Hi,
I'm trying to deploy Reporting Services on an Internet-facing web server using a custom security extension (forms authentication). We will be putting Report Manager on the Web Server outside of the firewall, and Report Server on another machine inside the firewall. When testing the solution in a development environment with Report Manager and Report Server on the same box, the solution works fine.
When testing it using the Internet-facing environment described above, it almost works but there seems to be an issue with the authentication cookie that is generated. Here's what happens:
1. User enters credentials on UILogon.aspx and submits form.
2. In the code-behind, LogonUser() is called through a web service proxy and the authentication cookie is returned successfully. The code used here to set the cookie is the same code used in the Forms Authentication sample that ships with RS2005.
3. The user is redirected to Folder.aspx, and the request hangs for a while, and eventually kicks you back out to UILogon.aspx, as if it lost the authentication cookie. When doing a trace on the HTTP header, the cookie is still there.
Is there anything special I need to do to make the Report Server "see" the cookie when I have Report Manager and Report Server on different machines?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Mike

I'm using Windows XP Home, Apache 2.2 as web server, and PHP 5.2.5.
I have php installed in c:php. I have the extensions directory set to c:phpext.
Enabling a different extension, like php_zip works.
If I leave the entry in php.ini for php_sqlsrv.dll, then I get a message that is can't be loaded.
If I try to run php at the command line using php -v, then it pops up a dialg box:
Title: php.exe - unable tolocate component
Message: The application has failed to start because php5.dll was not found.
Then another pop up dialog saying that php_sqlsrv.dll could not be loaded.
If I turn on PHP error messages to be displayed in the browser, and stop and restart Apache then I see:
PHP startup: unable to load dynamic link library ./php_sqlsrv.dll - the specified module could not be loaded.
Here's the line in my Apache config file:
LoadModule php5_module c:/php/php5apache2_2.dll
There is no plain php5.dll in the c:php directory.
Perhaps this extension ONLY works with IIS as the web server?
Happens also on XP Pro wih IIS.

Hi all: I am getting the following error when I try to review the deployed reports on localhost.
"An error has occurred during report processing.
An attempt has been made to use a data extension 'OLEDB' that is not registered for this report server."
I checked the report manager, and for "connection type", there is a warning message as shown below:
"The data processing extension used for this report is not available. It has either been uninstalled, or it is not configured correctly."
I will appreciate any help in this regard.
Thanks

I have written CDE to retrieve and process data before generating the report. It works very well inside VS.Net. However, when deployed to the report server I get the following error
An error has occurred during report processing. Cannot create a connection to data source 'CallsTaken'. Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.
I have added appropriate CAS entry in rssrvpolicy.config file as following
<CodeGroup
class="UnionCodeGroup"
version="1"
Name="CustomDataExtensionCodeGroup"
Description="Code group for the Custom Data Extension"
PermissionSetName="FullTrust">
<IMembershipCondition
class="UrlMembershipCondition"
version="1"
Url="C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2Reporting ServicesReportServerinCSS.CustomDataExtension.dll"/>
</CodeGroup>
I have added appropriate entry into rsreportserver.config for data extension as
<Extension Name="Dataset Extension" Type="CSS.RS.Extensibility.CustomDataExtension.DsConnectionWrapper, CSS.CustomDataExtension"/>
Even then I continue to get this error. Any help? Is there anything else I am missing? I am using VS .Net 2005, SRSS 2005 on W23 machine.
I have been stuck here for a while now. Help is appreciated.
Thanks

I am attempting to deploy a sample report (SQL 2005 Workgroup w/SP2) and I am receiving the subject error message when I attempt to view the report on the web server. We are using SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition connecting to an Oracle database.
Is this a limitiation of this version? In report designer, I am able to select Oracle as a connection type. If I try to create a data source at the server, "Microsoft SQL Server" is the only option available. If I look at the ReportServer config file, I see many other data connection types available. Did I miss a step, or is this a Workgroup Edition limitation (it's not documented as a limitation that I am able to find)?
Thanks in advance...

Hi , all Microsoft BI experts here,
Thanks for your kind attention.
I am having a question as stated in the subject title, yes, when we want to deploy scorecards to reporting services, as the prerequisite, how can we install and register the scorecard custom data processing extension with the Microsoft reporting services server?
I am looking forward to hearing from you shortly and thank you again.
With best regards,
Yours sincerely,

I am using an OLEDB data source connecting to an Access database. Using SQL Server 2005 SP2 Workgroup Edition.
I can build the report fine and view it in Visual Studio. When I deploy the report and try to run it on the Report Manager site I get this error
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
An attempt has been made to use a data extension 'OLEDB' that is not registered for this report server. (rsDataExtensionNotFound).
When I go to the Shared Data Source, this message appears beside the Connection type field
The data processing extension used for this report is not available. It has either been uninstalled, or it is not configured correctly.
What am I doing wrong??

