We have 5 servers with MS Sql Server 2000 with sp2.
We need latency near to real time.
One server is the Central, at this server is happening changes in centralized tables like articles for example. At the rest of servers is hapenning changes in operational tables like orders for example.
I have implemented the use of one publication of merge replication for all objects in one way using -ExchangeType 2 parameter of merge agent, upload only from suscribers. And other publication with some tables that are the centralized tables with ExhangeType 1, Download only to suscribers.
The -ExchangeType only delay the changes, for this we need delete msmerge_contents and msmerge_genhistory because the other changes we want discard.
The administration of changes at the scheme are made it at the first publication the general publication.
The distributor database is at the Central server.
Is this correct ?
Because i have problems with msmerge_genhistory index. I think that the problem is the use of the same server for the two publications.
This way is for better replication administration.
I am using VB as front end application and MS sql server as back end. I want to make the database centralized. does anybody know how to connect the database across the network?
i know how centralized database works ,In a centralized system, I'll store it on one server. Then, I'll replicate that exact information to Server #2 for safekeeping.All the data's will be placed on root server,but i don't know diff between cloud and centralized database how they are working together.....
I Enabled Data Collection on one of the server and planned to make it as Centralised Management Data Warehouse I configured data collection on it and can view reports. Next, I went to other server and configured "Set up data collection" to use my first instance as the centralised Database. But the issue is I can only see reports of first server. Am I missing something here.

I am not sure how to tackle the following. Environment has SQL Server 2005 and above which hosts one database (table1 & table2) per server. I have created a new SQL 2012 server (database called collection (table1 & table2) which will be the central point. I need to do the following:

I am new to 2005 mirroring but have read a lot of documentation on it. I want to use mirroring to centralize a bunch of DBs to one location and then back them up from that central point. However, from what I've read since the mirror is kept in a "recovering state" it cannot be accessed directly. Does that mean I wont be able to backup the mirrors? If so, are there any work arounds or different strategies for this?
I am having a problem with the disk usage reports after creating a centralised MDW on SQL Server 2008, this is the report displayed when you drill down onto a specific database.
When I drill down on a database on the local server to the MDW database the disk usage report is shown correctly.
However, when I drill down onto another servers database I receive the following error: A data source instance has not been supplied for the data source 'DS_TraceEvents'.
We replicate a SQL2000 database (DataBaseA) to a SQL2000 database (DataBaseB) by using the Restore function and hasn't change its logical name but only the physical data path and file name. It is running fine for a year. We use the same way to migrate the DataBaseB to a new SQL2005 server with the Restore function and the daily operation is running perfect. However, when we do the Backup of DatabaseB in the SQL2005, it just prompt the error message
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The backup of full-text catalog 'DataBaseA' is not permitted because it is not online. Check errorlog file for the reason that full-text catalog became offline and bring it online. Or BACKUP can be performed by using the FILEGROUP or FILE clauses to restrict the selection to include only online data. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)
Please note we left the DataBaseA in the old SQL2000 server.

I am having trouble with the following:An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file (file location).../Database.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. It has only begun since i decided i wanted to use IIS, I realise VWD comes with its own localhost, but since it is only temporary, i wanted a permanent shortcut on my desktop to link to my intranet page. We have a SQL database that uses Active Directory with Windows Authentication. Can users that are members of the Active Directory group that has read/write access to the SQL database create ODBC connections to access the database directly and update the data? They dont have individual logins on the server. They are only members of the Active Directory group that has a login?
I had to to relocate the database log file and I issued an Alter database command but by mistake I put a space in the file name as below. The space is at the beginning file name. Now I am unable get the database loaded to SQL Server. The database has 2 replications configured, so deleting and re-attaching the database means the replication needs to be re-configured. Is there an alternative way to issue a command to update the database FILENAME ? Not sure if this can be edited in master database (sys files).

I downloaded and ran AdventureWorks.msi into my SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE) one year ago.But I did not know how to attach it to my SSMSE then. Last week, I deleted it from the "Add or Remove" of Control Panel and I downloaded the new AdventureWork.msi and installed it my SSMSE. Today, I tried to use the Database Explorer of VB 2005 Express for the first Stored Procedure programming. I have installed 2 SQL Server 2005 Express sample databases from 2 books, ASPnet 2.0 and ADOnet 2.0. The ASPNETDB.MDF was shown in App_Data and Database Explorer, but not in the SQL Server Management Studio Express. The AdoStepBy Step database created by a ConfigDB.exe was displayed in the Management Studio, but not in the App_Data, or Database Explorer.
Is this the way SQL Server 2005 runs the 2005 databases for SQL Server 2005 Express only? Or also in SQL Server 2005?
I am setting up SQL audit on sql servers in my environment based on requirement. I want to create database specifications ASAP database created. I tried DDL trigger but Audit doesn't support triggers. So I created audit specifications on model database. the only problem with this is every specification created on new database with same name.database specification name includes newly created database name or other methods to create database specifications on newly created databases.
I am new to SSIS. I have been struggling with this for the past one week. I have a weird task. I need to import several tables from one database to a different server with a new database name. We need to do this at the end of every year. The main problem here is that the number of tables varies every year. You may not have all the tables as last year or may have more tables. So I need to create a dynamic task that takes care of this every year without changing the package.
I have performed the following tasks **
1. Create a new dynamic database. ( I have used Execute SQL Task to do this) 2. Copy all the table structures ( I have used Execute SQL Task to do this)
3. Import Data. This is the main problem. I was trying to create a dynamic connection string with variables as suggested in several forums but I finally came to know that this cannot be done if the table structures are different as the metadata cannot be refreshed at runtime.
4. The final step to create a process to validate the data (the count from each table for both source and destination. I think this can be done with Sql task.
What is the best method to do this? My DBA does not like “Transfer SQL Objects Task” or “transfer Database Task”. I would like to create this as a dynamic process.
I have a medical records system, SoapWare v4.90, that uses MSDE (SQL2000) databases. Due to the 2gb limitation, I am trying to migrate over to SQL 2005 (Standard or Express) which I have heard works fine. The SoapWare has a datamanager that allows me to log in to the MSDE instance, detach the SoapWare databases from msde (as well as do backups, etc) which I can confirm are detached.
Then I log back into a SQL2005 database instance using the datamanager and try to attach the database. This is what their pictured instructions demonstrate. However, I get the following error:
Database 'sw_charts' cannot be upgraded because it is read-only or has read-only files. Make the database or files writeable, and rerun recovery.
Of course, some of the entries will be read only, since doctors have to sign off the charts and are not allowed to subsequently change them. But I should still be able to switch over to sql 2005?!?!?!?
Or... is there a way to attach the databases to SQLExpress manually?

Using SQL Server Express 2005, I have two databases. AppDB - The main application database.GeoDB - A somewhat static ZIP code / states / other geographic stuff databaseI need to have some foreign key columns in tables in AppDB reference columns in the GeoDB database tables. Eventually other application database besides AppDB will be doing the same thing in our infrastructure. After googling and reading for days, here is what I think I know:You cannot create foreign keys that reference tables in another database in SQL Server.You cannot create foreign keys that reference columns in a view, and you definitely cannot make an index on a view that has base tables in another database.You can create a trigger that references tables in another database, but this can be flaky? (nested/recursive trigger problem).SQLServer 2005 supports multiple schemas within the same database. Maybe I should logically separate my databases this way? Seems like it would be a tough solution to manage since I already have some databases live in production that will eventually use this 'static' GeoDB. I'm taking a database(read-only) backup from one server and restoring it on other server. As soon as restore is done it is bringing database into single-user read-only mode.
why it is bringing the database into single user mode ?
I did tried the encryption on server "A" for database "AdventureWorks2012". Then I tried to restore to server "B". There was the certificate issue, and I thought "of course : it's encrypted ! Let's deactivate it". So here I go "ALTER DATABASE AdventureWorks2012 SET ENCYRPTION OFF".I look at sys.databases : not encrypted.I backup using no encryption, I verify using msdb.dbo.backupset : not encrypted.
I move my backup to my other server where encryption was never configured (so no certificate, nothing...), and I have the error : Msg 33111, Level 16, State 3, Line 1
