Hi,
I am getting the following error while installing a SQL 2005 on a standalone machine with Win2k3
Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -- Error 29515. SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]SSL Provider: The client and server cannot communicate, because they do not possess a common algorithm.
any help to resolve this problem will be highly appreciated.

Nimesh
I want to create a database on my local machine and work with it. But I am not able to see the name of my local server under "Database Engine" in the list of "Registered Servers".
Options I tried:
(1) In Registered Servers window, On Database Engine, I right clicked and in that selected "Update Local Server Registration"
(2) In Registered Servers window, On Database Engine, I right clicked and in that selected "New" -> Server Registration.
In "New Server Registration" Window, in "Server Name" drop down I clicked "Browse for more" but still in "Browse for Servers" window, I am not able to see the name of my local server in "Local Servers" tag under Database Engine.
(3) If I do File -> Connect Object Explorer -> Connect to Server window in "Server name" drop down box, if I click "Browse for more", I am able to see local server name eg. "XYZ" under Analysis Services, Reporting Services, and Integration Services but not under "Database Engine"
Please help me create a new database engine in SQL Server 2005 or list my local server under "Database engine" ?
Thanks
Hello
I've just installed 'SQL server 2005' and it installed the components like .Net2.0 and visual studio 2005 . before installing them I had uninstalled sql server2000 . I ran SQL management studio and tried to connect and makin' servers it doesn't allow me to connect or making any new servers...... it gives me this error
Cannot connect to local.
Additional information:
An error has occured while establishing a connection to the server. ......
error:53)
need to solve it....
Hello,
I have installed SQL Server 2005 in my PC and during the installation I
have created a predefined instance (I have used Windows autentication).
I could use correctly SQL Server till some days ago, when I changed the
password of my PC login profile.
Now, when I open SQL Server, if I click on the "Connect" button,
the following error message appears (I translate it from italian version)
Unable to connect to "CARLO"
Further information:
An error has occurred while you were trying to establish a connection to
the server. When you connect to SQL Server 2005, this error can be generated
because SQL Server doesn't allow remote connections under the predefined
settings. (provider: Provider Named Pipes, error: 40 - Unable to open a
connection to SQL Server) (Micorsoft SQL Server, error:2)
I'm sure that the error raises because I have changed my PC access
password (the program worked correctly before), but in the "Connect to
Server" window the user name and the password text boxes are disabled, so
I can't insert the new password...
Can you suggest what have I to do?
Thank you very much
Hi everybody. I was trying to install MS SQL Server Engine this morning. At the command prompt I typed setup SAPWD=password SECURITYMODE=SQL (where password was my password). After running the MSI I got the following error:
Product: Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine -- Setup failed to configure the server. Refer to the server error logs and setup error logs for more information. The Event ID is 1013. Can anybody tell me how to install this program. Thanks in advance for any help.
Hi
I have installed SQL Server Express 2005 on my machine.
I want to install SQL Server Standard Edition 2005 on my machine to check new services it has.
Can these 2 Editions coexist with each other, or any troubles you think might encounter?
Thanks

OK.
I'm using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition and I installed it under "Local System" on Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate.
I understand that there are issues of course that occur with this, however I can't seem to understand why what I'm doing isn't working. I'm not using this on any server, just to test out ASP.NET 2.0 applications - nothing more.
I'm getting this error:

I've installed this via a mixed authentication (as suggested by www.wrox.com).
I tried enabling the TCP/IP and named pipe connections, just as previous people have done, but it hasn't worked. Nor has enabling the SQL Browser.
I'm really at a loss on what to do.
1). When you right click stored procedure in the Query Analyzer on 2000 you can select debug from the list of menues.
I can't find this functionality in the SQL Server Management studio.
2). By the way I also can't find where went the output of my print statement.
3). Does server cursor functionality is still working in 2k5?
Is this possible to connect do the Database Engine (on sql server 2005 on XP platorm - file *.mdf (not mobile *.sdf)) from win CE 5.0?
I tried to do this :
ConnectionStringSQLServerCE = "Data Source=WORK_STATION\SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=dbMachines;Integrated Security=False;Password=Panel;User ID=Panel";
SqlCeConnectionCE = new SqlConnection(ConnectionStringSQLServerCE);
SqlCeConnectionCE.Open();
but I catch error:
catch (PlatformNotSupportedException ex)
€žPlatformNotSupportedException€?
I noticed that I see server because when I use:
ConnectionStringSQLServerCE = "Data Source=WORK_STATION\SQLEXPRESS";
zwraca błąd typu
catch (SqlException ex)

