This morning I got an odd problem, I just added a new package to my dtproj and I cannot add a variable. Am I missing anything. ?

SSIS Package Designer Performance After Installing SP1

When I installed SP1 on my SQL Server 2005, the performance of the package designer dropped enormously. I have to wait like 30 seconds after I drag-and-drop a datasource from the toolbox to the design area. Also it takes a very long time to run the very simple package. Not to mention opening some complicated package that was done before applying SP1. The package scheduled in SQL Agent went from 3-4min to 5-6min.
Can anyone address this issue? Maybe there's something I did wrong?
While installing SP1 I ecountered strange behaviour (some messages about file locking, rebooting and stuff), but in the end it said that it was successful

SSIS Package Designer Error Displaying The Layout
Aug 10, 2007Our Visual Studio installation suddenly starting producing the error below upon trying to open any .dtsx package; although by "suddenly" I'm sure it was due to some Windows update or other program install, update, or uninstall. I've spent two days uninstalling, reinstalling, and repairing everything that is seemingly related to VS, but no luck. I've searched the forums and could not find this specific error mentioned, although I have tried some of the suggestions to fix possibly related 'class not registered' errors, but again no luck.

SSIS Package Designer Lookup Component GUI Error?

If you try to "enable memory restriction" from the Lookup component GUI you need to input both 32 and 64 bit size of maximum memory. However when clicking "OK" on the editor you get a message like :

SSIS Script Task Alters Package Variable, But Variable Does Not Change.
Oct 25, 2006I'm working on an SSIS package that uses a vb.net script to grab some XML from a webservice (I'd explain why I'm not using a web service task here, but I'd just get angry), and I wish to then assign the XML string to a package variable which then gets sent along to a DataFlow Task that contains an XML Source that points at said variable. when I copy the XML string into the variable value in the script, if do a quickwatch on the variable (as in Dts.Variable("MyXML").value) it looks as though the new value has been copied to the variable, but when I step out of that task and look at the package explorer the variable is its original value.
I think the problem is that the dataflow XML source has a lock on the variable and so the script task isn't affecting it. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of problem, or know a workaround?
Executing A SSIS Package With Variable Changes From ASP.NET
Mar 17, 2008I am trying to execute a ssis package, where a user will be able to excute the package from an ASP page, the user will select a file, this will be the source file for the SSIS package, this will change when ever the package is executed, I was thinking of just using a sqlClient.sqlCommand and editing the command text and excuting it that way, or through a SP, would this be the best solution? Is there a better solution? and if not what would be the SQL command to execute the package, along with editing the variable?

The table in new db have extra field that i need to assign it using variable. this is because i have few customer that having different variable value. (meaning for 1 customer, the variable will be fix for all the tables in the database)
my question, without using the Execute Sql Task, can i assign the variable into the the old db destination?
eg my data flow Task is : OLE Db Source - Derived Column - OLE DB Destination.

SSIS Parent/Child Package Variable Passing

I have having trouble getting my hands around how to retrieve variables from a parent package. I read about the Environment variables and Configuration File at the parent package level and the Parent Package variable at the child level.
Here are my questions:
1. Can you only store/retrieve 1 variable in a config file at a time?
2. Does the child package have to define the variables and if so, do they have to be the same names as the parent package?
This seems so more more complex then the DTS2000 way of passing variables to and from packages.
Any help would be appreciated.

Jun 14, 2006While Creating a script task in Control Flow, I am getting "Package Validation Error". Here is the complete message:
Error at Validate File and Load Data: The task is configured to pre-compile the script, but binary code is not found. Please visit the IDE in Script Task Editor by clicking Design Script button to cause binary code to be generated.
(Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.VsIntegration)
As mentioned in the message, I opened the script IDE and added the code I need. When I close the VSA IDE, package designer displays the same error message.
The worst part of whole story is that if I close the package designer and reopen it, I find that all the code I wrote in the script task has been deleted by the package designer. This is not at all acceptable as I saved the package the and still lost all my work. I did all the coding from scratch for that task.
Please respond if anyone faced similar problem.

Passing SSIS Package Variable To Stored Procedure As Parameter

I've created a varible timeStamp that I want to feed into a stored procedure but I'm not having any luck. I'm sure its a simple SSIS 101 problem that I can't see or I may be using the wrong syntax
in Execute SQL Task Editor I have
conn type -- ole db
connection -- some server
sql source type -- direct input
sql statement -- exec testStoredProc @timeStamp = ?
if I put a value direclty into the statement it works just fine: exec testStoredProc '02-25-2008'
This is the syntax I found to execute the procedure, I don't udnerstand few things about it.
1. why when I try to run it it changes it to exec testStoredProc @timeStamp = ? with error: EXEC construct or statement is not supported , followed by erro: no value given for one or more requreid parameters.
2. I tired using SQL commands exec testStoredProc @timeStamp and exec testStoredProc timeStamp but nothing happens. Just an error saying unable to convert varchar to datetime
3. Also from SRS I usually have to point the timeStamp to @timeStamp and I dont know how to do that here I thought it was part of the parameter mapping but I can't figure out what the parameter name and parameter size should be; size defaults to -1.

