Per MSDN instructions I downloaded the folliwng: .NET Framework 2.0, SQL Server 2005, SQL Server Compact 3.5, and Visual Basic Expess Edition. When following the tutorial to create a database, I was never able to see the Local Database template. I am taking the programming lessons in VB, and I am up to Creating Your First Datatbase. It is a requirement that SQL Server Compact 3.5 be installed. Which I have done.

I am experiencing the same problem, and I can't get the easy fix to work. I drop and create the DB's in between tests, so it is not related to having an old certificate in the DB, as in the case of Tilfried.
The situation is as follows:
DB1 owned by login1, has a user for login2; this DB is for the initiator
DB2 owned by login2, has a user for login1; this DB hosts the target
Both DB's have TRUSTWORTHY flag set to ON
Error in sys.transmission_queue: 'Error 916, State 3: The server principal "Login1" is not able to access the database "DB2" under the current security context.
Going on a limp, I decide to add a remote service binding in DB1, binding the user for Login2 to the target service, even though BOL explicitly states that this is only required for cross-server communications. This does change the situation - I still get an error, but a new message is sys.transmission_queue: "Dialog security is unavailable for this covnersation because there is no certificate bound to the database principal (Id: 5). Either create a certificate for the principal, or specify ENCRYPTION = OFF when beginning the conversation." I already know that the first option works, but I wanted to get the simple solution running. As for the second option, I doublechecked and the initiating procedure DOES already specify ENCRYPTION = OFF in the BEGIN DIALOG CONVERSATION command. My theory is that the remote service binding somehow forces SB to use encryption, but (a) that is not stated in the error message, and (b) if so, then how to get the messages sent over to the target service without using the binding?
==> EDIT: Just saw that you confirmed this theory in your last reply to Tlifried. So I am indeed back to having to find out how to get this to work without remote service binding - it should be possible, but how???
BTW, SELECT @@VERSION shows that I'm on build 3054, in case it matters.
Between all the errors in BOL and less than helpfull error messages produced by SB, I feel like I'm slowly losing my sanity. Please help!

Hi! I'm new to SQL Server 7 and I hope I could get some help. I'd like to duplicate an empty database and use the duplicate for the transactions. I want the empty database to somehow act like a template so, whenever I want to, I could create a new instance of it. Problem is I don't know if it is possible to do that on SQL server (it's possible in Access). If it is possible, I hope any of you could tell me how. Thanks.

I'm running VS2005 and trying to use the SQL Database installed template (right-click my project in Solution Explorer / Add / New Item / SQL Database template ("An empty SQL database for local data") to create an MDF file per the "AbsoluteBeginner-Lesson08" video available on MSDN. When I click "Add", I get an error stating that "Connections to SQL Server files require SQL Server Express to function properly. Please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=49251". I'm running SQL 2000, SQL 2005 and SQL Express 2005 (all work and can be hit from Management Studio) on 2003 Server. I'm assuming that it's because the Express instance is a named instance, not the default but I can't find any references. Anybody else had this probelm? Thanks.

I am working (or trying to work) in Management Studio. I have one database that I use on my one and only machine. ( I am not using any of the default databases.) I have several queries saved as files, which I open as needed. Every time I open a file I get that VERY ANOYING Connect to Database Engine dialog box. OK, it's no big thing. I don't use Server Authentication so all I have to do is hit enter and I get connected. But why should I even have to hit enter once after I'm already connected?
How can I MAKE IT STOP?

Is there any description on what the Remember Password check box on this dialog box does? As far as I can tell, it doesn't do anything. Every time I open an item from a project, or create a new Query, I get asked for the password, no matter how many times I have given it for the Server before.
It looks so useful, but is frustrating not knowing how to use it.

I am facing a problem in connecting to the local database with server name as (local).
I have installed SQL Server 2005 in my machine. When I try to connect to the SQL server with the server name as SUNILKUMAR I am able to connect but when I try to connect to the same server with the server name as (local) I am not able to connect. SUNILKUMAR is my machine name and SQL server is running locally.