I used
using System.Data.SqlClient;
from Compact Framework 2.0 under Visual Studio 2005 Device Application Windows CE 5.0
can anyone help me?
I can't seem to get all of the SQL9_Hotfix_KB913090_sqlrun_sql.msp.log to post (too big), but I can post the SQL9_Hotfix_KB913090.log file...hope that helps and which seems to me might contain the clue as to what's going. Any ideas would be appreciated. This is happening on a fresh install of Win Server 2003 and SQL Server standard 2005.
Thanks,
Steve

Hi all, Im new here so il start with a little introduction of myself, My name is Arjan im 19 years old from Holland, and i work for a company to compleet my ICT Education.
My situation:
My boss gave me a server with server 2003 standard and Sql server 2005 and visual studio 2005 installed already, he asked me if i could figure out how the 'new' reporting services work, Im pretty new to SQL and the reporting service but i figured out i had to install asp.net / frameworks and IIS.
So right now i wanna start the Reporting Services Configuration Manager and i get an error that says 'Invalid namespace' and when im trying to approach by using my browser i get 'page not found' so obviously their is Alot wrong. I asked my boss if i could not reinstall everything and do it in the correct order (IIS / ASP.net / Frameworks before installing SQL server 2k5 but that was not an option because we dont seem to have the cd's anymore.
The server is not connected to any network or the internet.
My Question:
Is their any way to fix this? and if yes could anyone tell me where to start
Thanks in Advance!
ps if their is information or logs that u need in order to help me just say so :-)
-Arjan
SP2 refuses to install for the Database Engine because €śthe previous upgrade did not complete€?, i.e. it detects a suspended installation. The same thing happened to me when I installed SP1. I then remember opening the maintenance dialog and completing the setup, after which SP1 installed just fine.
When I try to do the same thing this time, I€™m presented with the €?complete the suspended installation€? option, which when I run it reports the installation completed successfully. However, in reality the installation still remains in suspended mode for whatever reason. If I reboot and open the maintenance dialog, I€™m still presented with the €?complete the suspended installation€? option. I€™ve even tried to run it more than once, but it doesn€™t help. Needless to say, SP2 still refuses to install.
I don't know why the installation is in a suspended state. I know every part of SP1 installed successfully in the end, and the computer never crashed during the installation. I've been using it every day since then, without any problems. All other parts of SP2 did install successfully.
I created a feedback entry on Microsoft Connect, where you can find the log files created by Windows Installer. The URL is:
https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=259606
Any ideas what I can do to resolve this problem?
Hallo there,
I just upgraded from Windows XP Pro to Windows Vista Bussiness and tried to reinstall SQL Server 2005 Developers Edition. After the installation i downloaded (using microsoft windows update) and installed all the service packs for sql and vista available.
My problem is when i open sql server management studio and try to connect to my default instance using windows authentication and database engine, an 18456 error occurs.
I enabled all the protocols and all the ports
I disabled windows firewall and antivirus (eset nod32)
I installed all service packs available
I have also installed Visual Studio 2005 without installing sqlexpress
But nothing happens!
Please i am very desperate, any information will be gratefully accepted.
This is my installation Information

I need to install SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on a new Windows Server 2003 machine that has SQL Server 2005 Express Edition installed by a backup application (Backup Exec). Will I need to uninstall the express edition in order to install the standard edition? Can the two coexist as separate instances or will the standard edition installation simply upgrade the express installation?
Thanks

Hi,
Is it possible to install SQL Server 2005 Eval on a Virtual PC 2007
client running Server 2008 Beta? Nothing says it isn't possible, it
says I need to service pack it right away, but before it gets started
it comes up with the error 'sqlcu.dll failed to load'. Anyone know
what this is all about?
Any ideas?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

If SQL Server Setup fails, Setup will roll back the installation but may not remove all .manifest files. The workaround is to rename the files and then rerun Setup. For more information, see How to: Work Around COM+ Check Failure in SQL Server Setup.
We've devoted a resource to this today, but I have to believe it's something easy that we're overlooking. The scneario is that we have a production Web application that until last weekend had a SQL 2000 back end. This weekend we installed a new instance of SQL 2005 and everything works (we tested in a sandbox environment, but someone must not have load tested enough) and never saw these exceptions. So, after the upgrade we now receive 100's of thexe SQL excptions per day:A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.)A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available.)Does anyone know what we've overlooked that's causing this issue? Thanks for any help!