I have created a custom data extension.
I am using this custom data extension from BI Studio.
Que1: I want to create report parameters from BI studio and capture them in my Data Extension.
Que2: Every report parameter has so many properties, like hidden, internal, default value etc, how do capture that information in my data extension, the parameters only give me name and value.
Que3: I know I can capture command Text. So My command can be Select * From tablename where fieldname= @myFieldname. Once I get this commandText in my data extension, How do extract parameters of the command?
Que4: If I have any custom attributes in my RDL file, Can I capture them in my Data Extension ?
Any help is appreciated...

Hey, I was just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction on an issue. I've got the authentication portion of a custom security extension working properly (while authorization is just sort of giving everyone a pass) and all of my Googling efforts seem to be bearing little fruit. Now that authentication is in place, whenever I try to deploy a report from Visual Studio, it comes up with an error.
The error is that it is getting the authentication html login page set in web.config (as I expected), while it was looking for an xml page. I'm a bit new to this side of things so I'm not really even sure where I should be looking to see what kind of xml page it wants and such.
I don't need anyone to bother explaining the entire thing to me as I should be able to figure it out once I can get a start, but as I said I just need a kick in the right direction because my Google-fu has failed

I have some date criterias on my report that default and so I would like for the report not to display until the user clicks on the "view report" button.
Also, I would like to trap that button to send my own internal parameters to the report. How and where would I do that.
I'm running the report through report viewer and I have a subroutine that would refresh the report with my desired internal parameters. I just need to hook it up.
Thanks for any help or information.

I have a Visual Studio 2005 web application Front End.
The front end is basically only used as a series of links to SQL Reports.
It seems that when you first click the links to access the reports, there is a slow response time to first load the report viewer. Then after a while of accessing the page, I suppose some of the components are cached so the page loads faster.
Is there a way to automatically cache the pages or any other way to decrease response time on the report viewers?
Edit: To clarify, it first takes around 10-15 seconds to load the .aspx that contains the report viewer. Then it takes around 5-10 seconds to load the report viewer and the report. Is there any way to minimize these times? It seems to speed up the more the page is accessed, but is there a sure-fire way?

My code seems to work and the report is found and everything is honkey-dorey until I try to actually load the report.. lemme show: (please excuse the bit of a mess since this is just a test form)
rs = new rs2005.ReportingService2005();
rsExec = new rsExecService.ReportExecutionService();
// Prepare Render arguments
string historyID = null;
string deviceInfo = null;
string format = "PDF";
Byte[] results;
string encoding = String.Empty;
string mimeType = String.Empty;
string extension = String.Empty;
rsExecService.Warning[] warnings = null;
string[] streamIDs = null;
// Define variables needed for GetParameters() method
string _historyID = null;
bool _forRendering = false;
rs2005.ParameterValue[] _values = null;
// Authenticate to the Web service using Windows credentials
rs.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
rsExec.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
rs2005.DataSourceCredentials[] _credentials = null;
rs2005.ReportParameter[] _parameters = null;
FindReport();
//Create a variable containing the selected item
selItem = MyCatalogItem.Item;
try
{
// Get if any parameters needed.
_parameters = rs.GetReportParameters(selItem.Path , _historyID, _forRendering, _values, _credentials );
// Load the selected report.
rsExecService.ExecutionInfo ei = rsExec.LoadReport(selItem.Path, historyID);
// Prepare report parameter.
// Set the parameters for the report needed.
rsExecService.ParameterValue[] parameters = new rsExecService.ParameterValue[5];
// Place to include the parameter..
if (_parameters.Length > 0)
{
parameters[0] = new rsExecService.ParameterValue();
parameters[0].Value = pQuoteID.ToString();
parameters[0].Label = "Quote ID";
parameters[0].Name = "cor_Quote_id";
parameters[1] = new rsExecService.ParameterValue();
parameters[1].Value = DateTime.Now.ToString();
parameters[1].Label = "Quote Start Period";
parameters[1].Name = "QuoteStartPeriod";
parameters[2] = new rsExecService.ParameterValue();
parameters[2].Value = DateTime.Now.ToString();
parameters[2].Label = "Quote End Period";
parameters[2].Name = "QuoteEndPeriod";
parameters[3] = new rsExecService.ParameterValue();
parameters[3].Value = "Client";
parameters[3].Label = "Client";
parameters[3].Name = "ClientName";
parameters[4] = new rsExecService.ParameterValue();
parameters[4].Value = "Ralph Contact";
parameters[4].Label = "Ralph Contact";
parameters[4].Name = "RaljacContact";
}
rsExec.SetExecutionParameters(parameters, "en-us");
results = rsExec.Render(format, deviceInfo, out mimeType, out encoding, out warnings, out streamIDs);
// Create a file stream and write the report to it
using (FileStream stream = File.OpenWrite(fileName))
{
stream.Write(results, 0, results.Length);
}
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
MessageBox.Show(ex.Message);
}
}
Right, It bombs out at the section I marked in blue and gives me this HUGE message :
"System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Server did not recognize the value of HTTP Header SOAPAction: http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2005/01/12/reporting/reportingservices/LoadReport. at System.Web.Services.Protocols.Soap11ServerProtocolHelper.RouteRequest() at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapServerProtocol.RouteRequest(SoapServerMessage message) at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapServerProtocol.Initialize() at System.Web.Services.Protocols.ServerProtocolFactory.Create(Type type, HttpContext context, HttpRequest request, HttpResponse response, Boolean& abortProcessing)"
Could this be related to credentials or something? Any advice welcome.
Thanks Mates

