Converting A Date In The Form Of A String To A Datetime Format

Sep 29, 2006

Hi,

I'm writing some SQL and want to convert the following expression into a date format in the SELECT list:

'01/'&Month(OrderDate)&'/'&Year(OrderDate)

Basically, I want to look at each order date, convert that date to the first of that month and GROUP BY this expression.

There is a CONVERT function, but I'm new to all this and can't seem to get it to work.

Any help would be gratefully received!

Cheers!

Converting Date From String To Datetime In Data Transfer Task

Jul 13, 2006

The source is a flat file with a column where dates are stored as: 07/12/2006 11:35am. In some cases the column is blank.

I need to import this into a table with a datetime column. In the data flow task, I get the error that conversion b/w String and DB_Timestamp is not allowed. First question is why does SSIS think its a DB_Timestamp column? Shouldnt it be DB_Date or DB_Time. Anyway, when I add a Data Conversion Task in the Data Flow, and cast to the source column to either DB_TimeStamp, DB_Date or DB_Time I get an error.

Please help. What am I doing wrong.

Converting / Cast Varchar To Numeric With Scale?

I have a varchar(len=9) field that I want to cast as numeric(9,2). Some of the field values are null but some have valid values (ie 1.00 or .05).

I am selecting data from one table and then updating a different table.

I have a select statement within an insert statement and then an update statement. I've tried a cast statement but not successfully. I get the following error.

[Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "Exec sp_ESTLoadPOData" failed with the following error: "Error converting data type varchar to numeric.". Possible failure reasons:

Type Cast Error Converting From Integer To String

Oct 30, 2007

I am attempting to convert an integer value to a string using the Derived Column transformation with the following expression on the field:
(DT_STR,10,1252)prod_id

prod_id is an integer. I was able to do this before however, in the past couple of days, this has failed with the following error:
"An error occurred while attempting to perform a type cast."

To my knowledge, I have not changed anything about this particular data flow within the past couple of days. I have verified that the value is coming in as an integer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Transact SQL :: CAST 0 As DateTime

How do you cast 0 as DateTime?  Is this possible to do.I am using UNION to combine two tables.  I get an error when doing so...

Msg 206, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Operand type clash: int is incompatible with date
SELECT TOP (100) PERCENT

I understand what is causing the error.  In the top select statement both Closed_Status AND Expected_Close_Date are datetime values.  But in the bottom statement they are int.

I understand what is causing the error.  In the top select statement both Closed_Status AND Expected_Close_Date are datetime values.  In the bottom statement they are int.  So I tried CASTing them as datetime, that didn’t work and I get this error.<o:p></o:p> Conversion failed when converting the varchar value 'Open' to data type int.Is there a way to CAST 0 as a DateTime

Problem With CAST And CONVERT In SQL Server2000 Converting Decimal Places From 4 To 2

May 11, 2005

All of my currency columns are only storing 2 decimal places when I insert into the database but when I pull out the data with a SELECT statement, I always get 4 decimal places instead of the 2 that were inserted.
For example:
Database Price            SELECT statement Price
100.56                           100.5600
I have tried to use the CAST and/or CONVERT commands but I cannot get the output to come out as 100.56.  Has anyone had a similar problem?
Thanks

CAST DateTime Value To A Fixed-point Number

Jul 31, 2014

I'm reviewing the CAST function using Microsoft SQL server. I generally understand the functionality, but my confusion lies in the results of a particular script which casts a DateTime value to a fixed-point number.

It is as follows:

DECLARE @From DATETIME
DECLARE @To NUMERIC(10,5)

SET @From = '2009-10-11T11:00:00'
SET @To = cast(@From AS NUMERIC(10,5))

PRINT @To

This results in: 40095.45833

I am completely lost as to how 40095.45833 = 2009-10-11T11:00:00. I just do not understand the how that fixed point number equates to that source DateTime data.

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Using CAST Or CONVERT To Change Data From String To Datetime?

Apr 16, 2014

i am trying to take a field that has part of a date in it, so I have to parse it out as follows:

SUBSTRING(a1.Field1, 3, 2) + SUBSTRING(a1.Field1,5,2) + '20' + LEFT(a1.Field1,2)

This is because a date of 04/16/2014 will show as 160416 in the first part of the field I need to parse it out of, thus becoming 04162014.

From there I then need to convert this "date" into a legitimate SQL datetime type, so that I can then run a DATEDIFF to compare it to when the record was actually entered, which is a separate field in the table, and already in datetime format.

When I use the below statement, I am getting the message that, "Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string."

CAST((SUBSTRING(a1.Field1, 3, 2) + SUBSTRING(a1.Field1,5,2) + '20' + LEFT(a1.Field1,2)) as datetime)

I also tried CONVERT(datetime, (SUBSTRING(a1.Field1, 3, 2) + SUBSTRING(a1.Field1,5,2) + '20' + LEFT(a1.Field1,2)), and got the same message.

how I can parse that field, then convert it to a datetime format for running a DATEDIFF statement?

Cast A Varchar As A Date

Mar 5, 2007

I have developed a CF application and now need to add some charts to it for admin purposes. I have a form page that uses a calendar widget to let a manager select a date range and submits to display data for that timeframe. I need to convert the formfields to a date for my WHERE clause in my query. My experience to this point has just been simple queries of one table. below is a sample I found and modified numerous time to try and make it work with no success.

Can anyone give me a hand with this?

CHG_TYP_CD
FROM WRK_RQS

Cast From String To Date

Sep 21, 2006

I created an SSIS package that pulls in legacy data from a DB2 AS400. There is an In Date field that is stored on the AS400 as OdbcType.Date or DATE. However, when I use SSIS to pull in the data, SQL wants it to be a string so I gave up and let SQL have it's way.

Now in my SELECT statement, I have this:

SELECT TLMST.TLNUMBER, TLMST.DOGNAM, BRDMST.BRDesc, TLMST.INDT
FROM TLMST INNER JOIN
BRDMST ON TLMST.BRDCOD = BRDMST.BreedNumber
WHERE (TLMST.INDT >= @startdate) AND (TLMST.INDT <= @enddate)
ORDER BY TLMST.INDT, TLMST.TLNUMBER

Because I see the dates stored in TLMST are yyyy-mm-dd format, this is not working. It is not pulling any records. I tried to use the CAST statement but I keep getting errors about casting from a string to a date and data overflow errors.

Should I go back and re-do the SSIS or is there a way to pull the records for this? Thanks for the information

Converting DateTime

Hello Everyone and thanks for your help in advance. I have an application that inserts a variety of values into a SQL Server database. Among the columns are three DateTime values. I have code working properly on my test server, but when I port the identical code to my production database, I get the following error:

Arithmetic overflow error converting expression to data type datetime. The statement has been terminated

When I remove any type of insert involving date, the application works. I have tried the date in various formats, for instance "09/12/2001" and "20010912", but still get the same error. Obviously, there must be differences in the SQL Servers, but I have never run into this problem before and the current server is running many applications involving dates. I haven't got a clue as to how to solve this problem. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
