Cannot Pass Params (data Type System.guid) To Subreport?
Feb 19, 2007
Hello experts,
I am trying to create a report including a subreport in VS.2003 Reporting services. The subreport itself runs properly, if I give it a parameter, but when I try to run the main (parent) report, I get the obvious message Subreport could not be shown.
The output windows returns a message:
The value expression used in textbox €˜AccountID€™ returned a data type that is not valid.
The AccountID field is a system.guid. I tried to "cast" it as a text, but I got another error message that the system.guid cannot be explicitly converted.
Does anyone know how to get around this?
Thank you very much.
Ravie.

I get the following message in the vs2005 querybuilder when i do a preview:
***********************************
SQL Execution Error.
Executed SQL statement: SELECT Schoolindex, Variant, VVSchool, [index], indincl, VVRuimtes, School FROM School WHERE (Schoolindex = @PARAM1)
Error Source: SQL Server Compact Edition ADO.NET Data Provider
Error Message: @PARAM1 : Unable to cast object of type 'System.Data.SqlTypes.SqlInt32 to type System.IConvertable'.

The same querypreview works fine without the parameter:
SELECT Schoolindex, Variant, VVSchool, [index], indincl, VVRuimtes, School FROM School WHERE (Schoolindex = 186)
Can anybody tell me why this is?
And tell me a way to get the tableadapter working?

I have created a windows library control that accesses a local sql database
I tried the following strings for connecting
Dim connectionString As String = "Data Source=localhostSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=TimeSheet;Trusted_Connection = true"
Dim connectionString As String = "Data Source=localhostSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=TimeSheet;Integrated Security=SSPI"
I am not running the webpage in a virtual directory but in
C:Inetpubwwwrootusercontrol
and I have a simple index.html that tries to read from an sql db but throws
the error
System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.

etc etc
The action that failed was:
Demand
The type of the first permission that failed was:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission
The Zone of the assembly that failed was:
Trusted
I looked into the .net config utility but it says unrestricted and I tried adding it to the trusted internet zones in ie options security
I think that a windows form connecting to a sql database running in a webpage should be simple
to configure what am I missing?

I created a .net console application within which I connect to a sql server (not local) as follows,
string conn_str = "Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=QuantEquitySql;Data Source=server name";
SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(conn_str);
conn.Open();
.
Everything works fine when I run it from my computer. When I try to run it from a network share I get the following error,

Does anybody know a fix to this problem?

Hi Folks,
I am trying to build a Package that selects a list of Uniqueidentifiers by "Execute SQL-Task" and then loops through the ResultSet of the query using ADO.Net Enumerator to do something with this GUID Value, namely deleting all entrys with this PK in a different DataBase.
The main Problem I am facing is that you can´t select the type "GUID" for a user Variable in "Execute SQL-Task". All the Datatypes are there except for GUID!
This leads to the following error:
Error: 0xC001F009 at Package: The type of the value being assigned to variable "User::ImagicID" differs from the current variable type. Variables may not change type during execution. Variable types are strict, except for variables of type Object.
Is this a bug? Or am I doing something terribly wrong?
Best Regards and thanks in advance for your help

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: The conversion of a char data type to a
datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value.
Notes: all pages that have this error either has a repeater or datagrid which load data when page loading.
At first I thought the problem is with the date, but then I can see
that some other pages that has datagrid ( that has a date field) work

I'm getting this error on a vb.net page the needs to execute two separate stored procedures. The first one, is the main insert, and returns the identity value for the ClientID. The second stored procedure inserts data, but needs to insert the ClientID returned in the first stored procedure. Hi,
I have developed a custom server control for .NET Framework 2.0. The server control has a property named BinaryData of type byte[]. I marked this property to be data bindable. Now, I have varbinary(Max) type of field in my SQL Database and I have used SQLDataSource and bound this varbinary(Max) field with the property BinaryData (byte[]) of my control. It is working fine as long as the data value is not NULL. Now, In my control, I have handled the NULL value so that no Exception is thrown. Still, when I bind this property using the SQLDataSource, I get Error "Unable to cast object of type 'System.DBNull' to type 'System.Byte[]'." I am not sure if I can do anything to stop this erro within my control. If it is not possible from the control, then what is the workaround that I can do in my ASPX page in order to stop this error ?
Thanks a lot in advance.

