Changing Connection String In SSIS Package ???

Hi!
I create a SSIS Package for ETL on my own machine. During development database was also on my machine. For access to this database an OLE DB connection was defined within a package in BI Development Studio. Everything worked well both in debug mode and testing package itself.
Finally I need to load data to a database on a different machine using this package.
I used several scenaries:
1) simply copied the package-file to estination machine, open it for execution, in section "Connection Managers" I edited connection string manually - changed server name and Initial Catalog. And try to execute.
2) on the destination machine I manually created an OLE DB connection (using Microsoft Data Link) to a different database (test succeded), Changed the extention of the connection file 'udl' for ' txt ' and copied its connection string to the field connection string in section "Connection Managers" (pointed in variant 1) ).
3) use Package Configurations, copied the deployment to destination machine, installed the package the way like written here - http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms365338.aspx. Changed exported properties - Server name, Initial Catalog and also the whole Connection String. Also try to execute.
In all cases I recieved the same error execution message :
"Errors in the metadata manager. Either the database with ID of " OLD_DATABASE_NAME " does not exist in the server with ID of " NEW_SERVER_NAME " or the user does not have permissions to access the object."
As for access (username/pass) settings they are the same for both of them, I have the same administrative rights on both machines. And more with the same rights the ole db connection made was made manually in variant 2 - succeded!!! So I don't think the problem is here.
As for Error message - I think somewhere the OLD name of database (Initial Catalog) is saved, though I tried to change it. Though the NEW value for the server name is substituted.
Please, help me. I don't know what else can I try. And it is not a single case for my practice. So I think - something wrong in my actions.

Dear All,
I now have two SSIS package, "TESTING" and "LOADING". The "TESTING" package have an execute package task that call the "LOADING" package. When I want to execute the TESTING package, how can I setup the connection string so that I can edit the password of the database connected by the "LOADING" package?

we connect theDB server and Database Table through manaully .Instead of Manual i need dynamic Global varible for Connection String .How to achieve this connection string.
because suppose we create SSIS Package in Developement Server Latter We change the Server from Developement to Another Testing Server . at that time we dont requierd for changing manulay.any one pls reply me.
Same as in Dotnet we give configiration XML file .we gave the Connection strng. how to in SSIS we do?

I have create packages which loads the data from flat file to sql server table, now I want to make my destination table connection dynamic what is format of connection string. I also need to pass user name and password for sql server dynamically in this case, what is the format for the connection string.
Also  in package i used ADO.net  as source for  *.mdb files how i can set the commection to .mdb files dynamically which is used as source in my package.

Now that I have figured out how to connect to a foxpro database...
Could anyone tell me how to change the connection string on the fly?
I would like to make it possible, from the command line (using dtexec) to specify a portion of the connection string.... incorportate this portion into the connection string and then instruct the connection manager to use this connection...
For example I have a number of foxpro databases to import, they will be place in a directory structure like this:
TopLevel
TopLevelNewYork ransactions.dbf
TopLevelLondon ransactions.dbf
TopLevelSydney ransactions.dbf
I'd like the user to be able to specify which city's files to load each time the package is run..
dtexec /f MyPackage /set Package.Variables[User::THECITY].Properties[Value];"London"
And when the package starts the THECITY variable would take the value "London"
But I'm not sure how to then affect the connection string property of the connection manager... there seems to be no way to specify that it take its connection string property from an expression...
So I'm lookin for some way which would cause the Connection String property of the coneection manager to become:
Driver={Microsoft Visual FoxPro Driver};sourcedb=d:TopLevelLondon;sourcetype=DBF;exclusive=No;backgroundfetch=Yes;collate=Machine;
Jsut to recap, the provider for this connection manager
is a ".Net ProvidersOdbc Data Provider" which I've been forced to use becasue the OLEDb provider for Foxpro has been rendered useless by service pack 1

How can i change the connection string at runtime?
Scenario is, I want my customer to enter server name, database name, and some parameters at the installation time then i will use these entries to build the connection string and persist it into the app.config.
also not only at installation time but also at runtime while the program is running. i wanna make these entries as options which can be modified at any time
so, How can i do that ?

Scenario:
130 dtsx packages using 4 matching connections.
3 of those connections are stored in an SSIS Configuration table in an Operational database.
The last connection is in a shared data source and points to the Operational database so the packages can grab the others.
Problem:
It's time for deployment and all of those connections must change to production servers.
The 3 are no issue, just change the ConfiguredValue in the SSIS Configuration table on the production box to point to the other production servers.
However, the fourth one... I had made an assumption that when you changed a shared data source it filtered down throughout all the packages. We all know what assumptions do to you.... So. I need a way to change all 130 connections (and be able to change ALL packages quickly and simply for other projects in the future)
Solution:
It has been suggested that we use another package to run though all of the packages and change the connection with a script task. I can live with this (and more importantly so can our DBS's who have to deploy).
I have one snippet of code to ADD a connection using a variable holding the connection string, but we dont' want to add one, just change an existing one.
Has anyone else done this? Or had a similar problem and way to fix?
We are likely to have many projects in which the connections MUST change at deployment, and the idea of going into every package to make the change is sad at best... We would be more likely to move back to a competitor's product that has a connection repository, than continue with SSIS.