Hi,
We need to generate a report using SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services which can have 1 million plus records. So we have created a report with a simple select query. This query when run against our database returned 1110018 records.
We deployed the report onto our server and tried accessing the report through its URL. What we observed was that the report ran for about 15 minutes and then it prompted for user id and password (Windows authentication). On giving the user ID and password it continued running for another 15 minutes and at the end of it, the browser again prompted for user id and password. This cycle continued twice and at the end of it we got the message €śThe page cannot be displayed€? (i.e. the usual message displayed by the browser when it cannot load a web page). We were not able to load the report at all.
Are there any specific considerations when loading reports with such high no. of records. Any suggestion, solutions are welcome.
Thanks,
CodeKracker.

All,
Can anyone shed some light on this problem:
Using the same laptop and credentials I can successfully load Report Builder ONLY from the LAN-side of the firewall. However, if I reconnect using my Sprint AirCard I cannot load Report Builder; I get the now infamous "The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized."
What ports are used by Reporting Service?
Thanks,
Brian

Hi all,
I have a report running with both a db and Analysis services data source..When I change any of the multi-valued parameters a post-back is done and then the page is re-loaded all good. However. When I change one of the single value parameters a post-back occurs however the page said "Report parameter values must be specified before the report can be displayed. Choose parameter values in the parameters area and click the Apply button." If I THEN press APPLY the report loads perfectly with the selected option.
I have un-hidden ALL my parameters and they all seem to get values.. Does anyone have any clue what could be going wrong ?
Thanks.

My goal is to have a file (it comes from another system) that I want to import via an OPENROWSET style query.
The query would look like this:
select [NoName] from openrowset('MSDASQL'
,'Driver={Microsoft Access Text Driver (*.txt, *.csv)};
DefaultDir=c:filedir'
,'select * from "file.lst"')
If I make the file a .csv it works fine. However, if it has a not CSV or TXT extension it throws the following error and cannot seem to find a solution to it.
OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "(null)" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Text Driver] Cannot update. Database or object is read-only.". Msg 7350, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Cannot get the column information from OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "(null)".
In addition, (although I can probably find this elsewhere), I need to have the first line 'BLANK' so that it does not miss data (there is no header row). Is there a way to use OPENROWSET without BULK to basically include all rows as data?

