Cannot Deploy Reports With Parameters
Oct 3, 2007
Hi,
I am a beginner with SQL Reporting Services and having a problem. I can deploy reports with no parameters and the datasources fine. But when I deploy a report with a parameter I get the following error "An unexpected error occurred in Report Processing." I looked at the log file and this is what I found. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I have created a report project file on my local machine. Now I'm trying to deploy those reports to a development server. I have installed sql server and tools in my local machine but never configured reporting services. When I try to deploy those reports, it asks username and password for reporting services login.
But usually as far as I know, i should be able to deploy my reports without entering password etc. Even if I enter username and password, still they dont work.
Is that becase I install SQL server in my local machine?
Does anyone know why?
Thanks

Hi, I am a new user for RS so this might be a very dump question for some of the advanced users here.
I am using SQL 2005 RS and was wondering how I can deploy reports to specific folders that I created on the Reports page. I do know that I can go to Properties to move the reports to different folders. But the problem I have is when I deploy the reports from VS 2005 ( I created the reports using VS 2005) they were deployed back to the old/root folder. How can I change the 'deploy-to' destination folder for the reports in VS 2005?
Many Thanks,
Casey

This seems to be a basic issue, but I am having a problem trying to deploy a report to Reporting Services.
I have setup the deployment options under the properties of the Project. But each time I try to deploy a report, I get "The request failed with HTTP status 504: Gateway Time-out"
When I try to connect to connect directly to the TargetServerURL via a web browser from my client or the server itself, I can browse the structure fine. Not sure why I can't deploy via Visual Studio.
Thoughts?
Thanks

We have a custom assembly that worked fine with SSRS 2000. Now that we have upgraded to SQL 2005 we get an "Access is denied" error when attempting to deploy reports that reference this assembly. I could swear that when we first attempted it it worked. We decided to make a minor change to the assembly code and that's when the problem started, even though I've since reverted back to the original code to make certain that the minor change wasn't the issue. The assembly is in the proper folder - C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2Reporting ServicesReportServerin - and the reports are referencing the current version. I've searched high and low on the web for an answer but have found nothing even remotely helpful. All this code does is return a string...it's not doing anything that should require any additional security; and even then I doubt if there would be a problem when deploying.
The full text of the error is:
Error while loading code module: €˜Reporting, Version=1.0.2778.12272, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null€™. Details: Could not load file or assembly 'Reporting, Version=1.0.2778.12272, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. Access is denied.
Any ideas? Anyone? I'm at my wit's end on this!
Thanks,
Mike

Hi,
I'm working with the Dec CTP of SQL 2005 SP2 and the associated Sharepoint addin.
I've been able to get a report created in VS2005 and manually uploaded to the Document Library holding reports, and the report works when I open it (using an internal datasource, not shared).
My first problem is I can't get VS2005 to deploy datasources or reports to my doc library.
I have configured
TargetDataSourceFolder http://server/site/doclib
TargetReportFolder http://server/site/doclib
TargetServerURL http://server/
When I try to deploy my Shared Data Source, it asks me to login, and will not accept my credentials (I am farm administrator, and site collection administrator, and local administrator, and a site owner)
Secondly, for the report I manually uploaded, I can't edit it in Report Builder (from Sharepoint) because I get stuck on entering something that works into the Select Site or Server dialog box. I've tried http://server/ and http://server/site/ and http://server/site/doclib
Can I have some tips please?
Thanks
Martin

Hi
Having finally managed to get over the hump of getting Sharepoint integrated mode working in a farm install, I am having a problem deploying reports from Visual Studio to Sharepoint.
I have set the deploy properties as follows:
TargetDataSourceFolder: http://ppdwn-bl10:8888/ReportTest/Data Sources
TargetReportFolder: http://ppdwn-bl10:8888/ReportTest/Harvest Reports
TargetServerURL: http://ppdwn-bl10:8888/
Visual Studio is updated to Service Pack 2, as is of course the report server.
The reports APPEAR to deploy - they actually appear in the document library after deployment! But the result is:
------ Build started: Project: Harvest Reports, Configuration: Debug ------

Is there a known problem with BIS Deploy not clearing cache. I repeatly (but not always) have an issue where I will do a BIS Deploy of an RDL but when I run it, the old report runs. I can't clear this out until I explicitly log into the Report Manager and explicitly delete the RDL and re-deploy from the BIS.
Is there a workaround, fix, process change, configuration change I can do to keep this from happening?

Hello, I have a configuration where my SharePoint services are running on a web machine and the SQL server reporting services are running on a different machine.
I installed SQL SP2 and the SQL Server Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint by following all the instructions listed in €œConfiguring Reporting Services for SharePoint 3.0 Integration€? (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb326356.aspx).
My issue is that when I Deploy a report from a VS Report Server project by running Visual Studio on the machine where reporting servicers is running, everything works fine.
But if I try the same thing on any other machine on the network, I get a €œThe file you are attempting to save or retrieve has been blocked from this Web site by the server administrators.€? message.
I€™m sure I€™m missing something on the configuration but I can€™t tell what.
Thanks a lot