I’m working with a team of programmers who are in the process of upgrading an older ASP application to ASP.NET 2.0 (VB). The existing application connects to the SQL Server Database using different Logins, depending on the User logged into the ASP Application.
We are hoping to do the same using ASP.NET 2.0, although we haven’t been able to find a simple solution. The most feasible solution we have found includes programmatically trapping all the Selecting etc events and changing the SqlConnection at run time. This allow for ease during Designing of the Web Pages, but implementation requires adding code to each web page (>100 pages).
We are hoping there may be a simple solution which can be implemented once for the application where the event can be trapped at the application level, and the SqlConnection set at this point. Or possibly another type of solution such as creating a new class etc that can be used?
Does anyone have a simple solution where the username / password for the Database Connection can be set at run time?

I am using execute pacakge task to execute another package . I am giving the Connection string for the package to execute. It works fine in my development machine but when i try to run in another server after i deployed it. It looks for the datasource path of the DTSX file in the same location.
how do i set the path according to each server where the dtsx file is stored. or any other method of storing it like connection string.
if i store it in theparent package variable where should i point to...

I originally developed SSIS packages with the destination DB to be SQL Server 2005 for unit testing on my desktop. We are planning on deploying to Oracle. After changing the Provider and other attributes in the configuration file the package loads, however there are lots of issues. The primary one is that the mappings are gone. I'm not sure if that is the result of how the table names are stored "Oracle"."File" versus [SQLSERVER].[File] . Even after attempting to change the way the table names appear I still get the message "the external metadata column is out of sync with the data source columns". Then it lists all of the columns that need to be added.
Is there any way to accomplish this that you are aware of.

I'm new to SSIS so I have not found the answer yet. I have a SSIS package that needs to be run everyday,that loads a basic text file. The only problem is that the text file may not be in the same location everyday so my users will need to locate the path prior to running the package. Is there a way to browse to the text file then have my users execute the package sort of like the old DTS in SQL 2000.

I saved a simple export/import package from the import/export wizard to a .dtsx file/package. Now I want to change the package to delete/truncate all of the tables before adding data. (since this has 80 tables it would have been a pain to edit each of them individually)
How can I easily go about doing this with the SSIS package. I can't find out where this would actually be executed.
Also, how can I actually view the code behind the SSIS package.

I have a small problem. I've gone through the SSIS wizard and created a dtsx file which imports data from an access file into a SQL Server 2005 database. It has been set to delete existing rows and enable identity insert.
I then edited the .dtsx package in SQL Server Management Studio and added an environment variable configuration to allow me to change the destination database. In the script which runs the dtsx, here is what I have (it's an x64 system, so hi have to use DTExec):
"C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL Server90DTSBinnDTExec.exe" /file e: estimport.dtsx /set Package.Connections[DestinationConnectionOLEDB].Properties[InitialCatalog];newdatabasename
and here is the error I get:
Description: The configuration environment variable was not found. The envir
onment variable was: "InitialCatalog". This occurs when a package specifies an e
nvironment variable for a configuration setting but it cannot be found. Check th
e configurations collection in the package and verify that the specified environ
ment variable is available and valid.
I got the package.connections.etc etc path from originally creating the environment variable as an xml config file, then I could open the config file and see what the path was...
Any help would be appreciated :)

I am in between of creating a dynamic SSSIS package which will run for multiple zones having different source connection.My source is in Oracle.I am having 3 DFT with the 3 different source tables.I want to create a package with above DFT dynamically so that my single package can run for the entire zone with dynamically source connection change.I have created a Master table which stores the zone source connection string and zone name. I have 2 different connection.so if in future any new zones come so only newly zone details need to be add in master table without opening the package.

What is the best way to run SSIS scripts on different servers without changing connection information. Our test server is ppntt140 and our production server is ppntd110. If I create a script on server ppntt140 what can I do so I can move it to server ppntd110 without changing any connection information? Database names are the same, it is just the server that changes. What is the best way to handle this? Thanks in advance.

Both the OLE DB Connection and ADO.Net Connection in SSIS Package does not remember password.
Im connecting to a SQL Server 2000 box using its sa password as test.
The SSIS package runs fine when you first set up the connection in bids
The bottom line is that SSIS keeps forgetting the password I feed into
the two Connections that I'm using. I double-click a connection,
type the password in, check "Save my password" and hit "OK" but the
password disappears from there whenever I run the package or
double-click the connection again.
is there any known workaround for this issue as I would like to schedule my SSIS package using a SSIS Step in a SQL Server 2005 Agent job.

I'm new to SSIS. Is there some way to change the connection strings used by a package installed in MSDB? We created a package using the Import wizard in SQL2005, but now the source Access mdb file has moved. I tried using Mgt. Studio Object Explorer to connect to SSIS to look for the properties of the package, but right-click on the package name does not offer a Properties option. I understand the package editor is now in Visual Studio, but I was unsuccessful opening the installed package in VS.