I am working through this example:
http://www.devx.com/dbzone/Article/31336/0/page/5
I have following all the steps but I am getting this error:
---------------------------
Microsoft Visual Studio
---------------------------
The designer extension DATASET could not be loaded. Check the configuration file RSReportDesigner.config.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
I have doubled checked the edits I made to that config file. Rebooted, relaunched, etc. No matter what, I cannot get past that error message.
I am using a Win XP machine with SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP2. Just curious, but does express version support CDEs?
Thanks,
Dan

I'm having a heck of a time trying to access a SQL server database using Saxon's SQL extensions with the Microsoft SQL server JDBC driver. The Saxon XSL processor has implemented some SQL extensions that allow you to access a SQL database through a JDBC driver. I have Visual Studio 2005 professional with SQL server express installed on my workstation. The SQL server express installation is installed at the default 1433 port on my workstation, it has been setup to accept connections over TCP and has been configured to accept Windows authentication and SQL authentication. In addition, I have downloaded and installed Microsoft's JDBC driver for SQL server.
After installing the JDBC driver I added the JDBC sqljdbc.jar to my Java CLASSPATH. Then I built a simple Saxon XSL that made use of the SQL extensions:
Code Snippet
<xsl:transform version="2.0"
exclude-result-prefixes="java saxon xsd xsi xsl xfn xdt xqe"
extension-element-prefixes="saxon sql"
xmlns:java="http://saxon.sf.net/java-type"
xmlns:saxon="http://saxon.sf.net/"
xmlns:sql="java://net.sf.saxon.sql.SQLElementFactory"
xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"
>
<xsl:output method="text" media-type="text/plain" encoding="utf-8" />
<xsl:preserve-space elements="*" />
<xsl:param name="jdbc.driver" as="xsd:string" select="string('com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver')" />
<xsl:param name="jdbc.database" as="xsd:string" select="string('jdbc:sqlserver://localhost:1433;databaseName=prototype')" />
<xsl:param name="jdbc.user" as="xsd:string" select="string('saxon')" />
<xsl:param name="jdbc.pass" as="xsd:string" select="string('*****')" />
<xsl:template match="/">
<xsl:choose>
<xsl:when test="element-available('sql:connect')">
<xsl:variable name="sql.conn" as="java:java.sql.Connection">
<sql:connect driver="{$jdbc.driver}" database="{$jdbc.database}" user="{$jdbc.user}" password="{$jdbc.pass}">
<xsl:fallback>
<xsl:message terminate="yes">SQL extenstions are not installed</xsl:message>
</xsl:fallback>
</sql:connect>
</xsl:variable>
<xsl:variable name="sql.employees" as="element()*">
<sql:query connection="$sql.conn" table="dbo.Employees" column="*" />
</xsl:variable>
<xsl:sequence select="$sql.employees" />
<sql:close connection="$sql.conn" />
</xsl:when>
<xsl:otherwise>
<xsl:message terminate="yes">sql:connect element is not available</xsl:message>
</xsl:otherwise>
</xsl:choose>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:transform>
When I run the Java version of Saxon it issues a JDBC connection failure:
SXSQ0003: JDBC Connection Failure: The TCP/IP connection to the host has failed.
java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect
Transformation failed: Run-time errors were reported
After some discussion on the Saxon listserv, I hacked a sample in the Microsoft JDBC documentation to see whether a standard Java program could use the JDBC driver and access the database:
Code Snippet
import java.sql.*;
public class connectURL {
public static void main(String[] args) {
// Create a variable for the connection string.
String connectionUrl = "" +
"jdbc:sqlserver://localhost:1443" +
";databaseName=prototype";
// Declare the JDBC objects.
Connection con = null;
Statement stmt = null;
ResultSet rs = null;
try {
// Establish the connection.
Class.forName("com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver");
con = DriverManager.getConnection(connectionUrl, args[0], args[1]);
// Create and execute an SQL statement that returns some data.
String SQL = "SELECT * FROM dbo.Employees";
stmt = con.createStatement();
rs = stmt.executeQuery(SQL);
// Iterate through the data in the result set and display it.
while (rs.next()) {
System.out.println(rs.getString(1) + " " + rs.getString(2) + " " + rs.getString(3) + " " + rs.getString(4));
}
}
// Handle any errors that may have occurred.
catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
finally {
if (rs != null) try { rs.close(); } catch(Exception e) {}
if (stmt != null) try { stmt.close(); } catch(Exception e) {}
if (con != null) try { con.close(); } catch(Exception e) {}
}
}
}
This Java application accesses SQL server express and prints out the list of employees from the dbo.Employees table in the database:
Code Snippet
-- Create the table definition.
CREATE TABLE dbo.Employees
(
empid INT NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
mgrid INT NULL REFERENCES dbo.Employees,
empname VARCHAR(25) NOT NULL,
salary MONEY NOT NULL,
CHECK (empid <> mgrid)
);
GO
-- Insert test data.
INSERT INTO dbo.Employees( empid, mgrid, empname, salary )
VALUES( 1, NULL, N'David' , $10000.00 );
GO
INSERT INTO dbo.Employees( empid, mgrid, empname, salary )
VALUES( 2, 1, N'Eitan', $7000.00 );
GO
INSERT INTO dbo.Employees( empid, mgrid, empname, salary )
VALUES( 3, 1, N'Ina', $7500.00 );
GO
INSERT INTO dbo.Employees( empid, mgrid, empname, salary )
VALUES( 4, 2, N'Seraph', $5000.00 );
GO
INSERT INTO dbo.Employees( empid, mgrid, empname, salary )
VALUES( 5, 2, N'Jiru', $5500.00 );
GO

