View 1 RepliesHello,How do I change the datatype of a column in a CSV file. Preferably in the select statement (apparently Cast, Convert, & Replace functions don't work when selecting from a CSV). I have a page where users upload their CSV files to and then I use SQLBulkCopy to insert all the records into my sql table. The problem is with columns of money data. EX: "$2,000" >> 2000The CSV file interprets the "$2,000" as a string of text. How do I convert it to a decimal so I can insert it into my sql database?

It has decided that the column is a float, which is wrong.

I am getting the error:
Cannot open database "aspnetdb" requested by the login. The login failed.
When I browse to my ASP.NET 3.5 LINQ web application on the IIS 6.0 server on Server 2003.
I imagine this is because while I granted SQL Server 2005 login and permissions to my database that the application stores its data in, I did NOT grant any rights to the service account the IIS Application Pool uses for its identity to the aspnetdb database on SQL Server which is where all my roles information is stored at.
My question is what are the MINIMUM permissions needed for this database so it can perform its roles related functions?
I'm using Windows Authentications with the SQL Role provider for authorization.
Thank you.
EDIT: I think I only need to open the aspnetdb database and add my login to the aspnet_Roles_FullAccess role. Is that correct?
Hi,I have started an aspnetdb and it is now in use. It appears as though I "can" change the table structure, by this I mean I simply want to add a field, but can I get some feedback of the issues that this casue?Thanks,CES
View 1 Replies View RelatedHello all,First of all, I must state that I'm new to SQL Server, but have been along-time software guy for quite some time. Please excuse the potentialsimplicity of the solution to my problem.I create a blank database (TestDB) under my server machine (SQL Server 2000Standard)... I then create a new table (Run_Number) with only one record init.Field(1): Next_Run_Number (bigint), identity w/ seed 1 and increment 1, nonulls, PKI can successfully save this new table to disk and everything seems fine...problem comes up when I go back into the table and change the datatype from(bigint) to (int). I try and save changes and I get the following errorprompt:'Run_Number' table- Unable to create index 'PK_Run_Number'.ODBC error: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Invalid cursor stateI've checked and there's plenty of disk space available and the dbase is setto grow by 10% as necessary. Any ideas what could be going wrong? I'm ableto successfully make this change on my other machine running SQL Server 2000Personal. Thoughts?TIA!-J.C..

How to Change Order of Column In Database Tables
View 10 Replies View Relatedhi all,
I have created a table in sql server 2005 as follows:
table name --> sampletest
1.id -->int ,identity,primary key
2. student_name --> varchar(50),not null
2. active --> bit, default value=1
Using vb.net 2005 , i entered names into sampletest. And when i check the table in the sql server 2005 the names are inserted and the active value is 1.
In another page i added a drop down list which bind all the student_name from sampletest and a delete button.
Now when i select a name and click the delete button that respective item's active column should be changed to 0. if any one who knows how to do this please help me..
thanks

I had entered 100 records to the table, now I want to change the datatype for the column "Quantity" from INT to MONEY.
How can we do this without loosing the data that has been entered the the column previously.

He is no longer with our company and we want to change owner of those user defined data types so we will be able to delete his UUID. Is their a way to change the owner of the user defined data types from his ID to dbo. I don't see a way to change them with sp_changeobjectowner

Hello,
I would like to change the datatype on a particular column from varchar to bigint across 100's of tables within a database.
I have the command ready which is:
ALTER TABLE tablename ALTER COLUMN columnname BIGINT
The problem happening is that it seems there are constraints across all the columns in every tables.
The error message is:
Server: Msg 5074, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The object 'DF__tablename__columnname__0ABD916C' is dependent on column 'columnname'.
Server: Msg 4922, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
ALTER TABLE ALTER COLUMN columnname failed because one or more objects access this column.
I understand that if I delete this constraint, then it will let me modify the datatype of the column, but since there are tons of them and they are randomly named, how do I achive changing the datatype across multiple tables in bulk.
What would be the best process to change the datatype of ntext fields.
I assume just changing the datatype - is not the way to go?

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn my site, when a user registers, I need to create rows in additional tables besides aspnet_Users. So, I need to be able to pass the generated userId guid to subsequent SqlCommands. I'm having a terrible time with this. What's the correct way to set up a SqlParameter so that it will accept a guid? I keep getting this error: "Conversion failed when converting from a character string to uniqueidentifier."
I've tried creating the parameter both with and without a SqlDbType.
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue(paramName, guid);
and
SqlParameter p = new SqlParameter(paramName);p.SqlDbType = SqlDbType.Guid;cmd.Parameters.Add(p);
and I get the same error either way.
Driving me nuts! Any help appreciated.