I want to store the value of the Connection String in an Common table exisiting for the whole project and retrieve it for the whole package to Run. I want to know if there is a way of doing this.
I do not want to have a config file which is created trhough the package configuration.
In case of Parent package variable the Value of the variable needs to exist which again needs to execute the SQL Task which requires a connection string.
In case of Environment variabIe.I have very less knowledge about the environment variable . Even if we store it? how can we access it and change it in client place.
In case of SQL server . Can we store in an existing table. what is the configuration filter? what is the vlaue for it.
I do not want to execute any command line.............................

Hi All,
I am trying to import data from flat file to sql server 2005 DB table using SSIS. There are 4 different text files in the input folder. I am using for loop to iterate reading and importing 4 times. In order to do this I have set "Connection String" property of a connection manager to a package level variable using expression. There is a script which supplies the source file name and assigns to this variable.
The package works fine. The data gets imported successfully into the destination table. However, when I close the package, reopen it and then run, the Data Flow task fails with the error "Can not open the source file". If I enter a valid file name in the Flat File Source task and run the package it works again. As soon as I close the file/package, reopen and then run, the data flow task fails with the same error.
How do I make this working. I am planning to schedule a job which will execute the package programatically. In that case no user intevention is possible.
I would appreciate your help on this. I can provide further details if required.

I apologize in advance for posting yet another connection failure issue. I went through quite a few posts and could not find the actual answer so here is the issue. I have a main SSIS package to call five other packages. This seems to work fine in my BIDS workstation; however, when I copied it, including the bat file that was created by dtexecui utility, to the production environment (which runs on 64 bit - probably has nothing to do with the 64 bit platform), the main package executes fine but the child packages failed with this error:
Description: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.
An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult:
0x80004005 Description: "Login timeout expired".

I have been trying to resolve a connection string issue all day, and havent figured out whats the problem. I keep getting the Acquire Connection error everytime I run my package. Can you someone review the format of my connection string, and confirm that it is indeed the correct format:
I have two conn strings specified in my config file, one is to connect to a remote database and one is for local. I have validated the connectivity from my server to these databases via Management Studio, and it seems to connect fine. But when I run my package it keeps failing.
SQL Server Authentication(Remote Database Server):
Data Source=server_name;Username=useraccount;Password=xxxxx;Initial Catalog=dbname;Provider=SQLNCLI.1;
Windows Authentication(Local Database on the server):
Data Source=xxxxxx;Initial Catalog=xxxxx;Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;

I am having a very frustrating issue--
Essentially I have a package with an OLE DB Connection manager and a Data Flow Task.
The OLE DB Connection points to my SQL Server (using SQL authentication with a user who has sysadmin and dbo access to the DB)
All the Data Flow Task has is an SQL OLE DB Transform that runs a
SELECT * FROM <Table>
Obviously, this package does nothing...but I have stripped it down for test purposes.
Long story....longer:
When I debug this package from my local computer, the package completes successfully.
However, when I build the package and import it as a job on the server, it fails when it runs.
I get the following error in the Event Log:
Login failed for user 'xxxxxx'. [CLIENT: <local machine>]
I enabled logging on my package; it says:
OnError,....The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "xxxxxx" failed with error code 0xC0202009
Why can I debug the package successfully on my computer, yet when the server runs the package, locally, it fails?

I have created a SSIS package to import data from DBF files using a OLE DB Jet 4 driver, which works very well in Visual Studio, however doesn't work via a SQL Job. It states the the path isn't valid.
The file path in the connection manage is \servernamedbf (dbf being a shared folder I have permissions and security to)
The server is on another domain, which is trusted. I added the server's IP address to the host file and through windows explorer can navigate to the dbf folder with out a password prompt.
Why can't I get this to work???

It seems there a lot of problems running SSIS packages under the sql agent. I have read the knowledgebase articles regarding permission issues etc but I still can't get my job to run. I can run any package as a job apart from a package that connects to an external database via an odbc connection. Has anyone had any luck with this and can let me in on the secret.

Hi,
We are using a €œFlat File Connection Manager€? in our SSIS package.
The package fails occasionally while loading in the validation phase with the error
€œ-1073659899,0x,The connection type "FLATFILE" specified for connection manager "<some name>" is not recognized as a valid connection manager type. This error is returned when an attempt is made to create a connection manager for an unknown connection type. Check the spelling in the connection type name.
This error is not returned always.
Also I feel €œFLATFILE€? is a valid type of connection manager. This value €œFLATFILE€? is inserted by the editor and not manually typed. This is a weird behavior of SSIS.
Sometimes I get this error with respect to some other connection manager used in the package as well. €œOLEDB€? is the type of that other connection manager.
Has anybody faced similar issue earlier?
Please let me know some thoughts, suggestions, and possible work-arounds to avoid this error as this is very critical for us.