GO
INSERT INTO dbo.Employees( empid, mgrid, empname, salary )
VALUES( 7, 3, N'Aaron', $5000.00 );
GO
INSERT INTO dbo.Employees( empid, mgrid, empname, salary )
VALUES( 8, 5, N'Lilach', $3500.00 );
GO
INSERT INTO dbo.Employees( empid, mgrid, empname, salary )
VALUES( 9, 7, N'Rita', $3000.00 );
GO
INSERT INTO dbo.Employees( empid, mgrid, empname, salary )
VALUES( 10, 5, N'Sean', $3000.00 );
GO
INSERT INTO dbo.Employees( empid, mgrid, empname, salary )
VALUES( 11, 7, N'Gabriel', $3000.00 );
GO
INSERT INTO dbo.Employees( empid, mgrid, empname, salary )
VALUES( 12, 9, N'Emilia', $2000.00 );
GO
INSERT INTO dbo.Employees( empid, mgrid, empname, salary )
VALUES( 13, 9, N'Michael', $2000.00 );
GO
INSERT INTO dbo.Employees( empid, mgrid, empname, salary )
VALUES( 14, 9, N'Didi', $1500.00 );
GO
-- Create unique index.
CREATE UNIQUE INDEX idxManagerEmployee ON dbo.Employees( mgrid, empid );
GO
Internally, Saxon uses almost the exact same code, e.g., three argument DriverManager.getConnection, but the call fails. Michael Kay, has indicated that this issue isn't related to Saxon since the error message coming from Saxon indicates that Saxon is finding the JDBC driver and issuing the connection request, but the JDBC driver is failing.
Has anyone tried to use Saxon's SQL extensions with Microsoft's JDBC driver? If you have could you indicate how you have things setup to make it work? If anyone from Microsoft's JDBC driver team is listening, would you be will to help recreate this issue or help trying to diagnose the issue?
Thanks, Andy.

I have a bit of trouble getting values into one alias field, my code is below. I am trying to get values into the alias extension, Agent_ID is sometimes null, and so is agent_id2, however sometimes they both have values in them, and then only one of the values is every returned. When in the example below only Agent_ID (11111) is ever returned by I want both of them returned.
Agent_ID Agent_ID2
11111 22222
<code>
SELECT DISTINCT
CASE WHEN [AGENT_ID] is not null then AGENT_ID
when agent_id2 is not null then agent_id2 end as extension
FROM [AA_Helper].[dbo].[tblEmpData]
</code>

Hi,
I'm still quite a beginner with the Report Designer and now I have faced a problem. My goal is to make a reports refresh each time it is loaded. I know that this can be done by using rs:clearsession = true-method but in order this to work, it should be added to each link. There are a lots of links in the reports we are using and therefore it would be more practical to find another way to refresh the report on page load. Is there any way to do this with some kind of code attached to each report? I'm using Visual Studio 2003 and my Reporting services 2000.

Hi,
Here I will describe my problem.
1. We are loading large amount of data from database on background thread which is starting on Application_start event in global.aspx.cs file.The data is later cached for subsquent request to improve the performance.
2. Now when we put the application on web farm garden, it is not able to load the application.
3. We are sending the request the servers through Router kind of application.
4 This application is working fine on single server enviornment.
Please help us.

I just have done the SSIS example in the tutorial document included when install SQL 2005 ENT. I have a problem that whenever I test to run, the service load all data from source with out noticing about the data (I mean it load all the data to the destination), I do it several time and it continue to load all without checking. That mean the data is dublicated when the schedule run???
I think there should be a paramete or something like that to help the engine just load the new data to the destination. Could you help please?
Thank

SQL server 2005 express reporting problem.
error message:
This feature "remote access to report data sources and/or the report server database" is not supported in this edition of reporting service
I got this error message when I try to connect to database hosted in another PC running SQL server 2000.
Is it true that SQlL server Express can only use Local Database Engine to host the database?