I can't deploy reports on Visual Studio2005 anymore. I say "anymore", because a few months ago, this went well.
After building correctly, VS Studio asks for a Login for Reporting Services via a popup window. I don't know what to enter...
In IIS ( version 5.1) , I configured Reports and ReportServer for integrated Windows Authentication.
In Reporting Services Configuration, I have the Windows Security set on Windows Account, with a username and password that I also use (withoud success) to deploy the reports from Visual Studio. Since the user is a domain user, I tried as login also the complete domain name : domainusername. Nothing helps, the popup "Login for Reporting Servies" appears again and again.
If I change the settings in IIS to allow for anonymous access ( machinenameIUSR_machinename), I get the error message that the permissions granted to that user are insufficient.
I also changed the Windows Service Identity into "Local System" and "Local Service"; with the same result.
In the Log file of Reporting Services, I also find following phrase :
"ReportingServicesService!resourceutilities...INFO: Evaluation copy:0 days left"
I don't know of there is a link between this and my problems
Can anyone help me in this ?

So I get the basics, have a script that can deploy a single report to a single server. I have other simple scripts that work as well. Now I want a script that can deploy a single report to multiple Sharepoint servers. I have about 30. I know we are probably doing this wrong, as in, we shouldn't be deploying the same report to 30 sites, as they are all all technically all on the same server however they are all independent site collections so as far as I know there is no way to deploy them to a central location and then link to them from each site.
So I tried to copy elements of my single report deploy script and duplicate the Sub Main() to Sub Main1() and Sub Main2() with multiple "ParentPath1" dims, yes I know I'm stupid. That obviously didn't work. So looking at some other scripts including my own subscription updater and I'm sure I need to do some kind of "For Each item in X" but where to start. The other lists I've seen all come from rs.Something. My list is just 30 variables in the script, how can I say for each site in this list, Publish this report?
Here's the simple script that works fine. I just don't know how to modify it to make it deploy this to multiple sites. After I figure that out, I was going to accept the challenge of deploying multiple reports to multiple sites in a single script...
Dim warnings As Warning() = Nothing
Dim parentFolder As String = "Reports"
Dim filePath As String = "filepath"
Dim reportName As String = "Report file name"
Dim parentPath As String = "Sharepoint site URL"
Public Sub Main()
[Code] ....

Is it possible to run a report with some multiple parameters values and output it to a single file file? For example if you have a parameter list (1,2,3) and you want to run the report for parameters (1,2). Our users generate the list of parameters and rather run the report for each one, they would like to have reporting services run it for the whole set and just output 1 file. I have searched everywhere and can't find anything that works. Someone suggested sub reports but based on what I saw, it didn't look very useful. I can go into more detail if neccessary, this has been bugging me for a while now.
Thanks

I have one report "Incident Summary" which has a Report Parameter called DimPoolPool using ParameterValue for Value Field and ParameterCaptionIndented for Label field. The default value is [Dim Pool].[Pool].[All]
From another chart report I want to be able to click on a column to make open the Incident Summary report parameterized by "Pool". So I got to properties of the chart > Data > Values > Edit > Action > Jump to report > Parameter, and here I enter DimPoolPool = Fields!Pool.Value.
It seems to me that this should be picking up [Dim Pool].[Pool].&[poolname] and entering that into the parameters of Incident Summary report. However instead the Incident Summary opens with blank parameter waiting for user to enter.
How do you format parameters correctly between reports?

I need the ability to choose between quite a few cascading olap time query parameters for a report without my creating a report or subreport for every combination of these parameters. If the recordset were smaller perhaps I could filter it when it's passed back to the report but it's a few million. Will switching to expression-based command text and building the mdx queries in code work? I would like to be able to tell rs to remove the parameter from the query if no selections are made.

I have seem many messages about this, mostly over a year old, with no satisfying answer.
I have a set or reports that jump between each other, passing parameters, that work fine in VS 2005. (They are mostly based on sql server 2005 stored procedures).
When the reports are deployed, the one that jumps without a parameter works. The ones that pass parameters do not even 'activate'- that is, the text box to be clicked does not allow the user to click.
If I go to the report directly through the browser, it lists the missing parameters and the report does not render.
I am using IE7. All SP on IE and SQL are current.
Microsoft- will you be making this feature work anytime soon?
Thanks

Hi,
I am working on SSRS. I need to open a new report from one report when user clicks on some
particular summarized count link.
It is a sort of drilled down report. I am not getting how to pass the respective Ids (more
than one) to the next report when user clicks on the summarized link in the 1st report.
These ids I want to use as a parameter (multiple) in the 2nd report to dump the rows from

Parameters!xx.value to pass the value from Report A to Report B. The multi valued parameter has values 1,2,3,4 in both the reports.
I have a scenario where I need to pass a value of 5 to the report B. When I try to hard code the value I run into error while going to the second reeport saying parameter not declared.
Can any one help me with this. Its very urgent.

I am trying to build a report that allows a user to enter partial text that filters the values in a drop down
For examle;
Lets say I am selecting a value from a drop down for States and I want to type in FL to filter the collection down so that only Florida appears in the select list.
I know the above example wont work since I cannot actaully enter text into a drop down, however
I have also tried to seperate this functionality by creating one report parameter for entering the search text and another parameter that will display a filtered data set using the text entered in the first parameter.
Is this something that reporting services can handle ? If it is please provide a brief example.
Thanks
