Chabging Network Support

Aug 30, 1999

When trying to Add a Network support from within SQL6.5 Setup I can only see Named Pipes and Multi-prototcol as my only options. I would like to have TCP-IP. How can I do that. TCP-IP is setup on the NT server. (Most likely after the SQL installation). How can I add the TCP-IP protocol support in SQL without re-installing SQL.

Any inside is appreciated.
Thank you

System Area Network (SAN) Support

Jun 4, 2002

We are trying to determine what SQL Server 2000 Edition is required for our environment. We really don't need any of the features that Enterprise Edition offers over Standard Edition, except that our disk storage is on a System Area Network (SAN). BOL says that SAN is not supported under Standard Edition, but I am under the impression, that if we are not using distributed queries or replication, then Enterprise Edition is not neccessary.

Any help?

The Partner Transaction Manager Has Disabled Its Support For Remote/network Transactions.

Aug 23, 2006

I'm trying to run an SSIS package. The package runs on an SQL 2005 server on Win2k3 server. The package tries to connect to another win2k3 server with sql 2000 to retrieve some data. However, I recieve the errormessage shown in the topic.

I found info about modifying the MSDTC security settings under "component services" and did so. I made sure everything was allowed. However, the result was the same. Does anyone have any other idéa about what could cause this problem?

PS. The package works fine if I set up both databases on the same physical machine...

Support For SQL Express2005 My Host Provider Does Not Provide Support?

Dec 5, 2005

Reader Community
I've just started hosting my newly created Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition web site.  Unfortunately the Login group membership functions will not function correctly.  Having contacted the web service hosting provider, They replied: "We do not support SQL express2005.  The only way to use the extra functions of ASP.NET2 such as group membership is if it is using an SQL 2000 database to connect to. "
Is it possible to design web sites with Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition that store membership details on an SQL 2000 database?
I've just paid £88 approx. $140 for a years subscription, have I chosen the wrong web service hosting provider?
Should I have designed the web site with a better web site design software tool that also makes designing membership login functionality easy, just as Microsoft Visual Web developer 2005 express edition?
Look forward to all comments?
Regards

Philip

[DBNETLIB][ConnectionRead (recv()).]General Network Error. Check Your Network Documen

Sep 30, 2004

Hello all,

We have a Windows 2003 Web Edition server serving a site through IIS. It connects to a Windows 2003 Standard Edition server running SQL 2000 SP3a.

This site receives the following error as seen in the topic:
[DBNETLIB][ConnectionRead (recv()).]General network error. Check your network documentation.

We've configured the server network utility to only allow TCP/IP connections. The connection string for the site is as follows:

<%
' FileName="Connection_ado_conn_string.htm"
' Type="ADO"
' HTTP="false"
' Catalog=""
' Schema=""
MM_connSpankMSSQL_STRING = "Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=SERVER_IP,1433;Network Library=DBMSSOCN;Initial Catalog=ourmaindb_1;User ID=ourmaindb_1;Password=hotcookies;"
%>

Any ideas or tips on solving this issue? We've noticed it is due to larger queries as smaller ones do work with no problems.

The servers are behind a BSD box running iptables, has 1433,1434 along with standard web ports wide open. Anything outbound is allowed.

Some further testing via ODBC on the IIS server improved things. No more connection pooling for the SQL Server driver allows for 1/3 of the query to run. Still 2/3s of it doesn't show up, and that general network error message appears.

Should have 330 rows if it works right.

[DBNETLIB][ConnetionWrite (WrapperWrite()).]General Network Error. Check Your Network

May 19, 2004

Hi
While running a DTS, many times the error message: "[DBNETLIB][ConnetionWrite (WrapperWrite()).]General network error. Check your network documentation." appears.
Does somebody knows why?

I am running the DTS from a computer (not the server where the DTS is stored) and it is connected without any problem when this happens.

Thanks!!

General Network Error. Check Your Network Documentation

Jan 9, 2006

I use sqlclient to connect directly from my mobile 5 pocketpc to a sql server 2005 database on my desktop.

I use a sqldatareader to traverse the results of a query that delivers 2 fields: (1) the filespec, and (2) the image field.

I use a filestream with a binary writer to write the contents of the image data to the pocketpc's storage card.

I have a test table with 10 images, not one more than 4 MB.  I cannot complete a test run prior to receiving the  general network error.

The pocketPC is connected via activesync to the desktop, and I connect to the database with:

Integrated Security=false;
user id=sa
password=admin.

Any help with this strange error would be greatly appreciated.

RAM Support

Jul 24, 2007

My documentation tells me that SQL Server Express only supports 1 gigabyte of RAM.
My computer can take 2 gigs, but I presently only have half a gig.

If I install 2 gigs on my machine, will that cause SQL Server Express to malfunction?

Or does it just mean that the extra gig will not be utilized?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Character Set Support

Sep 20, 2006

I'm looking at an MS SQL server database and it stores city namesacross the world. All aarabic , chinese etc names are converted to the latin alphabet.I feel it is probably critical we support accents as a means todistinguish between cities that would be converted to the same Latinalphabet representation otherwise and as a matter of culturalpoliteness. Now ...... how do we do this?Use varchar? which character code page do we use?Use nvarchar? I heard a rumour that SQL server pads unused characterswith blanks and hence will use space unnecessarily. The data will be presented on sheets and emailed around the world - itwill also appear on a website.Any advice greatly appreciated - thanksOliver

Getting MS Remote Support For SQL

Feb 4, 2008

Hi, I need to get help for a SQL issue from Microsoft. On the website there seem to be two options--one is email support for $99 and another is "online" support for $259. What's the difference? Does the $259 option mean that Microsoft will remote log into my SQL Server and fix the issue while I watch? This is what I need done. Does this $259 pay for the whole issue, until it is resolved?

I am a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCSA)--do I get any discounts or is there any other avenues I should take to get remote support for SQL Server 2005? I wasn't sure where to ask this question, if it is more appropriate elsewhere then let me know.

Thanks!