Hello:
I just installed Windows Server 2008. The installation also included Web Server.
When I tried to install SQL Server, I got the following warning:
IIS Feature Requirement (Warning)
Messag
IIS Feature Requirement
Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is either not installed or is disabled. IIS is required by some SQL Server features. Without IIS, some SQL Server features will not be available for installation. To install all SQL Server features, install IIS from Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel or enable the IIS service through the Control Panel if it is already installed, and then run SQL Server Setup again. For a list of features that depend on IIS, see Features Supported by Editions of SQL Server in Books Online.
Can somebody advise me on how I can resolve this warning? Would running SP2 take care of this?

Hi,
Recently I have installed Visual Studion Team System 2008 Development Edition in my sytem. Along with this, MS-SQL Server aand MSSQL Server Compact Edition is also installed. I need to install the SQL Server 2005 in my system.
In such a scenario, does the Compact Edition is required? Can I uninstall them and install Sql Server 2005 only? If I uninstall anything, would it cause any problems for the .Net programs to work?
Please respond asap.
Thanks for any help.

View 1 Replies View RelatedHi, I am running SQL Server 2005 x64 DE on Vista x64. I installed MS VS 2005 Pro. Edition. During the setup of VS, I did a custom install, un-checking the SQL Express addition box. After installation, I received errors that indicated the SQL Express did not install. Even though I do not have SQL Express installed on my machine, MS Update says that I need SQL Express SP2. My SQL DE is up to date with SP2 and MS Update indicates as "optional" that I need SQL SP2.
Is SQL Express a necessity for VS Pro? If not, why is MS Update indicating that I need SQL Express SP2? In addition, why is MS Update telling me I need SQL SP2 when it is already installed?
Note: I installed SQL SP2 manually, not through MS Update. This makes me believe that MS Update is not detecting it.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help,
Abel
I installed sql server 2005 sp2 including business intelligence development suite , however I got a message
some client components not compablitable .This morning I searched my programs and found that I have new
visual studio 2005 on my computer (before I just had vs 2008) as well as business intelligence
developer (which does not work) It seems I I would like to get rid of vs 2005 also
fix business intelligence studio . Previously I deleted vs 2005 express off my computer........(I have vista
and I would only like to keep tools meant for sql standard 2005 reporting services etc
here is a list of my sql sp2 install package
By the way I doubled clicked sql_tools.msi and did not run as administrator
Does that make a difference? I wonder if this is a problem with vs 2008 and sql 2005......

SQL Server 2005 SP2 (build 3054)Consider the following scenario:- A complex multi-statement table valued function is created. Let's callit dbo.tfFunc(@Param1, @Param2)- A SELECT statement is executed, that calls the above function twice, each time with a different set of parameters. In pseudocode:SELECT <column list>FROM dbo.tfFunc(1, 2) AS f1<some JOIN operatordbo.tfFunc(3, 4) AS f2ON f1.col = f2.colINNER JOIN dbo.Table1 AS t1ON ...etc.The exact statement is probably irrelevant, as long as the same table-valued function is called twice (I have observed the issue in two verydifferent statements calling the same function). The statement isexecuted in a SNAPSHOT isolation level transaction, although this mayalso be irrelevant.- The statement continues executing for a long time. If sp_who2 is run atthat time, the following row is returned for the statement connection(only relevant columns are shown):SPIDStatusBlkByCommandCPUTimeDiskIOLastBatch63 SUSPENDED63SELECT2928268308/31 18:17:37The statement appears to be blocked by itself. If sp_lock is run at thattime, the following rows are returned:spiddbidObjIdIndIdTypeResourceModeStatus63213166246410TABSch-SGRANT63213166246410TABSch-MWAITIt appears that SQL Server waits indefinitely trying to obtain a schema-modification lock on a resource which already has a schema-stability lockplaced on it by the same connection. The following is pure speculation, but it seems reasonable to assume thatthe server has materialized the result of the first call to the functionusing a temporary table in tempdb, and is trying to materialize theresult of the second call using the same temporary table (same ObjId insp_lock results).I do not know why this does not cause a deadlock error.Unfortunately, I do not have a simple repro script for this. The actualcode is rather complex. While I can devise a workaround, this does looklike a bug. I am posting it here before submitting a bug on Connect, incase anyone can shed some light. Hello Friends,
I need to install SQL server 2005 in my desktop. I have already installed Visual Studio 2005 and selected to install all add ons during initial installation of VS 2005.
Now, when i inserted my CD for installing SQL server 2005, there is nothing that has to be installed.
I checked that SQL 2005 Express edition is already installed in my system.
Kindly let me know, if by installing VS 2005 with all add ons will install SQL server 2005 as well?
Many thanks.