I have parent package(Master) calling two child packages using execute package task. I have no problem to pass variable values from the parent to child using the parent configuration but not able to get the variable values from the child to parent. I am setting the package status in each child package based on certain conditions and determine the final status in a parent based on child package variable statuses. Does any body have any idea? I am trying to develop a SSIS package which will read the records from the flat file and insert them into a destination table. I have some validations written in script component. I have declared two Read Write variables with package level scope. when i try to assign a value to the variable in the script component and run the package, the package throws me an error "The collection of variables locked for read and write access is not available outside of PostExecute".
What should be done to over come the problem please help me on this regard

I am looking high and low for some assistance with developing a VB .NET solution that I programmatically create a package and add tasks. I am adding a BULK INSERT task to load large FLAT TEXT files into SQL Server 2005 tables. When I execute the application I execute a package validation and it always returns FAILURE. I have been reading and searching like crazy and I have bought 2 microsoft books, TO NO AVAIL! Can anyone PLEASE help me with this. Thank you!

Sep 4, 2015I have a ssis package which identifies duplicate records in access database. I have staged access database into sql sever and created ssis package. Now, I have final list of records which needs to be delete from access database and new records which are to be inserted into access database.
What do I need to do if I want to delete those duplicate records directly from access database using SSIS. I cannot truncate whole access database and reload. I just have to delete duplicate rows from access db and add new records.

using above control flow to map the Source file to Destination . When i run the SSIS Package teh Folwing Error i got
"Truncation Occur maydue to inserting data from data flow column "columnName " with a length of 50 "
regarding this Error i i understood its for happening Data Length . so that i was changed the Source Column Length Exactly Match with the The Destination table.
still i am getting this Error. pls any one give me a solution . SHould i Change the DataType also?

I have installed backward compatimility package and dts designer components on my computer wich run sql server 2005.
When i try to open a DTS package in management studio, It tries to install sql server 2000 and ask for sql2000.msi.
Does any one know how to fix this so i can edit dts packages in management studio 2005?

Apr 6, 2007after installing the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Com feature pack and then restarting my management studio, I still cannot see or edit my dts packages. I also tried editing them in the integration services consule but no luck there. I see them under the msdb and have no option to edit them.
Has anyone got this utility to work?

Dec 13, 2013When I am trying to insert to data from SQL ssis package to SharePoint list people or group column I am getting below error.[SSIS.Pipeline] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_PROCESSINPUTFAILED. The ProcessInput method on component "SharePoint List Destination" (25) failed with error code 0x80131500 while processing input "Component Input" (34). The identified component returned an error from the ProcessInput method. The error is specific to the component, but the error is fatal and will cause the Data Flow task to stop running.

It failed after I right clicked to Schedule Package, and than right clicked on the job to Start Job from Management - SQL Server Agnet - Jobs. When I clicked View Job History, the error was "The job failed. The last step to run was step 1 (DTSPackageName).

DTS 2000 Package Designer And SQL Server 2005
Mar 28, 2007I am not sure where to ask this question. So I figured here may be ok
I have several DTS 2000 packages and I have SQL 2005 installed on my local machine. However the rest of the company is still using SQL 2000 (for now). So I do not want to convert them to ssis yet. One of the things we just did to the packages is make all flat files use \localhost and any servers point to (local). Now in ssis this works fine but using the DTS 2000 package designer it does not like either of these at all. The reason we wanted to do this is so when we switch out servers there is no changes to our DTS packages.
Programmatically Changing Connections In DTS Package Causes Issue In DTS Designer
Aug 15, 2002I have an ActiveX task containing vbscript that when placed in a DTS package, will set all Connection and DataTransformation (DataPump) information correctly. Additionally, the package appears to work perfectly afterwards.
The Question:
Why when I go into the DTS Designer and open a transformation (Black Arrow) between connections - that I get the "Verifying Transformations" dialog with the three radio button options of "Remove Invalid transforamtions", "Change Source/Destination", and "Remove all transformations and redo auto-mapping"?
It appears that the SourceObjectName and SourceSQLStatements are getting correctly updated as well as the DestinationObjectName, etc.
Is there a property that is supposed to be set when I modify the source and destination properties in my code to prevent this dialog?

Logging Difference Between Designer And SQL Agent Package Executions
Dec 12, 2006After fine-tuning my package logging, I built a query against SYSDTSLOG9 that uses the combination of the OnPreExecute events and any subsequent event for each task to build a nice view of a package in progress, including the duration of each event. (Running tasks would have a row with a NULL EndTime.)
When running the package within the Designer, everything works as expected. Events are logged at the task level and everything bubbles-up to the package level.
However, when I run the package from SQL Agent (using the SSIS job step), none of my OnPreExecute or sub-component events are written. That is, I only get package-level OnInformation, OnPostExecute and OnError events.
This means when the job/package is executing, I can't directly see which steps are currently in progress nor can I get a duration for each step once it's completed. This will be very disconcerting for my teammates who will have to help support this at some point.
Any idea how or why there would be a change in behavior between these two execution methods?

Job Running SSIS Package Keeps Failing But The SSIS Package By Itself Runs Perfectly Fine
Aug 30, 2006Hey, I've a few jobs which call SSIS packages. If I run the SSIS package, it runs fine but if I try to run the job which calls this package, it fails. Can someone help me troubleshoot this issue? None of my jobs that call an SSIS package work. All of them fail.