I am trying to extract from some strings like the following strings the number and order them by that number:
Box 1
Box 2
Box 3
Box 20
Box 21
...(and so on)
The problem I am having is that I already extracted the number using
Substring([field],[starting position],[lenght])
but the output seems to be in a string format, so the order is not in an ascending order.
Thanks for any suggestions.
I have a data source that I access via odbc in a DataReader Source component in SSIS. I can access the data fine. However, I am having problems with certain fields that are numeric (specifically home prices ranging from 100,000.00 to 99,999,999.00). In the advanced editor for my data reader source under the input and output properties tab, in data reader output under the external columns and output columns, these fields for some reason default to numeric data types with a precision of 4 and a scale of zero, not large enough to hold the data that is coming in. This causes errors that make the data come in as null (after i specify to ignore the errors).
I can change the precision and scale to 18 and 4 in the external columns, but when I try to change the datatype, precision or scale in the output columns I get the following message:
Property Value is not valid.
The details are:
Error at Import DataReader Source: The data type of output columns on the component "DataReader Source" cannot be changed.
Error at DataReader Source: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0xC020837D)

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi there readers of this post,

Hello everybody, I am working with SqlExpress and MSSQL Server Management Studio Express and do not manage to open the aspnetDB .mdf database in which I am storing all data about my users.I woulds like to open it and to be able to request it in order to check some strange things.Actually, I'm experiencing an isssue with that database since the request just below gives me two results for only one user: SELECT Member.Password, Member.PasswordAnswer
FROM aspnet_MemberShip Member, aspnet_Users Users
WHERE Member.UserId=Users.UserId AND Users.UserName='Admin' Using this request returns me a user whom password is clear and an identical user whom password is hashed whereas I set PasswordFormat="Clear" in my Web.ConfigCould you explain me how I may proceed please? Thanx for your help
Hello.
I have been developing a small site that has two backend SQL Server databases. One for my application data and one for the ASPNETDB database that is created by the ASP .NET Configuration utility.
Is it possible to configure the ASP .NET Configuration tool to use my custom database instead of creating a second database called ASPNETDB?
Thanks in advance.

Hi
I want to set up my web app to use a web parts personalization, I notice that a default database named aspnetdb is made, I also made one in my sql server using the aspnet_regsql.exe to make it. Now what I need to find out is how to make my app point to the database in the sql server instead of making that default one.
Thanks
When I created my website in Visual Studio 2008, I ended up with two databases. The one I created (Speedway.mdf), then VS2008 added a new one (aspnetdb) when I added membership data (roles, users..etc). Since the host I'm using charges for each database, I just want to move all my membership information into Speedway.mdf. I exported the tables from aspnetdb.mdf to Speedway.mdf, but now I don't know how to tell the site to look at Speedway.mdf to find the membership info?

I'm using Visual Web Developer 2005 Express, SQL Server 2005 Express and SQL Server Management Studio Express.
When I create an application with Login controls, VWD automaticlly creates a ASPENTDB.MDF security database. I also create my own database for my application e.g. abc.mdf. In other words, I have two databases. However, my hosting company supports only one database. What do I (we) do?
I have seen articles on: aspnet_regsql . Does this create a new database with all the security features of ASPNETDB.MDF built into my new database i.e. abc.mdf?
(A) If yes, how do you run it with SQL Server Managment Studio Express? It sounds silly, but I need instructions here please ... Also, do you run this against abc.mdf or do you use it create abc.mdf?
(B) If not, how do you achieve a single database scenario?
I'm sure this is a very common deployment question, which is very confusing for most of us hobbyists that want to deploy their web applications
I have tried to find all the threads related to this topic. At this point I would like to find out what the best practices are for doing this. I plan to use Membership, Roles, and the login controls to handle my authentication and permissions issues. I want to use the same database for my application data as for Application Services, using a standard SQL Server. So far, the easiest way to set this up that I can think of is to:1. Use aspnet_regsql.exe to create the Application Services Database schema2. Edit the "LocalSqlServer" entry in <connectionStrings> to point to the above database3. Add the tables, views, stored procedures, etc., that I need for my application into the database created in step 1Is there any more configuration I need to do to get Membership and Roles working? When I did the Walkthrough, step 2 seemed to be the only requirement for getting Membership and Roles to work.Will I run into any trouble using LocalSqlServer for my application data updates?I would be interested in any other approaches to setting up a combined database, including opinions why and why not to do it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHello everyone,
I have a problem with making such a query. I have two databases: DB1 and ASPNETDB - default asp database. I get data from DB1.Books and want to join (INNER JOIN) UserID with UserName from ASPNETDB.Users.
The ponint is that I don't know how to access ASPNETDB in the query. I use SQLDataSource control in which I specified the ConnectionString pointing to DB1 database on my local SQL Server 2005 Express.
On the other hand, if I use a ConnectionString pointing to ASPNETDB as a database dynamically attached from file (~/App_Data/ASPNETDB.MDF), I gain access to the Users table but I get an error message when I try to access DB1.dbo.Books...
I'm getting sick of it.. thanks for any help!
