Cannot Import/link Data From DBase With SQL Server DTS Nor Access Anymore..
Jul 20, 2005
Hi,
SQL Server 2000 SP3
Windos 2000 Server SP4
I have a DTS package that imports data from a dBase IV databse with
files located in two folders (dBF1 and dBF2). I use a transform data
task to transform the data.
They were running properly, but last week we installed W2K SP4, and
now the transform task for files from dBF2 are not working properly.
I have two tranform tasks to extract data from files in dBF2 folder.
If I double click to open the transform data task of either of them,
Enterprise Manager crashes with the errror
mmc.exe applicatio Error
The instruction "xxxx" referenced memory at "xxx". The memory could
not be read.
Althoug the transform task for one of the files will run, the other
will not run giving the message
Error Source: DTS package
Catastrophic failure
Also, I have an Access database that has links to the same dBase
files. For files from dBF2 folder, I'm able to see the data from one
of the files, but if I double click to see the data from the other,
access crashes with no specific error message. Nothing has changed on
dBase related files (permission wise).
The transform tasks to extract data from the other dBase folder (dBF1)
files are working fine, and data is accesible from Access.
I'm pulling data from XML into tables, but I'm unsure how to link the data after it's imported. This example has names and tasks, and I can pull the data into two tables, but I can't find any way to link the task to the appropriate person. My person and task tables populate without issue, but there's nothing I can find to link the rows together. So in this example Test 1 would go to the first two Tasks and Test 2 would go to the second two work items.
I am attempting to import data from Microsoft Access databases to SQL Server 2000 using the DTS Import/Export Wizard. I have a few errors.
Error at Destination for Row number 1. Errors encountered so far in this task: 1. Insert error column 152 ('ViewMentalTime', DBTYPE_DBTIMESTAMP), status 6: Data overflow. Insert error column 150 ('VRptTime', DBTYPE_DBTIMESTAMP), status 6: Data overflow. Insert error column 147 ('ViewAppTime', DBTYPE_DBTIMESTAMP), status 6: Data overflow. Insert error column 144 ('VPreTime', DBTYPE_DBTIMESTAMP), status 6: Data overflow. Insert error column 15 ('Time', DBTYPE_DBTIMESTAMP), status 6: Data overflow. Invalid character value for cast specification. Invalid character value for cast specification. Invalid character value for cast specification. Invalid character value for cast specification. Could you please look into this and guide me Thanks in advance venkatesh imtesh@gmail.com
I have one column in SQL Server 2005 of data type VARCHAR(4000).
I have imported sql Server 2005 database data into one mdb file. After importing a data into the mdb file, above column data type converted into the memo type in the Access database.
now when I am trying to import a data from this MS Access File(db1.mdb) into the another SQL Server 2005 database, got the error of Unicode Converting a memo data type conversion in Export/Import data wizard.
Could you please let me know what is the reason?
I know that memo data type does not supported into the SQl Server 2005.
I am with SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with SP2.
Please help me to understans this issue correctly?
I have created some DB tables on SQL Server. Now I want to import some data from Access using Data Transformation Services.
The APPLICATION table I have created has the following columns:
AppID, AppName, AppMnem, GripsID, Decommissioned, Last Modified, Modified By
AppID is the primary key and is an identity column with an autoincrement on insert.
The query I used to import the data from Access is:
select `T>Application>General`.`Application Name`, `T>Application>General`.`Application Mnem`, `T>Application>General`.`GripsID`, `T>Application>General`.`Decommissioned`, `T>Application>General`.`Last Modified`, `T>Application>General`.`Modified By` from `T>Application>General` where `T>Application>General`.`Application Mnem`='TMS' order by `T>Application>General`.`Application Mnem`
The transformation I used is:
'************************************************* ********************* ' Visual Basic Transformation Script ' Copy each source column to the ' destination column '************************************************* ***********************
Function Main() DTSDestination("AppName") = DTSSource("Application Name") DTSDestination("AppMnem") = DTSSource("Application Mnem") DTSDestination("GripsID") = DTSSource("GripsID") DTSDestination("Decommissioned") = DTSSource("Decommissioned") DTSDestination("Last Modified") = DTSSource("Last Modified") DTSDestination("Modified By") = DTSSource("Modified By") Main = DTSTransformStat_OK End Function
However, I keep gettting the following error:
Error at destination for row number 1. Errors encountered so far in this task: 1. Instert error, column 1 ('AppID', DBTYPE_I4), status 10: Integrity violation; attempt to insert null data or data which violates constraints. Unspecified Error
I have been looking for a way to import data from sql server 2005 or access into sql compact edition.