I'm working on a web application where the user needs to be able to create and name new databases that are identical in structure to other existing databases (that is, all tables, stored procedures, functions, indexes, etc.). This is so that they can create a new database for each client and need to be able to do this through the web application. Having hunted around a fair bit, I've established that SMO is capable of doing pretty much everything that I want. The only problem is that everything I do seems to be based on the actual SQL Server and associated databases rather than the ones I have created in the App_Data folder.

Here's my problem. I have 2 tasks defined in my Control Flow tab:
EXECUTE SQL--------->EXECUTE DTS 2000 PACKAGE
When I attempt to run it, by right-clicking the EXECUTE SQL task, and selecting "Execute Task", it only runs the EXECUTE SQL part (successfully), and does not "kick off" the EXECUTE DTS 2000 PACKAGE, after it is done running (even though it completes successfully, as shown by the green box).
Yes, they are connected by a dark green arrow, as indicated in my diagram above.
Why is this?? Am I missing something here? Need help.

I have a problem. Every time I select the first Item of a dropdownlist, it prevents the Insert to the database. There are 8 droplists on the page but the insert is only effected by the First Item of lstTheme selcetion.

Being a very novice SQL Server administrator, I need to ask the experts a question.
How do I go about moving a database from 1 drive to another? The source drive (C is local to the server, but the target drive (E is on a Storage Area Network (SAN), although it is still a local drive for the server. I want to move the database from C: to E:. Can someone provide me with instructions?

I'm trying to create a CLR stored procedure and went ahead and created a Database Project. But when I click on New Item... it doesn't contain "Stored Procedure" as an item, just script items. How do I add this template? At first I was thinking well maybe it knows my SQL Server doesn't have CLR turned on, so I went ahead and turned that on but still doesn't show up. Any ideas?

I have several users with an unusual problem with SSMS 2012. When they attempt to connect to a database using the "Connect to Server" dialog box, the connection just hangs. Sometimes after about 15 minutes the connection will be successful. Other attempts simply spin seemingly endlessly. Users experiencing this issue are both running SSMS 2012 on Win 7 Pro (64 bit). The following troubleshooting steps have been tried:
1. When the user runs SSMS "As Administrator" the connections work almost instantly. (Elevating privileges is not a solution in our environment)
2. Wireshark shows that SSMS does not try to hit the SQL server when the user experiencing this issue clicks connect.
3. I can create a new virgin user on the PC and that login experiences the same problem.
4. A complete rip and re-install of SSMS 2012 does not resolve the issue.

I'm using SQL Server Management Studio Express and I'm trying to figure out how to copy a table(s) from my local database to my web hosting database. I know how to do it in 2000, but it's completely different now. Is this feature not allowed on SSMSE? How do I insert data that I have collected in a local database onto a table on my online ie hosted database which is on a different server?
At the moment I am just uploading all the data to the hosted DB but this is wasting bandwith as only a small percentage of data is actually selected and used.
I thought that if i used a local DB and then update the table on my hosted DB this would be much more efficient, but I am not sure how to write the SQL code to do this!
Do I do some kind of

I am having trouble finishing the last bit of a report. The report shows orders that customers have placed that contain 0 promo items, All promo items (all items in order are promo items), and a mix of promo and non promo (at least 1 promo item and 1 non-promo item). Ive simplified this a bit for ease of understanding but lets assume we have 2 tables: A Promo table that contains the items on promotion and the dates that promotion is valid, and a Sales table, that contains the order number, order date, and sku ordered.
I've already written code that finds orders that have at least 1 promo item in them, and using that, I can determine what orders have 0 promo items in them. Where I am stuck is taking the orders that have at least 1 promo item in them, and separating them into orders that have only promo items, and those that have both promo and not promo items in them. Also, there are several promos throughout the year (called "Offers") so in my code below, you can see 2 different Offers ("JF" and "MA") with their corresponding dates they are valid. They will never overlap. My results also have to be split out by Offer so management can look at the results of each offer separately. Here is some code:
