Hi.
I was wondering if it's possible to pass object properties to variables? For example, if I have a ConnectionString property for a SQL Server connection, would it be possible to pass this value to a User-scoped variable?
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Just wondering if there is an alternative to reading SQL databases locally other than visualstudio.net or MS Enterprise manager. Are there any 3rd party software that I can use to manipulate a local SQL dbase (MDSE modules).

During web-site development, I am using VStudio 2005 with SQL-Express. I frequently publish changes to my web server that is running SQL- Server 2000 standard edition.
Is there a simple way to replicate changes in database tables design without copying the whole mdf-file and loosing the existing data in the target database?
thanks, Reinhard

Why don't you folks (SQL SERVER Management Studio Team or SQL SERVER Database Engine Team) provide an option by using which I would be in a position to know what all the other objects are depended on a selected object and vice versa. That means:
When I select a Table within the SQL SERVER Management Studio if there is an option for understanding "Which all the objects (tables or views) it is depended on (I mean Foreign key and etc... kind of relations) and also Which all the objects (Tables, Views, Stored Procedures and etc...) are using this table", It would be of great help for all developers.
I can be contacted over kotis@microsoft.com

I have an ODBC connection string that is working fine with the following properties:
Database="XXXXXXX",Network="YYYYYY"; strangely no server is specified in the string, but it is specified in the ODBC Connection file.
I am trying to do a new server registration in SSMS for this database.However, I don't understand where the network spec is placed.
Under Registered server name I've tried:
YYYYYYXXXXX
When I browse the server for the database instance list, I receive "network path was not found".
I even tried:"XXXXXXX",Network="YYYYYY" for the registered server name.Same error message.
What am I doing wrong ?

I am using SqlServer 2005 and I have created small sample table with culumns that have Extended properties.
FirstName have [First Name] extended propery called M_Caption.
Then I created a view from the table to use in an access database.
My problem is, I can't get the table column extended properties to show up in the view column extended properties.

Hello all, i hope someone that understands SQL can help me.
I have a report that runs from a access query, which is simple.
My problem is that i get an overflow error becuase one of the queries formulas are to divide some numbers and in this one instance there is a "0" involved.
My formula is:
Col2%: [Col 2 Hrs]/([TotHrs]-[Col 6 Hrs])
The problem is that [Col 2 Hrs]=0 this month for a specific employee.
In excel i know i can do
=IF([Col 2 Hrs]=0,"0",([Col 2 Hrs]/([TotHrs]-[Col 6 Hrs])))
and that works fine.
Can someone please show me how to do this in SQL so instead of returning an error it will display 0 or N/A.
Thanks inadvance
Hope i explained my issed well enough for everyone.

I have a CLR project in my VStudio solution.
Whenever I deploy the project to SQL, the deployment will be successful, but, because the stored proc wrappers that get made in SQL are remade, all permissions that I had applied to those stored procs are gone and have to be reentered through SQL. I have made a TransactSQL script to run to automate this. Basically, what I need is to give them a group permission that is associated with the tables that they work with.
I gotta figure I am missing something simple that would allow my permissions to stick.

Hello, I have a configuration where my SharePoint services are running on a web machine and the SQL server reporting services are running on a different machine.
I installed SQL SP2 and the SQL Server Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint by following all the instructions listed in €śConfiguring Reporting Services for SharePoint 3.0 Integration€? (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb326356.aspx).
My issue is that when I Deploy a report from a VS Report Server project by running Visual Studio on the machine where reporting servicers is running, everything works fine.
But if I try the same thing on any other machine on the network, I get a €śThe file you are attempting to save or retrieve has been blocked from this Web site by the server administrators.€? message.
I€™m sure I€™m missing something on the configuration but I can€™t tell what.