The short end of the story is that our product supports 3 databases, sql server, mysql, and access(for standalone deployments)
if we can use sql compact instead of access i believe it woudl simplify our support and maintenance, however i am struggling to find a way to get our existing data into compact.
This product is not a mobile application, and the .sdf files will be deployed to desktops, the only way ive seen to convert data so far is to use activesync over a mobile device.
is there any other way to get our existing sql server or access databases into compact?
I have a customer using a web app where the data is drawn from a database in SQL Server 2005.
In addition to its normal tables, the database has two lookup tables which are deleted, recreated, and repopulated once a week. The data for these two tables comes from two queries in an Access database which essentially turn many related tables into two flat tables.
I know this can be done with SSIS, I've done it, I suppose it could be done witth SSMA for Access, but could this operation be done with a stored prodecure ? Most steps would not be a problems. They would be:
- Drop the two tables in SQL Server (no problem) - Recreate them (no problem, maybe better to just delete all existing records, either way)
- Connect to the query in the Access database (here is where I have questions) - Simply do an INSERT from the Access query to the SQL table.
So my question is whether we can connect to an Acess query from a stored proc, I suppose using ODBC.
Can this be done? If so how? Are there any papers on this topic?
I have a database in ACCESS and i want everytime that there is a change made in Access the cude in SQL server to be automatically updated .Is there a way that this can be done with Integration Services?
I'm unsure what happened, but I'm using SQL Server 05 Developer Edition. I've been working with a local database where I tried to add a clustered index on a huge table (about 50M records). Well, I had to stop the query since it was maxing out my work computer. Since then, I've been unable to open the database or run queries against it.
When I open SQL Server Management Studio the database says In Recovery. Once it's done, when I try to expand tables, I eventually get this error:
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio ------------------------------ Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum) For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&LinkId=20476 ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Lock request time out period exceeded. If I run a Select * from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES query, it will go on for a while
If I try to access the properties of the Database (right clicking), I get this error:
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio ------------------------------ Cannot show requested dialog. ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Cannot show requested dialog. (SqlMgmt) ------------------------------ An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. and was successful at importing ".dbf" files from a dBase 7.0 folder.
However, this import was quite slow: approx. 2000 rows per second. Some of the tables I must import have over 8,000,000 rows, which would then take 4,000 seconds, or over one hour. This import rate seems unaffected by whether or not I put a "Copy Column" Data Flow Transformation task between the "OLE DB Source" and "OLE DB Destination" objects.
In SQL Server 2000 it was much faster to import such large tables. The 8 million row table takes only 14 minutes (800 seconds) with SQL Server 2000 -- giving a transfer rate approx. 5 times as fast.
Is there any way to speed up this process in SQL Server 2005? (In SQL Server 2000 there was a "Use fast load" option on the "Options" tab of the "Transform Data Task Properties." I have not yet found any similar option for SQL Server 2005.)
My receiving database is using the "Simple" model, so there is no need to create transaction entries for loading these large tables. There are also no indexes on these tables: the data are being loaded into new tables created in SSIS.
I want to import the data from specific Access Database and Table to SQL Server, using SQL Script. I am trying to implement the solution as given in this link. URL....Here is the code that I have tried -
sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1; GO RECONFIGURE; GO sp_configure 'Ad Hoc Distributed Queries', 1; GO
[code]...
The access database file path is - 'C:SQL ProjectTestDB1001.mdb'.The Table from which I want to import the data is - [Table1001]. but when I run this script, I get this error -9 The OLE DB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" for linked server "MSAccessConnect" reported an error. Authentication failed.
Secondly I need to make 2 more changes to the code posted above.
1.If some access database .mdb, has got password protection, then how to include the password in the script, so that one does not have to manually feed in the password during data import work.
2. How to limit the data that is to be imported from the table [Table1001] by including a WHERE Clause, like for example - SELECT * FROM [Table1001] WHERE xdate = '2015-9-16 00:00:00.000')
When trying to link to an SQL table in Access 2003, the software appears to be malfunctioning.
The sequence of events is File - Get External Data - Link Tables - Files of Type: ODBC Databases().
The Problem: On two of my computers, the select data source window does not pop up, preventing me from linking to any ODBC data source.
Observations: This function has worked normally in the recent past and works on other computers running Access 2003. One difference between the computers working and non-working computers is Norton Antivirus 2006 (recent upgrade).
Has anyone experienced anything like this? What's going on?
I need help in generating a stored proc script (SQL Server 7.0)that will:
document the changes of each field in a dbase (SQL Server 7.0) appending the deltas (changes) to the dbase on a different, say production server for each affected field prompt the user (dba, developer, super user) for the fields to involve in the comparing and documenting of changes (deltas).
thanks in advance for your help!
