufficient storage error. The development machine has over 1.5 GB of available physical memory and several GB of disk space availabe to save my 16 MB package. I have checked the event log and have found no related messages in the Application or Server logs.
Any suggestions on how to determine the cause or resolution of this error message would be greatly appreciated.

Problem: ColA (Source) Rounding error to PARTY_NO (Destination) I have a field of text of in a flat file that the flat file connection manager Source picks up correctly €œ70000893€? However when it gets the OLE DB Connection Destination the data has changed to 70000896. That€™s before its even Written to the database. The only clue that something is wrong in the middle is the great Data viewer shows the number as 7.000009E+07 Other clues looking at the data it appears there is a rounding error on only the number that dont end in 00 ColA (Source) PARTY_NO (Destination) 71167300 71167296 70329000 70329000 70410000 70410000 Any ideas people? I am trying to create a program that transfers tables to flat files. At this point in time, I have suceeded in created one that creates delimited files.
However, I am now trying to create fixed-width files as you can do with the SSIS designer, but programatically.
Is there a way to programatically determine the width of a column from the source table? I can not seem to find any kind of function or member that stores this information or allows me to retrieve it.
I know what I need to change in order to set a width for a column, but I just don't know how to find the width without just asking the user to provide one.
its my flow in one of my packates (ETL job) Excel file contains monthly revenue details, i wanna import the excel data to my database staging table, so i've created the package. its working fine...
Problem if we change the new data for the next month and running the package its not running; the same file, same format, only we delete the contents, of the file except first row of the excel sheet, and pasting the new data; new data is coming from Oracle DataBase in the form of excel sheet ( manually they will copy the data and sending to us)
i open that package in design mode and while double clicking the excel file source it says <column name>'s Meta Data needs to be synchronized Do you want to Fix this issue automatically with the available external column's meta data
Clearly noted that its a data type issue; i have changed the corresponding data types as it is in the previous Excel sheet which is equivalant to the Table its copying to.
now the package is running with validation warnings, External Column "Invoice Amount" needs to be updated...etc. some 2 or three warning messages i can able to see in the package Execution wizard,
ok, i'm ready to accept these warnings, and i want my package running from my server;( packages had been deployed in to the Centeralized server; every time if we want to run the package, we have the asp.net webpage, that is executing the package in an On_click event)
The package is not running from the server, its due to the meta data change in the Excel file( i guess)
please suggest me some guide lines to resolve this meta data issue, i want my excel sheet meta data should not change when we have new updates in it;
otherwise suggest me some solutions that i can validate the excel sheet before running the package and testing whether the data is in correct format or not? its a kind of Data Profiling activity;
i know its some what crazy, but i need to maintain the system with permanent solution, instead of facing this meta data mismatch issue!!!
some what lenthy explanation--> its needed for my dear powerful microsoft responders. i think i 've explained my problem clearly, if i don't let me know your queries, i'll try my level best.
I have created a File System task which is contained in a Foreach Loop Container. I have .bak files that are populating a directory from a maintenance backup plan.
There is a point where I need to delete the .bak file's after I've zipped them all up.
How do I set the SourceVariable to read through the directory and pick up just the .bak file's in the directory to delete.