I have a project that uses GUID's througout and I'm completely stumped.
1) I create a "batch" GUID to batch the records I'm about to process.
2) I call a web service on a remote machine, and reserve the batch records by inserting the batch GUID into a string ---works fine
3)I call another web service that returns the rows that I just reserved as XML objects and insert into a string variable
4)I need to use the "batch"GUID variable which is typed as a string (DT_WSTR) as an added column so in a Data Flow Task I do the following:
a) use the XML string variable as the source of a XML Source Task -- works (now that I'm passing custom objects and not a dataset -- curious as to why I can't consume a dataset but thats a different question)
This is where things get tricky:
I've tried to add the BatchGUID as a derived column, as a datatype of DT_WSTR (unicode string) and convert it to uniqueidentifier in the Data Conversion task --- error, cannot convert unicode to uniqueidentifier (I know I can in C# and SQL Server so why not here).
I've tried to CAST the BatchGUID as a uniqueidentifier and pass that to the datasource -- again conversion error.
I've tried using the type Object and Casting to anything and that doesn't work either.
I've tried to pass the unicode all the way to the SQL Server Destination -- and insert into UniqueIdentifier field... again no go.
All help would be appreciated, at this point I can't see any way of using a UniqueIdentifier as a key field, and maintaining it through the package...
Is this a bug?
Oh and if you want to have some real fun, try returning the type of UniqueIdentifier as an output parameter using a ADO.NET connection.
Thanks!

In my .NET app I have a search user control. The search control allows the user to pick a series of different data elements in order to further refine your display results. Typically I store the values select in a VarChar(5000) field in the DB. One of the items I recently incorporated into the search tool is a userID (GUID) of the person handling the customer. When I go to pass the selected value to the stored proc
objUpdCommand.Parameters.Add("@criteria", SqlDbType.VarChar).Value = strCriteria;
I get: Failed to convert parameter value from a String to a Guid.
Ugh! It's a string, dummy!!! I have even tried:
objUpdCommand.Parameters.Add("@criteria", SqlDbType.VarChar).Value = new Guid(strCriteria).ToString();
and
objUpdCommand.Parameters.Add("@criteria", SqlDbType.VarChar).Value = new Guid(strCriteria).ToString("B");
but to no avail. How can I pass this to the stored proc without regard for it being a GUID in my app?

I am trying to test a stored proc and I can't execute the stored proc when I use a Guid. Has anyboyd had the same problem. I right click in VS 2008 on the Stored proc click Execute and fill in the variables one of them is a Guid and no records are returned.
Here is my guid, I have tried '{0a5c25fa-3aac-4abc-8d07-6d76ab46c9b2}', {0a5c25fa-3aac-4abc-8d07-6d76ab46c9b2} and "0a5c25fa-3aac-4abc-8d07-6d76ab46c9b2" no success. This stored proc might not work but I have had the same issue with other stored procs when I wanted to test them by using execute and using a Guid.
Testing with an int works fine when I try to Select the records by UserID which is a Guid no cigar. I have notice this behavier before is there a way around this problem, thanks newbie

I am trying to create a report with a sub report in Sql Server 2012 using Report Builder Version 3. Â I can run the subreport without any problems. Â I read where using a shared connection can cause this error so both the main report and the subreport use a connection that is embedded in my report. Â
For testing, I created the subreport without a parameter and added it to the main report. Â When I ran it that way, the report worked and sub report displayed the data. Â So I know it can read from the database.It seems to only give me this error when I am trying to tie the two reports together using a parameter. Â

Hi There,
I'm using C# to get a value for a DOUBLE precision variable, called "Length", from a textBox using the following line:
Length = Convert.ToDouble( txtLength.Text )
I'm also using the following lines to prepare my stored procedure call:
arParms[9] = new SqlParameter("@Length", SqlDbType.Decimal, 5);
arParms[9].Value = record.Length;
My stored procedure has the following parameter definition:
@Length decimal(9,3)
My problem is that if someone types a value bigger than 999999 in the textbox he will get for sure the following error:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Error converting data type numeric to decimal.
I don't know how to either make sql or C# to truncate the value or catch the exception to automatically assign 0 to the parameter.
Please Help.

I have a set of reports that run just fine with the default parameters (Country = US). The report returns data within 60 seconds. However, if I change the default parameters, say to Country = UK, the report will run and won't seem to stop. The user will be prompted every few minutes to relogin to the domain (which they are not prompted when they first run the report). On the server, the report is taking up 1 of the four CPU's and is using a huge amount of disk paging.
Here's the kicker. If I go in, change the default parameters to Country = UK and deploy the report, it will run in 60 seconds with the new default parameters. Now I try to run the report by changing the country = US and it locks up when it is executed.
Anybody run into something like this?
Rob