ALSO: Does SQL Server 2000 handle this situation better than SQL Server 7.0
I saw this post by dterrie in the Wishlist thread and I just wanted to second it:
"How about bringing back a simple dBase import. The SSIS guys are clearly FAR out of touch with reality if they think people who handle data no longer need to work with dbf files. I've seen alot of dumb stuff in my day, bit this is just sheer brilliance. I just love the advice of first importing into Access and then importing the Access table. Gee, why didn't I think of such a convenient solution. I could have had a V-8."
I've been struggling with this the last couple days and finally decided to import the dBase III file into Access and then import that into SQL Server 2005. Imagine my surprise when I discovered this was the current recommended method.
That's just ridiculous. Can someone tell me why they would reduce some of the functionality of SQL Server from 2000 to 2005? This was a very easy process in SQL Server 2000...
I have around 600 worksheets that i need to import into sql server that are in a somewhat non-table like format. Data defractor seems to be able to do what i need, but i also need to check into doing it manually. I've seen the code to import cells and ranges into sql server, but can't seem to remember what it is anymore. I've also searched through the forums and can't seem to find any examples either. Could anyone post an example or a link with some examples or explaination code. Thanks in advance.
SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', 'Data Source=D:Account;Extended Properties=DBASE III;', TRANS.DBF)
and I got the following message :
OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "(null)" returned message "Could not find installable ISAM.". Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "(null)".
I am trying to simplify a query given to me by one of my collegues written using the query designer of Access. Looking at the query there seem to be some syntax differences, so to see if this was the case I thought I would import the database to my SQL Server Developer edition.
I tried to start the wizard from within SQL Server Management Studio Express as shown in one of the articles on MSDN which did not work, but the manual method also suggested did work.
Trouble is that it gets most of the way through the import until it spews forth the following error messages:
- Prepare for Execute (Error) Messages Error 0xc0202009: {332B4EB1-AF51-4FFF-A3C9-3AEE594FCB11}: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft JET Database Engine" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Could not start session. Too many sessions already active.". (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
Error 0xc020801c: Data Flow Task: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "SourceConnectionOLEDB" failed with error code 0xC0202009. (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
Error 0xc004701a: Data Flow Task: component "Source 33 - ATable" (2065) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC020801C. (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard).
There does not seem to be any method of specifying a number of sessions, so I don't see how to get round the problem.
Does anyone know how I can get the import to work?
I have a MS SQL database that I use MS ACESS to add data to and also to query.
My question is how can I setup the MS Access database so that it will not allow duplicate entries to be added to the MS SQL database? I know How I could do it using php via a webpage but I need to be able to do this using the MS Access program directly since thats what we use to add and search the dbase with.
I created several SSIS packages on a 32-bit system, using odbc to to access the dbase source file. Finally, after setting up a proxy, etc., we got the package to run and import data. We then needed to move the packages to a 64-bit system. So, we built our manifests, and installed all of our packages. We are using several dtsConfig files for our packages, and in there we specify the DSN that we will be accessing. I understand that MS does not support odbc drivers in a 64-bit world (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=85703&SiteID=1). Has anyone been faced with this issue? How did you get past it? I accessed the 32-bit odbc drivers on the 64-bit system, and i setup a dsn that points to the dbase file, but when i run the job, the log file has an error that the dsn was not found. However, when I run the package itself, it runs as expected...
hello. I have a windows 2003 server with sql server 2000 and a public IP address and domain name
when i am on the same network as the server I can link to the sql server with just the dowmain name www.omghelp.com but when I take that same access adp file or mdb file home it says "database can not be found " what do i need to get it to work...help please
I have a problem that I want to solve by linking MS Access to SQL Server 2000 or 2005.
The problem is a 3 party MS Access '97 application that is no longer supported so a new system is currently being built in SQL Server. The Access database has a UI for small amounts of input and viewing but most of the work is done through a WaveLink application. The Wavelink application allows users on the shop floor via wireless devices to pick and count product which then updates Access. There has always been record locking issues that caused some delays at the wireless devices but nothing dramatic. Until now. The wireless network and wireless devices have been upgraded and now record locking (I presume that whats causing the problems) is now causing large productivity delays requiring constant intervention. The Wavelink application is also being updated from VB6 to VB.Net to work with the new SQL Server application. One of the requests from the client is that the Wavelink upgrade somehow fix the problem with the Access database.
My idea was to link the Access database to a SQL Server so that the wireless devices go through SQL Server to Access hopefully taking the load off Access. Is this possible? Would SQL Server prevent the record locks and provide a better multi user environment or is that something that is inherent in OLEDB Jet and linking is not going to circumvent this problem?