Hi,I've run into a curious problem with MS SQL Server 8.0. Using sp_help andSQL Query Analyzer's object browser to view the columns returned by a view,I find that sp_help is reporting stale information.In a recent schema change, for example, someone lengthened a varchar columnfrom 15 to 50 characters. If we use sp_help to find out about a view thatdepends upon this column, it still shows up as VARCHAR(15), whereas theobject browser correctly reports it as VARCHAR(50).Dropping and recreating the view fixes the problem, but we have quite a fewviews, and dropping and re-creating all of them any time a schema change ismade is something we want to avoid. I tried using DBCC CHECKDB in hopes thatit would 'refresh' SQL Server's information, but no luck.(if you're curious as to why I don't just use the object browser instead,read boring technical details below)Has anyone seen this before? Is there some other way (other thanre-creating every view) to tell SQL Server to "refresh" it's information?Thanks!-Scott----------------------Boring Technical Information:The reason this is an issue for us (i.e., I can't just use the objectbrowser instead) is that our object model classes are built using standardmetadata query methods in Java that seem to be returning the same staleinformation that sp_help is returning. These methods are a part of thestandard JDK, so we can't easily fiddle with them. Anyway, as a result, ourobject model (at least with respect to views) may not match our currentschema!

Hi,
I need to import an SQL string from MS Excel 2003 to SQL SERVER 2000.
The string I need to import is composed by 5 different several blocks and looks like:
Code Snippet
CommandLine01 = "USE mydb"
CommandLine02 = "SELECT Block ..."
CommandLine03 = "GO

GO"
CommandLine04 = "UPDATE Block..."
CommandLine05 = "SELECT Block..."

to use multi - batch processing to import the string to SQL SERVER, something like:
Code Snippet
Dim SqlCnt, cmd1, cmd2, cmd3
'set the properties and open a connection
cmd1="use my_db"
cmd2="create table mytb"
cmd3="insert into mytb"
SqlCnt.execute cmd1
SqlCnt.Execute cmd2
SqlCnt.Execute cmd3
Below is the code (just partial) I have, and I need help to complete it.
Thanks in advance,
Aldo.
Code Snippet
Function TestConnection()
Dim ConnectionString As New ADODB.Connection
Dim RecordSet As New ADODB.RecordSet
ConnectionString = "Driver={SQL Server};Server=myServer;Database=myDBName;Uid=UserName;Pwd=Password"
ConnectionString.Open
CmdLine01 = " USE " & myDB
CmdLine02 = " SELECT ACCOUNTS.FULLNAME FROM ACCOUNTS" ...
CmdLine03 = "GO
ALTER TABLE Block...
GO"
CmdLine04 = "UPDATE Block..."
CmdLine05 = "SELECT Block..."
RecordSet.Open CmdLine01, ConnectionString
RecordSet.Open CmdLine02, ConnectionString
ConnectionString.Execute CmdLine01
ConnectionString.Execute CmdLine02

Hello!
We are having problems with a single SQL Server where the Server properties will not save, and always revert to the default.
It occurs only on those tabs with "configured" and "running" options at the bottom. Other tabs will keep the settings we custom.
The big problem is with the memory and processor tabs which even when we've made only a single change and stopped and started the service, reverts back to a default.
Any clues - we are logged in as "sa" and have not removed the SA priviledges.
Thanks for any help,
Simon

Is there no longer a graphic interface for the parameters that are output with sp_configure?
There are many options that are settable that are not in the Sql Server Propreties, but
these items were in the 6.5 graphic interface through EM ex. number of open objects.
Is there a script to save these settings so the installation can be recreated?

I'm not directly accessing the system catalogs (as far as I can tell), I'm actually using the Linked Server Properties user dialog to change the Server Options. Any help is appreciated.

This problem concerns files FTP'd (using True64) from an AIX app, to an WIN server
These files can't be loaded into the SQL Server DB using BCP (String data, right truncation) nor into an ACCESS DB ("Overflow"), (but can be loaded into Excel).
If the file is opened and saved in a Windows/DOS environment it loads fine, or contents copied to an empty win/dos file.
If the same file is sent from to the Win server using DOS FTP then it loads fine.
It seems to be that these DBMS's don't like something about the operating system level file properties (hdr or EOF?).
Can any one help?

Hi
I'm running SQL Server 2005 Express SP1 on a Danish PC, and I need to have the server language set to Danish.
However, when I want to change the language in server properties (the current language is English (US) using Management Studio Express, I can't - all of the properties on the General page are greyed out.
I know that the SQL Server Express SP1 download is available in several languages (Danish not being one of them) - does that mean that I can't get my SQL Server Express SP1 installation to "speak" Danish at all?
Please help - it's driving me up the wall.