Hi all,I am fairly new to using triggers and was seeking some help from thosethat have experience with them. I am looking to transfer data from aSQL 2000 database to a Visual FoxPro database on another computer. Iwould like to transfer about three fields of data to a VFP table eachtime an insert is made on the SQL table. I am some what familiar withthe structure of creating the trigger but here is what I would likehelp with: Selecting the SQL data to transfer, Connecting to VFPdatabase, Insert SQL data into VFP table.CREATE TRIGGER [xyz] ON [dbo].[AAA]FOR INSERT??? Select a,b,c from SQL table??? Connect to VFP Database and Table??? Insert into VFP table Values a,b,cAny information, tips, or even an example Trigger procedure would helpand be greatly appreciated.Thank you,Brett
hi, A and B are different asp.net projects. Each has its own sql database, and is linked to each other through socket/TCPListener.how can page B access the data in sql of A through this socket?thanks!
Hi All, I have recently migrated from Access to SQL Server. I have come across a strange problem. I have got a table in my database whihc is not linked to any other table, but does include data and is used from time to time for reports. It is more used as a sort of lookup table. Now I had the frontend in Access and I have retained it. So I connect all the SQL Server tables via ODBC to Access. The problem with this table is for some reason it wont allow to add new records on Access side. You can just view the contents, but cannot add anything to it e.g a new record, etc. I tried giving explicit permissions of Select, Insert, update, etc. but still no result. There are other look up tables as well, that have the same problem. Can anybody tell me why this is so and is there any way to fix it?
I'm trying to find how to link to an Access table from within SQL Server. I know I have seen it once, but can not remember where I saw it. I'm using SQL Server 2005. TIA,
I am getting an error trying to select data from a Linked Server that is connected to a secured MS Access database. I have entered the login and password for an admin in the sytem but I am still getting the error below. It seems that all of the examples shown on the Online help are for unsecured databases. Can anyone help me with this issue?
Thanks
Will

I am trying to get a handle on the new SQL Server Integration Services in SQL Server 2005. There is a legacy DTS package that I need to get working on our new server (using SQL Server 2005) but I can't seem to get it to work.First, I migrated it and attempted to run the package. It gave me many errors. So, I thought I would just rebuild it in integrated services. Everything was going smooth until I got to the real data transformation part.I added a data flow task and it took me to the Data Flow tab. Then I added a DataReader Source. I am trying to read from a dBase III file and I assumed I would be using an ODBC driver for that. Well... it has been hell trying to get it to see the dBase III file and access it.I have tried two solutions from the internet. This one and this one (by Wenyang) with no positive results. No matter what I do I still get an error in the bottom of the Advanced Editor for DataReader Source that reads: "Error at Sales Transformation [DataReader Source [81]]: Cannot acquire a managed connection from the run-time connection manager."Has anyone attempted anything like this before? Are there any SSIS experts around here that can drop me a few pearls of wisdom? Thanks in advance... I'm dying here.
My manager told me to link SQL Server database tables to access so that he can access the tables in MSAccess to do his SQL queries. I am thinking of linking server but I am not sure about that. Is someone can tell me what to do and explain me how. Thanks in advance Sincerely. David
i'm trying to set a data source in Access 2000 to link to SQL Server express..I have mixed mode set..what user/password do I put in? I tried sa, but get error server does not exist, or access denied.. thanks!
I'm not sure if this is the proper place to post this question but thought I would start here.
I have an Access link to live SQL data. We have since migrated to a new physical server and new logical server name.
My question then is, how can I edit the pre-existing Access link to the live SQL data/database and make changes so that the new server is taken into consideration?
I have upsized an Access database into SQL Server and manged to getthe data in place ok. The wizard created an Access Project which Ihave started to modify. However, I am also trying to get data from an AS/400. Specifically fora currency/exchange rate file. I only want ot copy the records sincethe last copy otherwise there are a vast number of records.I have created a linked server to the AS/400 within SQL Server, andcreated a view, within my specific database which allows me to look atall the data in the table. However, my problem is that I want a VB routine, in the AccessProject, which lets me copy out specic records from the view into atable within the SQL Server database. Any clues?????My oroginal code used a link to the AS/400 and the folowing code:-s = "INSERT into zacjdf00 "s = s + "select CJCNCD, CJD5E9, CJCUCD, CJD5FF, CJD5FG, CJD5FH,CJD5FI, CJD5FJ, CJD5FK "s = s + "from XGHLDTM_ZACJDF00 "s = s + "where "s = s + "CJD5E9 = '" & group & "'"DoCmd.RunSQL (s)group is preset in the VB code.
